Le doti da fonico di Rick Rubin sono quasi nulle. Sa a malapena usare un mixer, cosa che lo rende un produttore anomalo. Il lavoro che Rubin fa in studio di registrazione è invece quello di gettarsi su un divano, maglietta bianca e bermuda neri, e iniziare sull’artista un lavoro quasi psicanalitico, cercando i punti deboli da evitare e quelli forti su cui fare leva. È una specie di manipolatore, con un fiuto allucinante per gli affari e una capacità persuasiva leggendaria. Ha reso popolare l’hip hop negli anni ‘80 producendo artisti come i Beastie Boys, Public Enemy e i Run DMC, ma ha lavorato con artisti di ogni genere, dai Red Hot Chili Peppers, agli AC/DC, Aerosmith, Mick Jagger, Eminem e molti altri. Resta però scolpita nella pietra la sua collaborazione con Johnny Cash negli anni Novanta che resuscitò la carriera del mitico countryman. MTV l’ha definito “il produttore musicale più importante degli ultimi 20 anni”, ed è stato inserito dal Time nella lista delle 100 persone più influenti al Mondo. Le sue origini, i suoi luoghi, i suoi ricordi: nonostante un presente a stelle e strisce in California per Elisabetta Canalis Alghero, il mare, gli odori ed i sapori di casa rappresentano un richiamo continuo, che lei asseconda appena le è possibile, magari con figlia e marito. Perché la casa attuale della showgirl è a Los Angeles ma il Pacifico non è il Mediterraneo, l’acqua di Venice Beach non ha i colori di quella del mare di Sardegna ed anche i ritmi di vita non sono neppure lontanamente simili. Così non è insolito vedere passeggiare Elisabetta Canalis, splendida quarantenne non più legata ai clichè di bellezza di Striscia la Notizia o dei calendari, nei luoghi natii, libera da vincoli di lavoro: è quindi l’estate il periodo in cui è più facile riappropriarsi di spazi e affetti di famiglia, tornare nei posti amati e godersi la Sardegna in tutte le sue forme. Una soddisfazione che vale la pena di un volo transoceanico.

A satisfaction which is well worth a transatlantic flight.

The public will forever be the most bad mannered doctor (and the best loved one) of the TV scene. But few are aware that Hugh Laurie, eclectic and talented British actor, wrote a novel in 1996, the chart-busting best-seller thriller entitled The Gun Seller. What is coolest is that he also channelled his passion for Blues, which he has never renounced, into the creation of a band that sold one million copies. He performed with his Band from TV in charity shows throughout the United States, finally producing two albums: Let Them Talk in 2011 and Did not It Rain, which was released in 2013. Winner of two Golden Globes for his performance in Dr. House, in 2007 Queen Elisabeth officially made him an Officer of the Most Excellent Order of the British Empire. Last summer Laurie filmed some scenes of Catch 22 in Sardinia. The TV series directed by George Clooney unfolds in World War 2 with Laurie featuring as Major de Coverley, who headed the team stationed in Pianosa. Famous for his role as Dr. House in the namesake TV series, in Catch 22 directed by George Clooney Hugh Laurie (Oxford, 11 June 1959) plays the role of Major de Coverley.

George Clooney ha stregato il piccolo schermo girando una serie TV in Sardegna.

Per George Clooney l’Italia è la seconda casa. Quasi vent’anni fa è scoppiato l’amore per “Quel ramo del Lago di Como…”, dove il divo americano ha comprato Villa Oleandra, a Laglio (recentemente Obama gli ha fatto visita).

Per non parlare della Sardegna che ha trafitto il suo cuore una decina di anni fa quando frequentava l’ex velina di Sassari Elisabetta Canalis. Insomma è nato qualcosa d’intenso con il Bel Paese: non a caso l’attore Premio Oscar ha scelto Venezia per sposare Amal Alamuddin, da cui ha avuto due gemelli (Ella e Alexander di due anni). La scorsa estate Clooney è ritornato in terra sarda per girare la sua prima serie tv, Catch-22 (andata in onda su Sky Atlantic), basata sull’omonimo romanzo di Joseph Heller del 1961 (in Italia Comma 22 edito da Bompiani), uno dei classici della letteratura americana del XX secolo. Il protagonista è John Yossarian (Christopher Abbott), un bombardiere dell’USA Air Force di base a Pianosa, attraverso le cui azioni militari e non, viene raccontata, tra dramma e ironia, la follia della II guerra mondiale. George Clooney, in questo caso nelle vesti di attore (interpreta il sadico tenente Scheisskopf, ossessionato dall’addestramento dei giovani soldati), di regista (ha diretto due episodi) e produttore insieme all’amico Grant Heslov, ha trasformato l’aeroporto militare dismesso di Venafiorita, a Olbia, nel quartier generale di Pianosa (Livorno), e le altre location scelte dall’ottore di Gravity sono state Santa Teresa di Gallura, gli scogli di Capo Testa e Capo Ceraso a pochi km da Olbia.

Italy is George Clooney’s second home. Almost twenty years ago, the American star fell in love with “ That branch of Lake Como…”, where he bought Villa Oleandra in Laglio (Obama was a recent visitor). Not to mention Sardinia, which won his heart about ten years ago when he was dating former Sassari-born TV showgirl Elisabetta Canalis. In short, deep feelings grew for the “Bel Paese”. It is no coincidence that the Oscar-winning actor chose Venice for his marriage to Amal Alamuddin, with whom he has twins (two year- old Ella and Alexander). Last summer, Clooney returned to Sardinia to film his TV mini-series, Catch-22 (aired on Sky Atlantic), based on Jo seph Heller ’s 19 61 novel of the same name (Comma 22 in Italy, published by Bompiani), a classic of 20th century American literature. Protagonist of the sto ry is John Yossarian (Christopher Abbott), a US Air Force bombardier stationed on the island of Piano sa, whose military and other exploits underscore the insanity of WWI I in a mixture of drama and satire.

La Sardegna è un luogo meraviglioso abitato da persone meravigliose. Per non parlare del cibo e del vino.

Siamo arrivati in inverno e ce ne siamo andati in estate: abbiamo amato ogni singolo minuto di questa esperienza e abbiamo stretto grandi amicizie che resteranno impresse per la vita. L’Italia è la mia seconda casa.

Sardinia is a wonderful place inhabited by wonderful people. Not to mention the food and wine.

We arrived in winter and left in summer – we loved every single minute of this experience, and we made great friendships that will stay in our hearts forever. Italy is my second home.

Che cosa l’ha convinta a ritornare in tv (mancava dai tempi di E. R .- Medici in prima linea) come interprete e per la prima volta come regista?

What persuaded you to return to TV (after being absent since the days of E. R.) as an actor and as director for the f irst time?

Does the theme still resonate today?

È un tema sempre attuale?

In America abbiamo un esercito di volontari e quindi ci si dimentica che molti dei nostri ragazzi sono in Afghanistan. Oggi l’argomento trainante non è più la guerra come accadeva durante i conflitti in Vietnam o nel Golfo, ma con Catch-22 vogliamo soprattutto far riflettere sulle decisioni dissennate di uomini che manipolano le sorti dei più giovani, di uomini di potere che traggono vantaggio dai conflitti e dalle vite di chi le combatte.

Nella serie si è ritagliato anche il ruolo del cattivo tenente Scheisskopf.

Non potevo tirarmi indietro, dovevo interpretarlo a tutti i costi: mi è bastato capire il significato del suo nome (scopritelo ndr). E poi mi ha permesso di urlare a chiunque sul set: l’ho trovato terapeutico. Sorride Nel cast di Catch-22 spiccano anche Hugh Laurie di Dr. House, Kyle Chandler (nei panni del Colonnello Cathcart) e il nostro Giancarlo Giannini, che interpreta Marcello, il proprietario di un bordello di Roma. È stato un onore lavorare con Giancarlo Giannini.

Quando è arrivato sul set in Sardegna tutti si sono fermati a salutarlo, era come se si fosse presentato un re: era lui il divo della serie.

In America we have a volunteer army, and so we forget that many of our boys are in Afghanistan .

War is no longer a leading issue like it was during the conf licts in Vietnam or the Gulf, but what we want above all with Catch-22 is to make people think about the senseless decisions made by older men with the fate of younger men in their hands, men in power who reap benefit from wars and the lives of those who fight them .

In the series you also take on the role of maniacal Lieutenant Scheisskopf.

I couldn’t resist it, I had to play him at all costs when I found out what his name means. ( look it up - Ed .). And it meant I could yell at anyone on the set, I found that therapeutic. (Smiles).

The cast of Catch-22 also includes Hugh Laurie of Dr. House fame, Kyle Chandler (in the role of Colonel Cathcart) and our own Giancarlo Giannini, who plays Marcello, the owner of a Roman brothel .

It was an honour to work with Giancarlo Giannini. When he arrived on set in Sardinia everyone stopped to say hello to him, it was as if a king had appeared . He was the star of the series.

How has the TV series scene changed since E. R.?

Da E. R . ad oggi come è mutato il panorama delle serie tv?

When I was acting in E. R., there were the first signs that television was beginning to change – think of The Sopranos. In the meantime, quality has improved and productions have become almost “cinematographic”. In the past 5 – 6 years, broadcasts have transformed the audio -visual industry, of fering great opportunities to directors, actors and scenographers. A film like Good Night, and Good Luck (Clooney’s directorial debut - Ed .) would not be possible for the cinema, but would be perfect for streaming platforms looking for new talents.

Besides quality films and TV, you’re particularly involved with humanitarian work.

Quando recitavo in E.R. la televisione stava iniziando a cambiare, c’erano i primi segnali, pensiamo a I Soprano. Nel frattempo la qualità è migliorata e i prodotti sono diventati quasi “cinematografici”. Negli ultimi 5-6 anni i broadcast hanno trasformato il mondo dell’audiovisivo offrendo a registi, attori e sceneggiatori grandi opportunità. Oggi un film come Good Night, and Good Luck (l’opera prima di Clooney regista ndr) non sarebbe possibile per il cinema, ma sarebbe perfetto per le piattaforme streaming, in cerca di nuovi talenti.

Oltre al cinema e alla tv di qualità è particolarmente attento a chi è in difficoltà.

Ho lottato contro la Guerra in Darfur, ho lavorato per raccogliere fondi dopo tragiche calamità naturali che hanno colpito molti territori, come L’Aquila. Noi artisti non siamo dei politici che risolvono i problemi, ma possiamo aiutare a far riflettere su determinati argomenti.

I fought for an end to the war in Darfur, I’ve worked to raise funds after tragic natural disasters that have af fected many areas, such as L’Aquila . We artists are not politicians who resolve problems, but we can help them think about certain matters.

There are some who would like to see you in the White House. How do you feel about that?

Alcune voci la vorrebbero alla Casa Bianca. Che cosa ne pensa?

“Politics doesn’t seem like a very logical place for me. I have other talents, and unlike politicians, in my line of work I don’t have to make compromise about things I stand for. It’s a very nervous time around the world and many countries are sliding towards authoritarianism . However, I happen to be an optimist - sooner or later things will change.

La politica non è il luogo ideale per me. Ho altri talenti, e poi nel mio mestiere non devo scendere a compromessi, a differenza dei politici. Il mondo sta vivendo un periodo di tensione e molti paesi stanno scivolando verso posizioni autoritarie. Sono comunque ottimista: prima o poi le cose cambieranno.

Tra le varie iniziative dell’associazione, spiccano i progetti TrialWatchÒ, The Sentry e The Docket.

Among the organization’s various initiatives are its f lagship projects TrialWatchÒ, The Sentry and The Docket.

Spesso si parla di giustizia e di tutela dei diritti inviolabili dell’individuo, ma molto spesso ci si dimentica di quanto l’argine che divide l’uguaglianza formale da quella sostanziale sia ancora ampio. Per questo, George Clooney si è messo in prima linea in difesa dei più deboli. Molti si ricorderanno della sua ampia attività umanitaria in Sudan insieme al padre Nick, arrivando a documentare nel dettaglio la difficile situazione sociopolitica dei rifugiati nella zona del Dartfur.

Questo impegno civile si è di fatto rafforzato con Amal Alamuddin, giurista specializzata in diritto internazionale. L’incontro non solo si è tramutato in un matrimonio florido, ma ha portato anche alla creazione di Clooney Foundation for Justice, un’associazione il cui scopo è di far emergere le ingiustizie in regioni dove spesso i riflettori dei media non si diffondono come dovuto. Per farlo, George e Amal Clooney hanno attivato diversi progetti. Uno di questi ha il nome di TrialWatchÒ, un sistema di monitoraggio costante di alcune istituzioni giudiziarie che, anziché preservare il principio di eguaglianza, commettono delle violazioni di diritti umani nei confronti di oppositori politici o di minoranze etniche. CFJ offre inoltre un supporto finanziario notevole al team investigativo di The Sentry, co-fondato dallo stesso Clooney e da John Prendergast e che si offre di rintracciare il denaro sporco riciclato dai criminali di guerra e dai suoi collaboratori responsabili di alcuni dei più atroci crimini avvenuti in Africa. The Docket è infine una nuova proposta che si prefigge di assicurarsi che individui complici di reati internazionali abbiano nelle sedi competenti un processo legale che attesti la gravità dei loro gesti, in nome della verità e della preservazione della memoria storica.

We frequently speak of justice and safeguarding the individual’s inviolable human rights, but we often forget how wide the gap between of ficial and real equalit y still is. This is why George Clooney has put himself on the line in defence of the most vulnerable. Many will recall his humanitarian work in Sudan, where he and his father Nick made a documentary about the devastating socio -political situation of the refugees of Darfur. This social activism intensified on meeting international human rights lawyer, Amal Alamuddin.

The encounter not only blossomed into marriage, but also led to the creation of the Clo oney Foundation for Justice, an organization whose purpose is to highlight injustice in regions often ignored by the media . George and Amal Clooney have set up various projects to do this. One of these is TrialWatchÒ, an initiative focused on monitoring some judicial systems which rather than upholding the principles of equalit y, pose a high risk of human rights violations against political opponents or ethnic minorities.

CFJ also provides significant financial support to The Sentr y, an independent investigative team co -founded by George Clooney and John Prendergast that follows the dirt y money looted by the war criminals most responsible for Africa’s deadliest conf licts.

Finally, The Docket is a new initiative that aims to ensure that individuals and corpo rations that are complicit in international crimes face justice before courts that recognize the gravit y of their actions in the name of truth and collective cognizance.

Antonio Marras vive lì, l’atelier naturale dove la sua creatività esplode.

Antonio Marras lives there, in the natural atelier where his creativity runs free.

Sfilano una dietro l’altra, è l’uscita che conclude la sfilata. Per ultimo lui, il bambino della porta accanto. Sorride, nei suoi abiti mescolanza di memoria, tradizione e poesia. Sorride per la sua curiosità intellettuale che gli ha regalato senza clamore, peso e spessore nel luccicoso mondo della moda. In fondo Marras l’ha sempre detto che non gli interessano le tendenze, “non so cosa andrà nella prossima stagione” dice. Quegli occhi neri perforanti esplorano realtà e culture differenti. E le fa sue mixando gli stili, ricercando gli opposti da conciliare, ossequiando la tradizione sarda, il kimono giapponese, il cinema, l’arte, la musica, la danza, il teatro: per lui la moda è un nodo avviticchiato con gli altri linguaggi.

Tutto questo mentre continua a vivere fuori dal mondo concorde con le leggi della moda, lui vive nella sua Sardegna, nella sua Alghero, nella sua casa atelier di fronte alla irruenza di quel mare sardo vicino a Capo Caccia. L’esperienza di nascere su un’isola, su una terra limitata, evidentemente forgia i caratteri, accettando il viaggio come condizione permanente di vita e di lavoro

They walk down the runway, one after another, it’s the fashion show’s finale. He’s the last in line, as happy as a child. He smiles, thinking of his collection, a mixture of memories, tradition and poetry. He smiles, because of the intellectual curiosity that won him a place of prestige in the glittering world of fashion. After all, Marras has never gone after trends, “I have no idea what is going to be fashionable the next season”, he says. His black, piercing eyes explore different worlds and cultures. His style is a mix and match of styles, in a tribute to Sardinian tradition, Japanese kimonos, art, music, ballet, theatre. To Marras, fashion is a language intertwined with other languages. And he does all this from his house-atelier in Alghero, Sardinia, before the impetuous sea near Capo Caccia. The experience of being born on an island, on a land surrounded by water on all sides, clearly moulds one’s character, having to learn to accept travelling as a permanent condition in one’s personal and professional life.

You were born in Sardinia, an island. Are islanders better at fashion design?

Lei è nato in Sardegna, un’isola. Gli isolani fanno meglio la moda?

No, non credo. Noi, isolani, abbiamo solo la fortuna di essere circondati da sollecitazioni costanti ed infinite dovute a tradizioni millenarie che in un’isola si mantengono più forti e più integre, meno inquinate dalla globalizzazione.

Dalla Sardegna si traggono storie, colori, procedimenti artigianali ed elementi stilistici. Cerco di riconoscere, interpretare, ravvivare e riportare alla luce ciò che, stratificato nel tempo, costituisce l’essenza dell’isola. La Sardegna è un’isola straordinariamente affascinante, si trova al centro del Mediterraneo, in una posizione privilegiata. E’ stata crocevia di scambi, incontri e confronti con tanti popoli, si può dire che qui siano arrivati tutti, dai Fenici ai Punici, passando per Greci, Bizantini, Arabi, Catalani e tutti hanno lasciato segni, impronte, e caratteristiche tipiche di ogni cultura.

No, I don’t think so. But islanders have the privilege of being constantly and endlessly spurred by millenary traditions which are stronger and more resilient on an island, for they are less easily corrupted by globalization. Sardinia is an ongoing source of inspiration because of its stories, colors, artisan methods and stylistic details. I strive to recognize, interpret, revive and bring back to light the island’s essence, which has become stratified over time. Sardinia is an extraordinarily fascinating island and it is located in the middle of the Mediterranean sea, in a privileged position. Sardinia has always been at the crossroads of different cultures and peoples that have all landed on the island, from the Phoenicians to the Punics, Greeks, Byzantines, Arabs, Catalans and they all left their mark and contributions of each culture.

You work in the fashion business, but your headquarters are based in Sardinia. How do the two things coexist?

Lavora nella moda ma il suo headquarter è in Sardegna. Come convivono queste realtà?

Abito e lavoro in campagna, in una casa in collina, tra ulivi e mare, la mia isola personale.

Una casa-laboratorio, in cui i confini tra spazio privato e lavorativo sono molto sfumati. Qui si progettano e sperimentano soluzioni che verranno poi trasferite nella produzione industriale; qui nasce la Linea Laboratorio, che racchiude e riassume il mio modus operandi.

E’ uno spazio, una stanza, che mi sono ritagliato e difendo dalla tirannia dell’industria. Una linea di capi in edizione limitata, realizzata completamente a mano e interamente in Sardegna. Frutto del sapiente lavoro di sarte e ricamatrici di eccezionale bravura,

I live and work in the countryside, in a house in the hills, between olive trees and the sea, my own private island. A house-workshop, in which the boundaries between private and professional spaces are quite blurred. Here is where I design and test solutions which are then applied to the industrial production, here is where the Laboratorio Line, which is the fullest expression of my mode of operating, is created. It is a space, a room, which I have carved out for myself and I protect from the tyranny of the fashion industry. A collection of limited edition garments, entirely made by hand and in Sardinia. Milano è la mia città d’adozione. Mi piace tantissimo e mi trovo perfettamente a casa. A Milano ho l’headquarter come showroom per la vendita e l’uffico stampa e soprattutto esiste Nonostante Marras un grande concept store vissuto come spazio polifunzionale, luogo non esclusivamente legato all’esposizione e alla vendita, ma luogo in cui si sta bene, riservato e aperto, accogliente, “ospitante” nel senso che questa parola aveva nell’antica Grecia, in Sardegna, nel Mediterraneo, dove lo straniero, l’ospite, era sacro ed era considerato un delitto violare le leggi dell’ospitalità. Nonostante sia un luogo in cui ci si muove liberamente, come in un abito. L’abito è il primo spazio che ha l’uomo, difesa, protezione, sicurezza (l’etimologia di abito è la stessa di abitare, deriva dal verbo latino habeo, habere che vuol dire avere, possedere). Lo spazio si amplia, poi, nella stanza, nella casa, nel quartiere, nella città, nell’isola, nel mondo.

Io mi divido tra questi due mondi (Alghero e Milano) senza alcun problema né trauma. Mi sono ritagliato gli spazi a mia propria immagine e somiglianza.

work performed by extraordinarily clever dressmakers and embroiderers, the guardians of traditions handed down for millennia. Milan is my city of adoption. I love it and feel perfectly at home there. My showroom and press office are based in Milan, as well as Nonostante Marras, a large concept store designed to be a multipurpose space, not only for showcasing and selling my collections, but rather an open, cozy and welcoming place, hospitable in the meaning this word once had in ancient Greece, in Sardinia, in the Mediterranean area, where foreigners, guests, were sacred and breaking the laws of hospitality was a crime.

It is, nonetheless, a space where one can move about freely, like in a piece of clothing. Clothing is man’s first form of defense, protection and safety. The etymology of the Italian word “abito” (clothing) is the same as “abitare” (to live in), they both derive from the Latin verb habeo, habere, which means “to have”, “to own”. Then the space extends into the room, the house, the neighborhood, the city, the island, the world. I divide my time between these two worlds (Alghero and Milan) without any problem or stress. I created these spaces in my own image.

What is fashion to you?

Un pretesto per fare altro e di più.

Ho la fortuna di fare un lavoro che mi permette le commistioni più impensate. Ogni sfilata, infatti, è l’incontro di linguaggi differenti che generano cortocircuiti.

Io sono sempre stato un fautore e un grande sostenitore delle sfilate.

Niente e nessun’altra formula riesce a comunicare, a far passare un messaggio, a dare una lettura di un mondo, un punto di vista, una visione come la sfilata.

La sfilata è il momento topico, il coronamento di una fatica bellissima. Rappresenta l’acme di tutto il lavoro non solo degli ultimi sei mesi ma di tutto quello che, volente o nolente, ti porti addosso in tanti anni di lavoro. Il tuo lavoro e quello degli altri.

Una sfida, un continuo confronto/scontro. Un esame con una commissione implacabile, spesso annoiata e giustamente molto esigente.

Per me la sfilata riassume tutto quello che avrei voluto fare: regia, scenografia, coreografia, musica, costumi.

Con la sfilata mi sono costruito un palcoscenico dove rappresentare e far vivere il mio mondo.

An excuse to do something different and more. I have the privilege of doing a job that allows me to mix and match in the most unexpected ways. Every fashion show, in fact, brings different languages together, generating “short circuits”. I’ve always been a great supporter of fashion shows. Nothing is able to communicate, convey a message, a reading of the world, a point of view, a vision as much as a fashion show. The fashion show is the key moment, the crowning of a beautiful struggle.

It represents the highest point of the hard work of not only the last six months but, whether you like it or not, of everything that you have been carrying with you in many years of work.

Your work and that of others. A challenge, an ongoing fight. An examination before an implacable examining board, usually bored and very demanding. To me, the fashion show is the summary of everything I would have enjoyed doing in life: direction, set design, choreography, music, costume design. The fashion show represents my own personal stage where I share my world with the audience.

You’re a fashion designer, dressmaker, costume designer, poet, painter, stage designer and theatre director. What are you the most fond of?

Non faccio distinzioni tra moda, arte, cinema , danza, letteratura, teatro. Tra cultura”alta “ e cultura popolare. Per me sono un tutt’uno. Amo la contaminazione, la variazione e penso che solo dalle relazioni fra le arti possano nascere strade nuove. Non esiste separazione tra le arti. Io, poi, ho la fortuna di fare un lavoro che mi permette le commistioni più impensate. Dalla moda non faccio che sconfinare in altri ambiti. I do not make a distinction between fashion, art, cinema, ballet, literature, theatre, between high culture and popular culture. To me, they are a unified whole. I love contamination, variations and I believe that only the relations between arts lead to new paths.

There is no separation between arts. Personally speaking, I am continuously crossing over from fashion into other fields. One of my distinctive traits is that of mixing and mingling, “invading” other fields to see what happens.

Islanders have a unique perception of space: to them travelling is a perennial “uprootedness”. My collections do not follow a trend.

Your collections, in fact, do not follow a trend. Your fashion style is highly imaginative, based on a combination of styles, on a mixture of inspirations.

Appunto, le sue collezioni non seguono una tendenza. Lei porta avanti una moda immaginosa, giocata sugli incroci di stili, su una mescolanza di riferimenti.

“Isola” significa “nel mare” e il mare per me è movimento continuo, agitarsi di onde, andare, venire. Il mare è libertà, non “isola” affatto la terra che circonda, anzi invita al viaggio. Per questo chi nasce in un’isola sente il bisogno di partire e poi tornare. La voglia di andare restando.

Una semplice lettura dei titoli delle mie collezioni rivela il mio mondo, le mie donne, in apparenza così lontane tra di loro, in realtà tutte forti, intelligenti, creative e indipendenti.

Ogni collezione racconta una storia diversa, non esiste un tema ricorrente e neppure un preciso tipo di femminilità a cui io mi riferisca. Confesso che temo sempre la domanda sulla mia donna ideale: la donna sarda, forte e fiera o una donna più globale e ideale?

Mi sembra poco rispettoso ridurre le donne a un “tipo”, a uno stereotipo da prendere a modello. La realtà femminile è variegata, stratificata, molteplice e in un abito, nei suoi segni, nelle sue forme e, soprattutto, in quello che racconta, deve riconoscersi e scoprire la storia della propria identità. Ci sono donne che mi attraggono, ad esempio Pina Bausch, Silvana Mangano, Isabelle Huppert. Certo, quando disegno sogno una donna libera che possa esprimere e realizzare sogni e desideri. Così sono nate le collezioni dedicate a tante donne, Maria Lai, “Fili Lai Lai”, Ligazzos rubios, Annemarie Schwarzenbach, Badd’e Salighes, Il sogno di andar restando, L’amore quando ti colpisce…, Gonario e Luisedda, Amelie, Eleonora d’Arborea, Rina de Liguoro, Casa di bambola, Sorelle Altara, Ofelia, Charlotte Salomon, Camille Claudel, Blanquita Suarez, Paska Devaddis…

“Island” means “at sea” and, to me, the sea is ongoing motion, the constant coming and going of waves. The sea is freedom, is doesn’t actually “isolate” the land it surrounds, on the contrary, it is an incitement to travel. That is why those who are born on an island always feel the need to leave and then come back.

The longing to stay and go at the same time. The names of my collections clearly express my vision of the world and of women, seemingly so different from one another, but actually all so strong, smart, creative and independent. Each collection tells a different story, there is never a recurring theme and not even a specific type of femininity I draw inspiration from. I must admit that I always dread the question about my ideal type of woman: the Sardinia woman, strong and proud, or the more global and ideal type? I believe it is not respectful to reduce women to a stereotype that many do not fit into. The female world is varied and diversified and each woman must recognize herself in and identify with the clothes she wears. There are women I’m very much attracted to, such as Pina Bausch, Silvana Mangano, Isabelle Huppert. When I design my collections, I picture an independent woman who is free to express her dreams and wishes. Marcello Chiodino è molto più che un fotografo. Nato in Sardegna, dove tutt’ora vive e lavora, anche se spesso lo vedi partire alla scoperta di nuovi scenari naturali nel Nord Europa, Africa e Sud America, è innamorato da sempre della natura e del mare. Marcello ha trasformato le sue passioni nell'arte della fotografia paesaggistica, affinata con una Laurea in Pianificazione del Paesaggio e poi con un Master Europeo per giugnere ad elaborare in modo unico e originale la connessione tra ambiente e territorio, spinto anche da una forte a vocazione per la conservazione e tutela del paesaggio. Nasce Pacifico Rosemary, ristorante gourmet con un pizzico di nostalgia.

È forse più un sogno carico di nostalgia e di ricordi che un business l’apertura di Pacifico Rosemary, il nuovo ristorante di Liscia di Vacca, nel cuore della Costa Smeralda.

Jacopo e Leonardo Signani, che insieme a Guillaume Desforges hanno creato quella che, oramai, è la catena di ristoranti Pacifico, già presenti a Milano e Roma, hanno infatti trascorso le estati della loro infanzia e giovinezza a pochi metri dall’antica Rosemary.

Qui venivano con i nonni ed i genitori in quelli che erano gli anni d’oro della Costa Smeralda.

Rosemary nasce nel 1969, su volontà di una allora giovane Susan Ayme, inglese di nascita, che decide di aprire un ristorante con una cucina semplice, contaminata da spunti britannici e mediterranei, in cui il grande barbecue posto nel giardino fronte mare ed i dolci erano assoluti protagonisti. L’architettura e gli arredi erano semplici, nel rispetto della casa all’interno della quale il ristorante era ospitato, ovvero il vecchio “staz-

zu” di proprietà della famiglia Orecchioni, prima ed unica famiglia di Liscia di Vacca, tutt’oggi proprietaria dell’immobile. Per decenni, questo luogo semplice ma a suo modo raffinatissimo è stato il luogo favorito da scrittori, finanzieri, artisti e star del cinema, che qui trovavano un servizio informale e rilassato, una sorta di nascondiglio tra la vegetazione della macchia di vegetazione mediterranea. Rosemary è stato, per oltre 40 anni, il ristorante più famoso ed affascinante della Costa Smeralda. È Pacifico Rosemary si pone come obiettivo principale quello di recuperare e di essere ambasciatore di quello spirito che caratterizzò gli “Anni d’oro” della Costa Smeralda.

Naturalmente l’attuale versione del ristorante è rinnovata e “rinfrescata” per soddisfare il gusto e le esigenze della clientela contemporanea.

Il design ed il decoro del locale - curati dalla interior designer Marsica Fossati e progettati dell’architetto Simone Colombo dello Studio SC+ e Associati di Milano- sono stati pen-

sati per conservare e proseguire la tradizione di Rosemary, che affonda le proprie radici negli stilemi semplici e colorati degli anni ‘70: mobili rustici dipinti a mano, sedute di bambù e giunco, tavoli di ginepro locale, tessuti marini; tutto richiama un’epoca in cui la semplicità e la spensieratezza erano le parole d’ordine.

Anche i leggendari murales floreali e la grande scritta ‘Rosemary’ sono stati restaurati e riportati agli antichi splendori. Il giardino panoramico, affacciato sulla baia di Liscia di Vacca, vuole proseguire la macchia mediterranea, con una successione di lentischi, fichi d’India, alberi di fico selvatico e cespugli di rosmarino.

Il concept di cucina è memore della tradizione mediterranea di Rosemary: per la prima volta, Pacifico amplierà la propria proposta culinaria, affiancando alla cucina -Peruviana-nikkei - DNA del gruppo, di cui il famoso ceviche è star assoluta - una carta “Grill Mediterranea”, grazie all’imponente barbecue posto al centro del giardino panoramico,

ed una sezione del menu “Raw Bar” dedicata alle specialità di pesce crudo di ispirazione italo-giapponese, come carpacci, sushi e grandi piatti di crostacei e conchiglie. La maggior parte della materia prima ittica è di provenienza locale, anche grazie ai numerosi pescherecci indipendenti presenti nella zona. Vera e propria star del menu barbecue è poi la vacca di Wagyu 100% Giapponese: l’intero animale viene macellato in esclusiva per Pacifico Rosemary e proposto in molteplici tagli, anche i più inconsueti, nell’arco di tutta l’estate, con la possibilità da parte dei clienti di grigliare personalmente alcune selezioni di tagli su mini-barbecue ai tavoli.

Alla guida della cucina Jaime Pesaque, Corporate Chef ed un po’ anima gastronomica di Pacifico, affiancato da Nicolas Schmidt come Exectutive Chef.

Se esiste un luogo dove il mare chiama, come direbbe Alessandro Baricco, con i suoi colori, con la voce del vento e le rocce lunari, questo è la Sardegna.

A chi ha occhi sensibili per comprendere il linguaggio della natura, quest’isola è un’esplosione di bellezza che richiede cura e tutela. Il Consorzio Costa Smeralda ha recentemente premiato Piero Angela per il suo contributo alla divulgazione scientifica e per l’utilizzo della sua immagine volto a sensibilizzare, diffondere e promuovere la cultura del rispetto dell’ambiente marino.

Un racconto della sua esperienza al Premio Costa Smeralda e dei luoghi che ha visitato in quell’occasione.

I premi sono molto importanti, non tanto in sé ma in quanto mostrano che il lavoro che si fa viene poi apprezzato da un numero di persone che, come in questo caso, hanno competenza sugli argomenti trattati, come ad esempio l’inquinamento marino. Qui in Costa Smeralda ho ammirato l’ulivo millenario di Luras, dichiarato Monumento Naturale e poi, per la prima volta, un nuraghe. Sono stato colpito dall’imponenza di questi grandi monumenti e da questa civiltà scomparsa ma che ha lasciato testimonianze impressionanti.

Prima di allora aveva mai ammirato le bellezze della Sardegna?

Ho avuto modo di visitare la Sardegna per brevi occasioni professionali. Tra l’altro ho avuto una laurea honoris causa in Biologia dall’Università di Cagliari. La mia prima visita è stata nel 1968, con mia moglie e i miei figli all’isola della Maddalena, con qualche escursione a Caprera e al Museo di Garibaldi. Però, improvvisamente, sono dovuto rientrare col primo volo a Roma, richiamato in redazione per gli scontri della Primavera di Praga. Infine, ad Alghero ho avuto la mia prima esperienza d’immersione subacquea. Anche se sono un animale terrestre e preferisco stare sulla terra, devo ammettere che è stato molto bello vedere il mare della Sardegna da laggiù.

Quali aspetti dell’isola approfondirebbe per un servizio a Superquark: storia millenaria, natura, costumi, morfologia?

La Sardegna è un posto bellissimo dove la natura è ancora molto forte. Del resto, è un’isola che proprio per la sua posizione è rimasta fuori dalle grandi colonizzazioni, quindi anche la popolazione è rimasta omogenea e ha conservato una forte personalità culturale. Fra tutte le bellezze naturali della Sardegna forse per Superquark, che è un programma di approfondimento scientifico, mi soffermerei sull’ambiente del mare.

La nuova edizione di Superquark è tornata su Raiuno dal 26 giugno con 8 nuovissime puntate: ci dà qualche anticipazione?

If there is a place where, as Alessandro Baricco would say, the sea calls, with its colours, the voice of the wind and lunar-like rocks, it is Sardinia.

To those who have the sensitivity to understand the language of nature, this island is an explosion of beauty demanding care and protection.

The Consorzio Costa Smeralda has recently honoured Piero Angelo for his contribution to the public understanding of science and the use of his image to raise awareness, disseminate and promote a culture of respect for the marine environment.

Tell us about your experience at the Premio Costa Smeralda and the places you visited on that occasion.

Awards are very important, not so much in themselves but for how they show that the work one does is then appreciated by a number of people who, as in this case, have expertise in the issues in question, like marine pollution for example.

Here on the Costa Smeralda I admired the millennial olive tree in Luras, given Natural Monument status, and then, for the first time, a nuraghe. I was struck by how imposing these great structures are, and by this lost civilization which left behind such impressive testimonies.

Had you ever enjoyed the beauty of Sardinia before now?

I have had occasion to visit Sardinia briefly for professional reasons. Among other things, I received an honorary degree in Biolog y from the University of Cagliari. My first visit, with my wife and children, was in 1968 to La Maddalena island, with excursions to Caprera and the Garibaldi Museum.

However, I was suddenly recalled to the newsroom because of the Prague Spring confrontations and had to take the first flight back to Rome. Finally, I had my first scuba diving experience in Alghero. Even if I’m a terrestrial animal and prefer to stay on land, I have to admit it was amazing to see the Sardinian sea from down there.

Which aspects of the island would you explore in depth for a Superquark report: its millenary history, nature, customs or morpholog y?

Sardinia is an incredibly beautiful place where nature is still very strong. Furthermore, it is an island which, precisely due to its position, has escaped the great colonisations, so also the population has remained homogeneous and preserved a strong cultural identity. Among all of Sardinia’s natural beauties, I would probably feature the marine environment for Superquark, which is a programme with a scientific focus.

Davvero interessante la serie della BBC in apertura del programma e molti servizi sulle novità in materia di scienza e tecnologia. Ad esempio, sempre per restare in Sardegna dove il vento è uno scultore che plasma la natura, mostreremo l’innovativa galleria del vento dove si misura e si testa l’aerodinamicità delle navi.

Quanto è importante per l’umanità la tutela del mare?

Del mare mi sono occupato in varie occasioni, soprattutto dal punto di vista ambientale. Tra l’altro ho scritto un libro Oceano-Il gigante addormentato sull’inquinamento marino e il riscaldamento globale. E’ molto importante capire le conseguenze di questi fattori sul mare in un Paese come l’Italia, immerso nelle acque del Mediterraneo. I nostri politici dovrebbero seriamente occuparsi di questo tema, prevedere norme concrete per combattere l’incuria e il mancato rispetto di regole. Il mare non è una discarica ma una grande risorsa per il nostro Paese e le sue bellissime isole. Il mare è di tutti e bisogna che tutti si impegnino a fare la loro parte per questo immenso patrimonio dell’umanità da tutelare.

Lei è stato il primo in Italia ad avere esercitato il giornalismo culturale di divulgazione scientifica. Il segreto della sua lunghissima carriera.

Impegnarsi, studiare, essere creativi. Essere sempre dalla parte del pubblico, non ingannarlo mai.

How important for humanity is safeguarding the sea?

I have dealt with the subject of the sea on a various occasions, especially from an environmental perspective. Among other things, I wrote a book Oceano-Il gigante addormentato (Ocean – The Sleeping Giant) on marine pollution and global warming. It is essential to understand the consequences of these factors for the sea in a country like Italy, surrounded by the waters of Mediterranean. Our politicians should deal seriously with this issue and introduce specific norms to combat neglect and the lack of respect for the rules. The sea is not a dumping ground but a great resource for our country and its beautiful islands. The sea belongs to everyone, and it is vital that everyone commits to playing their part in protecting this immense human heritage.

You were the f irst in Italy to practice popular science journalism. What is the secret of your long career?

Being committed, studying, being creative. Always being on the side of the public and never misleading it.

Th e dream, or more accu rately, th e project, wa s that of Prin ce Karim Aga Khan, who, 57 years ago transform ed his il lu minated vision into rea l it y: s o, on 14th March 19 62 th e Cons ortiu m wa s fou nded, a nonprofit a ss o ciation with six fou nders: in addition to th e Prin ce th ere were a ls o Patrick Gu inn ess, Fel ix Bigio, John Du n can Mil ler, Andrè Ardo in and Ren é Po dbielski, s ea l ing th e internationa l natu re of th e idea .

Th e Articles of Ass o ciation were drafted and work to carry out th e u rban and territoria l developm ent and architectu ra l monitoring of th e area, th en l ittle more than wild and with Natu re a s th e great protagonist, b egan . Th e n ext step wa s to establ ish a prestigious Architectu re Committee app o inted to draft mindful developm ent plans and to carry out an architectu ra l monitoring which would guarantee pres ervation of th e pre- existing natu ra l h eritage and outl in e a st yle which could blend th e natu ra l b eaut y with elem ents of th e bu ilding tradition of this part of Sardinia . Famous architects were invited to jo in th e Committee: Lu igi Vietti, Jacq ues Couël le, Mich ele Busiri Vici, a des cendent of an aristo cratic Roman family of architects dating back to th e end of th e Baro q ue p erio d, and Antonio Simon Mo ssa . From th eir minds, th eir design exp erien ce and th eir vision of architectu re, combin ed with safeguarding th e environm ent, sprang th e idea of Prin ce Aga Khan, who p ers ona l ly led th e Committee in bu ilding s ettlem ents which were th e foreru nn ers of sustainable developm ent .

Th e result in terms of town-planning q ua l it y and layout of th e territory is an example of h ea lthy and ba lan ced tou rist developm ent .

Over th e years, th e Cons orzio Co sta Sm era lda continued th e project, developing an area u nder th e control of its own technica l and lands cap e b o dies.

But th e tu rning p o int arrived with an imp ortant British finan cier ca l led John Du n can Mil ler, who, after fa l l ing love with th e colou rs of th e s ea, sp oke with enthusia sm ab out th e b eauties of th e Ga l lu ra area with th e finan cia l circles of London, to which th e Aga Khan hims elf b elonged . Th e crysta l l in e waters, th e white sand and th e ro cks mo del led by th e wind prepared th ems elves to b ecom e th e throbbing h eart of a project which would write th e history of internationa l tou rism . In just a few months, at Monti di Mola, th e pu rcha s e and sa le of plots of land, which b elonged more or less to two large Ga l lu ra famil ies ca l led Azara and Orecchioni, b egan . Tradizione ed innovazione nel cantiere SNO Yachts.

Il legame tra un’isola e il proprio mare è ovviamente imprescindibile e i sardi, che sono un popolo di navigatori fin dalle origini ma che poco sono conosciuti rispetto ad altri per questa propensione alla navigazione, hanno nel loro dna anche l’ingegneria navale, fin dai tempi dell’età del ferro e del bronzo, quando affrontare il mare significava affidarsi al volere degli dei e alla guida delle stelle.

A distanza di millenni dalle prime uscite in aperto Mediterraneo la Sardegna continua ad offrire genio e innovazione ed a distinguersi anche in campo navale.

Un esempio è alle porte della Costa Smeralda, con Novamarine, che proprio nelle acque cristalline di questa zona vara le proprie imbarcazioni ed in particolari i gommoni, segno distintivo del brand.

Ma non inganni il nome, perché stiamo parlando di imbarcazioni non tradizionali, con tubolari gonfiati ad aria, ma di prodotti realizzati in materiale espanso: un mezzo più unico che raro sul mercato e per questo esempio di innovazione e coraggio imprenditoriale.

Tutto nasce all’interno del cantiere SNO Yachts di Olbia, dove ingegneri, designers, maestranze qualificate ed operai specializzati lavorano in team: la tecnica usata è quella dell’infusione, con tubolari in politilene espanso a cellula chiusa per ottenere stabilità di navigazione e maggiore spazio interno.

Tra l’altro tutto personalizzabile dal cliente visto che gran parte dei componenti è realizzata a mano, legame questo con la tradizione e l’artigianalità tipiche della zona. Ma visto che i millenni passato e le sensibilità aumentano e cambiano nella Costa Smeralda del 2019 c’è spazio anche per la certificazione ISO 9001:2008 assicurata da Novamarine.

E se il “cliente” non è un privato ma riferibile al campo militare c’è la linea “Professional” che rende i gommoni adatti al pattugliamento delle coste, al controllo o al salvataggio in mare. Le altre quattro linee in produzione sono Black Shiver, mezzi nautici dagli 8,5 ai 24 metri, HD, imbarcazioni più robuste, RH con il tubolare gonfiato ad aria, ed i Tender per i maxi yachts, che in Costa Smeralda rappresentano non solo un classico ma anche un grande sbocco di mercato.

Il resto lo fa il mare, lo stesso che vide partire i popoli nuragici con imbarcazioni in legno dirette verso sud o verso la costa italica sia per commerciare che per battaglie di cui sono rimaste pochissime tracce ma molte leggende.

The bond between an island and its surrounding sea is obviously fundamental, and the Sardinians, who have always been navigators but are less known than others for this aptitude, have also had ship building in their DNA since the Iron and Bronze Ages, when going to sea meant putting one’s life in the hands of the gods and relying on the stars for guidance.

Thousands of years after those first sorties into the open Mediterranean, Sardinia continues to of fer brilliance and innovation, and make its mark also in the nautical field . One example is just along from the Costa Smeralda, where Novamarine launches its boats, and especially the brand’s signature dinghies, into this area’s crystalline waters.

But don’t be deceived by the name, because we are not talking about the traditional kind of dinghy with air-inf lated tubes, but of products in expanded material, in a class of their own and an example of innovation and entrepreneurial courage. Everything takes place at the SNO Yachts shipyard in Olbia, where engineers, designers, trained and skilled shipwrights and workers cooperate as a team . The technique used is that of infusion, with closed cell expanded polyethylene tubes to provide stability and greater inside space.

Furthermore, everything can be customized by the customer since most of the components are handmade, a link with the traditional craftsmanship typical of this area . However, seeing that centuries have passed and awareness increases and changes, on the Costa Smeralda of 2019 there is also a place for the ISO 9001:2008 certification guaranteed by Novamarine.

Should the customer be not private but military, there is the “Professional” line which makes dinghies suitable for coastal patrols, surveillance or sea rescues. The other four lines in production are the Black Shiver range of 8. 5 to 24 metre boats, the semi-rigid H D, the air-inf lated RH and Tenders for mega-yachts, which are not only a fixture on the Co sta Smeralda, but also a great market outlet The sea does the rest, the same sea that saw the Nuragic people set sail in wooden boats heading south or towards the Italic coast, either to trade or for battles of which very few traces but many legends have survived .

La rotta di Renato Azara verso un sogno possibile.

Renato Azara’s course towards a possible dream.

“E il mare concederà a ogni uomo nuove speranze, come il sonno porta i sogni”. Parole di oltre sei secoli fa pronunciate da chi di mare se ne intendeva, Cristoforo Colombo, che solcando le onde ha fatto scoprire un mondo nuovo ed ha aperto una nuova era.

Far scoprire un mondo antico, molto antico, è invece l’obiettivo, non solo il sogno, di Renato Azara con il suo progetto Adelasia Spirit of Sardinia, una fondazione che l’imprenditore sardo ha creato per portare la cultura della Sardegna nel mondo attraverso lo sport, la ricerca scientifica e la salvaguardia del mare.

Tutto nel nome di una regina vissuta ottocento anni fa nel cuore della Sardegna, stimolo ed esempio di coraggio per Azara, skipper abituato a regatare, anche con successo, in mari agitati e stimolanti al tempo stesso.

Qual è il suo rapporto con l’isola?

Io sono un cittadino del mondo, ma sono nato in Costa Smeralda 62 anni fa, figlio di genitori sardi e quindi ho un legame molto forte. Ho lavorato da ragazzo al Pitrizza e poi ho fatto le mie esperienze in giro per il mondo. Ho passato anni lontano dalla Sardegna ma ci sono tornato definitivamente a 40 anni. Più passa il tempo e più il rapporto diventa profondo e per questo ho pensato di donare parte di me a questa terra, affinché venga raccontata, conosciuta e promossa.

Si è dedicato a questa terra in molteplici vesti, dallo sport alla politica. Si sente ricambiato? È molto difficile essere ricambiati, viviamo in un momento di grande disorientamento, soprattutto da parte dei giovani che oggi non hanno la consapevolezza del passato e della storia e quindi con i nuovi media guardano più a quello che è lontano anziché a quello che è vicino. Così si allontanano dall’essere sardi nella propria terra. Così è più difficile trovare condivisione di quello che si fa e a me piace partecipare attivamente alle azioni sociali, come il candidarsi per fare politica, il condividere ideali, visioni. E una di queste azioni è il navigare, portando questi messaggi a bordo di Adelasia.

Il progetto America’s Cup ha quindi seguito un altro vento?

Per l’America’s Cup siamo entrati in una sorta di oblio e alla fine abbiamo detto di no, dopo essere stati vicini per tre volte alla partecipazione. Purtroppo anche in quell’ambito non veniva riconosciuto lo spirito con il quale il progetto e il messaggio di Adelasia erano nati. Alla luce di quello che sta succedendo per quella competizione, con tutta la tecnologia delle barche ed i continui rinvii, forse la Coppa America non era il giusto canale per far conoscere la Sardegna. Ma il viaggio continua su altre rotte sportive, culturali e scientifiche e durerà per i prossimi 15 anni, non abbiamo fretta.

Words said over six centuries ago by someone who knew a thing or two about the sea, Christopher Columbus, who crossed the oceans to discover a new world and start a new era.

By contrast, rediscovery of an ancient, very ancient world, is not just the dream but the aim of Renato Azara with his Adelasia Spirit of Sardinia project, the foundation created by the Sardinian businessman to promote Sardinia’s culture worldwide through sport, scientific research and protection of the sea.

All in the name of a queen who lived eight hundred years in the heart of Sardinia and an inspiration and example of courage for Azara, a skipper used to racing, with success, in rough but nevertheless exciting seas.

What is your relationship with the island?

I’m a citizen of the world, but I was born on the Costa Smeralda 62 years ago, the son of Sardinian parents, and so I have very strong ties with it. I worked at the Hotel Pitrizza as a youngster, and then acquired lots of experience around the world. I spent many years away from Sardinia, but I came back for good when I was 40. The more time passes, the deeper the relationship becomes and that’s why I decided to give a part of myself to this land so that its story becomes known, acknowledged and promoted.

You have dedicated yourself to this land in many roles, from sport to politics. Do you feel appreciated?

It’s very difficult to be appreciated; we’re living in greatly disorienting times, especially for today’s young people who have no awareness of the past and history and so with new media they look more at what is far away rather than at what is close at hand. In this way they distance themselves from being Sardinians in their own land. So it’s more difficult to find sharing of what one does, and I like to take an active part in social actions such as running for political office, sharing ideals and visions.

And one of these activities is sailing, carrying these messages aboard Adelasia.

So the America’s Cup project has followed another wind?

With the America’s Cup we entered into a sort of black hole, and after being close to taking part three times, in the end we said no. Unfortunately, the spirit on which the Adelasia project and message are based was not recognized even in those circles. In the light of what is happening with that competition, with all the technology and the continuous postponements, perhaps the America’s Cup wasn’t the right channel for making Sardinia known. But the voyage continues on other sporting, cultural and scientific routes and will last for the next 15 years - we’re not in any hurry.

Which is the first place you would take someone who has never been to Sardinia?

Nei boschi del Goceano, dove Adelasia ha vissuto gli ultimi anni della sua vita e dove si trovano alture, montagne e il suo castello di Burgos.

Un pregio ed un difetto dei sardi.

Il pregio è di essere nati e di vivere in Sardegna, dove ci sono sì dei ritardi che però possono diventare risorse. Il difetto è di non essere consapevoli di questa fortuna. L’azione di Adelasia e del mio team di velisti, archeologi e di persone che vogliono affrontare questo viaggio è mirata a far sì che questa consapevolezza cresca nei giovani, nelle scuole, ovunque.

Si torna e si ritorna a Parigi, e poi vi si torna ancora. La capitale europea è la più amata dagli Italiani, ma ogni volta, grazie ai suoi angoli più nascosti, ai luoghi da veri “locali”, alle rotte fuori dal turismo di massa, ci si continua a sorprendere con gioia. In molti hanno anche scritto libri e guide, da “Parigi insolita e segreta” di Jacques Garance e Maud Ratton (ed.

Jonglez) a “I segreti di Parigi. Luoghi, storie e personaggi di una capitale” di Corrado Augias (ed Mondadori), ma è bello avventurarsi nella sua dimensione più nascosta semplicemente camminando e lasciandosi trasportare dai sensi. La prima tappa è nei musei più amati dai parigini, come il Jacquemart-André, in un esclusivo hôtel particulier del XIX secolo nel cuore della Parigi haussmaniana, che custodisce la collezione d’arte fiamminga e rinascimentale della coppia Edouard André e Nélie Jacquemart, lasciata in eredità all’Institut de France: si gira di salone in salone, tra tele, arazzi, busti e affreschi di rara bellezza e si termina con una pausa nel delizioso salone da tè, allìinterno della loro ex sala da pranzo. Our first stop is one of the Parisians’ most beloved museums, the Jacquemart-André, housed in an exclusive nineteenth-century hôtel particulier, in the heart of the Haussmann district. The museum showcases the works of Flemish and Renaissance art which Edouard André and Nélie Jacquemart collected over their lives and bequeathed to the Institut de France: a tour of rooms filled with paintings, tapestries, busts and frescoes of rare beauty, crowned by a delicious tea break in the former owners’ dining room. Other private homes of artists converted into museums are the Musée Edith Piaf, containing the singer ’s memorabilia in the Ménilmontant district, and the Musée Eugène Delacroix, including the atelier by the same name in the garden, on Place Furstenberg, where the famous painter worked until his death.

Speaking of gardens, many are the green spaces and botanical parks full of lesser-known paths and corners.

Ma anche il seicentesco Jardin des Plantes, che seppur sia l’orto botanico più grande di Francia è tra i più “sussurrati”, e il Jardin du Panthéon Bouddhique, oasi Zen annessa al Museo Nazionale delle Arti Asiatiche- Guimet, ricca di bambù e ben mimetizzata nel caos parigino. Chi predilige altri indirizzi orientali ad alto tasso di quiete e di silenzio apprezza anche La Pagode, cinema-teatro nato nel 1896 nel VII arrondissement, con l’aspetto di una vera pagoda giapponese e un grazioso giardino dove oggi si può anche sorseggiare un tè. Sono numerosi i luoghi più appartati dove scoprire la capitale francese in un modo unico, anche per fermarsi per mangiare o prendere un aperitivo. Ad esempio, il Bistrot des Dames, “il miglior segreto del quartiere”, un patio-résto quasi invisibile tra piazza Clichy e Batignolles, circondato da edera e platani. Mentre il Pavillon Puebla si trova in un padiglione serra ottocentesco, nello storico parco des Buttes- Chaumont, Le Perchoir, della stessa proprietà, è già diventato uno degli indirizzi da non perdere grazie anche alla terrazza con vista sul Sacré- Coeur. Pavillon Puebla is housed in a nineteenth-century conservatory in the historic Buttes-Chaumont park, while Le Perchoir, by the same owner, has become one of the city’s go -to places because of the terrace with view of the SacréCoeur. From one view to the next. Café de l’Homme, a gourmet restaurant reachable by leisurely walking along Les Berges de Seine, a pedestrianized stretch of the river, affords a fine view of the nearby Eiffel Tower.

Tra centinaia di volumi di fotografia, arte, moda, design e architettura, le stesse passioni che avevano scandito la sua vita. E se si capita in rue Saint-Honoré, zona culto dello shopping, cercando magari qualche moda “très parisien”, ci si può fermare alla boutique di Anne Fontaine. La particolarità, qui, oltre alle sue iconiche camicie bianche, è soprattutto la spa firmata da Andrée Putman al piano inferiore: 500 mq benessere dal decor essenziale e chic, con hammam e sale trattamenti. Per rilassarsi con un massaggio a quattro mani, la tranquillità più assoluta e anche la dolcezza del puro cotone. E poi ci sono i Passages, le gallerie nate alla fine del Settecento che attraversano gli isolati facendosi strada tra i palazzi, di solito con soffitti di vetro decorati in stile Art Nouveau, tra cui il Passage du Grand Cerf, oppure all’aperto, ad esempio L’Homme, o più moderne e nuovi templi della gastronomia, come il Beaupassage. Un tempo rappresentavano un mondo a parte, lontano dal rumore della strada, nella Parigi ancora buia dell’epoca. Balzac, Baudelaire, Zola o Aragon le descrissero bene, Céline vi era cresciuto e i surrealisti le amavano.

Ma ancora oggi è incantevole ritrovare qui quell’atmosfera speciale, in una Parigi diversa e un po’ sospesa nel tempo.

And, finally, the Passages, the covered passageways built in the late 1700s which cut through the city blocks and alongside buildings, usually featuring Art Nouveau-style glass roofing, such as the Passage du Grand Cerf, or outdoors, L’Homme, or more modern and new culinary temples, like the Beaupassage. Once they were a world apart, far from the noisy streets, at a time when Paris streets were still narrow and dark. Balzac, Baudelaire, Zola and Aragon described them well, Céline grew up there and the surrealists loved them. And still, to this day, they retain a special atmosphere, as if suspended in time.

I nuovi yacht rivoluzionano il concetto del navigare, a suon di design e hi-tech.

The ultimate concept yachts f launt design trends that drastically change the idea of sailing.

Negli ultimi anni nautica e yacht design stanno affrontando progetti sempre più ambiziosi coniugando l’ingegneria navale con l’architettura internazionale, e prestando grande attenzione a nuovi materiali, eco-sostenibilità ed estetica. Il viaggio dunque diventa più importante della meta, e la qualità del tempo trascorso a bordo diventa inscindibile dalle prestazioni del natante.

Il panorama che si staglia è a dir poco spettacolare: prendono forma yacht-atolli, spuntano piscine pop-up vista oceano, cucine high-tech accolgono chef stellati, e piste di atterraggio per elicotteri diventano un must-have.

Emblematico è il caso di 500 Wallyace, design innovativo e straordinarie prestazioni. Il nuovo super yacht dislocante coniuga perfettamente l’inconfondibile stile Wally con l’architettura navale di Laurent Giles NA. Gli spazi esterni comunicano con le aree interne più private in uno scambio fluido e continuo privilegiando la vista sul mare. Anche il beach club diventa un tutt’uno col mare, trasformandosi in spiaggia, e consentendo un’esperienza pieds-dans-l’eau. Gli alloggi possono ospitare fino a 10-12 ospiti, 10 persone di equipaggio, e i sistemi di stoccaggio sono progettati per crociere lunghe e in totale autonomia.

Silhouette cool ed esplorazione senza limiti. Ispirandosi a questi concetti il designer Stefano Pastrovich ha progettato il mega yacht MY 77m X R-Evolution, formato da una grande imbarcazione-base che nasconde in sé moduli veloci e piccoli, utilizzabili per allontanarsi e godere del mare aperto. Oltre agli appartamenti, lo yacht accoglie una piscina, un giardino e una spiaggia con palme. Lo scafo che si contraddistingue per la grande leggerezza è realizzato in fibra di carbonio con ponti galleggianti in titanio e grandi aperture.

Grandi volumi e ampia vivibilità sono la cifra stilistica dello yacht 48 m Silver Fox di Baglietto. Forte di 350 mq di area totale, ne riserva gran parte alla convivialità e alla vita all’aria aperta, prevedendo

Aware of the altered approach to the project, designers propose innovative stylistic trends that clearly underscore the difference between living “on land” and at sea, seeking harmonious solutions that meet the shipowner’s needs in terms of personality and lifestyle. They propose high performance vessels that do not renounce the luxury and comfort of the most exclusive homes.

The view before our eyes is spectacular: atoll yachts, pop-up swimming pools with ocean view, high-tech kitchens transformed into the creative labs of highly acclaimed chefs, and helicopter landing pads become a must.

500 Wallyace is an iconic example. It stands apart for innovative design and extraordinary performance. The ultimate super yacht with displacement hull perfectly merges the unmistakable Wally style with the naval architecture of Laurent Giles NA. External areas are specially studied to communicate with the most private internal areas in a fluid and continuous exchange that privileges the sea view. Even the beach club is one with the sea, transformed into a beach with the highlight of a pieds-dans-l’eau experience.

The vessel can host up to 10-12 guests and a crew of 10. Storage systems are designed for long and entirely independent cruises.

Cool profile and unrestrained exploration.

Inspired by these concepts, the designer Stefano Pastrovich conceived the mega yacht MY 77m X R-Evolution comprising a large basic vessel that conceals small and rapid modules, which can be used to sail out into open seas. Besides apartments, the yacht includes a swimming pool, a garden and a beach with palm trees. The hull stands out for its remarkable lightness. In fact, it is made of carbon fibre with titanium floating decks and large awnings.

Il 72 metri Tankoa Solo non è solamente uno yacht splendido, progettato con sapienza da Francesco Paszkowski e dalla interior designer Margherita Casprini, ma è anche uno degli yacht tecnicamente più avanzati, eco-friendly e ben equipaggiato. Come tutti gli yacht della gamma Tankoa, è dotato di sistema di timoneria indipendente; accoglie 12 ospiti, una master suite armatoriale, una suite VIP e quattro cabine doppie. Da sogno è la zona pranzo, con pannelli vetrati che consentono di osservare il mare mentre si cena.

Spettacolare e ricco di fascino è il super yacht Spectre di Benetti, la cui silhouette sportiva è stata raggiunta grazie al dinamismo dei volumi e delle proporzioni, ottenendo prestazioni paragonabili a quelle di uno yacht in alluminio. Il design degli esterni è stato realizzato dal designer Giorgio M. Cassetta e la progettazione dello scafo è opera di Mulder Design. Il super yacht Jazz, di 128 metri, progettato dalla compianta archistar Zaha Hadid per Blohm+Voss, presenta una struttura ad esoscheletro consistente in una serie di supporti intrecciati che variano di spessore e conferiscono alla parte superiore una struttura a rete, connotando l’esterno dello yacht di un’estetica naturale; questo esoscheletro crea un’intensa connettività tra i vari ponti e gli elementi del progetto.

Perché come afferma Herbert Aly, CEO e Managing Partner di Blohm+Voss, “La forza del design non sta solo nella sua funzionalità e forma, ma anche nella sua facile adattabilità”.

We shall close with an icon project, whose international nautical design evokes the organic structural systems of marine formations. È probabilmente l’emblema principale di un mondo che è cambiato così rapidamente da lasciare tutti sorpresi e meravigliati, il profilo quasi fantascientifico del quartiere finanziario di Pudong, a Shanghai. La corsa verso le stelle ha trasformato gli anni 2000 in un esercizio di stile, architettura, genio e coraggio, con impiego di idee, soldi e braccia come mai prima di allora. E in tutto questo la Cina, la nuova Cina, non poteva stare a guardare e adesso dieci tra i venti grattacieli più alti del mondo sono nella patria dei nipoti di Mao, che probabilmente non avrebbe mai immaginato che dalla sua Grande rivoluzione culturale proletaria sarebbe nata la potenza economica più grande al mondo.

Ma nonostante la storia sia ormai già scritta nei libri di testo ed anche nei manuali di architettura, arrivare sul Bund di Shanghai è sempre una sorpresa: tra led colorati, fasci di luce e mega schermi svettano le sagome di tre torri, imponenti ed eleganti al tempo stesso, testimoni superbe di un paese che sta cambiando il corso della storia.

A dominare la scena, maestosa ma affatto pesante nella struttura, è la Shanghai Tower, l’ultima arrivata tra i moderni monumenti della megalopoli cinese: 632 metri di altezza, 127 piani, 149 tra ascensori e montacarichi, fondamenta che si spingono per 86 metri nel sottosuolo a dispetto della grande quantità di acqua presente in tutta la zona. Da tre anni è il secondo grattacielo più alto del mondo ma rispetto al Burj Khalifa non ha guglie né si restringe al vertice, anzi, la sua forma spirale costante (un grado per piano) gli consente di compensare la forza del vento, che nelle stagioni in cui i tifosi colpiscono l’Asia si fanno sentire anche a Shanghai.

Un gigante che fa sembrare quasi “normale” il grattacielo dello Shanghai World Financial Center, quello dalla forma più curiosa, tanto da meritarsi il soprannome di “Cavatappi”: 474 metri, emblema della crescita economica del Paese, meta di tu-

It is probably the core symbol of a world that has changed so rapidly as to leave everybody surprised and amazed. The profile of the Pudong financial district in Shanghai is worthy of sci-fi. The race to the stars has turned the 21st century into an expression of style, architecture, genius and courage, exploiting ideas, money and workforce as never before. And China, the new China, could not stand apart and watch the events.

Indeed, today, ten of the twenty tallest skyscrapers in the world are in the hometown of Mao’s offspring. He would probably never have imagined that its great proletariat cultural revolution would generate the world’s largest economic power.

But though history has already been written in textbooks and also in architectural handbooks, stepping into Shanghai’s Bund is always a surprise: the impressive and elegant shapes of three towers stand out among coloured LED lights, light beams and mega screens, the superb witnesses of a country that is transforming the progress of history.

The scene is dominated by the majestic but light structure of the Shanghai Tower, the latest addition to the modern monuments of the Chinese megalopolis: 632 m in height, 127 floors, 149 lifts and elevators, with foundations reaching a depth of 86 m underground, despite the large amount of water present in the entire area. For the past three years it has been the second tallest skyscraper in the world but, compared to the Burj Khalifa, it neither has spires nor a narrow top.

Instead, its constant spiral shape (one degree per floor) compensates for the force of the wind during the Asian typhoon seasons that deeply affect Shanghai.

A giant that makes the skyscraper of the Shanghai World Financial Centre seem almost “normal”, the one with the most curious shape that has been nicknamed “Corkscrew”: 474 m, the symbol of the

risti attratti dal panorama che si gode dai suoi osservatori affacciati sull’infinito, l’ultimo dei quali, trasparente e adatto ai coraggiosi, è proprio sulla sommità.

E poi c’è la Jin Mao Tower, che nonostante i quasi venti anni di vita, rimane per gli esperti e gli amanti dell’architettura contemporanea l’edificio più bello di Shanghai: una pagoda di acciaio e cristallo alta 420 metri, dove stile e simmetria vanno a braccetto e dove a sorprendere è più l’interno che l’esterno, grazie ad un atrio che si innalza dal 56° all’87 ° piano con un effetto ottico unico al mondo.

Una struttura che unisce lo stile alla tecnologia, con un avanzato sistema di trasporto interno verticale che quasi azzera i tempi di attesa degli ascensori e con sistemi di sicurezza e di pulizia delle pareti esterne assolutamente innovativi.

Ma quale dazio hanno dovuto pagare a questa scalata al cielo l’ambiente e Shanghai, che già aveva i noti problemi di inquinamento dell’aria? E qui arriva un’altra sorpresa, perché anche i grattacieli fanno parte del grande progetto della Cina in termini di sostenibilità e riduzione dell’impatto del progresso sul territorio. La Shanghai Tower ad esempio unisce progettazione sostenibile e

Indeed, a hall rises from the 56th to the 87th floor with a unique optical effect. A structure that combines style and technolog y with an advanced system of vertical internal transport to cancel the waiting times of lifts. It also features absolutely innovative safety systems and external wall cleaning systems. But what was the cost of this climb to the sky both in terms of environment and Shanghai, which already had the widely known problems of air pollution? And here we find another surprise because the skyscrapers too are part of China’s great project for sustainability and reduced impact of progress on the

At the top, where the wind is the master, there are wind turbines with vertical axis that generate up to 350,000 kWh a year of electricity. The basement contains a geothermal plant, a system to collect and recycle rainwater, and a combined system for the production of 3.0 MW of heat and electricity.

Nel 2008, il fotografo Ari Seth Cohen ha creato il blog Advanced Style, per raccontare, attraverso i suoi scatti realizzati per le strade di New York, lo stile e l’eleganza di donne e uomini dai capelli d’argento. A quei tempi, quando l’estetica era dominata da un’ideale di bellezza strettamente collegato alla giovinezza, immortalare i look di persone âgée era una scelta coraggiosa e forse un po’ bizzarra. Invece, l’idea di Ari Seth Cohen ha finito per dimostrare come si possa essere alla moda e di tendenza a qualsiasi età. At the time, when aesthetics were ruled by a concept of beauty centred on youthfulness, presenting mature people was a courageous and perhaps somewhat bizarre choice.

Instead, Ari Seth Cohen’s idea underscored the fact that people can be fashionable and trendy at any age. The concept soon became a cult, a trend that was a huge success with everybody. Being over 60 is not considered a limit anymore but a key to success.

Pochi oggetti nella storia del costume hanno conosciuto una parabola di successo come quella degli orologi subacquei, strumenti di altissima precisione che hanno attraversato i decenni perfezionandosi e raggiungendo un pubblico sempre più ampio. Oggi fedeli compagni fuori e dentro l’acqua, la loro nascita è legata ad un nome leggendario nel settore degli orologi sportivi di classe, Rolex che in questo speciale segmento dell’orologeria ha spinto senza compromessi ricerca estrema e audace spirito di avventura.

Uno dei suoi orologi iconici è il Rolex Oyster, il primo orologio subacqueo da polso che, nel 1926, cambia l’industria degli orologi per sempre. La rivoluzione sta tutta nel nome, Oyster (ostrica).

La cassa protegge l’orologio come il guscio del mollusco protegge l’ostrica. Ma il padre di tutti gli orologi subacquei è l’Oyster Perpetual Submariner, invitto in tutte le classifiche dei modelli da immersione più amati. Nasce nel 1953 ed è il primo orologio da polso subacqueo e automatico, capace di resistere fino a 100 metri di profondità.

Negli anni ’50 Rolex conduce una serie di test per un segnatempo subacqueo sperimentale il Deep Sea Special che dieci anni dopo - nella sua terza versione in grado di resistere alle condizioni esterne più estreme - è al centro di un’impresa straordinaria, quella il batiscafo sperimentale Trieste. Guidato dal luogotenente Don Walsh e accompagnato da Jacques Piccard il sommergibile si immerge nella fossa delle Marianne, la depressione più profonda al mondo (Challenger Deep) stabilendo un record nella storia delle immersioni oceaniche in profondità col primato di 10.916 metri. Quando il Trieste riemerge è in perfette condizioni così come il Deep Sea Special che è rimasto attaccato al suo scafo per tutta la durata dell’immersione.

Few things in the story of costume have had a parabola of success like that of underwater watches, high precision instruments that have been perfected over the decades to reach an ever-wider public. Now faithful companions in and out of the water, their development is linked to a legendary name in high class sports watches – Rolex, which has never ceased to inno vate in this special area of watchmaking with no compromises and a bold spirit of adventure.

One of its iconic watches is the Rolex Oyster, the world’s first waterproof wristwatch, which in 1926 changed the watchmaking industry forever. The revolution is there in its name, Oyster. The case protects the mechanism like the shell of the mollusc protects the oyster. But the father of all divers watches is the Oyster Perpetual Submariner, unbeaten by the most popular diver ’s watches in all categories. Launched in 1953, it was the first diver’s automatic wristwatch waterproof to a depth of 100 metres.

In the Fifties, Rolex made a series of prototypes of an experimental underwater timepiece, the Deep Sea Special, which ten years later, in its third version, able to withstand the most extreme external conditions, was at the centre of an extraordinary adventure, that of the experimental bathyscaphe Trieste. Piloted by US Navy Lieutenant Don Walsh together with Jacques Piccard, the submersible descended to the deepest point on earth, the Challenger Deep in the Mariana Trench, setting a record of 10,916 metres for deep ocean dives.

When the Trieste re-emerged, it was undamaged, as was the Deep Sea Special, which had been strapped to the outside of the hull for the entire duration of the dive.

Un orologio creato per soddisfare le richieste espresse dai subacquei professionisti, che nella versione del 1978 (impermeabile fino 1.220 metri) arriva a dotare la cassa di una valvola a rilascio di elio affinché, durante le lunghe fasi di decompressione nella cassa iperbarica, l’elio delle miscele gassose utilizzate possa essere espulso senza alcun rischio per l’orologio. Da quel momento la Casa della Corona ha continuato a migliorare la resistenza alla pressione dei propri orologi, fino a ridurre il rischio di penetrazione dell’acqua a una profondità di 3.900 metri, nel 2018, quando lancia il nuovo Deepsea capace di tale straordinaria performance.

From them on, Rolex continued to improve the resistance to pressure of its watches, reducing the risk of water penetration to a depth of 3,900 metres with the new Deepsea, unveiled in 2018.

The intricate three-piece case architecture features a highly resistant nitrogen-alloyed stainless steel support ring. Placed inside the middle case made of 904L stainless steel superalloy, it supports a 14.3mm thick domed sapphire crystal made of high-purity aluminium oxide, and a 5.3mm screw-down back case in grade 5 titanium.

How did you develop a passion for high jewelry?

Prima di lavorare in questo settore ero un albergatore e vivevo a Guernsey, un'isola inglese. Ero appassionato di moda, amavo gli abiti di alta moda e rimanevo affascinato dalle donne elegantissime che frequentavano il mio hotel.

Fu quasi naturale lanciarmi in un’avventura nel modo creativo. Ho scelto i gioielli perché rappresentano eleganza e valore, senza soccombere alla velocità a cui viaggia il mondo della moda. Mi piace pensare che i gioielli non siano dei prodotti di moda, ma dei prodotti di stile.

Before working in this field, I was a hotel owner and I lived in Guernsey, a British island. I was passionate about fashion, I loved haute-couture clothing and I was fascinated by the very elegant women who frequented my hotel. So it was only natural to want to venture into a creative territory. I opted for jewelry because it represents elegance and value, without moving at the breakneck speed of the fashion industry. I enjoy thinking that jewelry is not a fashion product, but a product of style.

Naturally unconventional. In what way do you recognize yourself in your jewelry?

Anticonformista per natura. In cosa si riconosce nei suoi gioielli?

Exactly in the fact that it is not recognizable! My mission is that of offering every woman the opportunity to choose her own piece of jewelry, which must be different from that of others. I celebrate diversity, not standardization. That is why the ruby, the hidden signature of my every creation, is the only visual anchor that connects all our jewelry together.

What are your favorite materials?

Quali sono i suoi materiali prediletti?

Mi piace sperimentare, è un modo per crescere.

Ma le mie preferenze sono solide e rimangono l’oro 18 carati come metallo e il diamante, che è un simbolo troppo potente per non conquistarmi.

Però il mio preferito non è un diamante qualsiasi, nel 2003 abbiamo lanciato il diamante Cento, tagliato in 100 sfaccettature diverse invece delle solite 57/58. Rappresenta la perfezione e la sua luce è incomparabile, come un caleidoscopio.

I enjoy experimenting with a range of materials, as a way to grow professionally. But I have some solid preferences, which are 18-carat gold and the diamond, which is too powerful a symbol to resist. My favorite diamond, however, is not just any diamond: in 2003, we launched the Cento diamond, cut into 100 different facets, instead of the usual 57/58. It represents perfection and its sparkle is matchless, like a kaleidoscope.

What is Roberto Coin’s iconic piece of jewelry?

The first one I created is the first that comes to my mind when I am asked this question. It is the Appassionata collection. I wanted to create a piece of jewelry as sinuous as a golden fabric and it took me two years to achieve the perfect result. It was the year 1996 and Appassionata was my first collection with the hidden ruby. We still sell it and, last year, I happened to run into it by chance in the window of an antique dealer in Hong Kong: there was an Appassionata bracelet on display. I saw it as a great recognition of my work: I had created not only a piece of jewelry, but a piece of art.

Il primo che creai rimane quello che mi viene in mente quando mi fanno questa domanda. Si tratta della collezione Appassionata. Volevo creare un gioiello sinuoso come un tessuto dorato e ci misi ben due anni per raggiungere il risultato perfetto.

Era il 1996 e Appassionata fu anche la prima collezione che firmai con il rubino nascosto. La vendiamo ancora oggi e l’anno scorso mi sono imbattuto per puro caso nella vetrina di un antiquario di arte ad Hong Kong e ho visto un bracciale di Appassionata esposto. Per me è stato un grandissimo riconoscimento: avevo creato non solo un gioiello ma un pezzo di arte.

Undoubtedly, the Animalier line. I have been creating jewelry since the eighties and every year we develop at least one new piece of jewelry. The atelier has become an enchanted zoo populated with animals inspired by fairy tales, Oriental legends…these creations are very communicative and popular all over the world.

Senza dubbio la linea Animalier. Creo animali gioiello sin dagli anni ’80 e ogni anno ne sviluppiamo almeno uno di nuovo. L’atelier è diventato uno zoo incantato che negli anni si è popolato anche di animali ispirati al mondo delle fiabe, delle leggende orientali… queste creazioni sono fortemente comunicative e amate in tutto il mondo.

Please tell us something more about the ruby.

My signature ruby was inspired by my love of ancient legends. I once read the story of the three ruby legends, in which this precious stone represents a very powerful amulet, if it comes into contact with the skin. It is my personal wish of good luck.

Ci racconti qualcosa in più del rubino.

La firma del rubino viene dal mio amore per le leggende antiche. In uno dei miei libri mi sono imbattuto nelle tre leggende del rubino, in cui questa pietra preziosa rappresentava un portafortuna potentissimo, se messo a contatto con la pelle.

Da allora decisi di mettere un rubino in ogni mio gioiello, posizionato in un punto interno, per consentirne il contatto con la pelle. È il mio personale messaggio di buon augurio.

Many movie and music stars wear our jewelry. My favorite celebrity is Oprah Winfrey, because she is an icon of freedom.

What do you draw inspiration from for your new collections?

Come riesce a coniugare artigianalità e le oltre 1.000 boutique distribuite in tutto il mondo dove si possono trovare le sue creazioni?

Ours is a small, big company. We have artisans working every day and dealing with the departments in charge of innovation, so there is daily dialogue between them and technolog y mingles with tradition, enhancing it rather than replacing it . A successful balance, if constantly fueled .

La nostra è una piccola grande azienda. Abbiamo gli artigiani che lavorano tutti i giorni e si confrontano con i dipartimenti che si occupano di innovazione, così si crea un dialogo quotidiano e la tecnologia riesce a mescolarsi con la tradizione, esaltandola invece di sostituirla.

Quando nel 2006 l’ex vicepresidente degli Stati Uniti d’America, Al Gore, realizzò il documentario An Inconvenient Truth (Una scomoda verità) sul riscaldamento globale, vincitore dell’Oscar l’anno successivo, non furono poche le critiche che gli furono mosse per le tesi catastrofiche esposte. Ma in oltre un decennio ci siamo resi conto in modo, a volte, anche drammaticamente reale delle conseguenze del cambiamento climatico, negli Usa, soprattutto nel SudEst asiatico, ma anche in Europa, i cui effetti, hanno colpito e colpiranno sempre di più le città.

Sono infatti le città il cuore della sfida climatica del futuro, in tutto il mondo. E’ nelle aree urbane che si produce la quota più rilevante di emissioni ed è qui che l’intensità e la frequenza di fenomeni meteorologici estremi rischia di determinare sempre più danni crescenti, alle persone e alle infrastrutture. Per queste ragioni, non solo grandi capitali globali come Londra, Parigi e Sydney, ma anche polarità europee di alto prestigio come Copenaghen, Rotterdam ed Amsterdam, per il loro rapp sorto genetico con l’acqua, hanno deciso, già da anni, di rigenerare le proprie politiche urbanistiche orientandole alla sostenibilità per una connessione sentimentale con la natura.

L’architettura contemporanea, perciò, diventa una estensione della natura, in una relazione pacifica e non antitetica.

Tra le sfide abitative d’avanguardia ci sono le floating homes, ossia case galleggianti come barche. Nel prossimo futuro non è escluso che questa tipologia costruttiva possa diventare una scelta quasi obbligata per quei territori – si pensi a Venezia – che potrebbero finire, letteralmente e fisicamente, sott’acqua.

When in 2006 former US Vice-President Al Gore made the documentary An Inconvenient Truth on global warming, which won an Oscar the following year, not a few criticisms were raised against him for the catastrophic theories put forward.

However, in over a decade, sometimes in a dramatically real way, we have come to understand, the consequences of climate change in the USA, and especially in South East Asia, but also in Europe, where it has affected, and will increasingly affect, cities.

Indeed, cities all around the world are at the heart of the challenges posed by climate change. It is in urban areas that the highest levels of emissions are produced, and where the intensity and frequency of extreme weather conditions risk causing ever-greater damage to people and infrastructures. This is why not only great world capitals such as London, Paris and Sydney, but also European cities such as Copenhagen, Rotterdam and Amsterdam, due to their genetic relationship with water, have for years now decided to renew their urban planning policies, steering them towards sustainability for an emotional connection with nature.

Modern architecture therefore becomes an extension of nature, in a peaceful, ethical relationship.

Among the cutting-edge housing challenges are the f loating homes. It cannot be ruled out that in the near future this type of construction may become an almost obligatory choice for those areas – one thinks of Venice – which could literally and physically end up under water.

Per una esaustiva risposta, ci affidiamo all’esperienza della società olandese “Dura Vermeer”, coordinatrice del progetto europeo “Floatec”, il cui obiettivo è quello di sviluppare abitazioni capaci di resistere alle inondazioni. Il gruppo olandese ha sviluppato un sistema che prevede l’impiego del polistirene espanso sinterizzato (EPS).

Questo polistirolo modificato, molto leggero come materiale, è inserito in un multistrato tra le falde di composito e cemento creando moduli che possono essere facilmente assemblati in una struttura di sostegno sufficientemente grande, al pari dei blocchi di costruzione, su cui viene gettato successivamente il calcestruzzo. Su queste “boe”, poi, viene sistemato il volume architettonico, costruito, con modalità prefabbricata, in legno. Con questo materiale che viene sempre preferito non solo per la sua leggerezza e flessibilità, ma anche per le sue intrinseche proprietà fisiche-meccaniche che lo predispongono naturalmente a garantire il massimo comfort energetico domestico.

WATERNEST 100 Un modello di casa galleggiante a basso impatto ambientale è rappresentato dal Waternest 100, che porta proprio la firma di un’équipe italiana, il Giancarlo Zema Design Group, studio di architettura nato a Roma nel 2001, specializzato in strutture innovative, le cui principali caratteristiche sono le linee morbide che richiamano le forme biomorfe.

“Waternest 100” è un vero e proprio villaggio di case galleggianti sospeso sulle acque del Tamigi e ciascun involucro abitativo presenta, difatti, una forma tondeggiante con un diametro di 12 metri e un’altezza di 4 metri, per un totale di 100 mq. Si alimenta energeticamente grazie ai 60 mq di pannelli solari posti sul tetto ed è realizzata esclusivamente in legno lamellare e alluminio, materiali riciclati e riciclabili fino al 98%.

L’ESPERIENZA DI MARIO CUCINELLA IN ITALIA Una delle voci italiane più rappresentative della architettura sostenibile è Mario Cucinella. How are these “houseboats” built?

For a comprehensive answer, we turn to the experience of Dutch company “Dura Vermeer ”, coordinators of the European “Floatec” project, which aims to develop homes able to resist f loods. The Dutch group has developed a system which entails the use of expanded polystyrene ( EPS). The modified polystyrene is inserted in multiple layers in between stratums of composite and concrete and divided into beam-like modules that can easily be assembled into a bigger supporting structure ‘a bit like building blocks’. The modules are arranged in a f loating grid into which the concrete is cast.

The prefabricated building, in wood, is then assembled on these “buoys”.

This material is always preferred not only for its lightness and f lexibility, but also for its intrinsic physical-mechanical properties that make it naturally predisposed to ensure maximum comfort and domestic energ y savings.

WATERNEST 100 Waternest 100 is a low environmental impact f loating house designed by the Italian Giancarlo Zema Design Group, the architectural firm founded in Rome in 2001 and specialising in innovative buildings whose main features are soft lines that recall biomorphic forms. “ Waternest 100” is a village of f loating houses on the waters of the Thames, with each rounded 12m diameter, 4m wide 100 sq.m. residential unit made entirely of recycled laminated timber and aluminium, materials recyclable up to as much as 98%.

MARIO CUCINELLA’S EXPERIENCE IN ITALY One of the Italian voices most representative of sustainable architecture is Mario Cucinella. Tipo le abitazioni delle zone calde del mondo che, per non surriscaldarsi, sono bianche, scavate anche nel sottosuolo, magari con gallerie del vento oppure con rivoli d’acqua. Tra le sue realizzazioni ricordiamo il Sino Italian Ecological Building a Pechino, la nuova sede del Comune di Bologna, la Torre Unipol realizzata nel quartiere Porta Nuova di Milano che negli ultimi anni è stato teatro della ventata architettonica più innovativa del Paese.

Sempre a Milano, ma nella periferia sud-ovest, il progetto di rigenerazione urbana SeiMilano: 500 appartamenti a basso impatto ambientale, inseriti in un contesto che favorisce il benessere fisico e mentale delle persone che vi risiederanno – e pensato come luogo in cui nasceranno delle “community” contemporanee: per favorire questo processo di aggregazione e integrazione, verranno installate infrastrutture tecnologiche d’avanguardia, come WiFi pubblico e molte strutture di servizio, fra le quali percorsi ciclopedonali, aree fitness con percorsi vita per il wellness.

IL BOSCO VERTICALE NEL CUORE DI MILANO Il quartiere Porta Nuova di Milano accoglie anche un altro iconico edificio, simbolo della rinascita verde delle città italiane.

Si chiama Bosco Verticale ed è firmato da Stefano Boeri: due grattacieli tappezzati da 11 mila piante rampicanti e 5 mila arbusti, nati per rispondere a una necessità contemporanea: vivere in un contesto ecosostenibile senza rinunciare a comfort, centralità e sicurezza. Il fogliame infatti ha il ruolo fondamentale di filtrare l’aria dai gas e lo smog cittadino, rendendo l’aria più salubre, e abbassa gli effetti negativi del buco dell’ozono. Inoltre, le piante rappresentano un ottimo deterrente contro l’inquinamento acustico urbano.

TH E VERTICAL FOREST IN TH E H EART OF M I LAN Milan’s Porta Nuova district also houses another iconic building, a symbol of the greening of Italian cities. Called the Vertical Forest, it was designed by Stefano Boeri.

Two residential towers hosting 11 thousand climbing plants and 5 thousand shrubs, designed to respond to a modern need – to live in an eco -sustainable context without foregoing comfort, centrality and safety. The vegetation plays a fundamental role in filtering gas and city smog from the air, making it more salubrious, and reducing the negative ef fects of the hole in the ozone layer. Furthermore, the plants are an excellent protection against urban acoustic pollution .

LE RISPOSTE DELL’ARCHITET TURA CINETICA Il progetto più innovativo del momento sembra essere la Dynamic Tower dell’architetto italo israeliano David Fischer. L’edificio, un grattacielo girevole di 80 piani per 420 metri di altezza, è in via di realizzazione a Dubai e dovrebbe essere concluso entro il 2020. Noto anche come Torre da Vinci, ha piani che si muovono indipendentemente l’uno dall’altro e la sua dinamicità lo renderà capace di ruotare su se stesso di 360° in soli 90 minuti. L’energia necessaria alla rotazione e sufficiente ad alimentare i 200 appartamenti, di diversa metratura, viene prodotta per mezzo delle 8 turbine eoliche disposte in ogni interpiano. Altre 40 turbine, insieme ai pannelli solari disposti sul tetto contribuiranno alla produzione di un surplus di energia, la quale potrà essere rivenduta, costituendo di fatti un esempio di ecosostenibilità. Il ricorso alle energie rinnovabili sono sicuramente un punto vincente per la torre rotante di Dubai. Secondo le stime, il grattacielo potrà produrre in un anno 190 milioni di Kilowatt di energia, per un guadagno di 7 milioni di euro.

THE ANSWERS OF KINETIC ARCHITECTURE The most innovative project of the moment seems to be the Dynamic Tower by Italian-Israeli architect David Fischer. The building, a 420-metre-tall, 80 f loor rotating skyscraper, is under construction in Dubai, and should be completed by 2020. Known also as the Da Vinci Tower, each f loor is designed to ro tate individually, with a full 360° rotation taking about 90 minutes.

Sufficient energ y needed for ro tation and to power the 200 appartments of various sizes will be produced by 8 wind turbines sandwiched between the f loors. A further 40 turbines, along with solar panels covering the roof, will contribute to generating excess energ y which could be sold, constituting an example of eco -sustainability.

The use of sustainable energ y is without doubt a winning card for the Dubai rotating tower. According to estimates, the skyscraper could generate 190 million kilowatts of energ y every year worth 7 million euro.

Per qualcuno è la Toscana della California ma a reggere è solo il binomio vino-architettura perché il resto è decisamente diverso: clima, natura e morfologia del territorio della Napa Valley hanno infatti pochi punti in comune con il Chianti o la costa di Bolgheri e quindi più che similitudini si possono fare raffronti.

Ma non è il paragone tra un Brunello nato a Montalcino e un Pinot lavorato sotto il sole della California che ci accompagna nel tour lungo la verde valle che si sviluppa a poco più di un’ora di auto da San Francisco, a sua volta probabilmente la più europea tra le grandi città statunitensi.

Quello che fa della Napa Valley la nuova frontiera del West è infatti l’architettura delle cantine che, negli ultimi decenni, hanno trasformato un angolo ancora isolato degli States in una meta imperdibile per i turisti, anche per quelli astemi.

Il fiorire delle winery nella Napa Valley e nella vicina Sonoma Valley ha portato ad una serie di interventi su vecchie strutture già esistenti o a vere e proprie costruzioni ex novo che hanno portato alla nascita di vere e proprie cattedrali del vino.

La degustazione del vino diventa così solo l’ultimo momento di una esperienza multi sensoriale che inizia già con il raggiungimento delle cantine percorrendo le strade che partono verso nord come raggi di sole dalla San Pablo Bay: laghi, colline verdi e ocra e vigne a perdita d’occhio già prima di arrivare a Napa.

Proprio nei dintorni di Napa, a Yountville, c’è l’esempio più noto e studiato di questa nuova accoppiata tra vino e architettura, la Dominus Estate, un edificio progettato dallo studio svizzero Herzog & de Meuron per la famiglia Moueix, fondatrice dell’azienda vinicola nata in un luogo dove le vigne sono arrivate nel 1836.

Someone sees it as California’s answer to Tuscany, as Tuscany and Napa Valley are both known for their amazing designer wineries, but the comparison stops here, since Napa Valley and the Chianti countryside or the Bolgheri Coast have nothing in common when it comes to climate, nature and geomorpholog y.

However, the comparison between a Brunello wine produced in Montalcino and a Pinot born under the Californian sun is the last thing on our mind as we tour through the green valley about a one-hour drive from San Francisco, America’s most European city. What now makes Napa Valley the new American frontier is the high design of its wineries which, in the past few decades, have transformed a secluded corner of the States into a great tourist destination, even for non-drinkers.

The f lourishing of wineries in the Napa Valley and nearby Sonoma Valley led to renovation projects on old, existing structures, as well as to the construction of new buildings, veritable modern-age cathedrals of winemaking.

And so, wine tasting is only the final phase of a multisensory experience which begins the moment you hit the roads radiating, like sun rays, from the San Pablo Bay: lakes, green and ochre hills and vineyards as far as the eye can see long before you reach Napa.

Located in Yountville, in Napa County, is one of the best-known and most studied examples of this new winemaking - architecture marriage, the Dominus Estate, a building designed by the Swiss Herzog & de Meuron firm for the Moueix family, the founders of the winery based in an area where the first vineyards were planted in 1836. forma a parallelepipedo monumentale, lungo 135 metri, alto 8 e largo 24 che funge quasi da monumento contro lo sfondo dei monti Mayacamas. Eppure gli oltre 4.000 metri quadrati di struttura non impattano sull’ambiente, ma lo completano, grazie alla scelta fatta dallo studio di architettura di prendere spunto dalle costruzioni rurali in pietra tipiche del luogo. Per realizzarla è stato usato un sistema di gabbie con rete d’acciaio riempite di pietre basaltiche irregolari e raccolte dal vicino American Canyon: la luce filtra tra le rocce e la vista sulle vigne è assicurata dai due varchi di ingresso, soprattutto quello in asse con il percorso lineare che attraversa tutto il vigneto. Due i livelli sfruttati: allo zero la sala con le cisterne cromate per la prima fase della fermentazione del vino, la cantina per i visitatori con le file dei barili in quercia francese, la sala di degustazione e i magazzini; al livello superiore invece i servizi e gli uffici con i balconi.

naio egregiamente ristrutturato ma in realtà straordinario esempio di equilibrio tra un antico simbolo country e un moderno spazio espositivo e produttivo. Uxus Design ha giocato tra il legno della struttura originaria e il rustico delle cantine sotterranee, che sono il vero valore di Merus: lì sono le botti laccate, usate anche come elementi decorativi, lì è la sala degustazione, ultima tappa di un percorso tra sapori e colori, che si rifanno al pluripremiato Cabernet sauvigno, fiore all’occhiello della casa.

Il legno è l’assoluto protagonista anche nella vicina Joseph Phelps Wineyards, oltre 45 anni di storia e una cantina che ricorda molto le vecchie distillerie di whisky ritratte nelle pellicole americane anni ’50:

Uxus Design played on the contrast between the original structure’s wood and the rustic underground cellars, which are Merus’s real value: the cellars house the wine barrels with a high-polished finish, used also as decorative elements, and the wine tasting room, the last stop of a journey through f lavors and colors, to taste the multi-awarded Cabernet Sauvignon wine, the winery’s signature label.

Wood is also the star of the nearby Joseph Phelps Vineyards, with over 45 years of history and a winery which looks very much like old whisky distilleries in American movies of the fifties: 150 hectares of vineyards

On the upper f loor, an oval room with leather sofas and huge wine barrels for tasting, whereas the fermentation barrels are kept in a more well-sheltered place.

Artesa opted for a more extravagant design by building its winery in a sort of bunker evocative of steep Maya stairs, set into a high hill at the foothills of the Carneros Mountains, amidst artificial basins, spurting fountains and contempo rary art sculptures.

Last but not least, the real point of contact between Tuscany and California, although artificial: the Castello di Amorosa, a medieval-inspired oasis in the heart of the Golden State. “ The charm of Italy, the taste of wine”, is the slogan of this winery that dominates the Calistoga countryside: 107 rooms and 8,000 tons of hand-cut stones to replicate a Tuscan village. L’ultimo modello dello Swan 65 della finlandese (ma di proprietà italiana, di Leonardo Ferragamo) Nautor è un upgrade di un’imbarcazione simbolo nel mondo delle barche a vela, già dalla sua prima apparizione nel 1972 a Sparkman & Stephens: Germàn Frers ha ideato le nuove linee di una gamma che ha quattro modelli tra 54 e 78 piedi. Questo è un 20,11 metri con chiglia telescopica, cabina armatoriale a prua e randa avvolgibile nel boma ma in realtà tutto è personalizzabile. L’eleganza tipica del modello non viene meno, anzi, viene aumentata e integrata con prestazioni eccellenti durante la navigazione.

L’elettrico è il presente e sarà il futuro dell’auto, almeno a giudicare dal trend degli ultimi anni. E se nel mondo dell’elettrico sbarca anche la Ferrari significa che questa è più una realtà che una previsione.

La SF90 è il primo vero passo della casa di Maranello nel mondo dell’ibrido dopo LaFerrari in edizione limitata, e come ogni debutto le aspettative sono molte. Trattandosi di un top di gamma niente è stato lasciato al caso: il sistema è un vero ibrido plug-in, con ricarica alla spina; l’autonomia in modalità totalmente elettrica è limitata a 25 chilometri con una velocità di 135 km/ h, ma si tratta di una novità assoluta importante per chi magari abita nei centri urbani e vuol evitare restrizioni o rumori. È una Sardegna vista con gli occhi di una donna all’indomani della Seconda Guerra Mondiale quella raccontata da Michela Murgia nel suo “Accabadora”, il romanzo che è valso alla scrittrice il premio Campiello del 2010. Nonostante siano passati dieci anni dall’uscita del libro il testo rimane assolutamente godibile, intenso, testimone di un’isola che è sì cambiata ma ha mantenuto anche la sua musicalità nella lingua, la sua durezza nei paesaggi dell’interno, la drammaticità del trasferimento nel “Continente” per lavorare e cercare un futuro più sicuro. La storia è quella di un rapporto tra madre e figlia che nasce con una sorta di adozione ma che poi prosegue con amore, affetto e coinvolgimento, anche se intorno alla figura di una delle protagoniste si crea un alone di mistero che verrà svelato pagina dopo pagina. Quindi niente mare limpido, niente ambientazioni mondane ma il volto autentico di una Sardegna conosciuta molto bene dai suoi abitanti e poco da chi guarda all’isola con occhi distaccati o vacanzieri, in poco più di 150 pagine che assicurano una lettura coinvolgente ed emozionante.

Hence, we neither find the clear blue sea nor mundane settings but the genuine face of a Sardinia that is well known to its inhabitants and little known to those who look at the island with detached eyes, or with the eyes of holidaymakers. Little more than 150 pages ensure an absorbing reading experience charged with feelings.

La battaglia per la definitiva affermazione del concetto di Km0 va avanti ormai da tempo ma pare proprio che l’estate 2019 sia quella della definitiva consacrazione del prodotto del territorio. Km0 e sostenibilità vanno infatti di pari passo e pochi termini sono usati oggi nel mondo come quello che richiama attenzione all’ambiente e alla buone pratiche. Anche in cucina. E’ così sulle tavole estive di case e ristoranti bando agli sprechi alimentari, massima attenzione a ridurre i rifiuti e lista della spesa incentrata su prodotti locali: ovviamente la parte del leone è per frutta, verdura e carne, con un occhio alla linea e l’altro alla provenienza. A beneficiarne è senz’altro il gusto, anche perché spesso Km0 significa genuinità e sapore. Quindi prodotti di filiera corta tanto nei negozi quanto nei mercatini. Pane carasau, ortofrutta e dolci sono il classico in un paniere sardo ma non solo: anche marmellate e carne non mancano e sono realizzati in Sardegna con la frutta del luogo anche i prodotti per il bagno che si trovano in alcuni hotel della Costa Smeralda.

Grapes of gold.

Il Vermentino è un vitigno ricco di colore e di estratto tipico della costa tirrenica, che in Sardegna, in particolare in Gallura trova una delle sue massime espressioni. Questo vitigno è stato importato dalla Spagna alla fine del Trecento, durante la dominazione degli Aragonesi, passando prima dalla Corsica. Il vino che se ne ricava è un bianco di grande freschezza, complessità e sapidità, capace di prestazioni maiuscole e di grande aderenza al territorio, ben si abbina a piatti di pesce. Il Vign’angena 2017 di Capichera è un vino vibrante e di volume, con un magistrale equilibrio di struttura e un finale lungo e persistente. Pieno e avvolgente il Roccaìa 2015 prodotto dalla cantina Masone Mannu, un vino sapido e speziato con una vibrante freschezza, dalla grande capacità di invecchiamento. Il Bèru 2015 della cantina Siddùra è un vino di corpo e volume, levigati da una freschezza iodata e minerale che lascia in secondo piano le rotondità. Vino brioso con un incedere fresco, sapido e minerale, e un finale di mandola verde è lo Stellato 2017 della cantina Pala. Ambat 2017, una delle quattro nuove etichette di Sella & Mosca, nate dalla collaborazione tra la famiglia Moretti e lo stilista Antonio Marras, regala volume e leggiadria, e un bel finale croccante, sapido e marino di grande intensità e freschezza.

Vermentino is a richly-coloured grape variety widely planted on the Tyrrhenian coast, and which finds one of its purest expressions in Sardinia, particularly in Gallura. This variety was imported from Spain by way of Corsica in the late 1300s during the rule of the Aragonese. The wine made from this grape is a white with great freshness, complexity and minerality, capable of great performance and well reflecting its territory of origin. It pairs well with seafood and fish. Capichera’s Vign’angena 2017 is a vibrant wine with good body, a masterly balanced structure and a long, persistent finish. Full and enveloping, Roccaìa 2015, produced by the Masone Mannu winery, is a mineral, spicy wine with a lively freshness and great ageing potential. Bèru 2015 from the Siddùra winery is a full bodied wine enlivened by fresh iodine and mineral notes.

A lively wine with a fresh, sapid, mineral gait and a green almond finish is Stellato 2017 from the Pala winery. Ambat 2017, one of Sella & Mosca’s four new labels and the result of cooperation between the Moretti family and designer Antonio Marras, is full-bodied and graceful with a good crisp finish with intense, fresh mineral and marine notes.

Guardians of Sardinia.

Uno dei ventotto guerrieri di pietra lo hanno chiamato Sisinnio. Un omaggio a Sisinnio Poddi, il contadino che arando i suoi campi a Mont’e Prama, la Collina della Palma — a Cabras, Oristano —, nel 1974 scoprì il primo dei 5.178 frammenti che sarebbero venuti alla luce con le successive campagne di scavi, durate fino a tutto il 1979. I pezzi di ventotto statue in pietra locale ribattezzati i giganti di Mont’e Prama per la loro stazza fisica. I guerrieri, o giganti — visto che sfiorano il metro e novanta d’altezza —, sono ancora adesso un gruppo di statue straordinarie e misteriose. Rappresentano 16 pugilatori, 5 arcieri e 5 guerrieri. L’epoca oscilla tra il XII e l’VIII secolo avanti Cristo. Solo alcune statue della Grecia e dell’Antico Egitto possono vantare una datazione precedente nel bacino del Mediterraneo. Si tratta di esemplari che rappresentano esclusivamente figure maschili. Sono considerati i guardiani della Sardegna. Vederli dal vivo è un’esperienza unica e indescrivibile! Al Civico Museo Archeologico di Cabras a Oristano, orari estivi: lunedì-sabato 9-13, 16-20, domenica 9-13, 15-20.

They named one of the twenty-eight stone warriors Sisinnio. A tribute to Sisinnio Poddi, the farmer who, while ploughing his fields in Mont’e Prama, (the Hill of Palm Trees) in Cabras, Oristano in 1974, discovered the first of the 5,178 fragments which would come to light during subsequent excavation campaigns lasting until the end of 1979. The pieces were of twenty-eight sculptures in local stone, christened the giants of Mont’e Prama for their physical size. The warriors, or giants – seeing that they are about 1.90m in height – are still an extraordinary and mysterious group of statues. They represent 16 boxers, 5 archers and 5 warriors. The era fluctuates between the XII and the VIII century B.C. In the Mediterranean basin, only some statues from Greece and Ancient Egypt can boast an earlier dating. The examples depict exclusively male figures, and are considered the guardians of Sardinia.

Federico Faggin, physicist and entrepreneur, inventor of the microchip and the touchscreen.

Federico Faggin, fisico e imprenditore quasi sconosciuto in Italia, è l’idolo di scienziati e appassionati di tecnologia di tutto il mondo. Vicentino, si trasferisce nel 1968 nella Silicon Valley, dove tra gli anni ’70 e ‘80 inventa dispositivi che hanno contribuito a plasmare il presente. Realizza il primo microprocessore, un computer con un briciolo d’intelligenza, piccolo, a buon mercato, che consuma poco ed è affidabile. Si apre un’autostrada: quell’oggetto è la matrice dei nostri telefonini e della chiavetta USB che teniamo in tasca. Negli anni ’80 inventa il touchpad e il touchstcreen. Apre altre start up, il successo economico gli sorride ma Faggin - come racconta nell’autobiografia appena uscita, dal titolo Silicio e edita da Mondadori - si sente più insoddisfatto di quando aveva iniziato. Ha contribuito a creare macchine che, secondo l’opinione comune, prima o poi faranno meglio dell’uomo.

Ma è proprio vero? Iniziano a farsi largo domande che aveva sempre evitato di approfondire preso dai suoi impegni: qual è il senso della vita? e che cosa voglio, io, dalla mia? Sono questi dilemmi, insieme con gli studi di un computer cognitivo, che portano Faggin alla sua ultima intuizione: “Mi chiesi per la prima volta cosa fosse la coscienza. Nessuno ne parlava”.

Allora molla tutto e inizia a fare ricerche in questa direzione e a finanziarne altre con una fondazione creata da lui e dalla moglie, la Federico & Elvia Faggin Foundation. Oggi nelle sue conferenze che tiene in giro per il mondo sostiene che le macchine non potranno mai essere meglio di noi perché non hanno e non avranno mai una coscienza, convinto che fra 10 o 20 anni le sue teorie possano diventare l’idea prevalente.

Almost unknown in Italy, physicist and entrepreneur Federico Faggin is the idol of scientists and technolog y buffs the world over. Born in Vicenza, he moved to Silicon Valley in 1968, where between the 70s and 80s, he designed devices that have contributed to shaping the present. He designed the first microprocessor, a computer with a grain of intelligence, small and cheap that consumed little and was reliable. This opened a virtual highway – that object is the matrix of our cell phones and the USB flash drive we keep in our pocket. In the 80s, he pioneered the touchpad and the touchscreen. He created other start- ups and fortune smiled on him, but as he recounts in his autobiography Silicio, published by Mondadori, Faggin felt more dissatisfied than when he had started out. He contributed to creating machines which, according to common opinion, will sooner or later perform better than man. But is it really true? Questions began to arise that he had always been too busy to examine closely: What is the meaning of life? and What do I want from mine? It was these dilemmas, together with the study of cognitive computing that led Faggin to his latest insight. “For the first time, I asked myself what conscience is. Nobody talked about it”. So he left everything and began to carry out research in this direction and finance others with a foundation created with his wife, the Federico & Elvia Faggin Foundation. Today, at the conferences he holds around the world, he maintains that machines can never be better than us because they do not and will never have a conscience, and is convinced that in 10 to 20 years’ time his theories will become the prevailing idea.
