This vision now also takes shape in a refned furniture collection, Michele Bönan Interiors, designed with his son Sky and crafted by master artisans who transformed his vision into unique pieces. Framing it all is the Torrigiani Garden’s beautiful lemon house in Florence: a secret and romantic place, dotted with boxwood hedges, neoclassical temples and a Balinese gate that separates the outside world from the one imagined by the designer. Like Bönan’s projects − after Saint-Tropez, Monte Carlo, and Geneva − the collection continues its journey, choosing as its new stop Forte dei Marmi and the charming winter garden of Casa Bracchi, thus, continuing a story of timeless elegance that speaks to the present with style.

Let’s start from Florence. What has it meant, in your creative journey, to belong to this city?

Florence is essential to me. It’s not just the city where I studied, started my frm and my family. Florence is a forge of creativity and craftsmanship that I consider indispensable. A heritage of skills and cultures capable of achieving what most people now deem impossible.

One of your most important collaborations, with the Ferragamo family, was born in Florence.

Leonardo and I felt immediately in sync. We shared the idea of beauty that is never an end in itself, but experiential and in the service of unparalleled hospitality, and by building upon this, we embarked on a magnifcent journey together.

Part of this journey with the Lungarno Collection hotel group is also the incredible Portrait Milano project, which reopened a historic site, the 16th-century former Archbishop’s Seminary, whose courtyard is now a new square for the city. When dealing with such important legacies,

Cominciamo da Firenze. Cosa ha signifcato, nel suo percorso creativo, appartenere a questa città?

Firenze per me è fondamentale. Non è solo la città dove ho conseguito i miei studi, aperto il mio studio e creato la mia famiglia. Firenze è una fucina di creatività e di artigianalità per me imprescindibile. Un patrimonio di competenze e culture capace di realizzare ciò che i più ormai ritengono impossibile.

A Firenze è nata una delle sue più importanti collaborazioni, quella con la famiglia Ferragamo.

Con Leonardo è nata subito una bellissima sintonia. Sull’idea condivisa di una bellezza mai fne a sé stessa, ma esperienziale, a servizio di un’accoglienza impareggiabile, abbiamo costruito un magnifco percorso insieme.

Di questo percorso con il gruppo alberghiero Lungarno Collection fa parte anche l’incredibile progetto del Portrait Milano, che ha riaperto un luogo storico, il cinquecentesco ex Seminario Arcivescovile, la cui corte è oggi una nuova piazza per la città.

the goal is an accurate recomposition and updating of a memory: bringing the place’s roots back to life while remaining faithful to the genius loci and to oneself.

Other prestigious projects in the world of hospitality?

In Milan again, Casa Cipriani, as well as the new J.K. Place on Via Borgospesso, opening soon, the result of another beautiful synergy with Ori Kafri, which is also giving birth to Casa J.K. Place Roma. Each project for me is like a new flm in which I’m both screenwriter and director: every time a different story, with unique characters and atmospheres, but with a common thread that is the passion for detail, and in what is more than just styleit’s a vision. Something that goes beyond aesthetics and expresses a precise way of inhabiting space.

A vision that has also translated into a collection you designed, Michele Bönan Interiors

It all started with an idea from my son Sky, who now works with me on this new chapter. In order to house the collection, we purchased this extraordinary space surrounded by fve hectares of greenery, within the beautiful Torrigiani Garden.

What are the iconic pieces?

The fascinating aspect of this collection is that it brings together years of work without

Restando a Milano penso a Casa Cipriani, come anche al nuovo J.K. Ogni progetto per me è come un nuovo flm di cui sono sceneggiatore e regista: ogni volta una storia diversa, con personaggi e atmosfere uniche, ma un flo conduttore, che si riconosce nella passione per i dettagli, e in quello che più che è stile è una visione: qualcosa che va oltre l’estetica e che racconta un modo preciso di abitare lo spazio.

dividing them into ‘old’ and ‘new’ collections. Each piece expresses a timeless taste and is therefore always current, the result of meticulous work by myself and the artisans who created them. If I had to name a few, I’d mention the leather saddle chair and the Y side table.

Michele Bönan Interiors has found another elegant setting.

Yes, the winter garden of Casa Bracchi in Forte dei Marmi, another truly special place. And just as in the lemon house here, where you can admire the photographic works of Massimo Listri, there we’ve exhibited the exceptional images by Anne de Carbuccia, a photographer who has traveled to the most remote corners of the planet to document, through her art, endangered animal species, habitats and cultures.

Forte dei Marmi is another town you are deeply connected to.

Here I’ve had the privilege of completing numerous projects, from Adriano Panatta’s house − one of my frst works to be published in design magazines − to more recent restyling works like the historic Caffè Principe, with Patrizio Bertelli and Miuccia Prada, and the Santa Maria and Principe beach clubs, in collaboration with the Pinzauti family. We’re also now working together on a project to redesign the spaces of Villa Elena.

Sì, il giardino d’inverno di Casa Bracchi a Forte dei Marmi, un altro luogo davvero speciale. E come qui, nella Limonaia, si possono ammirare le opere fotografche Massimo Listri, lì abbiamo esposto le eccezionali immagini di Anne de Carbuccia, una fotografa che ha viaggiato nei più remoti angoli del pianeta per documentare, con la sua arte, specie animali, habitat e culture in via d’estinzione.

Forte dei Marmi è un’altra città a cui è molto legato.

Qui ho avuto il privilegio di realizzare numerosi progetti, dalla casa di Adriano Panatta − uno dei miei primi interventi che ho visto pubblicato su riviste di settore − ai più recenti lavori di restyling dello storico Caffè Principe, con Patrizio Bertelli e Miuccia Prada, e dei bagni Santa Maria e Principe, insieme alla famiglia Pinzauti, con cui, attualmente, mi sto dedicando anche a un progetto per ripensare gli spazi di Villa Elena.

Just like San Niccolò Luxury Real Estate, Roberto Lacorte always loves to take on new challenges. We do it by searching for the perfect home; he does it in sports, by sea, on his beautiful cutting-edge boats, and by land, in ultra-fast cars. What we admire in this great entrepreneur and sportsman is his constant drive to go further and write exciting new chapters.

Defying gravity on boats that barely touch the water, cutting through the air on four wheels. A life of challenges, both technological and athletic. This is Roberto Lacorte: a great entrepreneur, founder of the pharmaceutical company PharmaNutra, shipowner, sailor and driver. We asked him to share his most memorable achievements. How did you develop a passion for sailing? As a child, I used to go fshing with my father on a small fshing boat. My frst passion was the sea itself, my love for sailing came as a consequence. In fact, I don’t consider myself a sailor so much as a seaman. I love being on the water in any kind of vessel, whether sail or motor, the important thing is to experience the sea. Even when I began racing, I always did it with the spirit of a seaman.

Your frst racing boat?

It was an 8.5-meter Comet 28 Race, built by my father and me, piece by piece. One day the hull, then the engine, the mast, the equipment, and after a year we completed it and started racing. It was a boat that accompanied us for years and grew with us, race after race. It’s also the boat where I met my wife, which makes it especially dear to me.

And after that?

I moved on to a 34-footer by Vismara, with which we came second in the world championship. Then there was a Beneteau First 40, the boat of our frst family outings, and

Di questo grande imprenditore e sportivo ammiriamo la voglia di andare sempre oltre e scrivere nuovi entusiasmanti capitoli.

Sfdare la gravità su barche che sforano appena l’acqua, fendere l’aria su quattro ruote. Una vita di sfde, tecnologiche e sportive. È Roberto Lacorte, grande imprenditore, fondatore della casa farmaceutica PharmaNutra, armatore, velista e pilota. Ci facciamo raccontare le sue imprese più memorabili. Come nasce la sua passione per la vela? Fin da piccolo uscivo a pesca con mio padre, su un piccolo gozzo a vela. La mia prima passione è stata il mare stesso, l’amore per la vela è stata una conseguenza. Non mi reputo infatti un velista, quanto un marinaio. Amo andare in acqua su ogni mezzo, barca a vela, a motore, l’importante è vivere il mare. Anche quando ho cominciato a partecipare alle competizioni, l’ho sempre fatto con lo spirito di un marinaio.

La sua prima barca da competizione?

È stato un Comet 28 Race di 8 metri e mezzo, auto costruito da me e mio padre, assemblando pezzo dopo pezzo. Un giorno lo scafo, poi il motore, l’albero, le attrezzature e dopo un anno l’abbiamo fnito e abbiamo cominciato a regatare. È stata una barca che ci ha accompagnato per anni e che è cresciuta con noi, gara dopo gara. È su quella barca che ho conosciuto mia moglie, per cui ci sono molto legato.

E dopo?

Sono passato a un 34 piedi, di Vismara, con cui siamo arrivati secondi al campionato del mondo. Poi c’è stato un Beneteau First 40, la barca delle nostre prime uscite in fa-

Yes, exactly. An incredible boat, born from the collaboration of two great professionals: Mark Mills, one of the best naval designers in terms of performance, and Alessandro Vismara, with his exceptional eye for design and aesthetics. With her, we won every competition, thanks also to a crew that brought out the best in her.

After all these successes, how did you come up with the idea for FlyingNikka , the frst full-foil boat for offshore racing?

I had commissioned Mills to design a 77foot racing boat. When he brought me the design, I asked what made it truly special, and he honestly told me that, in terms of performance, it didn’t feature any real innovations. So I pitched him an idea that had been on my mind for a while, a full-foil boat for open sea racing, with all its complexities, variable conditions and signifcant wave motion. And we did it, we made it fy. It was a thrilling challenge. It pushed us to go beyond limits, and we keep doing that, every outing teaches us something new. It was a special moment launching it in Punta Ala at Fabrizio Sonnini’s Costa Etrusca Group shipyard.

The most beautiful regatta?

Winning the Maxi Yacht Rolex Cup in 2015 with SuperNikka. The frst of fve. Another great passion of yours is cars, what do these worlds have in common?

They have many things in common, especially now that I experience sailing with a full-foil boat. Not only because of the technological component, but also due to the team spirit that both regattas and endurance races require.

Can you tell us about the 24 Hours of Le Mans?

I’ll always remember the frst time I left the

Dopo tutti questi successi, com’è nata l’idea di FlyingNikka, la prima barca full foil per le regate d’Altura?

Avevo commissionato a Mills un 77 piedi da competizione, quando mi portò il progetto gli chiesi cosa avesse di veramente particolare e lui, in maniera molto onesta, mi rispose che a livello di prestazioni non aveva grandi innovazioni. Così gli proposi un’idea che mi sforava da tempo, quella di una barca full foil per il mare aperto, con tutte le sue complessità, condizioni variabili, moto ondoso importante... e ci siamo riusciti, siamo riusciti a farla volare. È stata una sfda avvincente. Ci ha spinti ad andare oltre e così continuiamo a fare, ad ogni uscita impariamo qualcosa di nuovo. È stata un'emozione vararla a Punta Ala presso il cantiere Costa Etrusca Group di Fabrizio Sonnini. La più bella regata?

La vittoria con la SuperNikka alla Maxi Yacht Rolex Cup del 2015. La prima di cinque. Un’altra grande passione è quella per le auto, cosa accumuna questi mondi?

Hanno molte similitudini, specialmente ora che vivo la vela con la barca full foil. Non solo per la componente tecnologica, ma anche per lo spirito di squadra che accomuna le regate e le corse di endurance.

pit, crossed the Dunlop bridge and realized I was racing in the 24 Hours of Le Mans... it was incredibly exciting. It was 2017, and in our frst race with a Dallara LMP2, we fnished seventh in class and ninth overall.

Winning the 12 Hours of Sebring two years ago with a Ferrari 488 GTE.

You’re still racing with Ferrari.

Back to the world of boats. What do you think about the America’s Cup coming to Naples?

I feel proud. Italy has always represented excellence in the world of sailing and in the history of the America’s Cup, so I believe this is a well-deserved crowning achievement. What boat do you sail with your family?

My wife and I wanted a wooden boat, elegant and romantic, and LuluNikka, designed by Giovanni Ceccarelli and built by the Checchi shipyard’s master craftsmen, is a true work of art. We use it for family outings and Spirit of Tradition regattas.

And what do you think about ‘land-based’ architecture?

I fnd it extremely fascinating how a good architect can turn a drawing into reality. I experienced it with architect Cristiano Salvatore Re, who renovated the old horse stable that is now our home in San Rossore, starting from just a pencil and a sheet of paper.

Con orgoglio. L’Italia ha sempre rappresentato un’eccellenza nel mondo della vela e nella storia della Coppa America, credo quindi che questo sia il giusto coronamento.

Con la sua famiglia con che barca esce?

Io e mia moglie desideravamo una barca in legno, elegante e romantica, e LuluNikka, disegnata da Giovanni Ceccarelli e costruita dai maestri d’ascia del cantiere Checchi, è una vera opera d’arte. La usiamo per le nostre uscite in famiglia e le regate della categoria Spirit of Tradition.

Cosa pensa dell’architettura ‘su terra’?

Trovo estremamente affascinante come un bravo architetto riesca a tradurre un disegno in realtà. L’ho potuto sperimentare con l’architetto Cristiano Salvatore Re, che ha ristrutturato l’antica scuderia di cavalli che oggi è la nostra casa a San Rossore, a partire da una matita e un foglio di carta.

From the windows of his home, Umberto Montano looks out at the Tower of Arnolfo. Tat majestic silhouette, which he studied in textbooks as a boy, is now part of his daily life. But it is also a visible sign of his deep connection with Florence, that welcomed him with its creative energy. In this conversation, he gives us a portrait of a vibrant Florence that, in the end, feels like an ideal home.

Let’s start from the beginning. When did your connection with Florence begin? It was January 1981. I came from Southern Italy, with little in my pocket and a heart full of hope. Florence wasn’t part of my plans, but it welcomed me. Not only with its beauty – which is obvious – but with a rare kind of energy: here, there’s room for those willing to take action. I never faced obstacles, only opportunities. You started out as a teacher, but then? Yes, I was a teacher at the hotel-man-

Partiamo dall’inizio. Quando ha avuto inizio il suo legame con Firenze? Era il gennaio del 1981. Io venivo dal Sud, con poco in tasca e un cuore pieno di speranza. Firenze non era nei miei piani, ma mi ha accolto. Non solo con la sua bellezza – che è evidente – ma con un’energia rara: qui chi ha voglia di fare trova spazio. Non ho mai sentito ostacoli, solo possibilità.

Inizia come insegnante, ma poi? Sì, insegnavo alla scuola alberghiera. Il la-

agement school. That job brought me here. But the real turning point occurred when I left teaching and started my frst restaurant: Alle Murate, on Via Ghibellina. It was a difcult area at the time, but I had an illustrious neighbor: Enoteca Pinchiorri. That steady coming and going, that word of mouth, was essential. Little by little, Alle Murate became a landmark, eventually competing – gracefully – with the big names in Florentine dining. From then on, a crescendo of insights... I was lucky to have good ideas at the right time. But the moment I remember most vividly was when I moved Alle Murate to Via del Proconsolo. In that building, I discovered a 14th-century fresco cycle that had been forgotten for centuries: one of the world’s major examples of medieval civic painting, featuring the faces of Dante and Boccaccio. Recovering that heritage and giving it back to the city was my way of thanking Florence. Every project that I have ever taken on, from Osteria Caffè Italiano to Villa Bardini, has always been driven by this desire: enhancing identity, telling something true. Is that how Mercato Centrale was born? Yes, this project is the culmination of my entire career. I wanted to bring together,

Piano piano Alle Murate è diventato un punto di riferimento, fno a competere – con garbo – con i grandi nomi della ristorazione forentina.

Da lì un crescendo di intuizioni... Ho avuto la fortuna di avere buone idee al momento giusto. Ma il momento che ricordo con più emozione è stato quando ho trasferito Alle Murate in via del Proconsolo. In quel palazzo ho scoperto un ciclo di affreschi del Trecento dimenticato da secoli: uno dei più importanti esempi di pittura civica medievale al mondo, con i volti di Dante e Boccaccio. Recuperare quel patrimonio e restituirlo alla città è stato il mio modo di ringraziare Firenze. Ogni progetto che ho toccato, da Osteria Caffè Italiano a Villa Bardini, è sempre stato guidato da questo desiderio: valorizzare l’identità, raccontare qualcosa di vero. Ed è così che nasce anche il Mercato Centrale?

in a single space, the true stars of Italian food: the pasta maker, the baker, the fshmonger, the butcher. Each with their own identity, their own shop, their own story. It’s a distributed menu, with no paper, but full of authentic experiences. We brought back to life a space that was once considered lost. We reawakened an entire neighborhood, restoring it to its original dignity and beauty. Mercato Centrale has had a regenerative effect: social, economic and cultural. A bit like architecture: when it’s done well, it can transform an entire area. It’s the same idea :enhancing what already exists and making it thrive. After Florence, the Mercato Centrale project expanded across Italy, reaching Rome, Turin, Milan, and even abroad to Melbourne… With success came a kind of duty: to grow. We exported the Mercato Centrale model to other Italian cities, and then abroad. In Melbourne, we opened with a format that we don’t manage directly, but for which we oversaw every design and strategic detail. It’s a challenge, a new dimension of the Made in Italy. And in the fall, we’ll open in Bolzano too, in a beautiful location. Each time, it’s a new challenge, but always with the same spirit: creating places where quality is the real luxury. What does Florence mean to you today?

Florence is home. I live on Via de’ Neri and all my windows overlook the Tower of Arnolfo. I love this city’s culture, its ironic spirit, its rugged elegance. Florentines are gruff yet genuine. And Florence… it’s a workshop of civilization, and has been for centuries. A place that generates ideas, that always welcomes those who have something to offer. Those of us lucky enough to call it home know there’s no better place in the world.

mio percorso. Ho voluto mettere insieme, in un unico spazio, i veri protagonisti del cibo: il pastaio, il panettiere, il pescivendolo, il macellaio. Ognuno con la propria identità, la propria bottega, la propria storia. È un menu diffuso, senza carta ma con esperienze autentiche. Abbiamo ridato vita a uno spazio considerato perduto. Abbiamo riacceso un intero quartiere, restituendogli dignità e bellezza. Il Mercato Centrale ha avuto un effetto rigenerativo: sociale, economico e culturale. Un po’ come l’architettura, quando è ben fatta, può trasformare un’intera zona. È la stessa logica: valorizzare l’esistente, renderlo vivo.

Dopo Firenze il progetto di Mercato Centrale ha viaggiato in Italia, toccando Roma, Torino, Milano, ma anche all’estero arrivando ora fno a Melbourne…

Con il successo è arrivato quasi un dovere: crescere. Abbiamo esportato il modello del Mercato Centrale in altre città italiane, poi all’estero. A Melbourne abbiamo aperto con un format che non gestiamo direttamente, ma di cui abbiamo curato ogni dettaglio progettuale e strategico. È una sfda, una nuova dimensione del made in Italy. E in autunno apriremo anche a Bolzano, in un posto bellissimo. Ogni volta è una nuova sfda, ma sempre con lo stesso spirito: creare luoghi dove la qualità sia il vero lusso.

Cosa rappresenta per te Firenze, oggi? Firenze è casa. Vivo in via de’ Neri, tutte le mie fnestre guardano la Torre di Arnolfo. Amo la cultura di questa città, il suo spirito ironico, la sua eleganza ruvida. Il forentino è burbero ma autentico. E Firenze... è un laboratorio della civiltà, da secoli. Un luogo che genera idee, che accoglie sempre chi ha qualcosa da dare. Chi, come me, ha la fortuna di chiamarla casa, sa che non esiste posto migliore al mondo.

How did the My Style Bags project start? It began almost playfully, from an idea that emerged through our experience in the family business.

It’s the city where I grew up, both personally and culturally. It’s a place full of beauty, history and inspiration. To me, Florence is – without doubt – the most beautiful city in the world.

How important is home to you?

Home, to me, is the ultimate happy place. I love decorating it with care and enjoying it to the fullest, just like the garden, which I see as a natural extension of domestic intimacy. Home is not just a physical space, it’s a state of mind: it refects who we are, our tastes, our affections.

I’m quite a perfectionist : I appreciate clean, organized spaces. That same attention to detail and balance is refected in the jewellery I create. My designs are a direct extension of how I live: elegant, structured and intentional. I believe that simplicity, when done right, speaks volumes.

What are your favorite gems?

Emerald is my absolute favorite. In many ways, it reminds me of life itself: fragile, unique and incredibly precious.

An iconic Ribas Jewellery piece?

Frankly, it’s in the making right now. We’re working with a breathtaking 3.58 carat Paraíba tourmaline from Mozambique. Its vivid turquoise tone captures the essence of a tropical ocean. The gem will be the heart of an extraordinary necklace, encrusted with hundreds of diamonds that fow gracefully around the neck and extend elegantly down the spine.

You are so elegant and stylish. Any advice for men’s jewellery?

Personally, I really enjoy colored gemstones for men, especially when paired with white diamonds. The key is to wear jewellery that refects your own style. It’s not about making a loud statement, but about wearing something that feels like an extension of who you are. What binds you to Italy and why did you choose Florence for your boutique?

I’ve been working with Italy for many years, especially in the production of our jewellery and now also in our perfume line. For me, Florence is the birthplace of world culture, a city where art, business, banking and tradition all began to fourish. From the very frst day, I felt a deep connection to this place. If Florence were a gem, what gem would it be?

A ruby: enchanting, regal and incredibly rare.

Lo smeraldo. Per molti versi mi ricorda la vita stessa: fragile, unica e incredibilmente preziosa.

Un gioiello iconico di Ribas Jewellery?

Francamente, è in fase di realizzazione proprio ora. Stiamo lavorando con una splendida tormalina Paraíba da 3,58 carati proveniente dal Mozambico. Con la sua vivida tonalità turchese, sarà il cuore di una collana tempestata di diamanti che scorrono con grazia intorno al collo e lungo la schiena.

Lei che è così elegante e ricercato nello stile, un consiglio per un gioiello maschile? Personalmente, apprezzo molto le pietre preziose colorate per gli uomini, soprattutto se abbinate a diamanti bianchi. Ma il segreto è indossare gioielli che rifettano il proprio stile. Non si tratta di fare una dichiarazione vistosa, ma di indossare qualcosa che sembri un’estensione di ciò che sei.

Cosa vi lega all’Italia e perché avete scelto Firenze per la vostra boutique?

Collaboro con l’Italia da molti anni, soprattutto nella produzione dei nostri gioielli e ora anche della nostra linea di profumi. Per me, Firenze è la culla della cultura mondiale: una città dove arte, affari, attività bancaria e tradizione hanno iniziato a forire. Fin dal primo giorno, ho sentito un profondo legame con questo luogo.

Se Firenze fosse una gemma quale sarebbe?

Un rubino: incantevole, regale e incredibilmente raro.

In Soddo, Ethiopia, there is a place where architecture meets ethics and the future is built through education and dignity: Busajo Campus, a project started in 2009 when two Florentines, Lucia Giubbi and her husband Martino Montanarini, met Busajo, whose name means ‘one who looks far ahead’ in Amharic. Busajo was an eighteen-year-old Ethiopian boy at the time who, from a street child, became the symbol (and today also the deputy director) of an organization that bears his name and has changed the lives of thousands of children. The architectural design by the André Benaim Firm blends elegantly into the Ethiopian landscape by using natural materials and harmonious lines. It is an oasis of beauty for those who, until recently, had no shelter and could not see beyond a harsh present. Children, victims of abandonment, poverty, violence and exploitation, fnd at the Campus – supported by many small and large donors – food, hygiene and healthcare, education, sports, affection, and above all, a vision. The motto is simple: education = future. From vocational workshops like carpentry, weaving and baking to sports felds, every space is designed to restore dignity through action. Therefore a project that aims for self-sufciency and invests in education in the broadest sense, understood as the only path to salvation.
