En paralelo, nuestra flota de largo radio continúa su expansión. Este año ya se han incorporado los tres nuevos Boeing 787 Dreamliner previstos, con los que ya cruzamos el Atlántico, conectando Europa y América.

After consolidating our commitment to long-haul flights with the addition of the Boeing 787 Dreamliner, Air Europa is now taking a new strategic step in the renewal of our short- and medium-haul fleet with the gradual arrival of the new Boeing 737-8 MAX. The company has already taken delivery of the first of four aircraft scheduled for this year, making it the first Spanish airline to operate the most advanced version of the single-aisle model with the highest number of units sold in the history of commercial aviation. This addition represents a significant milestone that reinforces Air Europa’s leadership in technological innovation and sustainability.

The new MAX aircraft will allow us to operate European routes more efficiently and, on an ad hoc basis, some domestic routes as well.

Thanks to their advanced engineering, these aircraft offer a significant reduction in fuel consumption and CO₂ emissions, while increasing onboard comfort for our passengers.

At the same time, our long-haul fleet continues to grow. The three new Boeing 787 Dreamliners planned for this year have already come into service, and are now flying across the Atlantic, connecting Europe and America. The arrival of these new aircraft brings us closer to our ambitious goal of achieving a 30% reduction in emissions by 2030, compared to 2015 levels. Fue la primera ciudad brasileña declarada Patrimonio de la Humanidad por la Unesco en 1980. De este reconocimiento se cumplen ahora 25 años, pero Ouro Preto (Oro negro) vive ajena a todas las vanaglorias que llegan por su belleza y legado. En el estado de Minas Gerais, al sudeste del país, fue fundada en el siglo XVII y albergó, durante varios siglos, a los buscadores de oro y numerosas minas auríferas. A principios del siglo XIX este metal noble empezó a agotarse (se extrajeron de las minas cerca de 1.200 toneladas de oro y miles de diamantes), pero de esa época de riqueza aún quedan en pie iglesias, puentes, casonas y fuentes, muchas firmadas por el escultor barroco Antonio Francisco Lisboa, El Aleijadinho.

ENG This was the first Brazilian city to be declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO in 1980. 25 years have passed since this accolade was given, but Ouro Preto (Black Gold) remains oblivious to all the hype that comes with its beauty and legacy. Located in the state of Minas Gerais, in the southeast of the country, it was founded in the 17th century and was home to gold prospectors and numerous gold mines for several centuries.

In the early 19th century, the precious metal began to run out (around 1,200 tonnes of gold and thousands of diamonds were extracted from the mines), but churches, bridges, mansions, and fountains remain from that era of wealth, many designed by the Baroque sculptor Antonio Francisco Lisboa, El Aleijadinho.

We’re working on the new tour and, in October, La Regla de Osha, whose soundtrack we contributed to, will be coming out in cinemas.

RECUPERAR L A SILL A PAYESA Fotógrafos como Català-Roca, Joaquím Gomis o Josep Maria Subirà la retrataron como si fuera un personaje más de la escena. También el escritor y artista dadaísta alemán Raoul Hausmann realzó su belleza austera, su artesanía y solemne presencia, llegando a escribir sobre la silla payesa, la silla tradicional de la Ibiza rural, así en 1934: “Para que su trabajo llegue a ser una silla, el carpintero hace trenzar una cuerda de boga y lleva el armazón de madera al cordelero vecino; éste trenza artísticamente el cordel en cuadrados, haciéndolos más pequeños hacia el centro del asiento. Acabadas tres sillas, sólidas, irreprochables, las lleva a can Mestre, en Benimussa, y las presenta, aisladas y en grupo. Y la sala, que hasta entonces parecía vacía, queda cargada de sentido”.

Son pocos los carpinteros que hoy trabajan la silla payesa en Ibiza del único modo que se puede: a mano y con mino.

Uno de ellos es Bartolomé Marí Serra (Santa Eulalia del Río, 1986), que aprendió a “montar” estas sillas de su padre ya jubilado cuando tenía 17 años: “Le veía como las hacía en madera y terminé aprendiendo también el encordado tradicional de la isla”. La silla payesa o silla ibicenca tiene un origen desconocido, pero su diseño y utilidad va muy ligada a la propia idiosincrasia de la arquitectura y la forma de vida ibicenca. “Son las sillas de nuestros abuelos, están ligadas a la propia cultura de la isla”, asegura Bartolomé, que produce unas 200, totalmente a mano, “un año bueno”.

Una silla payesa auténtica está producida con madera de pino ibicenco u olivo, y su asiento se hace con cuerda de fibra natural de esparto, redonda o plana, de dos o tres hilos.

“El dibujo tradicional del cordón es a cuadros, pero también como mirallet, donde hay un escalonado de varios hilos y en el centro un cuadrado más grande”, explica Bartolomé, que añade que tarda dos días en hacer una sola silla: “Los carpinteros elaboran sillas bajo demanda, se tarda bastante”.

[…] Es versátil y atemporal”, asegura el creador que expuso en la Fundación Ses12naus, el pasado año, una línea de mobiliario basado en la silla payesa, pero lo hizo en código abierto para que el usuario pueda intervenir y personalizarla. “La silla payesa es perfecta […]. Mi objetivo era ofrecer una silla como regalo, para que en Ibiza cualquiera pudiera hacerla o encargarla; la simplificación en su estructura es una consecuencia de este punto de partida”, asegura. Con su propuesta, puede que este bien cultural salga de su peligro de extinción.

of the seat. Once three solid, flawless chairs have been finished, he takes them to Can Mestre in Benimussa and presents them, either individually or in a group. And the room, which until then seemed empty, is filled with meaning.”

There are few carpenters today who make the traditional Ibizan chair in the only way it can be done: by hand and using a mino. One of them is Bartolomé Marí Serra (Santa Eulalia del Río, 1986), who learned to “assemble” these chairs from his retired father when he was 17: “I watched him make them out of wood and ended up learning the traditional stringing >

An authentic Payesa chair is made from Ibizan pine or olive wood, and the seat is made from natural esparto fibre rope, either round or flat, with two or three strands. “The cord is traditionally woven in a square pattern, but there is also a mirallet pattern, with a staggered arrangement of several strands around a larger central square,” explains Bartolomé, adding that it takes two days to make a single chair: “Carpenters make chairs on demand, so it takes quite a while”.

NEW DESIGNS FOR THE 21ST CENTURY But this traditional style of chair is not merely a functional object; it has been inspiring artists, designers, and 26

architects for centuries. This is a domestic item that still attracts the interest of contemporary creators, such as French designer Alban Le Henry, the latest to come up with a project based on its simplicity: “When I arrived in Ibiza, I saw its design and realised, as a designer, that it was a great representation of the island itself. [...] It’s versatile and timeless,“ says the creator, who exhibited a line of furniture based on the Payesa chair at the Ses12naus Foundation last year, but did so in open source so that users could modify and personalise it. ”The Payesa chair is perfect [...].

My aim was to offer a chair as a gift, so that anyone in Ibiza could make it or order it; the simplicity of its structure is a direct result of this initial idea,” he says. With his idea, this cultural treasure may be saved from extinction.

“Recuerdo, de pequeña, que todas las mujeres mayores usaban espardeñas. Vestían faldas hasta los pies bajo las que aparecía este hermoso calzado”, dice la artesana María Morcillo. Para respetar la esencia de esta joya de las Pitiusas, elabora a mano alpargatas ibicencas con fibras naturales de pita y cáñamo y tintes extraídos de plantas y flores de la isla.

“El ensamblaje es lento y personalizado, requiere tiempo y paciencia”, dice. Piezas delicadas con vocación eterna.

Espadrilles are traditional footwear that has been deeply rooted in the popular culture of Ibiza and Formentera for centuries. “I remember, as a child, that all the older women wore espadrilles. They wore floor-length skirts that revealed this beautiful footwear,” says artisan María Morcillo. To respect the essence of this Balearic gem, she handcrafts Ibizan espadrilles using natural pita and hemp fibres and dyes extracted from plants and flowers found on the island.

“The assembly is slow and customised, requiring time and patience,” she says. Delicate pieces with eternal appeal.

La tenue luz, la frescura del agua y el espectáculo insólito de un bosque subterráneo de columnas de mármol que sustenta una bóveda de ladrillo, crean una atmósfera de misterio que atrapa a quien visita la Cisterna Basílica de Estambul (Turquía). No es extraño que el cine y la literatura hayan encontrado en este lugar el escenario perfecto para películas de espías (sí, el mismísimo James Bond estuvo aquí en Desde Rusia con amor) o bestsellers trepidantes (imposible olvidar la última escena de Inferno, de Dan Brown). “No fue creada para ser contemplada, sino con el fin práctico de abastecer de agua al Gran Palacio de Constantinopla y otros edificios en caso de que la ciudad fuera asediada”, explica la historiadora Catalina de la Torre. “Tampoco era la única, ya que hay evidencias de que existían en la capital cerca de 80 subterráneas, así como algunas al aire libre”. Construida en el año 532, bajo el imperio de Justiniano, el Palacio Sumergido (como también es conocida esta cisterna) podía albergar 100.000

“La mayoría de las piezas de esta columnata tiene capiteles jónicos y corintios, aunque también hay algunos dóricos”, afirma De la Torre. “Las más singulares son las dos que cuentan con la cabeza de Medusa, una de las tres Górgonas de la mitología griega de la que se dice que convertía en piedra a aquellos que la miraban. Por eso, según cuenta la leyenda de esta peculiar cisterna, los bloques decorados con su rostro están orientados uno boca abajo y el otro de lado para evitar la maldición”. Un relato lleno de fantasía que, sin embargo, aún hoy nos invita a descubrir este lugar, donde la magia del silencio y la belleza absoluta todavía es posible.

It is not surprising that cinema and literature have found in this place the perfect setting for spy movies (yes, James Bond himself was here in From Russia with Love) or fast-paced bestsellers (it is impossible to forget the last scene of Dan Brown’s Inferno). “It was not created to be admired, but for the practical purpose of supplying water to the Great Palace of Constantinople and other buildings in case the city was besieged,” explains historian Catalina de la Torre. “Nor was it the only one, as there is evidence that there were around 80 underground cisterns in the capital, as well as some above ground.” Built in 532, during the reign of Justinian, the Sunken Palace (as this cistern is also known) could hold 100,000 cubic metres of water in its unique labyrinth of nine-metre-high marble columns, reused from ancient buildings and monuments, arranged in 12 rows of 28 pedestals each.

Air Europa recibe su primer Boeing 737 MAX y se convierte en la primera aerolínea española en operar este modelo.

Desde el pasado mes de mayo, Air Europa es la primera compañía española en operar el Boeing 737 MAX, con el que inicia la renovación de sus unidades de corto y medio radio. Este modelo, que constituye la variante más avanzada del avión de pasillo único más vendido de la historia, supone una importante mejora en materia de confort, eficiencia y sostenibilidad.

Suministrado por AerCap Holdings N.V., el mayor lessor mundial del sector de la aviación, esta unidad es la primera de un total de cuatro que llegarán a lo largo de este año. A ellas se le unirán una decena más en 2026, hasta completar una veintena a mediados de 2027. Air Europa cubrirá rutas continentales de medio radio con el nuevo Boeing 737-8 y, más adelante y de forma eventual, otras de corto radio entre destinos nacionales.

El nuevo modelo representa un salto adelante en su segmento. Además de seguir los más exigentes estándares de calidad y seguridad, supone una importante mejora en materia de eficiencia. Con una aerodinámica optimizada gracias a su diseño, cuenta con motores LEAP-1B que le dotan de un alcance de hasta 3.500 millas. Emplea los sistemas más avanzados para calcular las rutas más adecuadas, lo que le permite reducir el consumo de combustible en hasta un 20%, evitando la emisión de hasta 3,6 millones de toneladas de CO2 al año.

En materia de confort, el 737 MAX constituye una notable mejora frente a su competencia. Construido con un 90% de materiales reutilizables, junto a una estructura y componentes más ligeros, dispone de unas ventanas un 20% más grandes, iluminación LED dinámica y unos maleteros con mayor capacidad para los 178 pasajeros que puede transportar. Todo ello contribuye a generar una experiencia única para el pasajero al tiempo que permite seguir avanzando hacia los objetivos de sostenibilidad de la compañía.

Air Europa receives its first Boeing 737 MAX and becomes the first Spanish airline to operate this aircraft.

Since last May, Air Europa has been the first Spanish airline to operate the Boeing 737 MAX, marking the start of the renewal of its short- and medium-haul fleet.

This model, which is the most advanced version of the best-selling single-aisle aircraft in history, represents a significant improvement in comfort, efficiency, and sustainability.

Supplied by AerCap Holdings N.V., the world's largest lessor in the aviation sector, this aircraft is the first of a total of four that will be arriving throughout this year. They will be joined by a dozen more in 2026, bringing the total to twenty by mid-2027. Air Europa will cover medium-haul continental routes with the new Boeing 737-8 and, later on, other short-haul routes between domestic destinations.

The new aircraft represents a leap forward in its category. In addition to meeting the most demanding quality and safety standards, it represents a significant improvement in efficiency. With optimised aerodynamics thanks to its design, it is equipped with LEAP-1B engines that give it a range of up to 3,500 miles. The aircraft uses the most advanced systems to calculate the most suitable routes, enabling it to reduce fuel consumption by up to 20% and avoiding the emission of up to 3.6 million tonnes of CO2 per year.

In terms of comfort, the 737 MAX is a significant improvement over its competitors. Built with 90% reusable materials, along with a lighter structure and components,

25 años volando a Italia 25 years flying to Italy Air Europa celebró el 25 aniversario del inicio de su operativa a Italia con dos eventos en Milán y Roma a los que asistieron clientes, entidades y organismos oficiales, touropeadores y medios de comunicación.

Air Europa celebrated the 25th anniversary of the start of its operations in Italy with two events in Milan and Rome attended by customers, official institutions and organisations, tour operators, and the media.

Durante ambas celebraciones, Renato Scaffidi, country manager de Air Europa en el país, puso en valor la importancia del mercado italiano para la compañía y el lugar destacado que ocupa en su plan de crecimiento. Scaffidi, acompañado por Imanol Pérez, director comercial de Air Europa, Bernardo Botella, director de Ventas y Mar Ayudarte, directora regional de la aerolínea en Europa, destacó el buen comportamiento registrado desde sus inicios por las tres rutas operadas en el país y prueba de ello fue, según dijo, la reanudación de la operativa a Venecia, que se vio interrumpida en marzo de 2020 debido a la pandemia.

La buena tendencia registrada hasta ahora por la operativa prosigue a lo largo del presente ejercicio en el que Air Europa espera transportar en sus rutas a Roma, Milán y Venecia más de 700.000 pasajeros, un 11% más que en el año anterior.

During both celebrations, Renato Scaffidi, Air Europa's country manager in Spain, highlighted the importance of the Italian market for the company and the prominent place it occupies in its growth plan. Scaffidi, accompanied by Imanol Pérez, commercial director of Air Europa, Bernardo Botella, sales director, and Mar Ayudarte, regional director of the airline in Europe, highlighted the positive performance recorded since the launch of the three routes operated in the country. Proof of this, he said, was the return of operations to Venice, which were interrupted in March 2020 due to the pandemic.

The positive trend recorded so far by the operation is continuing throughout the current year, in which Air Europa expects to carry more than 700,000 passengers on its routes to Rome, Milan, and Venice, 11% more than in the previous year.
