Choosing the right pair of glasses is about far more than clear vision – it’s also about expressing your style and feeling confident every day. At Seepoint Ópticas in Jávea, our friendly team understands that selecting frames can sometimes feel overwhelming. With so many shapes, colours and materials to choose from, knowing what suits your face best can make all the difference.
The shape of your face is a great place to start. For those with rounder features, angular frames can help add definition. If you have a square jawline, softer oval or round frames provide balance. Heart-shaped faces often look wonderful in styles that are wider at the top, while oval faces are lucky enough to suit a wide variety of designs. Our experts can guide you through these choices, helping you find frames that flatter your features, whether you’re after a professional look for the office or something more playful for weekends in the sun.
At Seepoint Ópticas, we pride ourselves on offering a wide range of frames to suit every budget and lifestyle. From affordable everyday options to the latest designer collections, you’ll find styles that combine comfort, durability and fashion. Whether you need something sleek and understated for business meetings, or bold and colourful frames to reflect your personality, we’ll help you discover the pair that feels just right.
Of course, great glasses begin with a thorough eye test. Our qualified opticians provide comprehensive checks to ensure your prescription is up to date and your eyes are healthy. Once we’ve taken care of your vision, we’ll work with you to choose frames that match both your face and your lifestyle. Why not treat yourself to a visit? Book your eye test at Seepoint Ópticas in Jávea today and explore our extensive range of frames. With our personal advice and welcoming service, you’ll leave not only seeing better, but also looking your best –whether for business or for fun.

Your home is more than just bricks and mortar, it’s your safe place, your comfort zone, and often your most valuable asset. That’s why it deserves the very best protection. At Jennifer Cunningham Insurance, we proudly recommend Generali’s fully comprehensive house policy.
When it comes to home insurance, it’s not just about having a policy, it’s about having the right policy. Many homeowners assume they’re fully covered, only to discover the gaps when making a claim. For example, in Spain the kitchen is classed as contents, not buildings, meaning you need to get your contents cover right to avoid nasty surprises.
Optional extras such as accidental damage are also worth considering, as they cover everyday mishaps like broken windows, damaged furniture, or dropped devices.
Another valuable feature is cover for leak detection and repair, plus excess water consumption, subject to terms and conditions. This can make all the difference in preventing costly surprises from hidden leaks or burst pipes. At Jennifer Cunningham Insurance, we go further than just arranging your policy. Our knowledgeable consultants take time to guide you, helping you decide which level of cover best suits your individual needs. We also have our own dedicated claims advisors to support you if something goes wrong, and a renewal team to review your policy each year and ensure your cover remains up to date.
We also offer a wide range of optional guarantees to give you complete peace of mind, including:
• Dangerous dog liability
• Public liability for mobility vehicles
• Cover for electric vehicle chargers
• Protection against illegal occupation (especially valuable for second homes left empty)
• Unpaid rent protection for landlords
For those with jewellery, artwork, or other valuable possessions, we also provide enhanced protection in the event of theft involving violence.
Don’t miss out on our Cashback Offer!
From 26th August to 24th November 2025, you’ll receive 10% cashback on every new Generali Home or Motor policy paid by Direct Debit. With no limit on the number of policies, cashback is paid directly into your bank account. Minimum premiums apply (€325 Home, €450 Motor) with up to €75 cashback per policy.

For the first time in I can't remember when, we got away for a second week of read, eat, sleep, repeat. Same beach, same restaurants so we didn't even have to think too hard about anything. It recharged the batteries which is great as the next couple of months are busy for us as the new edition of our six monthly Focus On Professional Services magazines come out.
I gave blood for the first time in Spain last month. It was very simple. I had to fill out a form and answer some questions in Spanish - if you don't understand written and spoken Spanish you can easily use your phone to translate if there is noone there who can help. It is great that the regulations have changed so that once again we can help save lives in such an easy way. I went with darling daughter who has always been able to donate having been born here. She is a 'special' blood type as she keeps reminding me, so they are really pleased that she goes as often as she is allowed. I will now receive a text message letting me know when they are next in my area which is great as I don't always see the notifications on social media, which seems more interested in trying to catch me with clickbait than giving me any decent information these days.
This month sees our local Moors and Christians celebrations so we house swap again with darling daughter and family as their 'Kabila' is close to our apartment. We sleep better away from the noise and they don't sleep anyway as they are partying late into the night.
Until next time, take care and be kind.

Spanish Court Rules: Non-EU Property Owners Can Deduct Rental Costs in Spain
The Spanish National Court has issued a landmark ruling allowing non-European property owners to deduct rental expenses, a benefit previously reserved only for EU residents. The Court also declared Spain’s prior tax treatment discriminatory, marking an important step toward fairer rules for international property owners.
What has changed?
Until now, non-EU residents renting Spanish property could not deduct costs such as cleaning, utilities, or marketing from their rental income, while EU residents could. Non EU are also taxed at a higher flat rate of 24% compared with 19% for EU citizens, a rate gap that still remains.
The case that triggered the decision involved a U.S. citizen who owned property in Barcelona. Spain’s tax authority had argued that deductions were unavailable to non-EU residents, forcing them to declare gross rental income. The National Court rejected this, finding it incompatible with EU law, particularly Article 63 of the Treaty on the Functioning of the European Union, which protects free movement of capital.
Why the ruling matters
The Court stressed that Spain cannot justify harsher tax treatment for non-EU residents. Just as discriminatory rules on
inheritance and donations tax were struck down by the European Court of Justice and Spain’s Supreme Court, the same principle applies to rental income. Equal treatment is the standard, regardless of nationality or residence. This judgment overturns the stance of Spain’s Central EconomicAdministrative Tribunal (TEAC) and opens the way for non-EU owners to claim deductions in the same way as EU residents.
Implications for future tax measures
The ruling also has political significance. Spain’s President, Pedro Sánchez, recently proposed a new “Complementary State Tax” of 100% on property purchases by non-EU residents. The Court’s decision strongly suggests such a measure would breach EU law, amount to discrimination, and likely be struck down in both Spanish and European courts.
For non-resident owners and potential investors, this ruling provides greater certainty and reassurance. It confirms that Spain must respect principles of fairness and nondiscrimination, offering a more level playing field for those investing in Spanish real estate.
At My Lawyer in Spain, we see this as an important step forward for equality and legal clarity. If you are a non-resident who owns or plans to purchase property in Spain, our team can guide you through the legal and tax implications to ensure you are protected.

Spain’s new traffic signs are finally hitting the roads. Approved in July 2025, they are now being introduced step by step - first in urban areas and especially where signs relate to electric mobility and Low Emission Zones (ZBE).
At Generali Expatriates, we want to keep you up to date with the latest changes so you can stay safe and well informed.
Key updates you’ll notice
• Electric mobility
New signs mark charging points for electric vehicles.
• Personal mobility vehicles
Clearer symbols show where e-scooters and similar devices are permitted - or banned, such as on pavements, interurban roads, and motorways.
• Road safety
Fresh warnings include wild animals (like wild boar), reduced visibility zones, and even aerial speed checks by drones or helicopters.
• Traffic management
Look out for signals marking 2+1 lanes (two lanes in one direction, one in the other) and improved combined pedestrian–cyclist crossings.
Why it matters
The new signs are designed to:
• Improve visibility with clearer shapes and contrasts.
• Adapt to modern mobility trends
• Enhance safety by addressing today’s risks.
• Ensure consistency across Europe.
You can consult the full catalogue of signs on the CNAE (Confederación Nacional de Autoescuelas) website. The DGT has indicated that the new content will only be included in theory exams when updated training manuals are available, ensuring candidates have enough time to prepare properly.
Stay protected as roads evolve
Even with clearer signs, accidents and breakdowns can happen.
At Generali Expatriates, our car insurance is designed to keep you safe with:
• 24/7 roadside assistance in English through a freephone number
• Clear, reliable support in your language whenever you need it
And what's more, from 26 August to 24 November 2025, enjoy 10% cashback on new car or home insurance policies paid by direct debit.
Visit www.generaliexpatriates.es for full details or call 91 342 25 49.
Stay alert, learn the changes - and drive with confidence knowing you’re well covered.
The Bunion or Hallux Valgus is a deformity of the foot caused by a deviation of the first toe towards the middle axis of the foot and a deviation of the first metatarsal towards the outer edge of the foot accompanied by irregular bone growth in the first metatarsal head and articular incongruity of the metatarsophalangeal joint. This causes pain due to inflammation of the soft tissues of the area from constant friction against footwear and from the structural and mechanical alteration due to the bone deviation.
When is it recommended to operate on bunions?
It is recommended to operate on bunions when they are painful, when osteoarthritis appears or the structural deformity affects walking correctly which in turn affects other levels of the locomotor system. It is also advisable to perform surgery in cases in which as a result of the bunion, the toes are deforming like when the second toe appears hammer-like.
When a patient wishes to undergo an operation a professional should study each case individually, taking into account the age, health status, lifestyle ... etc. At Portalet Clinic, we will explain in detail and alleviate any worries without compromise. What type of technique is carried out at Clinica Podológica Portalet?
We perform minimum incision surgery. As its name suggests, it is done using minimal skin incisions, usually 2 to 4mm. Through these millimetric incisions we can reach the soft tissues and bone, without causing injury to the adjacent tissues.
Advantages of Minimal Incision Surgery:
- Immediate recovery as the procedure is minimal.
- The patient walks away with a post-surgical shoe without crutches or help.
- After just 48 hours the patient can continue life as normal.
- Almost painless.
- No fixing bolts or needles used. One of the drawbacks of open surgery is the use of fixing materials, with Minimal Incision Surgery fixations are not necessary as the soft tissues themselves, which we have respected, the joint capsule and a light dressing are responsible for this.
- Local anesthetic, only affecting the foot, so the dose used is less.
- No hemostasia (restriction of blood flow). As the size of the incision is so small, there is little bleeding so there is no need for a tourniquet, thus avoiding all risks of cutting blood flow.
- Less risk of infection. The small size of the incisions also decreases the risk of infection.
- Barely visible scaring.

If your young child is showing signs of crooked teeth, crowding, or other bite issues, taking early action may help them enjoy a straighter, healthier bite as their smile grows.
At Zen smile Spa we understand that many kids dislike metal braces and wearing them can traumatise them throughout their adolescence. That’s why our practice provides Invisalign clear aligners for children to promote healthy early development comfortably.
Remember straight teeth are a lot easier to clean and rectifying malocclusion prevents jaw pain, tooth wear and grinding later on in life.
Early orthodontic treatment teaches your child the importance of good oral hygiene which is so much easier without metal braces and studies show that there is a much lower chance of decay with the use of Invisalign.
All of our orthodontic services are designed to address your kid’s oral health needs holistically.
We want to improve the look and health of their teeth, jaws, and gums for a lifetime of beautiful smiles. We can start Invisalign First treatments as early as age 7-11.
If you’re looking for Invisalign aligners in Jávea, we’re the team you can trust to help your child achieve their dream smile.

Firstly, what is a galaxy? It's a huge conglomeration of stars held together by gravity. Often, but certainly not always they are in a big spiral, the shape so beloved by science fiction film makers.
How many stars are in a galaxy? This really is a difficult question, our galaxy, the Milky Way has somewhere around 300 million stars, our neighbour the Andromeda galaxy has over 1 trillion stars, it's a big beggar. There are also plenty of galaxies with less than 1000 stars so size doesn't come into the description, it's only whether the star group is held together by gravity.
Is it difficult to see a galaxy? Well that's another tricky question, it all depends on where and when you go looking. If you live somewhere with truly dark clear skies it's remarkably easy to see the Andromeda galaxy. Looking north east about halfway up the sky you'll see a faint blurry blob, this is it, now try looking with binoculars or a telescope with only around 20x magnification and you'll get a much better view. Please be aware that to the naked eye it will never look anything like it does in a photograph, a photo stores a great many pictures together to build up the wonderful images we see. How big and how far away is Andromeda? When you're looking at it in the sky it might seem to take up about the same amount of area as a full moon, buts that's only under perfect conditions and for young people with exceptional eyesight. For most of us it will be a lot less than that. You are looking at something that's 2,5 million light years away from us, or to put it another way, you are looking back in time 2.5 million years. When the light set off that we are seeing, homo sapiens didn't really exist, we were just an early branch of one of many proto humans.
Given that Andromeda is one of the nearest galaxies to Earth and is just one of over a trillion, you might begin to get some idea of just how vast space is.
If you enjoy looking at Andromeda, you might also try and find the Triangulum spiral galaxy it's not far from Andromeda. Just look down and to the right. This is the third biggest galaxy in our local group after Andromeda and our milky way. Lastly the double cluster galaxies between Perseus and Cassiopeia are well worth finding. That's all for this month, dark skies to you all.

There’s something irresistible about a confident smile. It lights up a room, makes first impressions memorable and, most importantly, helps you feel good about yourself. Thanks to the latest cosmetic dentistry innovations, achieving that dream smile is easier, quicker and more natural than ever before.
Take professional whitening, for instance. Forget fiddly supermarket kits with patchy results – today’s in-clinic treatments can safely lift your teeth by several shades in under an hour. The results are instant, and you leave the chair ready to show off a brighter, fresher smile. Then there are veneers, which have had something of a glowup themselves. No longer the thick, artificial shells of the past, modern porcelain veneers are whisper-thin and designed to look just like natural enamel. They can disguise chips, gaps and discolouration with such subtlety that nobody will guess they’re not your own teeth.
For a quicker touch-up, composite bonding is having a moment. Using tooth-coloured resin, dentists can refine shapes, close little gaps and smooth out imperfections – all in a single appointment. It’s affordable, minimally invasive and delivers instant impact.
Perhaps the most exciting development is digital smile design. With clever 3D imaging, you can actually preview your new smile before treatment begins. It’s a bit like trying on a new look, but for your teeth – and it ensures the results perfectly suit your features.
Clinica Dental La Plaza is the answer
Here in Jávea, Clínica Dental La Plaza, led by Karen Gardner, is embracing these cosmetic trends to help patients achieve smiles that feel as good as they look. The autumn approaches and so women's groups across Spain are meeting to decide on their actions to raise public awareness of the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women on 25 November. The European Union of Women Marina Alta (EUWMA) is right up there, already meeting with the Equality Council for Teulada Moraira and meetings planned in Jávea and El Poble Nou de Benitatxell.
'Our commitment is a given' said vice president Marion Oprel as she left the meeting in Teulada town hall. 'What we need is the message to be on everyone's lips, in their actions and in their homes: STOP this scourge, this excess of toxic masculinity which leaves children without their mothers, and parents without their daughters. By fighting for women's rights and equality we are fighting for the rights of each human being.'
Wherever you are on 25 November, join the activity, the procession, the reading of the manifesto or just light a candle in the window and express yourself on social media.
Founded 72 years ago in Vienna, groups of European Union of Women continue to raise issues of equality, exploring the history of women so as to understand inequalities and the
possibilities for the future.
Here in the Marina Alta, they work with other women's groups to expose injustices, raise issues and study best practices. For information about EUWMA, see us on our website www.euwmarinaalta.org, on Facebook https://www.facebook. com/groups/euwma and email euwmarinaalta@gmail.com.
We regularly organise cultural events and round tables, and are inviting female artists to participate in our fourth annual Art Exhibition which will be held in Espai La Senieta, Moraira 30 April to 15 May 2026 with the theme 'How dare she! - women who choose to be different'.
The photo shows the Equality Council in Teulada Moraira with EUWMA.
This has been a challenging year for us with 35 dogs being rescued in one day alone and now 17 tiny puppies left by local bins on the hottest day of the year, as well as all our existing dogs and day to day rescues.
As a small, self funded charity we are always busy fundraising to finance the shelter, food, vet bills etc. The shop in Jalon is our main source of income, but events are also important.

Aries: The Full Moon this month is in Aries, and it shines a light on your desires, your awareness and your impulses. Considering the fiery emotions now in play; stay focused and look after yourself, be calm and let things happen!
Taurus: Your planetary leader Venus transits Virgo early on this month. Love and some careful planning will see you safely through. Be analytical about a recent relationship and practical about logistics; weigh up the pros and cons!
Gemini: A clash of egos brings in a power struggle which is causing friction that will inevitably bring conflict. The Sun squares Pluto and shows you that you have the upper hand, but don’t get too involved. Walk away with your head high.
Cancer: Jupiter transits Cancer just after mid month, rewarding you and bringing you a positive change of direction. A surge of emotional intelligence tells you that your loving care is needed to turn things around now.
Leo: Creativity and your outgoing energies are in balance at last. You are confident and fully prepared for what comes next, just know that changes are coming and that you will take control when the time comes. Just go for it!
Virgo: This is a month of passion and love of an intensity you have not fully experienced before. With Venus transiting to your sign this month, focus on what you need from an affair of the heart and commit when you are ready!
Libra: Mercury transits your sign at the start of a very busy month. Knowing that you have work to do is never a problem. You are able to open up levels of communication that are by far the best ways of dealing with minor conflicts now.

Capricorn: Watch finances. It’s quite clear that, at the moment, somebody isn’t paying their way, but bear in mind that you cannot afford for this to continue. Actions with Pluto bid you to focus on your own wants and needs.
Aquarius: Pluto Directs in Aquarius this month. Upholding honesty you are having to be economic with the truth on behalf of someone who appears to be something they are not. Have your say, monitor the situation and just be there !

Should you choose to have artificial grass in your garden? What are the benefits, and what areas are best suited to artificial grass?
As a seasoned garden designer and landscaper from the UK and Spain for over a quarter of a century, I can tell you that yes, you should have artificial grass. As with any product to do with the home or garden there are pros and cons to having artificial grass versus natural grass, but here in Spain in particular, the list of pros far outweighs the list of cons. For me the list of cons aren’t really cons, they are just a few little things, which a lot of people don’t even care about. But the pros list, not only is that a big list, it’s an important list which spans from being more environmentally sound (probably a surprise for most people), right through to the simple fact that it can rain and your dog or children can go and play on the artificial grass immediately - they may get wet, but that’s all, no mud, no muck. A couple of obvious pros are a much smaller water bill and the fact that you don’t have to worry about it, ever. If you have to go away for a few weeks, or two years, you won’t need to worry and check to see if the gardener has been going in and doing his job (which so many don’t do) while your not there. No panic, you will return, and it will still be there, smiling at you in all its green glory.
As regards where to put artificial grass, well, it’s obviously nice in your garden area where a lawn would go, but it also works great on terraces, balconies and decks, it's no problem to lay it where you need it. I suppose for me the best option is always when you have a lovely mature garden with big trees and lovely plants that are sitting in a miserable sea of gravel. Those jobs are my personal favourites as the green of an artificial grass lawn just stitches the whole picture together and makes it quite a beautiful scene, a 100 times nicer than hundreds of metres squared of boring gravel.
No matter where you do put your artificial grass, if it's going into a space that isn't tiled or decked (or some sort or hard base) then prep is key, we have had a few clients recently question our overall prices versus other competitors, claiming they are half the price of our quote. Our grass price is very competitive for the quality and the fact it includes, the supply, delivery, labour to install, materials to install and IVA. Then the rest is prep cost. Believe me, if someone says they can be half of our price then they are doing half of the work, or supplying half of the material, or they are employing people illegally. The simple fact is you can't get to that price without cutting corners. I have seen the result of this too many times, when people ask us to try and fix it, sometimes they can’t afford for us to fix it. And that’s really sad. It turns a great product into a bad one, not because of the product, but the people responsible for laying it. Don’t be a client who wishes they had gone with us, join the hundreds of clients who already have and continuously enjoy their artificial grass lawn for years. Speak to the pros, Artificial Grass Spain.

The Disadvantages of AI in Elderly Care & Healthcare:
Privacy Concerns. One of the concerns surrounding the use of AI in elderly care and healthcare is the potential invasion of privacy.
Also there are concerns around bias in AI Algorithms leading to doubts among seniors.
While AI can help with things such as reminders to take tablets, it is not a replacement for human connection. Too much dependence on machines could risk isolating seniors further if technology replaces, rather than complements, personal care.
If you need more help or info on this subject, please come and see us. We are here happy to help.
Until next month, your PC-HIGHWAY TECH TEAM
The meeting will take place in the Club de Tenis, Calpe, at 10.30hrs. There will be a representative of the Calpe Cruz Roja giving advice on basic first aid, and such things as how to spot the signs of someone starting to have a heart attack.
Coffee will be offered to the members. Our association advises residents on their problems they may find in Spain, we are not professionals, we just point people in the right direction. We maintain a desk of multilingual volunteer translators at the Calpe Centro De Salud, their hours being from 9am to 12pm. The volunteer group is run by committee member Noel Jackson who can be contacted on his mobile number 620 687 633, if you want a translator or if you would like to offer your services. New members are always welcome. at the meetings.

The Calpe and Benissa Lions closed their charity shop for only two weeks this summer. In those two weeks we made some improvements to the shop and prepared for a very successful Antiques Fair at El Canor where we raised over 600 euros. Many thanks go to Paul Horey for very generously letting us have our stall without charge. We look forward to his next Fair at El Canor on the 12th of October, open from 9am to 3pm.
We were certainly very busy helping the community during the summer. Firstly we bought very much needed fireproof jackets for the Calpe Protección Civil, ten in total which luckily so far have not had to be used in any forest fires.
We then bought a large fridge for the Maite Boronat Day Centre for disabled adults, and we are about to buy a new hob for their oven.
The children in the Salud y Comunidad Home in Benissa (formerly EMAÚS) were treated to summer camps by us, and we have paid for their sports activities for this school year. We have also paid for football training for disabled children in Calpe.
Along with the association MOFTAG we helped pay for underprivileged children, under the umbrella of Social Services, to have a full day at Terra Mitica.
On a monthly basis we donate 350€ to Caritas Calpe and Cruz Roja Calpe, and 300€ to Caritas Benissa. All this is possible due to the wonderful donations we receive from you the public. Apart from paying for the overheads of the shop, all the money we get from the sales in our charity shop goes towards helping people in need.
Our shop on Calle Pintor Sorrolla, 15, Calpe is run by an International team of volunteer Lions members and volunteers. We have a wonderful selection of nearly new clothes and an incredible selection of good quality brica a brac. Our shop is open from 10 am to 1pm, Monday to Saturday. Why not come and have a browse around?
We are always looking for new members and volunteers. If you are interested please pop in to see us in the shop, or call Carole on 639 637 520 or email calcalpe@gemail.com.

It's autum. A time for renewal. A time for new goals. Setting a goal is exciting - it sparks motivation and gives us a sense of purpose. But the real challenge lies in staying committed when life gets busy, motivation dips, or Netflix starts calling louder than our walking shoes. That’s where clarity and consistency matter most.
Right now, I’m training for a marathon in December. Can't believe I just typed that! On paper, it’s a monumental physical challenge. In practice, it’s a daily reminder that small, consistent actions build big results. Each run, each stretch, each recovery day adds up. And on the tough days, I remind myself that showing up is already a victory (even if my legs strongly disagree).
Walking is one of my secret tools. Not just for fitness, but for thinking. When we walk, we move our body and quiet our mind. It’s a powerful way to reflect on what we’re working toward, reconnect with our goals, and problem-solve with clarity. Plus, it’s the only time no one can interrupt me with “just a quick question.”
So how do we stick with goals?
Be specific. “Get fitter” is vague; “Run 5km” is clearer. Break it down. Big goals are just small steps stacked daily. Track and celebrate. Every milestone deserves recognition (yes, new socks count). Or simply tell a friend. Stay flexible. Life happens; adapt without quitting.
As a Positive Psychology Coach, I help people find that clarity and create strategies that work for them. If you’re ready to set meaningful goals - and stick with them - maybe I can help. WhatsApp +34 676507791
