Care of cut flowers

All cut flowers need is a basic treatment

§ When you get in flowers inspect them on:

– freshness, diseases and damaged parts.

– unpack the flowers immediately.

§ Cut off the ends of the stems at an angle using a sharp knife. Advice = 3 - 5 cm

§ Carefully remove the lower leaves: no leaves in the water

§ Place the flowers in clean buckets or vases.

§ Clean buckets or vases with bleach or before use.

§ Use only clean and cold tap water.

§ Add cut flower food which is based on sugar and antibacteria (chlorus ).

§ Use the right concentration (1 litre = for 1 litre)

§ 90 % of the flowers can be stored in a cool place 4 ° C, preferably in refrigeration.

Vase life: 100 % open of the flower

8 Care and handling tips cut flowers

1. Use clean vases and buckets

2. Use clean water from the tap

Wet or dry?

Guttation = sweating / dripping

§ Guttation is the phenomenon that plants 'sweat out' moisture with dissolved substances in it.

§ Guttation

§ Expression: drops at the end of leaves

§

§ Cause: roots absorb water and minerals from the soil. When absorption and evaporation are not in balance, plant begins to sweat.

§ មូលេហតុ៖

§ Not harmful to the plants

§

§ Sometimes occurs when transporting in boxes

§

§ Solution: Water less

§ Plant: many plants from the Araceae: §

– But also: Musa

Care tips Phalaenopsis

§ This orchid plant like some care to bloom as long as possible. These are our tips:

• The Phalaenopsis likes a place in a spot where there is sufficient light, but avoid direct sunlight.

• Give water onto the soil in the pot, and not into the heart of the plant. Even better is to immerse the pot in a bucket for a minute. Allow the plant to drain thoroughly after immersing - this will allow the excess water to run off. The orchid can then easily go 5-7 days without water.

• Feed the plant about twice a month with special orchid food in the water.

• Phalaenopsis can grow aerial roots outside the pot. Leave these roots in place: They are a sign the plant is happy.

• Like to have new flowers in your plant again? After pruning the stems in 10-15 cm, place the plant in a little bit cooler spot. The ‘cooling’ will encourage the formation of new branches. After about two months the plant can be returned to its old place. After pruning give the plant less water. When the plant is returned to its old spot after about two months, you can return to normal watering. The plant can flower again after six months.
