A local resident submitted a request through GlendaleOne regarding the poor condition of the dirt road on Bethany Home Road between 99 and 107 Avenues In response, the Streets Team graded the road with a Gannon Tractor, first wetting the surface to minimize dust and loosen the soil for easier grading Great job, team!

58 Drive and West Gardenia Avenue
The City of Glendale Transportation Right-of-Way team partnered with a tree care company to trim the historic Elephant Tree, a recognized Great Tree of Arizona since 2004. Asphalt Projects

The Streets Team recently carried out asphalt repairs at several locations to address tripping hazards for pedestrians. 73 Avenue and Glendale Avenue
While they may not have been as persistent and heavy as years past, the monsoons kept our Right-of-Way team busy. Tree damage and remediation was one of the main responsibilities of the team and they responded quickly to an overturned tree that was blocking a sidewalk Thank you for keeping the city safe and looking nice!
Pavement Upgrade
Greenway Road and Judy Lynn Lane, from 69 Avenue to 71 Drive th st
Check out our latest road improvement project in the Sahuaro District between Greenway Road and Judy Lynn Lane, from 69 Avenue to 71 Drive Crews have been hard at work prepping the road using brooms along with street sweepers to clean the area of debris. After applying a crack sealant, Latex Modified Surface Seal (LMSS), a high-performance sealcoat that prevents damage from moisture and UV radiation, was applied in two coats over the top This process extends the pavement's service life by five to seven years, provides an aesthetically pleasing rich black color and reduces cleaning and maintenance costs
Division Highlights Special Event
State Farm Stadium
On Sunday, September 21, 2025, State Farm Stadium in Glendale hosted a celebration of life event The President and Vice President, along with other dignitaries, were in attendance The Transportation staff were notified of the event late on Monday, September 15, 2025 Staff had five full days to prepare for the event This included preparing plans for managing traffic during the event, staffing the event, and attending numerous internal and external meetings Unlike other events, parking at the stadium was limited as security measures were placed due to the president being in attendance, which made getting people to the event challenging While the Transportation System Management and Barricade Management team are no strangers to big events, having worked the Superbowl, the Final Four, Taylor Swift and other high-profile sporting and nonsporting events, this event came with little notice and not much time to prepare The plans were changing daily which made it difficult to carry out our work as scheduled
On Sunday, September 21, 2025, staff participated in the management of the event at the EOC, TMC and had boots on the ground Transportation staff worked alongside staff from the Glendale Police Department (GPD), the Glendale Fire Department (GFD), Emergency Management, the Secret Service, the Department of Public Safety and other groups at the EOC Staff worked the event starting at 4:00 AM and were there until 6:00 PM The event went off without a hitch thanks to the dedication of the staff
A special thank you goes out to Matt Smith and his staff at the Airport as well as Javier, Max, Victor, Gabriel and other Streets and Right of Way staff for their help leading up to the event and throughout the day of the event Thank you to the Transit Division staff as well, especially Nathan and Julie, for taking my calls and having staff ready to go when called upon The entire department came together to help make this event a success!

Pedestrian Safety Month
October is Pedestrian Safety Month, a good opportunity to increase safety messaging across all platforms At some point in the day, everyone is a pedestrian, which is why pedestrian safety is an essential part of every highway safety communications plan. 7,314 pedestrians were killed in traffic crashes in 2023, a 4% decrease from the 7,593 pedestrian fatalities in 2022.
Teen Driver Safety Week 10/19-25
A teen’s inexperience behind the wheel makes them more susceptible to crashes, so including teen safety messaging in a traffic safety communication plan is important. Specific risk factors for teens behind the wheel include: alcohol and drug use, not wearing a seat belt, distracted driving, additional passengers, speeding, and drowsy driving.
National School Bus Safety Week 10/20-24
A reminder, National School Bus Safety Week is October 20-24 — an opportunity to increase safety messaging. Millions of children across the nation ride on a school bus every day – that’s why school bus safety is important in every community.
