This year we have organized Mid-autumn celebration, Halloween and CNY celebration. Gao Yizhe We have seen that Eusoffians of different nationalities enjoyed the events and had good interactions during the events. Those events created a nice holiday-like atmosphere, and Loh Shiah Leei through various types of activities during the event residents could learn more about the holidays. IRC also helps exchange students to get used to their new journey in hall as well as in Singapore. Therefore we organized Exchange Student Welcome Supper at the beginning of this semester. tran hoang nam This year Publications’ mission was a bit different from previous years’ as we do not produce the physical yearbook but a soft copy version of it. This would help to reduce zhang huizhong wastage in printing and time consumed in coordinating the different processes involved in the usual procedure. However as a result we face greater procrastination and noncooperation from the captains and committee heads as they seem to care less about the project and pay little to no attention to the representation of their CCAs in the yearbook. My vision for Publications in the years to come is very different. In my opinion the yearbook has not been successful thus far in inducing a sense of belonging and achievement among the hall residents. My ideal Publications would come in the form of a website, an actual online newspaper that displays various articles of all events and activities happening throughout the course of the year, and at the end of year all those articles can be combined into one archive file which is effectively all the content and beyond of what we usually include in the yearbook. In this way Publication can be brought to a greater height and attain the true status of a media support committee alongside EW and AW.

Committees

Publications will take in requests for covering events and produce write-ups in response to anything and everything occurred in Eusoff and to Eusoffians upon receiving requests or carrying out designated duty. The nature of the committee will indeed become much different and the workload will increase a lot, which will certainly merit an increase in points awarded. The role and responsibility of the next Publications head will be of much greater importance and the committee will be much more fun and active. Nam

arun kumar The sports management committee this year was a special one, personally for me. I am honoured to have had this opportunity to work with a very talented and responsible bunch of Eusoffians.

sharleen chin The passion of each and every member of the main committee as well as the sub-committee heads was inspiring and it was injected well into all the SMC members. SMC this year was formed justin ong rather late which made the huge task of managing sports and leading the hall into IHG even more challenging, and I am proud to say that all of us remained undaunted as we faced the different and phoebe yip difficult phases of our calendar year. This required immense amount of sacrifices and every single leader of the SMC never decided to take a step back. Such commitment always inspired me to put in my best efforts into leading this exceptional committee.

‘Together we stand, together we fight, one Eusoff!’ This was the vision that SMC has set for the

We started this year with rather raw talent, lacking experienced teams as a lot of our experienced

teoh zhi hao level of creativity that I have observed from them is simply brilliant. Be it the promotional videos,

the publications articles, the efficiency in facility management or the inspirational banners, all of casey tan them exuded a high level of quality. This was a sheer outcome of their passion to make a difference in Eusoff. Furthermore, the efficient allocation and management of our logistics and the value of sponsorship that we have attained truly reflect the heart and soul that SMC has showcased this year. Personally, it was one of the most daunting tasks that I have ever faced. Meeting the expectations of Eusoff and doing it with the best interests of all our athletes and SMC in mind has been an extremely rigorous challenge. For this, I have to thank the main committee of SMC for always providing support and working together day and night to make this happen. Whatever credit they receive is not enough but all four of you; Justin, Sharlene, Phoebe and Eugene, have really inspired me along the way. I believe that this year we recovered from one of the weakest periods in our sports history and with this, we have a strong platform to build upon and achieve further glory for the hall. It is true that you show your true character when the night is darkest. The qualities that I have observed from Eusoffians during this time have taught me how special it is to be a part of this community. We have come a long way in the past year and every one of us have truly made Eusoff special.

Lai Tao Yee One difference between this year’s and last year’s committee is the funding provided from the hall office, as SPT has shifted to become a fully self-funded committee this year. Seraph Seet Working with existing financial issues, the team managed to oversee the successes of Chloe Lee events planned, and even emerged a small profit. Derek Lim Out of the three major events SPT 1415 organized; Eusoff Night Cycling, Bash and Fiesta, the most memorable event to SPT this work year, is the first event organized: Eusoff Night Veronica Lum Cycling. Chen Chia Chi

Keeping in mind the budget restrictions, SPT was further challenged when the Night Teoh Zhi Hao Cycling event clashed with Singapore’s haze predicament. Considering that the PSI levels were worsening at undesirable levels a week prior to Night Cycling, there was a high Tan Zhi Peng possibility of the event being cancelled, which will result in huge financial losses incurred. Kenny Lye Hence, it was required of the team to concretize quick and astute plans to solve the issues posed. Eugene Teo What appeared most shocking to chairperson Lai Tao Yee was the spontaneity of his executive members in coming to a unanimous decision not to abandon the event but to push on and efficiently contribute to contingency planning.

Committees

With an unrelenting spirit, the committee exhibited great teamwork by being understanding of the problems faced, and proved ability to work around problems, ensuring the success of a safe and enjoyable Night Cycling experience for Eusoffians. The success of all three events was made possible with good planning, communication and efficiency SPT delivers. Such as strategic marketing in sourcing for cheaper vendors and sponsorships and larger scaled publicity efforts, ensuing the events’ resounding successes that the committee is proud to achieve. Through the vigour of this work year, the committee learnt that things happen for reasons and no amount of planning will guarantee a flawless execution. The key factor in achieving success is the attitude and aptitude to push forward against all odds and that, is the vision for SPT onwards.

simon lim jue qun Expeditions had a total of four major fundraising events in the past academic year. In semester one, we held our annual car wash. In semester two, we had our Valentines’ Day xiao xiao flower sales and newspaper collection. This year we organized a new fundraising event, a soccer showdown and had a total of 16 teams participating! Along with the help of our phoebe yip yun ying sponsors, the event was a huge success. We also kickstarted a social media event called the Eusoff Barefoot Challenge where we challenged our peers to go barefoot around the school campus. This event was created to raise awareness unable afford shoes. We also launched our crowdfunding website at the start of our barefoot challenge so our friends can donate to and support our cause.

Volunteerism

We also emphasize the importance of contributing back to our society. Last Christmas, we organized a Christmas party for the students of Rainbow Centre Yishun Park School where we made Christmas ornaments and sang Christmas carols along with them. We even brought in Santa Simon! T’was a day of fun and laughter. In March 2015, we worked with the kids of Maha Bohdi Primary School to design shoes for our Cambodian friends. We designed a total of 160 pairs of shoes which we brought over to Cambodia to distribute to the children. Team bonding is key in Expeditions and to facilitate this we had a bonding camp in Tanjung Pinang in December 2014. It was definitely an opportunity for us to get to know one and other better (unfortunately not everyone made it to the Kelong). We also had a pre-trip camp where we were split in our three different vans and got to know our van members better. We also did some cooking and dancing during the camp! All in all, it was a great and enriching year for Eusoff Expeditions! We managed to build a total of 39 toilets and 5 wells and also donate a kindergarten! We worked hard as a team and also played hard. A big THANK YOU to all the Eusoff Expeditions 14/15 members for making this project possible! 258

I was very lucky to be able to build on Yu Feng’s foundation of the block following his very Henry lau successful term. yeep Gar Wye Joey NG chua Qi san Fan Shimeng Julian lim Dennis woo Desmond Teh Carren teo

There were many new faces and missing old ones, but the main ideology of the block being one tight family did not and hopefully will not ever change. The dynamics of the block was definitely different from last year but by no means less fun and interactive. With a dedicated block comm I tried to maintain a good senior-junior relation which turned out to be the biggest challenge to all block heads this year, and in my opinion I did not manage to accomplish this objective. The block as a whole was not as bonded due to having too many active groups and personnel. However within the individual groups the members are very tight and interactions between the groups are at an acceptable levels though definitely could have been improved on. Nevertheless it has been an eye-opening experience which helped me greatly in understanding my fellow A blockers and it was totally a memorable but challenging job to take on. All the best to Leong Hui who will have an even greater role to play next year due to changes in EHOC but I believe he will be able to do a good job with the support of the whole block. Nam

vicky tan One of my fellow D blockers once asked me whether I have ever regretted taking up the role of being block head. My answer was a no. Being block head meant that unpleasant aaron tan things came my way quite often, but I like to think that pleasant memories outweighed tay tyn long the former. My predecessor (almighty President Chan) echoed similar sentiments and he told me that at the end of the term, I would find the responsibility gratifying, and chia shing eng gratifying it was. jasmine poh My favourite memory of the year had to be Talent Night. It was the event I dreaded the bryan soh most because well, umm, I’m not very talented. I think we achieved what I think was the most important thing, which was to have fun (the win was a plus). Thank you my freshies (and the three seniors who very gamely joined in), for making me feel like a proud mama as I watched all of you have fun on stage. I still have a copy of the performance video on my phone by the way! Of course, things like Angel and Mortal, CNY BBQ, and Halloween celebrations did not magically happen on its own. I believe my block comm was the smallest compared to the other four blocks but small packages pack a punch. Here’s a shout out to my minions Aaron, Tyn, Shingz, Jasmine, Bryan, Derrick the prodigal son* (and not forgetting honorary unofficial member Dinomich) for being around when it mattered. To all my D blockers: Our supper orders had the tendency to gravitate towards my preferences (Fat Boys and bean curd omnomnom) and I think we can all agree that I have awesome taste in food. Supper aside, I hope I did a decent job. If there was anything lacking, all blame is mine. Being part of the D block family was the happiest memory of my time in Eusoff and I am proud to have called it home. I hope it has been the same for all of you.

Gary Wong It has been a great honour to be the blockhead of E Block 14/15. I was extremely excited to take up this role as I hope to make E Block both inclusive among the E Blockers and Ryan De Cotta exclusive among the rest of the blocks. Tahmid Nasif vanneessa tian priscilla lim esther mei ambrose phan zheng jun

E Block is a rather unique block in many ways. We are tremendously diverse with multiple nationalities, various batches of residents and varied interest groups. While that is true, our block is generally bonded by the love of sports. With 7 sports captains and a Sports Director, E blockers are generally sporty especially on E4. We are also pretty nocturnal as it is common to hear people talking or chilling in the wee hours. Due to that, the security guard became our best friend. I am also blessed with interesting freshies that are quite bonded. We also have friendly seniors to guide them along.

ravi kumar There were various highlights that I would always remember. One was definitely last year’s Inter-Block Games floorball match. As the pride and joy of our block, floorball has always been the number 1 sport among E Blockers. As such, to win the floorball title had been the goal. Despite overwhelming competition from other blocks and many new players, E Block managed to win all our matches and emerged victorious! Another fond memory was talent night where our block is traditionally known for our entertainment value. True to our tradition, yet again we put up a fabulous and memorable performance called “Kullatep’s Ping Pong Show”. He wowed everyone with his amazing showmanship and indeed, we won the “Most Entertaining Block” in consecutive years. The Block Committee also initiated the Intra-Block Games which provided a platform for E Blockers to let their hair down while studying for their finals. And of course, in E Block, one will never get hungry with more than 8 sumptuous suppers. Our last block supper was so filling that we could eat the countless sashimi over the night all the way to breakfast while not forgetting the Fatboys burgers and churros. Hall Life

Lastly, I would like to thank all the E Blockers 14/15 for your support and commitment throughout the year. This is especially to our RF Dr Arafat as well as my competent Block Committee. I would also like to wish all graduating E Block seniors ‘Happy Graduation’. For those remaining E Blockers, I hope we can continue to uphold the spirit and values of our block and I hope to see you around! I sincerely hope everyone had some fond memories and fun in E Block. Cheers :)!! “Sometimes you will never understand the value of a moment until it becomes a memory ” - Dr. Suess

tey yi shun Hall Life Everyone knows that hall life begins after sunset. Studies and CCAs aside, my hall life is made up of suppers, birthdays, night runs around campus, HTHTs till daylight…being Eusoffians we all know, work in the day and live life at night. Sleep?! What is sleep? Being naturally shy and introverted, it was out of my comfort zone to be social. But for the sake of my mental health, I made friends. To kill time which FASS students have too much of, I joined many hall activities. Gradually, hall life eased my social awkwardness, found me like-minded friends, and taught me to have fun in life. Seriously, why so serious? However, when things get serious, these friends will show you that grumbling, ranting, and crying are acceptable. Many a time, their listening ears, reliable shoulders and helping hands have been my salvation. Rough times don’t last, tough friends do. Hall Spirit Halls stand out from Utown colleges because their setting is intimate enough to forge a strong sense of unity, yet large enough to gather talents and exude the vibrancy of student life. Hall spirit never occurs naturally. It requires continued effort to rally the hall, and to create opportunities and platforms to bond.

As cliche as it is, this is a story about Excellence and Harmony, specifically how I came to know the motto of Eusoff Hall better through 4 years of experiential learning. Excellence: To strive for the best, and uphold the highest standards in all areas. 4 years in Eusoff, 4 years in Eusoff Hall Dance Productions. DP has always been an embodiment of the spirit of excellence of all Eusoffians, and as amazing as it is, it continues to outperform itself in different aspects every year. For myself, I thoroughly enjoyed every single DP and I sincerely wish that Eusoffians present and future would have the opportunity to learn from EHDP as well. Harmony: Live in harmony with those around them. In hall, not just like-minded people will congregate together, you will also become close friends with people whom you would never imagined saying more than ‘Hi’ and ‘Bye’. You learn to care and protect one another. You help one another to grow, to shine, and to find their own passions. Most importantly, you earn yourself a group (or groups) of friends who will stick by you through thick and thin, friends who are not easy to come by. Thank You Eusoff!

Where else but hall can you find such opportunities to be a part of something so collective, to live out the hive hypothesis (Haidt, 2008)?
