"Your Eyes Deserve Better: The Truth About UV and Polarised Protection”

As the sun begins to shine brighter over the Costa Blanca, it's tempting to grab any pair of sunglasses and head outdoors. But did you know that low quality sunglasses can actually do more harm than good? At Seepoint Ópticas in Jávea, we're passionate about eye health – and that starts with proper protection from UV. Your eyes, like your skin, are vulnerable to damage from ultraviolet light. Prolonged exposure to UV rays can increase the risk of serious eye conditions such as cataracts, macular degeneration, and even cancer of the eyelids. Good quality sunglasses, with full UV400 protection, block 100% of UVA and UVB rays, helping to preserve your vision and overall eye health. What many people don't realise is that wearing no sunglasses is actually safer than wearing poor-quality ones. Dark lenses without adequate UV protection cause the pupils to dilate, allowing more harmful rays to enter the eye. This increases the risk of long-term damage and makes budget sunglasses a dangerous choice.

At Seepoint Ópticas, we offer a carefully selected range of sunglasses that combine style with superior eye protection.

Why Choose Polarised?

In addition to enhancing comfort, polarised lenses also improve safety and performance. For drivers, they provide clearer vision by reducing the blinding glare from wet roads or car bonnets. For outdoor sports enthusiasts, such as golfers or anglers, they enhance contrast and depth perception, making it easier to spot subtle details – like the contours of a golf green or movement beneath the surface of the water. By cutting through glare and sharpening vision, polarised sunglasses help you stay focused, perform better, and protect your eyes at the same time – no matter the conditions.

Investing in quality eyewear is an investment in your future. Don't risk your vision with bad quality sunglasses – come and visit us at Seepoint Ópticas, Jávea, where professional care meets premium eye protection, expert advice, and a stylish range of frames.

Protect your eyes. See the difference with Seepoint.

This month the schools break up so we must all get ready to share our piece of paradise with holiday makers for the summer months. How lucky are we to be able to spend the whole year here when others work all year to pay a lot of money to visit for a week or two. I know parking is going to be difficult and your favourite restaurant is going to be booked up but, breathe, leave earlier if you need to get to an appointment and get on the phone now and pre-book for the next two months if you need a roast out each Sunday.

Barcelona was fantastic, we had a lovely mother / daughter time. Apart from doing the usual sightseeing to the Sagrada Familia, various Gaudi houses etc, we ate the best cupcakes we have ever eaten, and found a beautiful book shop which is always a bonus for us, but scares our husbands. As I write we are about to go to Madrid and I am sure that will be just as good. The diary is filling up for the next couple of months including some local live music events, a couple of concerts close by and a zombie survival night in Ondara with the granddaughter and daughter. I know I sound like a stuck record, but how lucky are we to have so much going on in such a great part of the world. Until next time, take care and be kind.

Echoes in the Earth:

Costa Blanca Male Voice Choir's Unique Cave Concerts

Prepare for an unforgettable auditory experience as the esteemed Costa Blanca Male Voice Choir presents its highly anticipated "Cave Concerts" on Friday, June 13th, and Saturday, June 14th, 2025. This unique event promises to blend the power and harmony of male voices with the natural acoustics of a stunning cave setting, creating a truly magical atmosphere.

Imagine the rich baritones, basses and soaring tenors resonating through the ancient rock formation of the entrance to the Cuevas de las Calaveras in Benidoleig sculpted over millennia. Caves possess an inherent acoustic quality, amplifying and enriching vocal performances due to their enclosed spaces and unique shapes. This natural reverberation adds a breathtaking dimension to the choir's diverse repertoire, which ranges from classical and sacred pieces to popular and musical theatre numbers.

These concerts offer more than just a musical performance; they provide an opportunity to connect with both the artistry of the choir and the awe-inspiring beauty of the natural world. The Costa Blanca region, known for its stunning coastline and picturesque towns, also harbours hidden geological gems, and experiencing music within one of these caves will undoubtedly be a highlight of the cultural calendar.

Tickets by donation for these extraordinary evenings are available for €15 and are expected to be in high demand. Don't miss this chance to witness the Costa Blanca Male Voice Choir in a setting unlike any other, where the echoes of voices and the whispers of the earth combine for a truly memorable occasion. VENUS AND TRITON AND THEIR STRANGE WAYS

That sounds like the title of a really bad B movie from the 1950s but these two are not fictional and really do move in strange ways.

I've written many times about how the solar system we see is the result of order coming from chaos, and the fundamental force (that gave us not only our Sun, planets, and the whole universe) is gravity. Last month I explained why everything in the universe spins and that in our solar system every planet and moon spins the same way. I lied, quite deliberately to keep things simple, so now I'll try and sort that out. There are lots of little rocks etc floating around in space that spin wherever chance takes them after hitting each other, but there are two big things that are really odd and seem to break the rules, the planet Venus and Neptune's biggest moon, Triton. Every moon that orbits a planet goes around in the same direction that the planet spins, that's the way planetary physics works, except that Triton doesn't, it orbits in the opposite direction, the only moon to do so. So why does it do that, is Physics wrong? Neptune is the furthest planet from the Sun, it's also the nearest planet to a vast area called the Kuiper belt, a place in space where lots of minor planets like Pluto, Makemake and many others orbit. We think that aeons ago there was a collision that sent a minor planet inwards and it got caught by Neptune's gravity but at an angle that made it circle in the wrong direction. As you would expect, this isn't a stable situation and in millions of years gravity will probably break Triton up and there might be a new ringed planet in the solar system, you can't beat physics!

Now for Venus, the nearest planet to Earth (sort of), this is a very strange place. Firstly all the other planets spin in a clockwise direction, Venus in an anticlockwise direction. Next, it does this very slowly, Earth takes 24 hours to spin once, that's our day. Venus takes 243 Earth days to spin once, that's a very long day. Couple with this that it takes 225 Earth days to circle the Sun, one Venusian year.

The strange result of this is that a Venusian day lasts longer than a Venusian year, and the Sun will rise in the west and set in the east, an odd place isn't it?

Why is Venus like this? The truth is that we aren't sure, but like so many other planets and moons, it was probably hit by something else in the very early history of the solar system, and this collision actually turned the planet upside down. If this is correct Venus used to spin the same way as the other planets but as one professor put it, 'Venus is arse upwards!'

That's all for now, next month I'll tell you how you should be pronouncing Uranus, and why that's another strange place.

Latest Developments in Tourist Rental Regulations in Jávea and Dénia

Temporary suspensions and upcoming changes for holiday lets in the Marina Alta Tourist rentals have long played a significant role in the economy of the Marina Alta region, particularly in popular destinations such as Jávea and Dénia. However, the rapid growth of this sector in recent years has led local authorities to take decisive steps aimed at curbing uncontrolled expansion and mitigating its effects on housing availability, neighbourhood dynamics, and urban planning.

In Jávea, the Town Hall implemented a temporary suspension in September 2024 on the issuance of urban compatibility certificates required to register properties for tourist rental purposes. This moratorium initially applied for six months and covered the entire municipal area - not just the historic centre or urban zones. Recently, this suspension has been extended by an additional six months, pushing the restriction through to September 2025.

What does this mean for property owners?

During this period, no new tourist rental licences can be initiated, as the compatibility certificate is a mandatory first step in the process. The local government’s intention is to use this time to develop a specific regulatory framework for tourist accommodation that aligns with urban planning goals and community interests. Once this new regulation is in place, it is expected to include more detailed criteria to assess where and under what conditions holiday rentals can be authorised. Meanwhile, in Dénia, a similar approach has been adopted. On 29 August 2024, the local council passed a resolution to suspend the issuance of tourist-related permits, including urban compatibility certificates, licences, and responsible declarations.

This measure was officially published in the Diari Oficial de la Generalitat Valenciana on 10 September 2024. Unlike Jávea, the suspension in Dénia is limited to specific zones - mainly within the urban core - and will last one year, with a possibility for further extension.

The affected areas, clearly outlined in the official map accompanying the resolution, include well-known neighbourhoods such as Dalt Dénia, Baix la Mar, Marqués de Campo, Saladar, París, and others. These are districts where the concentration of tourist rentals has raised concerns about affordability for long-term residents, noise issues, and pressure on local infrastructure.

The primary reason behind both suspensions is the lack of specific provisions for tourist rentals in the existing urban planning regulations. By pausing new registrations, both municipalities aim to reevaluate how and where tourist accommodation should be integrated into the urban fabric, with an emphasis on sustainable development, protection of heritage areas, and coexistence between residents and visitors. For property owners and investors, these changes signal a shift toward greater scrutiny and regulation of holiday lets. Anyone considering entering the market or adapting an existing property for tourist use should stay informed of upcoming legislative developments and consult legal professionals for tailored advice.

While these moratoriums may cause temporary delays, they are part of a broader effort to ensure that tourist activity remains compatible with the long-term wellbeing of the towns and their residents.

Discover Starkey's Edge, smart hearing without the hassle.

Following a conversation in a busy café. Hearing the birds singing again. Being able to hear your grandchild laugh without having to ask ‘what are you saying?’ For many people with hearing loss, this is not something that comes naturally. Fortunately, hearing aids have long since ceased to be unwieldy devices - and certainly not Starkey's new Edge.

The Edge is an intelligent hearing aid with an impressive range of features. Most importantly, however, it makes life easier. There are no complicated hassles or crazy buttons. Thanks to artificial intelligence, the device automatically adapts to your surroundings. Sitting in a noisy restaurant? The Edge recognises this and prioritises your conversation partner. Need to hear better quickly? Just tap your ear and Edge Mode will activate.

Another great feature is that this device is rechargeable thanks to the industry-leading rechargeable hearing aids, which last for up to 51 hours. It is also compact, discreet and comfortable to wear. After a few days, you probably won't even notice you're wearing it - and neither will anyone else. But what makes it even better? The Edge can stream music and phone calls wirelessly from your smartphone. It even has fall detection, which can notify a contact if you fall. It's both convenient and reassuring.

“I had tried several hearing aids before, but this one really feels like an extension of myself,” says Alan, 78, from Jávea. 'I can hear everything around me again without having to think about buttons or settings. My wife no longer has to shout “Alan!” three times before I respond.” That's exactly what it's all about: participating fully again.

Are you wondering if the Edge is right for you? Come in for a free hearing test and try it out. There are no obligations, but you'll experience the difference that good hearing can make.

Just in case we have another electric Outage…

Best advice in case of another electric outage is to unplug all unnecessary electric equipment. Out of experience we know that when the power is coming back it is too damaging for your IT devices. Another good option in general is to have an UPS (Uninterrupted Power Supply) which protects all your devices from power spikes and outages, and acts like a shock absorber when the power returns. A Natural Lift Without Surgery: APTOS Threads Explained.

APTOS threads are an innovative, minimally invasive aesthetic medicine technique used to rejuvenate and tighten the skin without the need for surgery. The name APTOS comes from “Anti-Ptosis,” meaning “against sagging,” and refers to the primary goal of lifting and redefining facial and body tissues that have lost firmness over time.

These threads are made from biocompatible and resorbable materials, such as polylactic acid or caprolactone, which not only provide an immediate lifting effect but also stimulate the natural production of collagen and elastin—two essential components for youthful skin.

How do APTOS threads work?

The procedure involves inserting the threads under the skin using a fine needle or cannula. Depending on the type of thread used (smooth or barbed), they anchor into the subcutaneous tissue and allow the sagging skin to be repositioned naturally.

The lifting effect is visible immediately, but the most interesting part is that over time, the body reacts by producing new collagen around the thread, which gradually improves the firmness, texture, and elasticity of the skin.

Benefits of APTOS threads

Non-surgical lifting: Natural results with no scarring or long recovery times.

Progressive rejuvenation: Collagen production improves skin quality in the medium and long term.

Quick and safe procedure: Typically performed in under an hour with local anesthesia.

Versatility: Can be applied to the face, neck, and décolletage.

Long-lasting results: Effects can last between 12 and 24 months.

Dentures, whether partial or full, serve more than just the purpose of replacing missing teeth. They can significantly boost self-confidence in several ways: With our skilled cosmetic dentist, your new dentures can be crafted to look indistinguishable from natural teeth. A beautiful smile not only enhances your appearance but also contributes to self-assurance.

Improved Speech: Missing teeth can make it challenging to speak clearly. Dentures fill those gaps, allowing you to articulate better. Although it takes time to adjust, practicing pronunciation in front of a mirror helps.

Normal Eating: Eating favourite foods becomes difficult or painful with missing, broken, or damaged teeth. Dentures restore your ability to eat comfortably, making mealtime enjoyable again.

Healthier Mouth: Beyond aesthetics, dentures prevent further bone loss in your jaw, promoting overall oral health. Missing teeth impact not only your smile but also your jawbone and facial structure.

Youthful Appearance: Sagging skin due to missing teeth can contribute to wrinkles around the jawline. Dentures help fill in the contours, reducing signs of aging and enhancing your smile.

Enhanced Relationships: Clear communication and a healthy smile attract people. Dentures enable both, fostering better relationships.

The Story Behind SIBLINGS:

A Personal Journey Through Adoption

I was born in Devon and adopted nine days later by a warm, loving family in Bristol. I had a happy childhood, but always felt a quiet pull to understand where I came from. Out of love and respect for my adoptive parents, I kept that longing to myself until after they passed - I never wanted them to feel anything but cherished.

Years later, after a long and sometimes difficult search, I found more than I ever imagined... my birth mother, who told me she had always loved me, and three full sisters I never knew I had. That quiet, life-changing connection became the emotional heart of my SIBLINGS books.

It’s taken almost a decade to feel truly ready to share this story. For years, I carried it quietly, knowing it was too raw, too close. I needed time to reflect, to process, to find the courage to shape it into fiction. In the meantime, I wrote other novels, but this series is by far the most personal work I’ve done. When the moment came, I didn’t question it. I just knew - it was time.

Emma’s Story, the latest book, explores adoption through an insider’s lens - themes of identity, belonging, loss, and reconnection. Though the characters are fictional, the emotional truths are very real.

Each SIBLINGS novel stands alone, with overlapping characters and storylines. You don’t need to have read Kit’s Story (available online) to enjoy Emma’s Story. I’m still working on the seriesthere’s one more SIBLINGS book to come.

At a recent library event, a grandfather told me how much the books had helped him understand his adopted grandchildren. That really touched me, because that’s exactly why I’m writing SIBLINGS. Emma’s Story launches 28 June. Just search Hilary Coombes SIBLINGS on Amazon. More at www.hilarycoombes.com, or email me at hilarycoombes.author@gmail.com.

Balancing Costs

When we go to a large garden to quote for artificial grass, I know some of these clients are left in a real quandary and that is simply to do with layout cost. This is mostly down to the fact that when we have to remove existing turf and soil from a garden it adds a cost to the project. This is why I try and get my message to clients as early as possible.

If you are reading this now and you are currently building and or reforming a house, now is the time to make the smart move and choose artificial grass, come and speak to us, as believe me I have seen so many times over and over where clients with new houses choose natural grass and it's always such a massive let down and for so many reasons. One of the biggest reasons is no matter what your builder or gardening company will tell you, the vast majority of them will not prep the ground correctly and that means ultimately, a failed lawn. If they do prep the ground properly then you automatically push the price closer to artificial grass costs anyway and that’s before the ongoing maintenance costs of a natural lawn. The list of failures goes on, and this brings us back around to what I started with. Because these lawns fail, ultimately a lot of people want to change them for artificial grass, the problem being now it means an increased cost as we have to move tonnes of old grass and soil and remove it from a clean site, deal with irrigation systems that will no longer be required and especially when you are talking about large areas this cost can add up.

But if you tally up what a natural lawn is costing you, in terms of water cost, electric cost (if you have pumped irrigation systems), maintenance costs, the gardener, fuel or electric lawn mower, then the cost to pay for a new artificial lawn will quickly be absorbed. I had a client recently who had diligently done the maths on his 200m² lawn and based off our quote and other quotes, he realised that he can effectively pay of the cost of the new artificial lawn in just over 1 year, and this was a lawn with a full removal of the existing natural grass also. This may obviously vary client to client, town to town, but generally I have found that the cost can be annulled within the first 2 years. If you are putting in artificial grass from the start, then this cost will be even lower and therefore annulled even quicker. Now these clients of ours are enjoying beautiful green lawns that are flat and not bumpy, are comfy to walk and lay on and they know within a year or so, they aren’t costing a penny versus a natural lawn. So again, if you are building or developing a property now. Be smart and contact the artificial grass company who knows what the sensible option is. Artificial Grass Spain. Serving the Costa Blanca and afar for 20 years of artificial grass Installation.

It might seem a little early to be thinking about Christmas, but the organisers of the Salones Carrasco Christmas Fayres in Jávea have been planning the two 2025 fayres since before the 2024 fayres were over!

The fayres are run solely to benefit the Charity The Friends of The Children of EMAUS, which supports around 100 children in care in our region. Last year, the fayres raised over 6600€ for the charity, an increase of 2000€ on the previous year. But they want to raise even more, moving forward.

The two fayres, held this year on Sunday 2nd and Sunday 23rd November, have no availability for stallholders inside the venue, but there's still some spaces left on the outside terrace. With pretty much everything you can think of covered by the 90 plus stallholders, the organisers tell us that they are always looking for stallholders selling something different each year. If that's you, please get on touch.

This year, they welcome back Turner Insurance, Jávea, as sponsor and long time supporter of these events. Relocation agents and translators, Scorchio, are in their second year of sponsorship. Newcomers are Lumon of Jávea, currency exchange services, and Mariposa Energia for your solar panel needs.

These sponsors are vital to contributing to venue, printing and advertising costs and their collaboration is greatly appreciated.

Ale Hop are now in their 3rd year of providing the 2000 paper shopping bags. Each adult receives a shopping bag at the entrance to the fayre, in exchange for their 1€ entry.

Anyone wishing to sponsor the events, attend as a stallholder, donate a gift card, alcohol, savoury or sweet non perishable foods for the hamper raffle, please contact the organisers at chrissyfayrejavea@gmail.com.

Please save 2nd and 23rd of November dates to your calendar. Doors open 11am until 5pm, last entry at 4pm.

Don’t forget to follow the fayres on Facebook and Instagram.

Look out in our October edition, when we will let you know just what to expect from the fayres by way of gifts available to buy, raffle news, the visit from Santa and his elves, and the schedule of entertainment throughout the day.

On Friday the 16th May Teulada Moraira Lions had a busy but fantastic afternoon at Cap D,Or school, Moraira. We had provided most of the funds to equip the school playground with table tennis tables, games tables and a new climbing wall to entertain the children. A total of 7500€ plus 500€ prize money was donated.

The children had been asked what they needed in their playground to make it more fun, educational, interesting yet fun, and the Lions were very proud and privileged to support the children’s scheme. What fun both we and the children had!

Due to privacy and security issues we are not able to show many photos of the children, but the whole school celebrated in style and had a wonderful time. It’s such a shame I’m not allowed to display the fun, but if you can image 'Britain's Got Talent' and the golden buzzer celebrations, this analogy isn’t far from what happened!

The teachers had decorated the play ground area with balloons and streamers, complete with red ribbon areas which were ceremoniously cut by the children and Lions members to open up the new play areas.

All teachers had party poppers which when exploded, covered the area and children with silver foil shapes and streamers, it was glorious pandemonium.

The teachers had worked with all the school children and prepared a special song about the Lions, so everyone danced and sang in unison in the playground to thank us for the new equipment. It was a fun, happy and exciting party. Even the 3 year olds were included - right up to the older children (11 years), and as Lions we all learnt some new dance steps as we tried to join in with the festivities.

The Teulada Moraira Lions have developed a close and ongoing relationship with this special school. The teachers and staff are all amazing, and so dedicated to making the leaning process fun and easy. Thank you Cap D’Or school for making our Lions afternoon at the school so special and memorable. We look forward to our next assignment together.

Set Sail with Confidence: Generali Expatriates

Boat Insurance Has You Covered

Whether it’s your full-time residence or a beloved getaway, Spain’s Mediterranean coast has become a second home to many expats. For boating enthusiasts, it’s a true paradise: year-round sunshine, crystal-clear waters, and perfect conditions for heading out to sea. But owning a boat or yacht isn’t just about enjoyment – it also means taking care of the practicalities. If you’re preparing to start the new season on the right foot, it’s not only the engine and equipment that matter – having the right insurance in place is just as important.

After a long winter in storage, your boat is probably ready to be brought back to life. With the good weather now here, it’s time to enjoy the freedom of the open water. A thorough clean and check-up, and you’re ready to rediscover the joy of being back on the waves, doing what you love most.

Even when you’ve taken care of all the physical preparations, it’s easy to overlook the unpredictable – the accidents or issues that can arise while out at sea. Whether you have a dinghy, a jet ski or a luxury yacht, it’s not just the hull and engine that need protection – you do too.

Boating is full of variables, and the unexpected can happen at any time. That’s why having the right insurance from a trusted provider is essential. With Generali Expatriates, you’ll find a policy that goes far beyond basic third-party liability.

Generali Expatriates’ yacht and boat insurance offers a comprehensive range of benefits, including:

• Damage to your own vessel, including theft – covering tenders, special accessories, personal belongings, and wreck removal

• Nautical assistance for the boat and its occupants

• Legal assistance

• Extended third-party liability, including:

– Voluntary civil liability

– Environmental pollution damage

– Participation in coastal regattas

• Protection when the boat is moored or stored on land

And that’s not all – the policy also includes accident cover. Should the worst happen, it provides compensation for death, permanent disability, and injuries to passengers caused by accidents, whether on board or during boarding and disembarkation – including medical expenses.

You can also choose to insure your vessel under the traditional Institute Yacht Clauses, for that extra layer of reassurance.

Whether it’s for your car, home, life, pets, business, accidents – or your boat – Generali Expatriates is the #1 preferred expat insurer in Spain.

With a network of over 200 brokers and agents, you can get advice in your own language.

Hydrofacial isn’t just a treatment –it’s your skin’s summer revival

If your skin is feeling dull, tired, or stressed from the sun, it’s time to experience the deep-cleansing, rejuvenating power of Hydrofacial - now available at Salon Mimis Kru in Jávea, performed by skincare specialist Shari Laisa.

With over eight years of experience in professional skincare, Shari combines her expert knowledge with cutting-edge beauty technology to deliver visible, radiant results. Her Hydrofacial treatment uses a unique combination of water pressure, vacuum suction, and nourishing active ingredients to deeply cleanse, exfoliate, and hydrate the skin - making it suitable for all skin types, from young and acneprone to mature and sensitive.

What makes Hydrofacial different?

The treatment begins with a gentle but thorough exfoliation under water pressure, which removes dead skin cells, sebum, and toxins from the pores. The result: a visibly fresher, plumper, and smoother complexion.

Perfect for treating:

- Acne and blemishes

- Fine lines, wrinkles, and sun damage

- Oily and congested skin

- Dry or dull complexions

Let the Shows Begin

With the weeks of practice behind them The Entertainers took the opportunity presented at Pete Cleary’s 60th birthday to try out some of their new songs to a live audience. Yes, it is true Pete, the star of Dominik the Donkey at The Entertainers Christmas shows in the village squares, has reached the age of “maturity” – I can’t wait to hear his song choice next Christmas!!!

But back to the point - after many weeks of practice their 25 new songs for 2025 have been perfected, new dances choreographed and rehearsed. So, The Entertainers were determined not to let the opportunity pass to perform three of their new songs, with some favourites from last year.

The three songs we were offered, Don’t bring me down, Have you ever seen the rain, and Flowers, showed that all the practice had been worth it and promised wonderful evenings of superb songs and dance under the setting sun. They included also Hit the road Jack and Humans to remind us of the good times last year.

With the promise of more new songs, and many good oldies from previous years, we can look forward to some fun evenings in the near future. Pease contact the charities organising their programme for June, so that you don’t miss out.

11th June -MABS Summer Show at Los Arcos

19th June – U3A Vall del Pop Garden Party at Los Arcos 27th June – Gandia Social Club Summer Party.

Demonstrating their commitment to the local community, Jávea Lodge No. 40 has presented a cheque for €3,000 to the Asociación Autismo de Jávea at a dinner for the charity Todos Juntos Jávea.

Walk Your Way Well with

Walking Through the Digital Overwhelm

In today’s hyperconnected world, many of us are feeling the effects of digital overwhelm. We’re spending hours each day staring at screens-scrolling, swiping, responding-while our bodies sit still and our minds become scattered. We’re losing precious time, clarity, and often, our sense of self. But there’s a powerful, simple antidote: walking in nature.

Walking reconnects us with our natural rhythm. Each step grounds us. Each breath outdoors reminds us we are alive, not just online. In nature, we remember how to be present. There are no notifications demanding our attention- just the sound of birds, the rustle of leaves, the crunch of gravel underfoot.

Be Part of

Science backs this up: walking lowers stress, boosts mood, sharpens thinking, and improves creativity. When we move our bodies, our thoughts begin to flow more freely. Ideas surface. Decisions become clearer. It’s a reset button-physically, emotionally, and mentally.

And when walking is paired with coaching, it becomes a powerful tool for change. Whether you’re chasing a dream, stuck in indecision, or seeking a sense of direction, walk coaching offers gentle movement, meaningful conversation, and space to reconnect with your purpose.

It’s time to step away from the screen and back into yourself.

Iberian reenactments and Arts and

Crafts at the Olocau Iberfesta

Fancy a weekend away. Olocau is a small village in the Valencia area that boasts an interesting Iberian archeological site. It celebrates its latest edition of Iberfesta from June 6th to 8th. This established event revolves around Iberian culture and features historical reenactments, military parades, guided tours of the Puntal dels Llops site and the Museum Collection, and educational workshops. For the third consecutive year it includes an authentic Arts and Crafts Fair organised by craft association Amata.

The fair is set up in the main street (Calle Mayor) and brings together more than 30 stalls, including professional artisans, local creators, local associations, and tourist information stalls from other towns with Iberian sites. Participating artisans come dressed in Iberian-inspired clothing, creating a coherent atmosphere with the rest of the event's activities.

It is a fair of unique pieces, made entirely by hand, reflecting both the traditional craft and the personal creativity of each designer. Whether you're looking for a gift for your aunt or your children, to treat yourself, or to decorate your home, you're sure to find something original: jewellery made of various materials, ceramics, beautiful horn combs, socarrats (traditional Valencian hand painted tiles), cloth or leather bags, lamps made from pumpkins or pine cones, wooden toys, and much more!

Amata also offers several craft demonstrations each day, allowing the public to learn about the production process of various products firsthand. A tavern area is also available for visitors to refresh and relax in a themed setting.

The fair will be open to the public at the following times:

Friday from 7 - 10pm; Saturday from 11am - 2pm and from 6pm - 10pm and on Sunday from 11am - 3pm.

The full programme can be found at www.puebloartesano.es/olocau.

The concert at the Jávea Golf Club opened with a rousing welcome by choir member David Bous, leading ‘Willkommen’ from Cabaret and starting the journey in Germany. The first half of the programme included songs from Fiddler on the Roof, The Lion King, Chess and Miss Saigon. A trio of ladies visited Scotland with the beautiful ballad ‘Sunshine on Leith’, accompanist Kirsty Glen performed a delightful piano solo ‘Over the Rainbow’ from the Wizard of Oz and a barbershop trio, led by the choir’s Musical Director John Oliver Edwards, harmonised ‘When you wish upon a star’ from Pinocchio. Another trio of ladies, suitably dressed ‘Japanese style’, performed Gilbert and Sullivan’s ‘Three Little Maids from School’ and the first half finished with the fast and furious ‘Time Warp’ from The Rocky Horror Show.

After the interval the journey continued with the atmospheric ‘Shakalaka Baby’ from Bombay Dreams, a visit to the races with ‘Ascot Gavotte’ from My Fair Lady, the stirring ‘Do you hear the people sing’ from Les Miserables and songs from The Man of La Mancha, Kismet, Evita and The King and I. The rousing finale was a medley of songs from The Sound of Music, with a hilarious appearance during ‘The Lonely Goatherd’ of two string puppet goats, their human operators suitably clad in lederhosen.

The International Choir, which is a member of the Amateur Music Group Association, will be opening the Moors and Christians Festival in Moraira church on June 9, start time 8pm, free entry with a retiring collection for our chosen charities Project4All and The Alzheimer's day Centre in Teulada. Meanwhile, you can visit their website www.theenglishchoirteulada.com (now renamed The International Choir) to see videos of this and previous concerts and for more detail on how to join the choir.

U3A CALPE GOAT TREKKING

The countryside is particularly vibrant and colourful at this time of year and there was no better way to see it than in the company of goats!

Euro Goat Trekkers provide numerous walking experiences within the mountain area that feels a million miles away from the bustling coastline.

We had settled for the walk known as the Heidi experience, meeting our new walking companions just outside of Parcent and below the summit of Coll de Rates. Our pack was made up of adult males, an adult female, pygmy goats and 12-weekold kids.

Our lovely guide was Katherine, and before long we were strolling along with the captivating sound of bells whilst she described their different 'personalities'....and yes, they were all different characters. We were encouraged to pat, stroke and even hold the pack, but warned not to touch their horns! Mid-walk we came upon a poppy meadow, particularly moving as the date of our walk was 8th May, the anniversary of VE Day!

We all agreed that this was a charming addition to a mountain walk in beautiful surroundings and definitely to be repeated. Find out more about other activities we have to offer on our website www.u3acalpe.org.

MOFTAG CELEBRATES ANOTHER SUCCESSFUL

FUND RASING FAYRE

The MOFTAG club of Calpe had a most successful fund-raising fayre on Saturday 17th May and raised the amount of €2523.

The event was held at Pub Delfin, Calpe and in addition to the many items on sale there were games for all ages to partake in. Visitors to the Fayre could purchase home made cakes, marmalades and chutneys. The Bric-aBrac stall had some amazing bargains and another stall was full of hand knitted toys including a gorgeous Paddington Bear.

Cancer Care also had a lovely stand there and were able to offer advice and support to people. As always, the MOFTAG fayre Raffle steals the show with an amazing variety of gift hampers, floral arrangements and vouchers for restaurants, hair and beauty treatments.

MOFTAG would like to thank everyone who came along on Saturday and supported this event. The Mayor of Calpe, Ana Sala also paid us a visit. Ana Sala is very supportive of Moftag as all the money they raise goes to local charities and underprivileged people. Some of the charities that they support are Cruz Roja, Maite Boronat Centre, Cancer Care, Guardian Angels association for single parents, the Fibromyalgia Association and children in care.

Moftag also organises social events for their members every week. If you are interested in becoming a member, please contact their President, Jenny Godfrey on mobile 639 139 158.
