Unraveling Campinas

DELEGATES AND DIRECTORS REDISCOVER CAMPINAS AND ITS HISTORICAL PLACES By Ana Laura Freire

FAMUN gave its participants the opportunity to discover Campinas from a new perspective. The cultural walk, guided by FACAMP Art History Professor, Renato Brolezzi, led the participants to rethink the conception of urbanism and the city’s history. Memories and stories of the citizens were brought back to present life while the walkers learned about the culture each historical building holds. The beautiful Nossa Senhora da Conceição cathedral was one of the main sites visited. The colonial building was inaugurated in 1883 and it represents an important period of Brazilian history. Rediscover the meaning of the statues surrounding the cathedral and the building itself enchanted each delegate in a different way. The economic changes, the decadence of the public spaces and the loss of interaction between the individual and the city were the main topics discussed during the walk. “People just pass and there is not a meaningful interaction between the city and its inhabitants”, said Professor Brolezzi while the walkers passed through the Square Carlos Gomes. The cultural walk was a moment for everyone to rethink their relation with urban space and to know more about Brazilian historical and cultural aspects.

Committees CIJ

UNSC

The presence of a UN Expert on Sanctions clarified the role of the UNSC Sanctions Committee, which forced Russia and China – after consulting their capitals – to abandon the idea of creating a new committee to deal with sanctions. Concerning the situation of PDRK, the initial talks were marked by an escalation of conflict. PRK stated that it was prepared to retaliate PDRK if the country insisted on developing its nuclear programme. As a response, China surprisingly declared its support to PRK.

El Gabinete se ha puesto en alerta

Bilateral financial cooperation at the BFF

AYER HUBO OTRA HUELGA EN VENEZUELA BRAZIL AND THE IADB WORK TOGETHER Y LA OPOSICIÓN SÓLO AUMENTA WHILE FINANCIAL COOPERATION SEEMS TO BE DISTANT

BRICS members are having problems with the perspectives defended by the World Bank (WB). Indian delegates were interested in discussing topics such as water and soil projects, while the President of the WB showed worries about those topics, since the Bank will not finance projects that engage just a few nations. He also affirmed that the WB stands for all developing countries and not only the egocentric projects of BRICS nations. Despite this conflict, the government of Brazil and the Inter-American Development Bank signed a bilateral agreement on sanitation. The IADB agreed to finance the project “Potable Water and Sanitation for Communities and Indigenous Rurals” in Brazil. The Bank also committed to provide resources to develop EMBRAPA researches. Although the contract demonstrated how the nations are recurring to bilateral contracts instead of empowering their own common bank, it also showed an important concern with social development in Brazil. However, in relation to BRICS proposals as a whole, South-South financial cooperation seems to be very far from achieving a solid project that would represent BRICS nations as an economic block.

A child’s dream or a reality? JOINING THE UN IS POSSIBLE TO ANY STUDENT By Bruna Cacace

The XXI century has cultivated in its youth the ideal of bringing justice to the world and aiding the less fortunate. Working for institutions such as the UN has become a dream to most students committed to making a real change and shaping the future. However, doubts still remain about how to professionally contribute to the Organization. To join the UN, the candidate must enter its website (https://careers.un.org.) and check the available positions to specific areas, as well as workplaces, capacities required, salaries and benefits. Furthermore, candidates must be graduated and fluent in at least one of the UN official languages – English, French, Spanish, Chinese, Arabic or Russian. It is worth noticing that each agency, fund or program also has its own selection process and specificities. On the official website you will find out about different

programs, such as internships, volunteers and professional staff. In the internship, the main objective is to provide students with a first impression of the working routine at the UN, while volunteers must candidate themselves for specific projects within the United Nations Volunteers program and be selected according to the requirements needed for each volunteer position around the world. For more details, UN Careers and ONU Brazil websites have more data and links required for applications. Bear in mind that participating at a UN simulation is already a step to know more about the Organization and its procedures! You are already halfway in the path to shape the future through modeling and even through a future work at the UN!
