Tell us more about your teaching.

MOLLY’S IN TOWN

I love teaching hospitality, I am passionate about how diverse the industry is. I have been a programme leader for the last 6 years; organising many trips with students, masterclasses, and guest speaker events. This gives students an understanding of the breadth of the industry they can enter. What sort of food and drink is on offer at The Scene? The Scene offers food to suit all tastes and occasions; I love our breakfast sharing platter, charcuterie board, the freshly baked scones, plus the ‘Triple H Toastie’ is delicious, it’s filled with halloumi, harissa and honey. It’s a simple menu that can be changed to be vegan, gluten free and halal.

FASHION

Whether it is a holiday abroad, a staycation, a long getaway or a short weekend trip, packing can be tricky. Here is the guide to smart packing.

HOW TO PACK SMART AND TRAVEL LIGHT It can be very tempting to throw all of your favourite clothes into your suitcase and call it a day; the only problem is when you arrive to find that nothing matches to create a full outfit. Clashing patterns and vivid colours need to be paired with simple plain garments. Try to plan out full outfits instead of thinking item by item. It is important to consider how well each piece can mix and match, if that pair of shorts only works with one specific shirt you own, it will be sat taking up space the majority of the time.

Choose pieces that can be integrated into any combination. If you are going on a shorter stay you can even roughly plan an outfit for each day and then bring a few spares incase of weather changes or different plans. Accessories are key when packing light as they can be used to make an outfit look more formal. Pair a simple dress with some jewellery, a bag and heels or sandals to elevate the style to the next level. This is also handy for transforming a look from daytime casual to night time elegance. Avoid packing large bottles of toiletries where possible. Unless you need to use specific products for allergy reasons, simply bring smaller size toiletries to use when you arrive and you can purchase your holiday toiletries when you get there. This will free up some space in your suitcase and will be lighter too. One final crucial tip is to spread your luggage across two suitcases with your travel partner. Rather than having all your items in your own suitcase, split your luggage across the two suitcases so that if one is missing or delayed you both will still have some of your items instead of one person missing everything.

BEAUTY

Wellness is a buzzword that has gained popularity in the past year or two; but what does it mean? How is it different to just beauty or health? Wellness is more important than you think.

SO WHAT IS WELLNESS Wellness encompasses beauty, fitness, and mental health into one. A wellness approach isn’t just skin deep, it’s all about looking beyond aesthetic appearances and thinking about your emotions and your overall wellbeing as a whole. Exercise isn’t about getting a bikini body, it’s to improve your health and release endorphins to feel great. Beauty isn’t about improving or

fixing yourself, it’s to express yourself and boost confidence. Wellness can be boiled down to simply looking after yourself inside and out, balancing your physical appearance with positive mental health practices. Popular ways people bring wellness into their lives is through getting back to basics, cut down on the junk food and start eating real food to improve your gut health and to fill you with energy. Take a yoga class to handle stress and to give your aches and pains some TLC. Evaluate your daily routine and take out unnecessary steps that cause stress, think about how you can add more peace to your day, maybe it’s something as small as being more organised so that your day goes along more smoothly. Wellness is different for each person, for some it’s a relaxing face mask, for others it’s going on a daily early morning run; take some time to think about how you can care for your body and mind.

ECO

Alongside recycling, making some small changes to your daily routine can make a huge difference to your carbon footprint. You don’t need to undergo a huge lifestyle overhaul, adding the following tips and tricks into your daily routine will be easier than you think, plus you may save money along the way!

MAKE YOUR HOME MORE ECO-FRIENDLY

Make the most of natural light, instead of using lamps and lights during the day, open your curtains and blinds to let the sunshine in. Not only will you be using less electricity, being exposed to natural sunlight will make you feel better too.

Small purchases on everyday items such as sandwich bags, straws, and bottled water may not seem like a lot of money, but overtime they can burn a hole in your wallet and they often end up in landfills or in the ocean if they aren’t disposed of properly. Switching to reusable plastic free sandwich wraps / food containers, straws and bottles will be a lot cheaper in the long run and will reduce the amount of plastic you use.

Don’t throw away perfectly good items, repurpose them or donate them if you can so that they can have a second life rather than being destroyed. Glass jam or sauce jars are great for storing your herbs and spices, bath salts, or you can even use them for decoration by filling them with shells from your latest beach trip. You can reduce your water bill by making the most out of what is free - rainwater! Collect your rainwater and use it for watering your plants instead of using tap water.

Check for eco settings on your dishwasher or washing machine, the wash time may take longer but it will save water and energy and will be cheaper to run, a win -win situation. To take this tip to the next level try using a cooler wash setting and hanging your clothes out to dry or use a drying rack where possible instead of your tumble dryer. Natural drying is a lot more gentle on your clothing so it will keep your garments looking their best for longer.

Keep forgetting your re-usable shopping bag? Keep a couple laundry baskets in the boot of your car, fill your trolley up and unload it into the baskets when you get back to your car. It makes taking your food shopping into the house much easier too!

A few small changes to your routine is better than doing nothing at all, each little action makes a difference!

ADY FOR THE SUNSHINE ( T E E S S I D E ) LT D

Clear It! (Teesside) Ltd are environmentally conscious, aiming to minimise the waste going into landfills by working with local charities and people in need to reuse items as much as possible with items being donated before taking any waste to recycling centres.

Their positive reviews speak for themselves Clear It! (Teesside) Ltd have been fantastic from start to finish! We got an Elephant Bag from them as we did not have anywhere to put a skip. I had not realised just how good an Elephant Bag would be! Shab and the team have been great, we ordered the bag as we were moving to a new house and needed to get rid of some rubbish, however due to Covid and lockdown our house move was delayed and the team had no issues with us keeping the Elephant Bag until we had it filled and ready for collection. Collection was done at the agreed date and time and the gents that came were fantastic and really helpful. I 100% recommend using Clear It! (Teesside) Ltd for your waste removal needs!

I enquired about Clear It! (Teesside) Ltd through their Facebook page, receiving a quick reply and the flat pack bag was delivered the same day. I cleared the loft, shed and garage; the bag was strong and easy to move around, even when full. It holds much more than you’d expect. Following advice from the Clear It! (Teesside) Ltd Facebook page, I checked their licence and that of the waste management company being used, this can be done online, so I know where my rubbish is going and that it will be disposed of responsibly. Fast communication, bag collected as agreed, good value, social distancing measures observed and suitable PPE worn. Would definitely use again. Connie Buckley, Ingleby Barwick

Laura Hales, Billingham When you’re home a lot you notice how much stuff you need to get rid of, but with lockdown and public waste sites closed it’s not easy to get rid of rubbish.
