SUMMER HIGHLIGHTS
Summer Season from 22 June – 4 September 2025

Summer Season from 22 June – 4 September 2025
Welcome to summer in the Swiss Alps — a place where time slows down, and the mountains offer quiet companionship.
The Palace, standing for 112 years at the heart of Gstaad, holds a lifetime of stories. If its walls could speak, they would tell of generals and movie stars, of humble billionaires and graceful guests. They have witnessed grand celebrations and quiet moments, laughter echoing through its halls, and even the
occasional heartache — life, in all its depth and color. Here, the fresh alpine air clears the mind, while the views offer a quiet kind of wonder. Whether you’re walking along mountain paths, sharing a meal of honest alpine flavors, or simply letting the stillness in, the Palace remains what it has always been: a place to pause, reflect, and feel something real.
We look forward to welcoming you to Gstaad — and to a summer that writes its own story.
Sincerely,
Andrea Scherz
Cuv ée Rosé, chosen by the best.
Summer in Saanenland is slowly settling in, as early sunlight illuminates the majestic alpine peaks. Life here moves at a natural pace, shaped by traditions and a timeless charm that has endured for generations. Every morning, cowbells softly echo through the valleys as local herders lead their cows up lush slopes, continuing the centuries-old practice known as “Älplerleben.” Alpine huts nestled in flower-filled meadows become hubs of activity, where skilled cheesemakers craft delicious cheeses using traditional methods handed down through generations. Visitors have the unique opportunity to witness and even participate in this authentic alpine tradition. The region also offers cultural highlights, most notably the renowned Gstaad Menuhin Festival, which fills quaint mountain villages with classical music. Performances resonate under the stars, turning summer evenings into unforgettable experiences. The festival attracts visitors from around the world, providing moments that linger long after the final note has faded.
In addition to music, Gstaad hosts prestigious sporting events such as the Polo Gold Cup and the Swiss Open Tennis Tournament. These events are beloved annual traditions, attracting international visitors and creating an atmosphere of excitement set against the spectacular backdrop of the Swiss Alps. Outdoor enthusiasts will find endless adventures along Saanenland’s scenic trails. Whether seeking leisurely walks through
vibrant wildflower meadows or more vigorous hikes to secluded mountain lakes and panoramic viewpoints, there is a path suited to every explorer. Each trail offers its own story and unique moments, encouraging visitors to create personal memories.
Summer evenings in Gstaad unfold around tables filled with locally sourced alpine delicacies. Guests enjoy relaxed dining under starry skies, surrounded by the gentle sounds of nature—the distant ringing of cowbells and the whisper of pine trees.
Families visiting the region find a wealth of activities designed to entertain and inspire. Farm visits, easy hikes, and creative outdoor workshops ensure visitors of all ages create lasting memories in this picturesque alpine setting.
Wellness and sustainability are deeply integrated into life here. Visitors can rejuvenate with yoga sessions in fresh mountain air or partake in eco-friendly activities designed to foster a deeper appreciation for nature. At the heart of it all is the iconic Gstaad Palace, offering guests an elegant gateway to the region’s wonders. Cosy accommodations, friendly service, and authentic experiences await those who choose to make the Palace their summer retreat.
Summer in Saanenland is an invitation to experience tradition, culture, and nature —an enchanting story waiting for each visitor to write their own unforgettable chapter.
We are delighted to announce that on 10 March 2025 Gstaad Palace reached a remarkable milestone: the distinguished Travelife Gold Certification now proudly adorns our hotel. This achievement underscores our longstanding commitment to sustainability, deeply woven into our traditions, family values, and local heritage.
Moreover, we simultaneously reached the highest tier of Switzerland’s respected Swisstainable programme ‘Level III – Leading’ —and secured a place within the Sustainability Leaders collection by The Leading Hotels of the World.
Following months of rigorous external auditing by Travelife, an internationally recognized sustainability assessor endorsed by the Global Sustainable Tourism Council, our team’s extraordinary dedication to sustainable practices was acknowledged.
Our General Manager and Owner, Andrea Scherz, shares: “Receiving the Travelife Gold Certification is not just about recognition—it represents our commitment to continually raising standards within luxury hospitality. Sustainability presents unique challenges, and we are fully dedicated to meeting them head-on.”
For years, we have championed sustainability in our region—from pioneering district heating powered by local wood energy in 2008 to integrating sustainable practices throughout every aspect of hotel operations. This latest recognition is not merely a certification; it signifies our genuine dedication to enhancing the environment, supporting our community, and nurturing local biodiversity.
Andera Scherz, who also serves as Chair of The Leading Hotels of the World since 2022, emphasized the importance of setting benchmarks: “Elevating our sustainability standards strengthens our leadership role and inspires our peers worldwide. This trio of certifications is not the end— it’s another milestone in our ongoing journey toward genuine sustainability.”
With these recent accomplishments, our dedication to Sustainability nevertheless continues by combining responsibility with tradition and innovation—inviting others to join our journey.
A heartfelt thank you to our Sustainability Team and our Palace Family for achieving these globally recognized sustainability standards.

“High above, where the eagles glide, At 1,700 meters—the mountainside, Lies a hut from times of old, Built in 1783, its stories told.
Not a place of luxury grand, But a farmer’s hut, simple, unplanned. No hot water, no golden shine, Just nature’s peace—raw and divine.
The sunrise wakes you, soft and bright, Golden beams of morning light.
At night, cowbells hum a tune, While silver moonlight leaks through gloom.
The wood it creaks, the wind may call, And yes, the night gets slightly chilly for all. No cars can bring you, your feet must tread, So, bring good shoes, prepare ahead.
Yet here, where silence hums so deep, You’ll find the dreams worth losing sleep. A place for two, plus children too, To breathe, unwind, and take in the view.
Come stay, slow down, escape the race, Feel the mountains’ warm embrace. ”
SUMMER 2025
FOR AN UNFORGETTABLE SUMMER IN THE MOUNTAINS: GSTAAD.CH
In Gstaad, visitors quickly notice that cows are as numerous as locals. Known as much for luxury as for its traditional alpine lifestyle, Gstaad is a destination where nature, culture, and authenticity harmoniously blend. Local guide Claudia von Siebenthal Fust passionately introduces guests to the region’s hidden gems, combining her global experience with deeprooted local knowledge.
Claudia suggests exploring Saanen village, famed for its historic chalets and craftsmanship dating back centuries. Here, traditions remain alive in charming local stores such as the GyBi-Lädeli, where visitors can find unique products like the famous Saanen mustard, each jar crafted from cherished family recipes.
For tranquility, Claudia points to Lake Arnensee, a serene location offering peaceful bays for swimming, ideal fishing spots, and scenic hiking trails. Visitors can rent boats or paddleboards to explore the lake, then savor regional delicacies at the cozy lakeside restaurant Huus am Arnensee or relax at one of the inviting lakeside picnic areas.
or food lovers, Claudia recommends the fondue experience. Visitors can rent a fondue backpack from local dairies and hike to one of the seven XXL fondue pots, for example the fondue pot in Abländschen. Abländschen, accessible from Saanen via eco-friendly electric bus until end of October.
Active guests will enjoy a wonderful, and also family friendly, hiking trail with scenic panoramic views.
Starting with a picturesque gondola ride from Zweisimmen to Rinderberg, hikers then experience spectacular alpine views along this easy route.
Families particularly appreciate the Alpenzauberweg trail, filled with interactive stops that educate children about life in the mountains.
Lena had always craved adventure. Not the kind that left you with sore feet and an empty wallet, but the kind that made your heart race and your soul soar. She found it in an unassuming envelope, slipped under her door one crisp morning.
The envelope bore no name only two words in shimmering blue: Magic Pass. Curious, she unfolded the parchment inside. A single line greeted her: “Your gateway to unlimited adventures begins now.” And just like that, Lena was whisked away by the sheer thrill of possibility.
With her Magic Pass in hand, Lena discovered a whole new world: nearly 100 ski resorts including 48 summer mountain destinations across Switzerland, France and Italy. And among them, one region quickly became her favorite the Saanenland.
Nestled in the Bernese Alps, the Saanenland was everything she had imagined and more. From the elegance of Gstaad to the peaceful charm of Saanen, Schönried, and Lauenen, she wandered through lush meadows, dipped her toes in alpine lakes, and explored sunlit trails that seemed to stretch endlessly into the horizon.
In winter, she skied the pristine slopes surrounding the region; in summer, she sipped coffee on panoramic terraces overlooking valleys bathed in golden light. There were no limits just one pass, endless escapes. Whether she craved the rush of carving through fresh powder, the calm of mountain paths, or the welcoming warmth of alpine villages, her journey unfolded effortlessly. She was not just a traveler anymore. She was a storyteller, collecting moments, weaving memories, and unlocking doors to places she never knew existed.
Are you ready to unlock yours? Winter, Summer, or Year-Round - your adventure, your way!

Culinary Director Franz W. Faeh wins them all!
On 10 March 2025, Franz W. Faeh, Culinary Director at Gstaad Palace, proudly received the prestigious “Mérite Culinaire Suisse” award from the Minister of Economic Affairs Guy Parmelin at Bellevue Palace in Bern. This esteemed recognition celebrates Franz’s exceptional contributions to Swiss cuisine and highlights his influential role since taking charge of the Palace’s kitchen in 2016.
Throughout his impressive career, Franz has earned numerous accolades, including being named “Hotel Chef of the Year” in 2021, becoming Conseiller Culinaire of the esteemed Chaîne des Rôtisseurs in 2022, and receiving his 16th Gault Millau point.
Each year, the “Mérite Culinaire Suisse” honours only four chefs and two confectioners nationwide, carefully selected by a distinguished jury featuring culinary legends such as Irma Dütsch and Edgard Bovier, who share close professional connections with Franz. Reflecting on this milestone, Franz shared, “Receiving the ‘Mérite Culinaire Suisse’ award is truly the highlight of my career. I’m deeply honoured, and this achievement is made possible thanks to the exceptional talent and dedication of my kitchen team, especially Chef Luca Gatti, who continuously supports and inspires me.”
Franz’s culinary journey is as diverse as it is inspiring. His global experiences include roles at prestigious Regent Hotel Group properties in Hong Kong, Jakarta, and Bangkok, as well as a unique tenure serving as private chef to the Thai royal family.
Despite his international success, Franz remains deeply connected to his Swiss heritage.
“At Gstaad Palace, we blend tradition and authenticity with innovative culinary techniques,” Franz explains.
“Our mission is to consistently create memorable dining experiences that both surprise and delight our guests.” His collaborative and creative leadership style fosters a dynamic atmosphere in the Palace kitchen, enabling the culinary team to continually surpass expectations.
"Chef of the Year" from Karl Wild Hotelrating 2025–2026
Culinary Director, Franz W. Faeh, has been awarded the prestigious title of “Koch des Jahres” (Chef of the Year) by the esteemed Karl Wild Hotelrating 2025–2026. This accolade not only highlights Faeh’s culinary excellence but also his unwavering dedication to the Gstaad Palace, its team, and its guests.
Franz W. Faeh, a native of the Saanenland, began his culinary journey at the Gstaad Palace in 1978, where he completed his apprenticeship. After gaining extensive experience abroad, he returned nearly a decade ago at the invitation of Andrea Scherz to assume the role of Culinary Director, continuing a legacy that is both personal and professional.
Faeh is known for his open and accessible nature toward both his team and guests. With over 140 dishes on offer, flexibility is at the heart of his philosophy: “They eat what they want,” he says simply. Guests and staff alike know that if you need something, you go to Franz in the kitchen.
Under his guidance, the Gstaad Palace kitchen operates with remarkable freshness and precision, evidenced by the smallest area in the kitchen being the freezer – a testament to his commitment to cooking fresh, around the clock.
His style blends modern and traditional influences, creating a welcoming atmosphere that resonates throughout the hotel.
Andrea Scherz, who has been friends with Faeh since childhood, appreciates more than just his culinary talent: “Not only the kitchen, but the whole house matters to him. He is a valuable sparring partner for me,” Scherz shares.

Known as the rally for ambitious bon vivants, the annual Gstaad Palace-Challenge puts a number of hand-selected historical sports cars through their paces.
This year’s edition marks the 10th anniversary of the legendary event. Co-founder and classic car aficionado Andrea Scherz takes us on the road to the rally’s steep ride to success.
“In 2014, I realized that we needed something to fill the last weekend of August, as it always had very low occupancy”, explains Andrea Scherz, Owner and General Manager of the Gstaad Palace, himself a big fan of exciting rallies. Inspired by the Flying Scotsman, Britain’s premier vintage car event, he figured there must be a demand for a challenging rally in Gstaad as well. “Together with my friend and fellow vintage car enthusiast Franco Lupi, we decided to recreate a similar rally here in Gstaad.” The goal was to have an exciting event that fills the hotel during the end-of-August slump – with the not entirely undesired side effect of living their shared passion for fast and beautiful cars.
While the Flying Scotsman only allows prewar cars, the Gstaad Palace-Challenge allows for more modern cars – albeit still vintage – as well: “The oldest cars date back to 1950, the youngest to 1990”, Mr. Scherz clarifies. His own enthusiasm for classic cars began when his father, Ernest Scherz Senior, passed his old Triumph Stag on to him –a stylish convertible that Sean Connery, a.k.a. James Bond, commandeered in the 1971 film Diamonds Are Forever
“For my father, the Triumph was his daily vehicle”, Mr. Scherz says. “To me, it was the spark that ignited my love for collectable sports cars and, a bit later, for the challenge of vintage rallies.”
From the first edition in 2015, the Gstaad PalaceChallenge was a success. So much so that the annual event does more than fill empty hotel beds: “Fortunately for us, there is no August slump anymore – we even have to refuse people, which, for them, is rather unfortunate”, says Mr. Scherz. The Gstaad Palace has quickly become a cherished event with participants from all around the globe and about 75 per cent returnees. “Luckily, we have an entire year to plan!”
The preparations for the 10th edition of the Gstaad Palace-Challenge this summer have been especially exciting: “This year, we’ll start in Beaune, France, and then find our way through the beautiful French country roads to Gstaad, with a lunch halt at Chopard in Fleurier.”
From a financial standpoint, the first Gstaad Palace-Challenge was not very successful: “At first, we only had eight participating cars – definitely not the smartest move”, Mr. Scherz says with a twinkle.
The next year, this number went up to twelve, then 15, and over the last couple of years, the team had to cap the number of participating cars between 30 to 35. Even though the rally has become financially viable, Mr. Scherz and his team want to keep it small: “We really want to cultivate that unique boutique flair, where people come together, chat, enjoy the atmosphere and friendship.”
A big part of the rally experience is the hospitality factor: “That’s why we call it the rally for ambitious bon vivants”, Mr. Scherz explains. The route through the breathtaking Alpine scenery is as beautiful as it is challenging – motorsports is a sport, after all.
“Actually, the Gstaad Palace-Challenge is quite tough”, he says. “You need to have certain rally skills to make it into the ranking.” As they say, no pain, no gain –and no sweet satisfaction. Equally important, though, is getting pampered and enjoying culinary delights.
“I’ve been to so many rallies where the food was quite poor”, bemoans Mr. Scherz. To counter that, he and the team scout for new places to enjoy a delicious lunch or have an exquisite coffee break every year. “Our goal is to spoil participants from breakfast all the way through until dinner, rounded off with a cigar and a digestif.”
Creating a delightful experience for the soul, body and mind – this is what the Gstaad Palace is all about, after all.
Life is too short for boring roads.
That is why Kim and Scott Bannister, a fatherand-son dream team, founded Regularity. Their event management venture focuses on classic car tours and rallies. Together, they create unforgettable adventures centred around the pursuit of the perfect driving experience. Like the Gstaad Palace Challenge.
about adventure, the love of driving and experiencing jaw-dropping scenery with a small group of like-minded enthusiasts. At Regularity, we centre our events around the customer experience.
How do you ensure each rally remains distinctive and memorable?
Kim and Scott, why did you create Regularity?
Kim: Over the years, I have had the privilege of serving as a Route Designer and Clerk of the Course for many international rallies. While these experiences were incredible, I noticed that the small details that really matter to participants are constantly being overlooked. For me, things like coffee stops, lunches, and cultural experiences are essentials, not optional extras.
Scott: Regularity embraces the idea that participating in a classic motorsport challenge is
Kim: We aim to take our participants to destinations that are often overlooked, exposing them to unique and exciting places. In more popular areas, we strive to discover routes or locations that our participants have never experienced before.
Scott: I want our participants to immerse themselves in diverse cultures and forge new friendships. We evaluate each event from a participant’s perspective. Would we enjoy driving this road? Would we want to stay at this hotel or dine at this restaurant? If the answer is ‘no,’ we will not include it in our plans.
How did your collaboration with the Gstaad Palace start?
Kim: I first met Andrea Scherz during the Flying Scotsman rally, where we discovered our mutual love for motor racing and classic cars. In 2013, I brought the Peking to Paris event to the Palace for an overnight stop. My first Gstaad Palace Challenge was in 2018, after Andrea approached me to help take on the mantle of the well-established event.
Scott: I first came to the Gstaad Palace in 2019, and I have worked with my dad on every reconnaissance for the Gstaad Palace Challenge since then.
What makes the Gstaad Palace Challenge unique?
Kim: The unique atmosphere and camaraderie among the crews, along with the opportunity to work as part of the Palace’s event team, make it a truly enjoyable experience.
Scott: Spending summer days driving along the breathtaking mountain roads makes the Gstaad Palace Challenge particularly rewarding. Each year, we discover something new – whether it is a hidden road, a stunning view, or an area of the region we have never visited before.
Has the partnership with the Gstaad Palace inspired Regularity?
Kim: The partnership with Gstaad Palace serves as both an inspiration and a standard for excellence. Each year, the objective is to create a route that is unique from previous editions, introducing new landscapes, hidden roads and unexpected highlights while ensuring a seamless blend of adventure and luxury.
Scott: The Gstaad Palace Challenge holds a special place in our hearts and is a significant event on our calendars. A significant influence of the Palace is its dedication to world-class hospitality. Each stop is meticulously curated to uphold the high standards of service, atmosphere and exclusivity that define the Gstaad Palace experience.
What future projects are you particularly looking forward to?
Kim: Later this year, we will be launching a series of shorter, competitive Regularity-style events that are open to car enthusiasts of all abilities. Then, we have our Arctic Sun Challenge event in June 2026, where we will explore the islands and fjords of Norway’s Atlantic coast. In August 2026, we will embark on a magical 36day tour of India, Bhutan, Nepal, and Tibet in our Mystic Kingdoms event. 2027 will begin with a two-week tour of Ireland, starting in Belfast and ending in Dublin, before we head to the deserts of Mongolia for our Trans-Mongolian Endurance Challenge.
Scott: For me, our most exciting project is the launch of Regularity’s sister brand, Strada Classica, which will focus on delivering noncompetitive touring challenges. And we hope to continue supporting the Gstaad Palace Challenge, of course. We would love to evolve our partnership by creating another annual event, potentially focusing on electric vehicles or modern supercars.

Cell Gym Program with Oxygen Intelligence training control. Smart AI technology dynamically adjusts O₂ concentration for optimized training intensity. The Cellgym method activates the mitochondria, the powerhouse of the cell, by simulating mountain air with the help of a hypoxicator –Essentially, the IHHT therapy uses controlled withdrawal (hypoxia) and oversupply (hyperoxia) of oxygen to stimulate biochemical processes in the body for self-healing and regeneration. The natural production of the body ‘s own coenzyme Q10, the key molecule for energy production in all cells, increases, and protection against oxidative stress improves.

Ever since he arrived at the Gstaad Palace on May 1, 2020, Kostas Georgantopoulos has made sure things are running smoothly. We have talked to the dedicated Site and Maintenance Manager about his work – and his passion for safety.
What does a typical day look like for you?
My day is never boring! A big part of my day is dedicated to routine inspections of infrastructure systems like ventilation or refrigeration. Then, there are the many unexpected issues that arise during the day, from guest requests to malfunctions that need immediate attention. In addition, I plan and prepare for upcoming offseason projects like renovations or maintenance and construction.
Tell us more about your team.
The team consists of seven year-round technicians: An electrician, a painter, an upholsterer, two gardeners, and two all-rounders – although we will all take on all-rounder responsibilities. During off-season renovations, we employ up to 20 support workers from different departments within the hotel. For larger projects, we also rely on experienced local technicians.
How do you ensure employee safety?
It never hurts to be over-prepared. In our line of work, safety is always top of mind. We review rules and discuss preventive measures. This way, if something happens, everyone
knows exactly what to do. I make sure that my team has access to all necessary safety training, that equipment and tools are regularly serviced and safe to use, and that the workspace remains organized to prevent unnecessary accidents.
What do you do during the off-season?
Actually, the off-season is our high season! As soon as the hotel closes, renovation projects begin in all areas of the hotel. There is a lot of pressure, as everything must be to the highest standard and ready before the next season begins.
How do you prepare for the summer reopening?
For the summer season we focus on preparing the gardens, maintaining the tennis court and the air conditioning systems. Last but not least, we get the Palace’s unique Olympicsized pool ready.
What new features have you incorporated or renovated in the Hotel over the years?
The list is quite extensive! The most important ones include the new energy-saving electrical panels, which allow for systematic and detailed 24-hour monitoring. We installed new air-to-water heat pumps and added special soundproofing to selected rooms. Plus, to prepare for the summer season, we will completely refurbish 23 staff rooms, renovate the restaurant and breakfast area, and replace the stone pavement at the main entrance.

This season, we are carrying out a series of improvement projects throughout the hotel, both in guest areas and behind the scenes, to enhance comfort and functionality. We are proud to announce that these renovations have cost over 6 million Francs.
One of the most visible changes will take place at the main hotel entrance, where the existing stone pavement will be completely replaced after 35 years, providing a smoother and more practical arrival experience. In the accommodation areas, several guest rooms on the North side will undergo light
renovations to update furnishings and details. In the wellness area, the ladies’ and gentlemen’s sauna facilities will be completely renovated to create an even more inviting and relaxing atmosphere.
We are also undertaking a full renovation of 23 staff rooms, with the aim to improve comfort and well-being for those who call them home. Lastly, additional refinements will take place across various hotel facilities, in line with our continued commitment to maintenance and thoughtful design.
For a century, Gstaad Palace has been a symbol of timeless hospitality, where dining was more than a sustenance – it was, and still is, an occasion. But now, it’s time to give the four walls of our main dining room a slightly more glamorous touch.
After many months of renovation, and an extensive amount of materials we are happy to welcome you to our newly renovated Grand Restaurant, a place where traditions meet modernity, combined with its international touch – where the spirit of a grand hotel awakens the present moment.
Carefully reimagined, the interiors blend heritage with fresh sophisticated pale green hand-painted walls, gilded antique mirrors, and dark silver coffered ceilings evoke a sense of graceful nostalgia.
Elegant lounges with mohair velour armchairs, soft woolen carpets, and Murano chandeliers with gold inlays create an atmosphere that is warm, intimate, and distinctly Palace.
Touches of craftsmanship - ornamental ceilings, carved wood details, and library doors hidden in the buffet walls bring depth and character, while eclectic accents infuse the space with cosmopolitan flair.
Besides all the new glamour remains the hospitality that feels personal, engaging and seamless, because we care not only about delicious food but also fundamentally about people.
May your memories of Le Grand Restaurant be cherished, and your curiosity heightened by its unraveling! Stay tuned for the grand opening next winter season 2025-2026!

7.30 am
I wake to the soft glow of the morning sun filtering through my suite’s curtains at the Gstaad Palace. A warm breeze carries the scent of alpine air and the distant sound of cowbells. On the balcony, I take in the stunning view—green meadows stretching toward snow-dusted peaks.
A peaceful start to the day.
10.00 am
8.00 am
At the Grand Restaurant, the aroma of coffee and pastries fill the air. I enjoy a light Swiss breakfast: flaky croissants, creamy yogurt, and fresh juice. Through wide windows, the mist lifts from the Alps, revealing a vibrant summer landscape.
Refreshed, I set out on an e-bike ride toward Lake Lauenen. The trail winds past wildflower meadows and wooden chalets bursting with geraniums. I coast down gentle slopes, stopping often to admire the postcard-worthy views.
12.00 pm
Back in the village, I wander through Gstaad’s boutiquelined streets, discovering handmade scarves, leather goods, and elegant timepieces. I pause at Charly’s café for a coffee and some people-watching under the summer sun.
5.00 pm
1.00 pm
I return to the Palace and settle in for lunch by the Olympic-sized outdoor pool, the «PISCINE». It’s a popular spot for friends and families. The menu blends Mediterranean flavors with fresh local ingredients perfect for a relaxed lunchtime break.
As the sun peaks, I retreat to the spa. A dip in the outdoor infinity pool brings calm, with sweeping views over the valley. Birds sing in the distance. A soothing massage wraps up the afternoon perfectly.
6.30 pm
I head to the terrace as the sky turns golden. With a glass of Swiss white wine in hand, I soak in the soft, fading light. The atmosphere is cheerful but calm just right.
10.00 pm
8.00 pm
Dinner at Le Grande Terrasse is served outdoors, surrounded by candlelight and flowers. The dishes are seasonal and flavorful, the setting warm and inviting.
I return to my suite with a digestif. The sound of distant music drifts in as I settle into bed, grateful for a day filled with nature and calmness. Sleep comes easily.

By the 18th century, travelers were already captivated by the scenic beauty of Gstaad. The 19th century saw the rise of tourism, further accelerated by the completion of the Montreux-Oberland railway in 1905, which connected Gstaad to the world. In 1906, the first tourist associations in Gstaad and Saanen were established, marking the foundation of the region’s growing hospitality industry.
The early 20th century marked the start of luxury hotel construction, most notably the Gstaad Palace in 1913. The 1920s were marked by investments in recreational facilities, including a spa, golf course, and tennis courts. By the 1930s and 1940s, infrastructure developments continued with innovations like the Wispile funicular toboggan run and the Wasserngrat chairlift, which was operational during summer.
The Gstaad Tennis Open was first organized in 1915 at the Royal Hotel & Winter Palace Gstaad to attract visitors and attract players. The sport gained popularity, leading to the foundation of the Lawn Tennis Club Sarina in 1931. In 1937, it gained official recognition from the International Lawn Tennis Federation and was renamed the International Tennis Championships of Switzerland. Post-World War II, the tournament was commercialized and rebranded as the Swiss Tennis Open.

Simultaneously, tourism in the region continued its upward trajectory. Despite wartime struggles, Gstaad appointed its first wellness director in 1942, and under Paul Valentin (1952–1982), former director of the tourist board, the area witnessed a period of remarkable expansion, culminating in economic success by the 1980s.
