After that, they decided they wanted to raise their kids in Holly’s home town and establish themselves as local home builders in Port Macquarie. Through this, Drewe has brought his specialised construction skills to deliver great homes for residents of Port Macquarie. Hi Drewe and Holly, it’s been a whole year since you opened up GJ Gardner Port Macquarie, tell us what has the first year been like for you all? Our first year of business has been a good mix of exciting achievements and difficult challenges. The completion and opening of our display home in December last year has definitely been a highlight for us. With effortless connections throughout the home, the Samsara seamlessly flows between indoor and outdoor living spaces making the most of resort style living. We wanted to focus on building something we felt was suited to the local area, adding our own touches. A big part of our vision

was building a HOME rather than a house. We wanted to create something people walk into and instantly get a feel for home. Living coastal, with one of the best climates, it was important to create outdoor spaces that felt just as homely as the indoors. A central courtyard allows light and breezes to enter the home, providing a relaxed and comfortable environment while a covered alfresco extends the open plan living space outdoors for year-round entertaining. A spacious master suite is privately positioned to the front of home, complete with elegant ensuite and walk-in robe, while the kids’ zone to the rear has generous sized bedrooms, a family bathroom and an activity room or study. The separate lounge room provides a quiet space to relax and unwind while maintaining a strong connection to the main living areas and central courtyard. The build came together exactly as we envisioned, with the hard work of all the trades that worked on the build, and our suppliers

providing us with top quality materials, was a team effort that paid off perfectly. What is GJ’s point of difference? The team were motivated to be able to demonstrate to clients how they can make

more environmentally-conscious and affordable choices for their home. The floorplan has been designed by Fiona and is now incorporated into the National list of floorplans by Hotondo Homes. It has been designed to suit a corner block with the direction of the sun a big part of the overall layout. The interior has been designed by us all and all products purchased for the home come from local businesses. What are some of the key features? When you approach the home, there is a sign out the front to educate clients on energy and water saving products used in the home. You are then led up either a path or driveway made from our permeable grass and stones, which both work together to reduce concrete around homes and allow for better drainage. You then look up to a unique façade in which we have used blackbutt timber over other hardwoods because it is naturally termite resistant, and fire resistant. As you then enter the home via a large keyless entry door into the living and kitchen area with a beautiful timber look laminex wall of cupboards to hide away all your storage needs. The main bedroom is at the back with a modern ensuite, which has its own private garden area. The internal brick wall on the north side of the home naturally

heats up the home and works together with the polished concrete floor throughout the main areas. This allows it to absorb the sun which heats the floor throughout the day and returns the heat to the room during the evening. The other bedrooms and media room are located on the south side and have naturally harvested Cork Flooring. Laminex Recycled Denim Fibre is used on benchtops in the kitchen. Laminex Tinted Terrazzo Recycled Paper benchtops are used on the study desk. Recycled timber is attached to the stone benchtop in the kitchen. The outdoor area has a sustainable vegie garden, native bee hive and chook house. The pool shell is a recycled water tank. Reclaimed recycled wood has been used for the seats around the firepit.
