Hace una década, Air Europa se marcó un objetivo a largo plazo en materia de sostenibilidad: queríamos reducir nuestras emisiones de CO2 en un 30% para el año 2030. Por el camino, han sucedido muchas cosas, pero nada nos ha impedido seguir adaptándonos para avanzar en la dirección que nos marcamos. Prueba de ello es que, tras 2024, ya hemos recortado las emisiones en un 21%.
Nada sucede por casualidad. En nuestro caso, hemos realizado un trabajo que, hoy, se articula en torno a un Plan Estratégico que pone la sostenibilidad como eje clave. Parte de dicho plan es el proyecto Vuelo 2030, bajo el que estamos llevando a cabo más de 40 medidas para alcanzar una sostenibilidad real a todos los niveles.
La Air Europa de hoy es mucho más eficiente y equilibrada con el medio ambiente. La base de nuestra evolución reside en nuestra flota, una de las más modernas del sector, con un modelo insignia como es el Boeing 787 Dreamliner, capaz de reducir hasta en un 25% el consumo de carburante.
Llevamos introduciendo combustible sostenible para aviación (SAF) desde 2023, antes de que, desde este año, fuera obligatorio en los aeropuertos comunitarios. Comprobará también que usamos materiales reciclables en nuestra oferta gastronómica, que apostamos por la digitalización de todos los procesos y que aplicamos la tecnología más avanzada para emitir menos.
¿Sabía que usamos una aplicación para minimizar el consumo de combustible en la fase de ascenso o que calculamos la ruta más eficiente mediante el análisis de datos? Vamos a incorporar nuevos vehículos eléctricos para la operativa en tierra y este año llegará nuestro primer Boeing 737 MAX, que contribuirá a seguir volando hacia un futuro más sostenible.
Nada de lo anterior nos hace olvidar que queremos ofrecerle el mayor número de posibilidades para elegir un destino a su medida. Por eso este mes inauguramos nuestra ruta a Estambul, y desde abril hemos vuelto a volar a Marrakech y Túnez, dos destinos fundamentales en nuestra oferta de verano. A decade ago, Air Europa set itself a longterm sustainability goal: we wanted to reduce our CO2 emissions by 30% by 2030. A lot has happened along the way, but nothing has stopped us from continuing to adapt in order to move in the direction we set for ourselves. Proof of this is that, after 2024, we have already cut emissions by 21%.
Nothing happens by chance. In our case, we have carried out work that, today, is articulated around a Strategic Plan that places sustainability at its core. Part of this plan is the Flight 2030 project, under which we are implementing more than 40 measures to achieve real sustainability at all levels.
Today’s Air Europa is much more efficient and environmentally balanced. The basis of our evolution lies in our fleet, one of the most modern in the sector, with a flagship model such as the Boeing 787 Dreamliner, capable of reducing fuel consumption by up to 25%.
We have been introducing sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) since 2023, before it became mandatory at EU airports this year. You will also see that we use recyclable materials in our culinary options, that we are committed to the digitalisation of all processes and that we apply the most advanced technology to emit less. Did you know that we use an application to minimise fuel consumption in the climb phase or that we calculate the most efficient route through data analysis? We are incorporating new electric vehicles for ground operations and this year our first Boeing 737 MAX is arriving, which will contribute to continuing to fly towards a more sustainable future.
None of the above makes us forget that we want to offer you the greatest number of possibilities when it comes to choosing a destination tailored to your needs. That’s why this month we are launching our route to Istanbul, and from April we will once again be flying to Marrakech and Tunis, two essential destinations in our summer programme. Se le conoce como el Valle de la Luna, por su extraño paisaje, escasa vegetación y su sorprendente gama de colores en sus suelos. El Parque Provincial de Ischigualasto, en el noreste de la provincia de San Juan en Argentina, celebra los 25 años desde que fuera declarado Patrimonio de la Humanidad por la Unesco. Pero, además de su belleza magnética, es una zona muy visitada por científicos, pues es el único lugar en el planeta donde ver al descubierto y de modo diferenciado el período Triásico (el primero de la era Mesozoica). De hecho, sus formaciones rosas tienen una antigüedad de casi 250 millones de años. Uno de sus atractivos turísticos es El Hongo y las Barrancas Coloradas (en la foto), unas formaciones rocosas que desafían la gravedad.
ENG Known as the Valley of the Moon, due to its strange landscape, sparse vegetation and the surprising range of colours within its soil, the Ischigualasto Provincial Park, in the northeast of the province of San Juan in Argentina, is celebrating 25 years since being declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site. But, in addition to its magnetic beauty, this is an area much visited by scientists, as it is the only place on the planet where the entire Triassic period (the first of the Mesozoic era) can be seen exposed and in a differentiated way. In fact, its pink formations are between 200 and 250 million years old. One of its tourist attractions is El Hongo and the Barrancas Coloradas (in the photo), gravity-defying rock formations.

En vez de rodar en estudios, en todos sus títulos ha creado escenarios imaginarios en los que ha ubicado a sus personajes: la isla de Nueva Penzance, la megalópolis de Megasaki, la ciudad de Ennui-sur-Blasé o la desértica aldea de Asteroid City. Y para cada uno de esos lugares ha creado cientos de objetos: muebles, libros, mapas, periódicos, medios de transporte... Wes Anderson tuvo la idea de conservar todo este trabajo de diseño, y ahora una exposición retrospectiva en la Cinemateca Francesa lo recupera, junto a objetos tan curiosos como el abrigo de piel que vestía Gwyneth Paltrow en Los Tenenbaums. Desde 1977, el 18 de mayo se celebra el Día Internacional de los Museos, y este 2025 con el lema El futuro de los museos en comunidades en constante cambio. Mayo es el mejor mes para acercarse a los museos, especialmente a los 16 museos estatales gestionados por el Ministerio de Cultura. El abanico de experiencias es inigualable: desde la Cueva de Altamira, en el Museo Nacional y Centro de Investigación de Altamira de Santillana del Mar (Cantabria), hasta adentrarse en la antigua Roma en el Museo Nacional de Arte Romano, en el conjunto arqueológico de Mérida, Patrimonio de la Humanidad por la UNESCO.

Es una de las fiestas más populares de Mallorca, y quizá también la más ruidosa. Del 8 al 12 de mayo se celebra Es Firó de Sóller, la colorida recreación de la invasión de este municipio por parte de piratas turcos y argelinos, y su posterior victoria, en 1561. Un momento épico en este pueblo de la costa noroeste de la Sierra de Tramontana que, además de replicar esta mítica batalla, también celebra la investidura de las Valentes Dones, para recordar a aquellas mujeres que lograron repeler un ataque de los piratas en su casa, en la espectacular Iglesia de San Bartolomé, en la plaza principal de Sóller. Comida callejera, exhibiciones de trajes tradicionales y mucha música, completan la festividad.
ENG This is one of the most popular festivals in Mallorca, and perhaps also the noisiest. From the 8th to the 12th of May, Es Firó de Sóller is celebrated, the colourful re-enactment of the invasion of this municipality by Turkish and Algerian pirates, and its subsequent victory in 1561. An epic moment in this town on the north-west coast of the Sierra de Tramontana which, as well as re-enacting this legendary battle, also celebrates the investiture of the Valentes Dones, in remembrance of those women who managed to repel a pirate attack on their home, in the spectacular Church of San Bartolomé, in the main square of Sóller. Street food, displays of traditional costumes and lots of music complete the festivities.

Los arquitectos del Studio Moto se plantearon varias preguntas antes de levantar este mirador en la costa de De Panne, un municipio costero de Flandes, en Bélgica.
“El mar con sus mareas, la playa, las dunas y el paseo marítimo. Bélgica y Francia. Pájaros y caminantes. Agua, arena, hormigón y naturaleza. ¿Cómo podemos unir todos estos elementos, hacerlos más tangibles, sin imponerlos y sin perturbar el lugar?”. El resultado fue esta construcción en altura que funciona como una torre de vigilancia para todos los vecinos. Un anillo elevado con planta de pentágono alargado que ofrece vistas a las dunas cercanas, pero también al mar e, incluso, a la localidad de Dunkerque, provocando una sensación de “vuelo sobre el agua”. La arena de la playa ha logrado, a su vez, una integración de su perímetro con el entorno natural.
ENG The architects at Studio Moto asked themselves several questions before building this viewpoint on the coast at De Panne, a seaside town in Flanders, Belgium. ‘The sea with its tides, the beach, the dunes and the promenade. Belgium and France. Birds and walkers. Water, sand, concrete and nature. How can we bring all these elements together, make them more tangible, without imposing them and without disturbing the place? The result was this raised construction that functions as a watchtower for everyone there. An elevated ring with an elongated pentagon floor plan that offers views of the nearby dunes, but also of the sea and even of the town of Dunkirk, creating a sensation of ‘flying over the water’. The sand on the beach has, in turn, managed to blend in with the surrounding natural environment.

Anja Ilić (Liubliana, Eslovenia, 1989) llegó a Frankfurt en 2017 para trabajar en banca, desde entonces aquí se siente como en casa. También está, al norte, el bosque de Taunus, perfecto para una escapada, "y si conduces más lejos de la ciudad, la región de Rheingau te ofrece vistas panorámicas de los viñedos". Pero para la joven su lugar favorito es el barrio de Sachsenhausen, al sur: "me encanta estar cerca del agua, la amplitud del espacio, el río que fluye, me siento bien".

‘I still remember the first time I crossed the River Main and was mesmerised by the skyline. That view never gets old: they call it ‘Mainhattan’.’ Anja Ilić (Ljubljana, Slovenia, 1989) arrived in Frankfurt in 2017 to work in banking, and since then she has felt at home here. ‘One of the first things that surprised me was how compact the city is. You can easily cycle from one end to the other in just 20 minutes’. And the fact is that the green spaces of the German city are the great unknown. ‘Frankfurt is famous for its skyline and for being a European financial centre, but it is also surrounded by the GrünGürtel (Green Belt), a beautiful space for walking and cycling along nature trails,’ she says. To the north, there is also the Taunus forest, perfect for a getaway, ‘and if you drive further from the city, the Rheingau region offers panoramic views of the vineyards’. But for Anja, her favourite place is the Sachsenhausen neighbourhood to the south: ‘I love being by the water, the spaciousness, the flowing river, I feel good’.

¿Qué significa para ti Pueblo Salvaje?
Todos tenemos un pueblo salvaje, ese sitio donde nos encontramos con nosotros mismos y nos sentimos un poco más en paz con la vida.
Algunos comentan que este es el mejor disco de tu carrera…
Eso lo dirá el tiempo y el público. Pero sí es un disco diferente a lo que había hecho anteriormente. A nivel sonoro y musical, es más natural, más maduro, más amplio en cuanto a estilos y muy marcado por la guitarra tocada por mí, porque tengo un toque bastante particular.
¿Estamos olvidado nuestras raíces?
Uno es la mejor versión de sí mismo cuando, de verdad, va a su raíz, a lo que es. No hay que perderse en lo de fuera, hay que conectarlo.
¿Te gusta el mundo que nos está tocando vivir?
Hay cosas que no y cosas que sí. Tenemos que hacernos fuertes, cuidarnos y cuidar a los que queremos. No puede ser que alguien te tumbe por ponerte un comentario en las redes sociales.
¿Estamos dominados por las redes sociales?
Por las redes sociales y el entretenimiento de fuera. Estamos todo el día conectados, perdiéndonos un montón de cosas. Son una vía de escape. De vez en cuando, nos gusta ir con el piloto automático, porque la cabeza se calienta mucho, pero hay dejar de dar importancia a eso y dársela a lo que podemos tocar. >
Usas la phi griega, símbolo de equilibrio… ¿Estas ahora en ese momento de la balanza?
Sí, siento que estoy en el camino correcto. Tengo una vida privilegiada, una profesión que es mi pasión, escribo mis canciones, las canto, las comparto, la gente las quiere… Como artista, quiero intentar sumar para mí y para el que me escuche. Esta profesión me permite tener un altavoz.
¿Crees que el amor es lo que mueve el mundo?
Si todos nos acercáramos más al amor nos iría mucho mejor. El amor es lo más importante del mundo. Pero quizá lo que lo mueve es el dinero.
¿Qué esperas de esta gira y cómo te preparas?
Me preparo con la mayor de las ilusiones, tanto a nivel físico como mental. Estoy preparando una gira que, espero, va a ser más espectacular que la anterior.
Tú decides: ¿brocha o guitarra?
Me quedo con la guitarra. Aunque estaba feliz con mi brocha y mi rodillo, la guitarra me salvó la vida y sigue acompañándome en los grandes momentos de mi vida.

We all have a wild town, that place where we can find ourselves and feel a little more at peace with life.
Some say this is the best album of your career... Only time and the public will tell. But it is an album that's different to what I've done previously. Sonically and musically, it's more natural, more mature, more wideranging in terms of styles and very much defined by my guitar playing, because I've got quite a distinctive style.
Are we forgetting our roots?
We're the best version of ourselves when we go back to our roots, to what we are. We mustn't get lost in what's outside, we have to connect with it.
Do you like the world we are living in?
There are things I don't like and things I do like. We have to make ourselves strong, take care of ourselves and take care of those we love. It can't be right that someone knocks you down for posting a comment on social media.
Are we dominated by social networks?
By social networks and outside entertainment. We're on-line all day long, missing out on a lot of things. They're an escape route. From time to time, we like to go on autopilot, because we need to chill out, but we have to stop giving it so much significance and give it to things that we can actually touch.
You use the Greek phi, a symbol of balance... Are you in that moment of feeling balanced now?
Yes, I feel that I'm on the right path. I have a privileged life, a profession that is my passion, I write my songs, I sing them, I share them, people love them... As an artist, I want to try to add something for myself and for everyone who listens to me. This profession allows me to have a loudspeaker.
Do you think love is what makes the world go round? If we all moved closer to love we would do much better. Love is the most important thing in the world. But maybe what makes it go round is money.
How are you preparing for this tour?
I'm preparing with the greatest of enthusiasm, both physically and mentally. I'm getting ready for a tour that I hope will be even more spectacular than the last one.
You decide: paint brush or guitar?
I'll stick with the guitar. Although I was happy with my paint brush and roller, the guitar saved my life and it's still by my side in my life's greatest moments.

La isla, en las últimas dos décadas, ha recogido algunas de las más sorprendes propuestas arquitectónicas de Europa. Nombres internacionales como Herzog & de Meuron o Santiago Calatrava han dejado aquí su huella entendiendo que en Canarias la naturaleza volcánica manda más que el hormigón armado. // ENG Over the last two decades, the island has been the setting for some of the most surprising architectural projects in Europe. International names such as Herzog & de Meuron and Santiago Calatrava have left their mark here, with the understanding that in the Canary Islands, the volcanic landscape reigns supreme over reinforced concrete.
En 2008, los arquitectos suizos Herzog & de Meuron, premio Pritzker, inauguraron uno de sus edificios más importantes en España: TEA (Tenerife Espacios de las Artes). Un edificio vanguardista marcado por la luz natural que ponía a la isla canaria en el objetivo de la arquitectura contemporánea. Dos años más tarde, el propio Jacques Herzog confesó que el amor por esta tierra iba más allá y se había diseñado una casa en Tenerife de la que apenas se han llegado a publicar imágenes. “Me encanta la gente, adoro a los tinerfeños, tienen una cultura mucho más cerca del corazón que la que tenemos los suizos”, afirmó en el diario El País.
Tenerife lleva varias décadas apostando por la nueva arquitectura como bengala para elevar su patrimonio cultural, pero también como mensaje de apuesta por el futuro. De hecho, en el año 2006, cuando el MoMA de Nueva York dedicó una exposición a la arquitectura española contemporánea, On-Site: New Architecture in Spain, incluyó varios proyectos levantados en Tenerife: la Escuela de Artes Escénicas de GPY Arquitectos (2003) y el Estadio de Atletismo de AMP Arquitectos (2006). Después, vinieron otros grandes edificios que conformaron un escenario interesante en lo arquitectónico, todos ellos sumando dos factores esenciales e identitarios como son el clima y el paisaje volcánico. “El clima benigno y el paisaje único de Tenerife permiten experimentar con la integración de la luz, la ventilación natural y de los espacios abiertos de maneras que serían difíciles en otros lugares, y bien aprovechados permiten crear una arquitectura bioclimática”, explica el arquitecto
canario Fernando Menis (Santa Cruz de Tenerife, 1951), presidente del Laboratorio de Innovación en Arquitectura, Diseño y Turismo Avanzado de Tenerife.
La arquitectura bioclimática, aquella en la que el diseño de los edificios se configura en función del clima local, para así proporcionar más confort térmico e integrarse con el entorno, es una constante en la obra de Fernando Menis. Dos de sus obras son claro ejemplo de ello: el Jardín del Espacio Cultural El Tanque, una restauración ecológica de una zona industrial protegida en el barrio de Cabo Llanos, en la que se incorporaron plataneras, arbustos y flora aromática autóctona; y el Parque del Drago en Icod de los Vinos, una rehabilitación de un paisaje abandonado con un drago milenario, especie endémica de la isla. “La arquitectura en Tenerife tiene el potencial de ser un reflejo de su espectacular paisaje y de ser amable con el entorno natural,

Esto es lo que hizo precisamente Menis en MAGMA Arte y Congresos, en Adeje, un edificio que se interpretó como una erupción volcánica y donde se combinó el hormigón con la piedra chasnera típica de la isla. Este gran palacio, proyectado como si fuese un nuevo Stonehenge, fue finalista al premio Europa de Arquitectura Mies van der Rohe. “La topografía volcánica de Tenerife ofrece formas únicas y materiales autóctonos como la piedra y la ceniza volcánica que pueden ser integrados en los diseños. Además, las condiciones climáticas de las islas, como la abundante luz solar y los vientos alisios, pueden ser aprovechadas en la orientación y contribuir a la eficiencia energética y la sostenibilidad”. Chumberas, obra también de Menis, un proyecto contemporáneo que ha sido incorporado a la colección del MoMA de Nueva York, y ganador en 2024 del Frate Sole Internacional Prize, el premio oscar de arquitectura sacra.
Si la luz y el paisaje juegan a favor de la arquitectura contemporánea en la isla, hay factores como la humedad y el salitre que históricamente siempre fueron un problema. La arquitectura vernácula de Canarias, que ha pasado la prueba del tiempo, ofrece enseñanzas a las nuevas generaciones, como confirma Menis: “Frente a la humedad y la sal, las piedras naturales resisten muy bien; la dureza del hormigón, que es una forma de piedra procesada, se ve favorecida si la mezcla contiene ceniza volcánica”. En cuanto a la humedad, los arquitectos locales favorecen la ventilación cruzada y la iluminación natural, jugando con las sombras.
Desafíos que se resuelven con ingenio, como dijo Santiago Calatrava, autor de dos de los edificios más icónicos de la isla, el Auditorio de Tenerife, un icono por su perfil ondulado, y el Centro Internacional de Ferias y Congresos: “Si se entiende la arquitectura como un arte, merece la pena dedicarle una vida entera”.

In 2008, the Pritzker Prize-winning Swiss architects Herzog & de Meuron inaugurated one of their most important buildings in Spain: TEA (Tenerife Espacios de las Artes). ‘The benign climate and unique landscape in Tenerife allow for experimentation with the integration of light, natural ventilation and open spaces in ways that would be difficult in other places, and if well used they allow for the creation of bioclimatic architecture’, explains Canarian architect Fernando Menis (Santa Cruz de Tenerife, 1951), president of the Laboratory of Innovation in Architecture, Design and Advanced Tourism of Tenerife.

are clear examples of this: the garden of the El Tanque cultural centre, an ecological restoration of a protected industrial area in the Cabo Llanos neighbourhood, incorporating banana trees, bushes and native aromatic flora; and Drago Park in Icod de los Vinos, a rehabilitation of an abandoned landscape with a thousand-year-old dragon tree, an endemic species on the island. ‘Architecture in Tenerife has the potential to be a reflection of its spectacular landscape and to be kind to the natural environment, if a conscious effort is made to incorporate natural elements into every aspect of the design,’ he says.
This is precisely what Menis did in MAGMA Arte y Congresos, in Adeje, a building that was interpreted as a volcanic eruption and where concrete was combined with island’s characteristic Chasnera stone. This great palace, designed as if it were a new Stonehenge, was a finalist in the Mies van der Rohe European Architecture Award. ‘The volcanic topography of Tenerife provides unique shapes and indigenous materials such as stone and volcanic ash that can be integrated into the designs. In addition, the climatic conditions of the islands, such as abundant sunlight and trade winds, can be exploited in terms of orientation and contribute to energy efficiency and sustainability’. Indeed, the play of light is what most draws attention to the Church of the Holy Redeemer in Las Chumberas, also the work of Menis, a contemporary project that has been incorporated into the collection of the MoMA in New York in 2024 was the winner of the Frate Sole International Prize, the Oscar of sacred architecture.
While light and landscape play in favour of contemporary architecture on the island, factors such as humidity and saltpetre have historically always been a problem. The

vernacular architecture of the Canary Islands, which has stood the test of time, offers lessons to new generations, as Menis confirms: ‘Natural stone resists humidity and salt very well; the hardness of concrete, which is a form of processed stone, is enhanced if the mixture contains volcanic ash’. As for humidity, local architects favour cross ventilation and natural lighting, playing with the shadows.
Challenges that are sovercome using ingenuity. As Santiago Calatrava, the architect behind of two of the island’s most emblematic buildings, the Tenerife Auditorium, an icon for its undulating profile, and the International Trade Fair and Congress Centre, said: ‘If architecture is understood as an art, it is worth dedicating a whole life to it’.

A Pedro Fajardo, presidente ejecutivo de Refractarios Especiales S.A., nunca le convenció la idea tradicional de exportar. Para él, no se trataba de colocar excedentes fuera cuando fallaba el mercado nacional, sino de conquistar el mundo como estrategia permanente. En los 90, decidió transformar Refracta en una empresa global. Lo hizo con productos innovadores —ladrillos y hormigones de altísima durabilidad para la industria del cemento— que rompían con la obsolescencia programada. “Pero si los clientes necesitan menos reposiciones, necesitas más clientes. Y para eso, necesitas al mundo”, afirma. Hoy, Refracta está presente en casi 100 países y el mercado internacional representa hasta el 90% de sus ventas. Pedro Fajardo, executive president of Refractarios Especiales S.A., was never convinced by the traditional concept of exportation. For Pedro, it was not a question of moving a surplus abroad when the domestic market failed, but of conquering the world as a permanent strategy. In the 1990s, he decided to transform Refracta into a global company. He did so with innovative products — extremely durable bricks and concrete for the cement industry — that broke away from the concept of planned obsolescence. “But if customers need fewer replacements, you need more customers. And for that, you need the world,” he says.

“Creo en una sociedad en la que las personas puedan vivir como seres humanos sobre la base de la igualdad.” Esta frase, que encapsula el pensamiento de Malcolm X, ilustra un mosaico que pasa desapercibido en la entrada de la estación de metro 110 Street - Central Park North, la primera parada en Harlem, el barrio al que tanto amó y del que hizo campo base de sus ideas revolucionarias. Hoy, este 19 de mayo, sus agitadas calles celebran el centenario del nacimiento de uno de los activistas afroamericanos más influyentes del s. XX. A su llegada a Nueva York, en 1943, el legendario líder de los derechos civiles sintió la necesidad de dedicar su vida a la lucha por una paridad que todavía hoy se resiste. A su vez, la ciudad le agradeció su misión dedicándole una calle propia, en la Sexta Avenida, en el tramo que transcurre por Harlem. Y es que el primer contacto de Malcolm X con Nueva York fue aquí, a través de músicos y comerciantes afroamericanos que le hablaron de la Gran Manzana cuando este apodo empezaba a cuajar. “Nueva York era el cielo, para mi. Y Harlem era ¡el séptimo cielo!”, llegó a afirmar. En sus memorias menciona esos primeros pasos en el barrio y una de sus paradas fue en el legendario Apollo Theater donde actuaba la banda del cantante y pianista de jazz Jay McShann. Esos recuerdos quedaron congelados hasta principios de los años 50 después de varios trapicheos que le llevaron a la cárcel. Pero allí entró en contacto con la Nación del Islam y sus estudios en religión y filosofía le devolvieron a Harlem como el nuevo pastor de la congregación del llamado Templo número 7. Aunque la mezquita original fue destruida en un atentado, en una esquina de la calle 116 se encuentra su heredera: Masjid Malcolm Shabazz. Para entonces, Malcolm X se había convertido en un portavoz de las desigualdades raciales del país y lideró varias protestas como las del precinto de policía de la calle dedicada al abolicionista Frederick Douglass y el hospital de Harlem. Su visión revolucionaria le ganó enemigos, incluso dentro del movimiento, y le quitaron la vida el 21 de febrero de 1965, cuando preparaba un discurso en el Audubon Ballroom. On his arrival in New York in 1943, the legendary civil rights leader felt the need to dedicate his life to the struggle for an equality that is still resisted today. In turn, the city thanked him for his mission by dedicating a street on Sixth Avenue to him, on the stretch that runs through Harlem. And it was here that Malcolm X first came into contact with New York, through African-American musicians and shopkeepers who told him about the Big Apple when this nickname was just starting to take hold. ‘New York was heaven for me. And Harlem was seventh heaven!’, he once said.
In his memoirs he mentions those first steps in the neighbourhood and one of his stops was at the legendary Apollo Theatre where the band of jazz singer and pianist Jay McShann was performing. It had only been a decade since the theatre first allowed black spectators in. On 125th Street itself, on the corner of Adam Clayton Powell Jr. Avenue, named after the first African-American congressman, he was struck by the Theresa Hotel, one of the few that accepted non-white clientele. Years later it would house the offices of his movement and become the setting for his historic meeting with Fidel Castro in 1960.

Those memories were frozen until the early 1950s after various shady dealings that landed him in prison. But it was there that he came into contact with the Nation of Islam and his studies in religion and philosophy brought him back to Harlem as the new pastor of the congregation at the so-called Temple Number 7. Although the original mosque was destroyed in an attack, its heir can be found on a corner of 116th Street: Masjid Malcolm Shabazz. By then, Malcolm X had become a spokesperson for the country’s racial inequalities and led several protests, such as those at the police precinct on the street dedicated to abolitionist Frederick Douglass and the Harlem hospital. His revolutionary vision earned him enemies, even within the movement, and he was murdered on 21 February 1965, while preparing a speech in the Audubon Ballroom. Air Europa reduces its emissions by more than 21% and fl ies towards its sustainability goals
Air Europa continúa avanzando decididamente hacia la consecución de sus objetivos en materia de sostenibilidad. Los datos al cierre de 2024 confirman que la aerolínea ha logrado reducir en más del 21% sus emisiones de CO2 desde 2015, acercándose al objetivo del 30% establecido para el año 2030.
Los rápidos avances en descarbonización se han apoyado en tres elementos clave: la modernización de la flota, el uso de carburante sostenible para aviación (SAF) y la implementación de soluciones tecnológicas avanzadas para mejorar la eficiencia operativa. Desde 2021 y 2022, la disminución de las emisiones se ha acelerado gracias a la unificación de la flota en torno a aeronaves Boeing, como los modelos 737 y 787 Dreamliner. Este año, se incorporarán tres nuevos Boeing 787 y el primer 737 MAX, contribuyendo a la reducción de emisiones en rutas europeas y nacionales.
Air Europa comenzó a utilizar carburante SAF en algunas rutas desde 2023, anticipándose a la normativa que exige a los aeropuertos europeos ofrecer un 2% de este tipo de carburante. Además, la compañía ha implementado tecnologías como OptiClimb para optimizar el consumo de combustible y está renovando su flota de vehículos en tierra a eléctricos. La aerolínea ha llevado a cabo también una renovación completa de los materiales con los que presenta su oferta gastronómica y sirve los menús con materiales reciclables y biodegradables.

Air Europa continues to expand with the incorporation of Istanbul into its network, one of the most fascinating cities in the world and a bridge between Europe and Asia. On May 12th, the airline is opening a route between Madrid and the Turkish metropolis for the first time, thereby strengthening its presence in the Mediterranean.
Air Europa will start by operating four weekly flights, which will gradually increase until reaching a daily service from July 7. Flights from Madrid will take off at 9.30 am, while those from Istanbul will do so at 4.00 pm, guaranteeing connections with the transoceanic night routes to America.

En el caso de Marrakech, la aerolínea ha habilitado dos frecuencias semanales hasta finales del próximo mes de octubre, superando los 20.000 asientos disponibles. La ruta a Túnez, activada desde mediados de abril hasta finales de septiembre, cuenta actualmente con dos frecuencias semanales, que se elevarán a tres a partir de junio.
Air Europa da servicio a ambas rutas con su flota Boeing 737, con la que puede cubrir destinos de corto y medio radio de forma eficiente y confortable, garantizando, asimismo, una alta capacidad a bordo.
Flights to Prague on a code share basis
Air Europa suma Praga a su red de destinos gracias al acuerdo de código compartido alcanzado con la compañía checa Smartwings. La aerolínea, filial de Travel Service Airlines y con la que ya colaboró tiempo atrás de forma exitosa, ha ampliado la oferta de destinos en Europa facilitando una frecuencia diaria entre Madrid y la capital centroeuropea desde finales de marzo.

Este drama rural presenta a Juan, un hombre que sale en libertad tras permanecer diez años encerrado por un crimen que no cometió. Aunque está dispuesto a matar a Luis, al que cree culpable de su injusticia, el hambre lo obligará a unirse a la cuadrilla de segadores de su enemigo. Sus sentimientos cambiarán a medida que recorren los campos de Castilla. La venganza era un canto a la reconciliación entre los dos bandos que lucharon durante la Guerra Civil española.
