IT’S WHAT EVERYBODY’S TALKING ABOUT
SUPPORT NEEDED FOR STOCKTON SPORTABILITY FOOTBALL CLUB We are Stockton Sportability Football Club and are in need of some small sponsorship so the lads can keep doing what they love, playing football. We are a club for adults with different levels of learning difficulties and abilities. These range from autism to severe learning difficulties and some physical difficulties. We have an age group of Sixteen and above. The club was launched just under 14 years ago by Chris Homer, an exfootballer himself. In July 2017 we took part in our very first competition and won! It was at the North-East Ability Counts Invitation Cup, thanks to the Rotary Clubs North-East Disabled Games. The following year we won again! We have since had our football strips sponsored by several contracting companies. This year we were invited to compete again in the Rotary Clubs North-East Disabled Games and guess what… we did it again. We won division 2 and came 2nd in division 4. Each division is banded in terms of the different levels of learning difficulties that the lads possess as this ensures that matches are fair and that one team doesn’t dominate the other too much. As you can see on the photo’s there are lots of happy smiling faces. This club means a lot to the lads. It gives them companionship, freedom to have some fun and enjoy something that most people take for granted. They don’t only develop their football skills but it allows them to develop social skills, as well as confidence and self-esteem. We are now affiliated to the Durham FA, the North-East Ability Counts league which means that we must get the players insured etc. The insurance as you can imagine starts to cost money. Fortunately, that is where the sponsorship comes into help. The club is largely dependent on sponsorships to help provide the club with new team kits and equipment. Any company willing to sponsor us will have the company logo on the football kits. Well done Ladies!
Happiness. As well as a wonderful host speech, guests were also treated to a catwalk with fashion supplied by local boutiques and designers; Betty’s Boudoir and House of Zana. This years three local chosen charities were; Hug in a Bag, Cause Hampers, and Spread the Happiness. Each were awarded £1,200. To date, NELD has raised over £325,000 for local north-east charities and organisations since the first event in 1983. All funds raised from this event go to the North East Ladies Day (NELD) charity. We can’t wait to find out what this years charity fundraising total will be!
The Annual Anniversary Luncheon is NELD’s biggest annual event. After the 2020 luncheon was unable to go ahead, ladies from across the region were buzzing with excitement to attend this years event. This year it was hosted by Shonette BasonWood, from the charity Spread the

British cuisine has a long rich history; originally, regional dishes were based simply on what was grown in the area - local livestock and farmer’s yields.
Some tastes have fallen by the wayside over the years. These Indian dishes were adopted by British people, each chef adding their own twist, slowly turning it from traditional Indian flavours to a British version.
However as Britain evolved to become more connected, the railroads allowed us to sell and share food across the country at great speed in monumental amounts. Regional dishes and ingredients could be passed around the land.
THE STORY BEHIND THE UK’s FAVOURITE DISHES The Victorian Era ushered in new and exciting spices and cuisine from across the globe through wider travel and expeditions. Suddenly the Brits love of curry was born. Did you know that one of the original flavours of ice cream sold was curry flavoured?
Fish and chips has been a long standing favourite, but it wasn’t until 1896 that the first restaurant dedicated to the dish was opened in London; prior to this it was seen more as a simple takeaway meal. Chinese dishes were introduced to UK tastebuds after the Second World War, attributed to service personnel from Hong Kong choosing to make the UK their home, opening their own restaurants and takeaways. Italian food became more popular after the First World War, with cafe’s and ice cream parlours offering new deserts and drinks to tantalise the taste buds. However it wasn’t until the 1960’s that pizza began to gain popularity. Englishman Peter Boizot opened his very first Pizza Express in London in 1965 after visiting Italy and being inspired by food. It’s hard to imagine our restaurants and cafe menu’s not being adorned with these types of delicious dishes.

What influences your choices when putting together the menu?
Gossip chats to manager Matthew Moore - Hamilton, of new Ingleby Cafe Bistro How long have you been working in the food industry? I have worked in the hospitality industry for 14 years, I started off glass collecting as a weekend job and slowly worked my way up. I can’t imagine working in any other industry. What previous venues have you worked at? I have worked at the George and Dragon, 12 Harland Place and then Luna Blu Tapas and Cocktails, working in various roles. Each place has taught me something different.
What made you choose the location? When the location came up, we knew it would be the right place due to it being in one of the biggest housing estates in Europe. It’s great for ingleby residents to have more places to go to that’s closer to home rather than having to go elsewhere and get taxis etc. Making Ingleby Barwick its own scene.
My favourite dishes are the open sandwiches on the lunch menu because there are not many places that offer them, therefore it is something slightly different. What are your ideas / plans and goals for Ingleby Cafe Bistro? My main plan for Ingleby Cafe Bistro is to make it a successful business and to create a regular customer base. I want to recognise happy customers coming back again and again, whether it be for a birthday celebration or for a relaxed couple of drinks.

My drive to open Ingleby Cafe Bistro came from the fact that I could not move any further up from manager. After working my way up to managing other venues, I felt that the next step was to open a place of my own.
