The Tesco Community Champion scheme hosts days where the charities can offer raffles to raise funds and boost their profile in the community, often meeting people who may benefit from their services but had not known it was available to them. The scheme can support your community project by providing information and access to fundraising opportunities; helping groups to raise vital funds for projects. The Community Champion scheme often works with the Tesco Bags of Help grant that gives funds to wonderful local charities so that they can expand and continue to provide their services to those in need.
The Coulby Community Champion scheme by Tesco Coulby Newham is a wonderful program which benefits the area in many ways, ranging from donating surplus food to those in need through the Community Food Connection, to supporting local projects with their Bags of Help community grant scheme. However it is the work of the local community that really brings these schemes to life. People coming together to better their local area through charity work and kind generous acts. The scheme often works in partnership with local charities to raise funds and bring smiles to the Tesco store and the community beyond. The Coulby Community Champion scheme has worked with The Salvation Army, The White Feather Project, My Sister’s Place, The Teesside Family Foundation, and JPC Community Farm, to name a few. These wonderful charities work tirelessly to support those in need in the local area.

As well as charity work, the scheme also plans events that aid the area, such as litter-picking, giving treat boxes to key workers to show their appreciation, supplying items to food banks and donating toys to children’s charities. They have a Facebook page where they share the latest raffles, projects, give aways and competitions you can get involved in. Mind understand that mental health is different for everyone; personal circumstances and culture can influence attitudes towards receiving help. The different targeted campaigns were designed to start the conversation about positive mental health, encouraging people to stop suffering silence and instead feeling comfortable getting the help they need to feel better.
Mind is the leading local mental health charity in Teesside and it’s their mission that everyone in the local area has access to mental health support. They are committed to working with every community and individual across Middlesbrough and Stockton to ensure they can access help to improve their emotional wellbeing. Mind support over 8,000 local people every year who are struggling with their mental health. In 2020 and 2021 this number has significantly increased to well over 10,000. Mind are passionate about making sure that help is accessible to all. No one has to struggle alone, help is only a phone call or a website visit away. This year has been one of the hardest on record for everyone, but the fallout from COVID 19 has been felt particularly hard in Teesside. As we continue to find our way through the pandemic, Mind’s work is more important than ever. Mind is working to break down the stigma surrounding mental health, therapy shouldn’t be a taboo subject, it can positively change lives. Mind have several campaigns designed to reach various demographics and social groups, such as; key workers, football fans, office workers, GP’s, and those who have recently been discharged from hospital.

In 2020 mind celebrated their 25th anniversary, they have lots planned for the future and hope that you can get involved to raise funds. Mind wants to reflect upon their 25th year to show that they are here for our local community and that they can be counted on to help make a difference. The North East of England has the highest rates of suicide than any other part of the country. One in five local children are suffering from poor mental and emotional health, which is higher than the national average. So now more than ever, people in our local communities need access to mental health support and services. Mind simply couldn’t do what they do without support from the local community. Donations like the ones in memory of Lee help enable them to deliver the many diverse services and projects that help so many people in our local community. Donations are vital to keep the Charity providing this support. Local supporters Glynis and Lisa Hearfield along with Joanne Clark from Taylor Made Conveyancing donated £1,126.00 in memory of Lee Hearfield who passed away February 2020. Donations to the Charity can be made in memory of people who have struggled and lost their battle with mental health to ensure Mind’s invaluable work can continue. I had not realised just how good an Elephant Bag would be! Shab and the team have been great, we ordered the bag as we were moving to a new house and needed to get rid of some rubbish, however due to Covid and lockdown our house move was delayed and the team had no issues with us keeping the Elephant Bag until we had it filled and ready for collection.
