Greetings and best wishes to all our guests, friends, loyal supporters, advertisers, newcomers, officers and members of the different Filipino-American associations, the young generations and of course, the FAABCI family. On behalf of the Filipino-American Association of Bucks County, Inc. it is a pleasure and privilege to welcome you to our 40th Pasko sa Nayon (Ruby Anniversary). This event is very meaningful as it marks our 40th Anniversary of our association and its celebration coincides with the greatest celebration of mankind: the anniversary of the birth of Jesus Christ. Tonight the FAABCI and all of you as a group of people coming together not only in this social activity but more to share blessings and manifest a feeling of belonging to all the members and guests for a noble purpose. Indeed the past years have seen very remarkable and fruitful outcome with the cheerfulness and willingness of our officers and members to help and be of service despite the hectic schedule at home and at work; and to our supporters despite the financial difficulties you are here to support a worthy cause. I am deeply grateful for your commitment and involvement, you have made the FAABCI an organization we are all proud of. FAABCI has been active in our community and also helping our country of birth: the Philippines especially in time of calamities. Indeed last November 22, we have a fund raiser organized by Rhodessa “Apple” Abarintos Seda and husband Nelson at the St. Ephrem Parish Hallin Bensalem and we are very proud of her. Apple is the daughter of our past president Rudy Abarintos. That night we raised $11,700 to help our kababayans who are victims of the most devastating and worst typhoon ever. $8,000 was endorsed to the FECP to be given to the Catholic Relief Services; $2,000 for the Pearl S. Buck International for the sponsored kids whose families were affected in Tacloban City. We also gave to our 3 members whose families were affected: Greg, Rudy and Ramon, and to my coworker whose family was hit by the earthquake in Cebu and Bohol. We also donated $1,000 to GMA and $1,000 to our members from our own fund. Of course we have more projects this year we are increasing our children with Pearl S. Buck International to 8; costing us $2,400. Last summer we attended the Pearl S. Buck International “Taste of the World” event to support their fund-raising; we pledge for the improvement of the Pearl S. Buck House. We also sponsored 65 grade schoolers for their school needs in my hometown. My special thanks and gratitude to all the officers specially our past presidents (whom I am presenting tonight) and all the members for your dedication and hardwork. Leading the FAABCI has been the most gratifying experience because of the many worthwhile projects we supported. With your guidance, I remained your President for the last 6 years. Thanks to my family, my children, my husband Jay for his patience and devotion. Again I thank you all you’re your faithful support. Enjoy and Maraming Salamat and have a Blessed Christmas to all. Christmas this year will be different for all of us. While we have joyfully immersed ourselves with the festive atmosphere of the holidays; we cannot help but think of our unfortunate countrymen back in the Philippines who were hard hit by the most cruel typhoon in our history. Because of this, I am sure that we will all be a little somber if only to remind us life is always full of unexpected emergencies and also opportunities. Indeed it was an opportunity to help and to serve. Maraming salamat sa inyo FAABCI for leading the way in the giving towards the calamity. Your fund raiser at your local church is indeed very heart-warming; as I walked a greeted people when I attended your event. Your significant contribution of $11,000 is a great help to those in need back home. To Rhodessa Abarintos, I am deeply grateful and I am sure the same feeling is shared by everybody in the Council. Your father, the late Rudy Abarintos who served as past VP of the Executive Council; I am sure is very proud. So is your Mom and your whole family.

From the Editor The Christmas Season is here. We are all very busy decorating our homes, buying gifts for our loved ones and sending off cards and packages. In the midst of what sometimes can be a hectic time of the year, we have to make a conscious effort to stop and to take time to reflect on what something special we could do for others to make the season bright ... people who do not know us and are not able to repay us. This is one aspect of what LOVE for our neighbor entails. The Filipino-American Association of Bucks County Inc. (FAABCI) is actually doing just that on behalf of all the six sponsored children back home through the Pearl S. Buck Foundation (PSBF). The annual "Pasko Sa Nayon" event greatly helps in making this humanitarian effort get accomplished. Your continuing support through your presence in this special occasion makes these children look forward to their life with hope. “A Determined Girl with a Thankful Heart”

Joemarie Tanglao is one of Pearl S. Buck Foundation’s sponsored children in Pampanga. Her parents, Joel and Marissa, were among the Aeta people (indigenous group) that survived the Mount Pinatubo Eruption in 1991. They were relocated by the Philippine Government from the Negritos Village in Clark to the Madapdap Resettlement Area in Mabalacat. Joemarie is the eldest of 6 children. She was in Grade 3 at the Dapdap Elementary School when she became a Championed Child of the Pearl S. Buck Foundation. At that time, her mother Marissa was just a plain housewife while her father Joel was merely a flute-maker that earned around USD 3 per day. Making flutes is not a stable source of income since sales depend on presence of tourists in the area. Joel and Marissa have always been hardworking and family-oriented. They are eager to give their children a better future. When Joemarie was in Grade 5, she became unassigned. Fortunately, generous individuals from the FilipinoAmerican Association of Bucks County, Inc. (FAABCI) in Pennsylvania have decided to continue the sponsorship support to Joemarie until she completed her secon-
dary education. Joemarie is a god-fearing and responsible daughter. She loves her parents very much. Having learned about her perseverance and determination to help her family, a good-hearted Filipino couple in Pennsylvania has volunteered to finance Joemarie’s tertiary level education. She enrolled in a two-year Information Technology course at the Clark International College in Dau, Mabalacat, Pampanga. The said couple has given her financial assistance for her tuition and other school expenses. The good couple also took time to visit Joemarie whenever they were in the Philippines for a short vacation. They were very concerned on her academic progress and other needs. They gave Joemarie cash and in-kind gifts during such visits. Last March 2013, Joemarie has graduated with a diploma in Information Technology. She is currently working as a Production Operator at the Texas Instruments in Clark. She reports in the said company 6 days a week and earns Php260 (USD 6) per day. Around 60% of her income goes to her mother Marissa to pay for basic needs of the family. The remainder is used by Joemarie for everyday allowance. Despite of Joemarie's busy schedule, she remains active in their church, the First Madapdap Christian Church, where she serves as a Sunday School Teacher and inspires other poor children in the community. She is very thankful to everyone especially to her sponsors and the Pearl S. Buck Foundation for all the love and support.
