Nina Turnbull I’ve been in the fitness industry for twelve years and I have been a personal trainer for six years.

I’m based in two health clubs; Lifestyle Fitness in Middlesbrough and The Gym Group in Darlington.

I wanted to become a personal trainer because I wanted to support and change people’s health and self esteem for the better. Seeing how much my sessions help my clients physical and mental wellbeing is very rewarding.

After leaving school I worked in a beauty salon for a few years, however when the recession hit I had my hours cut forcing me to become self employed. I have been self employed for ten years and it has been the best decision I have ever made. I owned an award winning beauty salon while studying a foundation degree in advanced treatments and a BA Hons degree in business. However after having a baby and a birth trauma I decided to take a slightly different direction and The Baby Retreat was born.

I frequently get asked my opinion on what a healthy diet looks like. My aim as a personal trainer is to improve my clients relationship with food. I whole heartedly believe in having the best of both worlds.

I don’t believe in demonising foods by calling them cheat meals or dirty foods as it gives people a negative emotional connection to those foods.

People will break their diets once they’ve had “bad food” and it encourages the “oh I’ve been naughty today, I’ll start again on Monday” scenario.

My aim is to use all the skills I have learnt over the years in massage therapy to help anxious mums to be and new mothers to feel relaxed and comfortable during this precious time, as this is something I would have loved on my maternity leave. Our plan for the very soon future is to open a baby retreat where parents can come and relax in our lounge with a coffee and a book, take part in our baby classes and treat themselves to a massage and other beauty treatments to feel better about themselves.

In the future we plan on offering a jam packed activity day to incorporate everything we offer.

In the quest to be healthy people often completely cut out all foods with less nutritional value. This sort of diet becomes difficult and quite frankly boring to stick to, so we binge, feel bad about it, give up and the cycle continues. Simply eat foods with high nutritional value 80% of the time and eat your favourite treats 20% of the time. It’s all about balance! A balanced diet and exercise go hand in hand for improving your physical and mental health.

My name is

Diane Plummer I started Revive Aesthetics in 2007 after being a NHS nurse for fifteen years. After having two children I wanted the freedom and flexibility of working for myself. My husband runs his own business and he encouraged and supported me to follow my dream.

I have always had an interest in the beauty industry and with my nursing background, medical aesthetics seemed like an obvious choice. I completed a botox and dermal filler course in Harley Street, London. I began building my client base in local North-East salons and working mobile. As my client base grew I expanded my skills and trained in advanced botox and dermal fillers, skin peels and laser skin rejuvenation, micro-needling and fat reduction. As my skill set grew I needed a more permanent base to work from and set up clinic in my home in 2011. Working from home gives me a great home and work life balance and I’ve had some really positive feedback from clients who say they like the privacy and discretion of a treatment in clinical environment that is warm and friendly.

Trends in facial aesthetics are always changing, clients are often requesting a more natural look. Over the last few years I have also seen a huge increase in the number of men seeking treatments, men want to look and feel good too. Twelve years down the line I continue to develop my skills and move the business forward. I am now offering procedures that deliver surgical results without the need for surgery, including non surgical rhinoplasty, chin and jawline contouring, full facial contouring and lifting and localised fat reduction.

Motorsport mogul Daniel Kell returns to karting fter a fantastic rookie season racing in the Northern Sports & Saloon Car Championship, Ingleby Barwick teenager Dan Kell topped it off with taking the title of ‘Most Outstanding New Comer’ awarded by the Darlington & District Motor Club in conjunction with the NSSCC. Aged just 17, Dan had an amazing 1st season, winning several Class B1 trophies to claim 2nd in Class B1 at the end of the season. At the last ever race weekend at Rockingham, he raced his way to take his 1st podium, finishing 2nd in the All Comers race.

The Sierra XR4X4 is currently in the workshop being prepared for the new season which kicks off at the NSSCC’s home circuit, Croft in April.

In the meantime, Dan is getting back into Karting, racing in the monthly Owner Driver Sprint Series at Teesside Karting, a track he knows well after starting his race career there aged just 8.

Now that Dan has a new Senior Max engine he’s looking forward to some great fun on track!

Will this be Steve Boyd’s BeST season?

This year my race car will exhibit a concept by an inspirational young man called James Connaughton. James is a smiley, happy teenager, who has a rare form of cerebral palsy. James’ parents Julie and Paul, founders of JPC Community Farm, have partnered with Bespoke Supportive Tenancies (BeST), to enable their dream of a unique environment for people with varying complex needs in North Yorkshire a reality.

One night while I was on Facebook, I came across a post by Julie, she had posted a picture of a car James had designed. I was totally moved by all the Facebook comments and seeing how proud Julie was of her son, I told myself there and then “I'm going to bring this to life”, without delay I got on the phone

Working in one direction, use a dry nailbrush and gently brush over the suede to remove any surface debris and dirt. For stubborn stains use a clean white washcloth and rub white vinegar over the stain and leave to dry. Use a small amount of white vinegar as you want avoid excess moisture when working with suede.

Throwing your canvas trainers straight into the wash can damage your shoes and even damage your washing machine! Put your shoes inside of a towel, roll up the towel and place inside of a pillow case. This protects your shoes from getting a battering. After washing your shoes, place them on a clothes airer to dry.

Do not put your shoes in the tumble dryer, as using heat could melt the glue and warp the soles.

PATENT LEATHER

Have your patent leather shoes lost their shine? Do not fret, it is easily restored! Simply rub some petroleum jelly into the shoes using a clean washcloth and gently buff to restore their sheen. Be careful not to get any petroleum jelly on the soles! Shiny shoes aren’t worth slipping and sliding!

If your rubber flip-flops smell and look less than fresh after a beach trip, start by running warm water over them. Sprinkle the wet sandals with baking soda, then let them sit for at least five minutes before using an old soft toothbrush to scrub them.
