After a brief intermission, the second set opens with a multi-media tribute to The Band Band and The Last Waltz, followed by a set of The Band Band’s most beloved songs - many of whom lead their own critically acclaimed tribute bands - performing the songs of those guest stars featured in the original concert. Queens native Joe Santagato has built one of the most successful independent media empires, and it’s all happening right here in New York.
His podcast listened to by millions,The Basement Yard, co-hosted with his Brooklyn childhood best friend Frankie Alvarez, played to a sold-out crowd at Radio City Music Hall, and this month, they’re kicking off a brand-new 24-city national tour that will culminate in another major NYC show. The energy, the chemistry, and the millions of fans tuning in weekly are proof that Joe isn’t just riding a trend, he’s creating one.
Joe and Frankie don’t dissect headlines or try to be experts, they just talk. About nothing. And their audience can’t get enough of it. That loyal fanbase has made the podcast the 7th most popular show on Patreon and propelled their live shows into sellout territory nationwide.
Joe’s story is pure NYC hustle. He started making YouTube videos from his bedroom in Queens, dropped out of college, and worked his way up, first at Elite Daily, then launching his own
In 1988, Cowboy Junkies proved that there was an audience waiting for something quiet, beautiful and reflective. The Trinity Session was like a whisper that cut through the noise – and it was compelling. It stood out amid the flash and bombast that defined the late 80’s. The now classic recording combined folk, blues, and rock in a way that had never been heard before and went on to sell more than a million copies. Their ability to communicate volumes before the lyrics kick in defines an enduring career. Where most bands chase trends, the Junkies have stayed their course, maintaining a low-impact excavation of melody and evocative language delivered sotto voce in singer Margo Timmins’ feathery alto. They’re appearing at The Landmark on Main Street, Port Washington September 21. Tix: $65-$85 516-767-6444 or email boxoffice@ landmarkonmainstreet.org
Drawing their name from Def Leppard’s fifth studio album (which debuted at No. 1 on both the UK Albums Chart and the U.S. Billboard 200), ADRENALIZE – The Ultimate Def Leppard Experience recreates the chart-topping, chestthumping anthems that made Def Leppard the iconic and dominant force in arena rock of the ‘80s and beyond.
You’ll hear the hook-laden radio and MTV megahits like “Foolin’”, “Rock of Ages,” “Photograph,” “Hysteria,” “Rocket,” “Animal,” “Armageddon It,” “Love Bites,” and “Pour Some Sugar On Me,” along with deep cuts like “Wasted,” “High ‘n’ Dry,” and “Switch 625!”
No rock band epitomized the spirit of the ‘80s more than Def Leppard. Fusing the hard edge of heavy metal to a melodic pop sensibility, the British rockers dominated that decade with two classic albums—1983’s Pyromania and 1987’s Hysteriawhose massive sales were fueled by the band’s near-constant presence on MTV.
They’re bringing their show to The Suffolk Theater in Riverhead on November 7th.

“OLD MAN YELLS AT CROWD”
Comedian James Fritz announced the release of his new comedy album ‘OLD MAN YELLS AT CROWD’ on A SPECIAL THING RECORDS. To record the follow up to his debut album ‘Still Together’, James returned to Chicago, the city where he started his comedy career and was named “Best Stand-up” by the Chicago Reader. Taking the stage at the Lincoln Lodge, the crowd gave him a warm welcome as he shared his thoughts about dating a witch, the ease of getting a vasectomy, working as a TA, his dead mom and his dad’s questionable behavior at the funeral, separating the art from the artist, and much more. His first album ‘Still Together’ was released by a Special Thing Records to enthusiastic reviews and he has since worked on Squidbillies, The
Frankie Quinones Show podcast, and been seen on HBOMax and Adult Swim. He hopes to one day make enough money to leave the country.

With the trade deadline then ten days away, I asked Mets president of baseball operations, David Stearns, if the general managers of bad teams were calling him and doing a variation of Henny Youngman’s famous one-liner, “Take my wife, please,” by beseeching him “to take their players, please.” Stearns’ facial expression told me he was clearly not familiar with the legendary Borscht Belt comedian.
Stearns normally answers reporters’ questions with the confidence of a power hitter knowing a fastball is coming right down the middle of the plate. That was not the case with my query, however. “Uh no, they haven’t called,” he stammered and repeated. His response did not pass the smell test. Four days later, the Mets acquired lefty reliever Gregory Soto from the Baltimore Orioles. He told Mets SNY field reporter Steve Gelbs he had been working on this trade for a couple of weeks. I am mystified as to why Stearns could not simply have replied, “I talk with other teams’ executives all the time,” instead of the untrue statement he gave.
Hall of Famer Joe Torre, who managed the Mets during one of their worst periods in the late 1970s and early 1980s, before finding greater success with the Yankees fifteen years later, followed David Stearns into the Citi Field press conference room. He was there to promote his foundation, Safe at Home, whose mission is to protect children from domestic violence. Torre recalled harrowing memories of his Brooklyn childhood with his abusive father. The Safe at Home Foundation will hold its annual gala on November 13 at Manhattan’s Gotham Hall.
Torre was asked if he had any David Wright memories since he was the
best third baseman in Mets history. He said he enjoyed having him as his third baseman when he managed Team USA during the World Baseball Classic. He also joked how his Hall of Fame closer, Mariano Rivera, was upset that Torre ordered him to intentionally walk Carlos Delgado to pitch to Wright with the bases loaded and the game on the line. Wright delivered a walk-off double. “Mr. Torre, please don’t ever have me do that again!” Joe claimed Rivera told him after the game.
David Wright was honored by the Mets the previous week as he was both inducted into their Hall of Fame and had his #5 retired and hung on the rafters of Citi Field. He was also the subject of an SNY documentary, “The Wright Way,” which surprisingly featured former Phillies stars Jimmy Rollins and Ryan Howard.
David Wright did take some Don Rickles-type zingers at Philadelphia which would have made W.C. Fields proud. I asked Wright if his shots at my childhood stomping grounds were good-natured shtick. He gave me a long smirk and said, “I’m sorry you’re from there! Seriously, Philadelphia was my favorite place to play. I loved the rivalry, the competition, and the atmosphere. That doesn’t mean, however, I liked the players, fans, or the city!”
Steve Albert, the youngest brother of the legendary Albert brothers broadcasting family, has written a fun memoir, “A Funny Thing Happened On The Way To The Broadcast Booth” (Aubrey Press). It is a hybrid of a traditional biography and a delightful collection of anecdotes from his lengthy career, A good example is Albert recalling how a fan, not realizing he was about to go on the air before a New Jersey
The long-running crowd-pleaser “Mamma Mia!” returns to Broadway for the first time since its 14-year run (2001 to 2015), opening at its original theater and boasting the original creative team including director Phyllida Lloyd and choreographer Anthony Van Laast. The jukebox musical shoehorns Swedish pop stars ABBA’s hit songs by Benny Andersson and Björn Ulvaeus into a story written by Catherine Johnson (very loosely based on the film “Buona Serra, Mrs. Campbell”) about a bride who invites three of her mother’s former lovers to her wedding in hopes of identifying her biological father. Directed by the Public Theater’s associate artistic director, Saheem Ali, Shakespeare’s romantic comedy follows shipwrecked twins Sebastian and Viola (played by Lupita Nyong’o and her real-life brother, Junior Nyong’o) as they navigate mistaken identities, revenge plots, and the deceits of love.Through September 14. Ross encourages the audience “to bring friends that you care about, people that might be going through tough times,” promising “an evening of uncensored jokes, uplifting stories, songs and even some live roasting of the bravest volunteers.” (Nederlander Theatre) https:// jeffrossbroadway.com

Nets games at Rutgers, thought he was an usher. Albert obliged and escorted the gent to his seat and then claimed to have gotten a tip for his labor. Steve also broadcast the last season the Nets played at
the Nassau Coliseum.
Albert also had the challenging task of replacing Lindsey Nelson as a Mets broadcaster in 1979, The trio of Ralph Kiner, Bob Murphy, and Lindsey Nelson were the Mets broadcast team since the club’s inception in 1962. So, the scrutiny on Albert was intense. He spent only three years in Flushing, which was one of the worst periods in Mets history.
“I was too young for the job. Baseball requires storytelling and I did not have the experience or the knowledge to do that at the time. I would have been better off calling minor league games before coming to the Mets,” Steve candidly told me.

For The Bacon Brothers, music is all about exploration. Michael and Kevin Bacon have spent the better part of three decades creating their own mix of Folk, Rock, Soul, and Country music. They call that diverse sound “forosoco,” and it’s taken them around the world, from headlining gigs in Japan to American performances at iconic venues like Carnegie Hall, the Grand Ole Opry and Gruene Hall. The two siblings may be bound together by blood and a mutual love of American Roots music, but they’ve grown into sharp songwriters and cinematic storytellers with their own distinct approaches. Their album, Ballad Of The Brothers, makes room for both of those approaches, offering a mix of edgy Alt-Rock (“Take Off This Tattoo”), Motown-inspired Soul (“Put Your Hand Up”), fingerpicked Folk (“Let That Be Enough”), and everything in between.

The single, accompanied by its cinematic visual, marks the first look into Cash’s upcoming full-length album, Pineapple John, due September 12, 2025.
The official music video was directed by Joseph Cash and filmed at the historic Cash Cabin Studio.
Pineapple John is a cinematic concept album that tells the story of a life-worn singer-songwriter named Pineapple John. Produced by John Carter Cash and Trey Call, the record explores universal themes of love, loss, redemption, and self-discovery through vivid storytelling and rich sonic textures.
The album’s debut single, “Snow On The Sand,” features background vocals by Ana Cristina Cash and Caitlin Evanson. The track embodies the album’s emotional contrast, pairing poignant lyrics with evocative production that mirrors the warmth of the beach against the lingering chill of a past left behind.

Steve Porcaro—legendary songwriter, synth pioneer, and founding member of Toto—continues his highly anticipated return with his release of “Change,” the second single from his forthcoming solo album The Very Day, due October 3 on Green Hill Music. A hopeful, soaring meditation on how even small acts can help change the world, “Change” channels Porcaro’s signature blend of sophisticated pop textures and emotional clarity.
Co-written with Julius Robinson and the late Michael Sherwood, “Change” was originally written with Michael Jackson in mind. But as Porcaro returned to the song years later, he found it had taken on new meaning.
“This one’s been in the vault a long time,” says Porcaro. “I wrote it during a really charged moment in the world—and somehow, it feels just as relevant now. It’s not a protest song, exactly. It’s more about the little things we do for each other that can actually move the needle. I’ve always believed music has the power to remind us of that.”
NRBQ has announced a remixed and remastered reissue of their 1992 live album Honest Dollar, expanded with two previously unissued performances, out on September 5 via Omnivore Recordings.
Nearly a quarter century after bursting onto the scene in 1969 with their self-titled debut album, NRBQ delivered another patented mix of carefree musicianship and joyful spontaneity with 1992’s live Honest Dollar. (It’s been over 50 years now, and they’re still delivering!)
Honest Dollar gave listeners a special treat (and we’re not talking about the signed one-dollar bills the band inserted randomly into the copies of the original CD). Not only are there NRBQ classics like “Ridin’ In My Car” and “Wacky Tobacky,” but two “State” songs—“Deep In The Heart Of Texas” and Carl Perkins’ “Tennessee” (with new lyrics by Terry, added with Perkins’ consent.) And how about two distinct versions of “The Dummy Song,” which wouldn’t penetrate the public’s conscious until the 1998 film You’ve Got Mail. Plus the Lovin’ Spoonful’s “Amy’s Theme” with a guest appearance from John Sebastian himself. Add in rip-roaring versions of Little Richard’s “Lucille,” Len Barry’s “1-2-3,” and Neil Hefti’s “Batman Theme,”

38 Special, the classic southern rock band behind worldwide hits such as “Hold On Loosely” and “Caught Up In You,” have announced their new album Milestone out on September 19. Along with the announcement, 38 Special shared the lilting lead single, and accompanying music video, “All I Haven’t Said” which nods to the melodydriven bands that came before them.
38 Special’s ever relentless touring schedule continues throughout 2025 with dates across the US including shows with Kansas, Dave Mason, The Outlaws and Jefferson Starship.
This year marks the 40th anniversary of your alien overlords in GWAR, pioneers of shock rock who have redefined live performance with their over-the-top theatrics, grotesque costumes, and unapologetic depravity. What better way to celebrate four decades of intergalactic filth, fury, and fluid than by dragging humanity straight into the bowels of the Earth?
On August 22, “GWAR: Live From The Hellmouth” will stream exclusively on VEEPS, delivering a grotesque, one-night-only live performance from deep within the legendary Caverns in Pelham, TN. It’s shock rock history in a hole!
Broadcasting at 9:00 PM EST / 6:00 PM PST, the show captures GWAR in their natural element: underground, unhinged, and completely unfiltered. Expect blood, bile, body parts, and the kind of glorious depravity that’s made GWAR the most disgusting—and beloved—shock rock band on Earth.

Anthrax’s Charlie Benante and former Butcher Babies Carla Harvey have joined forces on The Violent Hour, a five-song EP project the two of them have conjured up that was released on July 25 (Megaforce Records). Carla wrote all lyrics, and of course handled all vocals, and Charlie wrote the music and played all instruments on the EP. But wait, there’s more: The track “Sick Ones” features an absolutely shredding guitar solo from John 5, and Zakk Wylde makes an explosive cameo on the track “Hell or Hollywood.” Carla is assembling her new band to take these songs on tour, so lots of fun is still ahead.
