achievements Results were better than what we had predicted.

outstanding player(s) Sports

Sharleen, who was the last leg, managed to maintain the lead for both relays to bring us to victory. Renjean swam well despite her injury. Every swimmer did exceedingly well to achieve personal best timings.

Words are words, explanations are explanations, promises are promises, but only performance is reality.

advice for the next captain Have more bonding activities to make the team closer.

table tennis (f)

captain: cheam xiaoen Team Manager: alcan ng JIAN HER

achievements The goals that we were all aiming for was to get into the finals and to feel bonded as a team. Though we eventually did not get into the finals, we really fought hard during the preliminary and semi-finals round. I am proud to say that our team is bonded through the hard work we put in during late hours of practice, and the late night suppers where we shared many experiences we had with one another.

outstanding player(s) Sports

Firstly, I think all the table tennis members who played IHG must be commended as I can see that they all fought hard and had the personal desire to win IHG. Committing 3 times a week nearing the competition was not easy and thus I think they should be commended greatly. I want to specially commend Xu Chen as she is present for nearly every training and is very focused on improving her skills. Due to her hardworking attitude, she picked up the skill really fast despite knowing nothing before she came in.

advice for the next captain

All glory comes from daring to begin.

In my personal opinion, the next captain should help the team to know our opponents before we start fighting hard on the field. I feel this way because we underestimated and overestimated some of our opponents this year, which led us to have a wrong line-up. Thus, maybe the next captain can help to facilitate friendlies with the other halls to gauge our opponents so that we have a better idea on how to strategise our line-ups.

table tennis (m)

captain: sean lee YOU Team Manager: yang yanqiliu

achievements We did not achieve our goal set for the IHG as we were aiming for at least a 2nd placing this year. As some of our better players left Eusoff this year, the overall strength is reduced. Furthermore, there were also quite a number of strong IVP players out there in other halls. We only managed to achieve a 3rd placing eventually, which is below our expectation.

outstanding player(s) Sports

All the players did their best and demonstrated fighting sprit during the matches, though some were a little bit intense and stressed at times. Table tennis is not something that can be mastered within such a short period of time. Nevertheless, members like You Chen and Jun Ming turned up almost all the sessions to perfect their skills and showed their willingness to learn.

advice for the next captain One of the most important issues that the next captain needs to find are good and capable fresh-ies to join the team. Furthermore, they should maximize the training time and if budget is allowed, find a coach that is able to conduct trainings to target specific skill sets and weak areas of each player. Last but not least, start the training as early as possible.

Second to none. 178

captain: TRAN TRUNG NGUYEN vice-captain: NGUYEN DANG KHOA Team Manager: lynn ong

achievements In terms of results, the team did not meet the goal we set. Eusoff Takraw always aim for the Gold and unfortunately we didn’t get it. But we achieve our goal of bringing in new players to the squad and train them into good players to replace the outgoing seniors.

outstanding player(s) Sports

Goh Wei Jie and Kullatep. Their improvements are remarkable for new players to the sport.

Believe in yourself, trust your teammates, and forget about the rest.

advice for the next captain Plan better with the team to ensure attendance and quality training during the December break, which is traditionally the most crucial period and also when most of our players went missing (aka went back to Vietnam).

tennis (f)

captain: beckie liu Team Manager: tay tyn long

achievements I didn’t have a specific goal set for this year because as a freshie captain I didn’t really know what to expect, so I had to talk to the seniors in the team. All I wanted was for the team to play to the best of their abilities and they did. It was really unlucky that we lost to TH but it’s all part of the competition experience. So in that aspect, the tennis team did achieve their goal.

outstanding player(s) Sports

I want to commend Joey Tang because I can really see that fighting spirit in her, which is very inspiring for all of us. Amanda has also improved a lot and was very calm and consistent during her games, even though she faced opponents who were more experienced than her.

advice for the next captain In a match, do not ever doubt yourself, be confidEnt.

Bonding the group together earlier in the semester! Everyone only bonded preceding IHG. Getting the team together way before that is very important because the team will be the player’s support system during tough times.

tennis (m)

captain: isaac cheong ZIKANG Team Manager: chua qi san

achievements In terms of result, the team has met the goal that was set before IHG started (that is to reach semi-finals). And to be honest, we had good chances on some occasions to surpass that goal, but unfortunately we did not manage to do so eventually. In terms of performance, I’m glad to see a lot of improvements in the players. Our team this year, though comprised of both young and old players, are still relatively lacking in terms of IHG experience, as well as tennis experience. Many players picked up the racquet for the first time this year, while some also only resumed playing after a really long time, yet they improved a lot and managed to get themselves on the teamsheet, and also performed very well on the courts.

Sports

In terms of teamwork, I could see that our team were there for each other during crucial times, and did not hesitate to offer words of advice to each other during and outside training, which is really heartening. The fighting spirit is really good too, we never gave up even when coming up against stronger opponents, but I guess that is something already inherent in any Eusoffian.

outstanding player(s) Zhiyi, definitely. He is undoubtedly our strongest player (and arguably the strongest in IHG as well), and will continue to be one of the weapons in our arsenal. Aside from that, there are also some worth mentioning such as Arun, he only picked up tennis this year but improved really really fast, and already became a regular in our team (I regret not recruiting him earlier, last year maybe). Shaun and Lum have really good potential too, both have really put up good performances during IHG!

Practice as if you are the worst, perform as if you are the best.

advice for the next captain More matches and friendlies for sure. Our players this year lacked a bit of match experience, which could only be improved by playing more matches. Train match analysis skills. The players should learn how to identify strengths and weaknesses of the opponents during the match to turn it into their advantage. Make the team more bonded and united. I don’t think I did a very good job of that this year. Sorry T.T!!! 190

touch rugby (f)

captain: sylvia Lim JIA YI Team Manager: tay yu jie

achievements I had 2 goals in mind for this year’s IHG - to have new blood in the team, as well as to retain the title. Unfortunately, we did not manage to get the gold, and that is something that still stings even now, weeks after the carnival. However, this year’s team did have a good mix of younger players as well as more experienced ones, which definitely help to keep things fresh.

outstanding player(s) Sports

We actually only had a handful of seniors left this year, and I am extremely grateful to them for their commitment and help this season. During the carnival, I felt that Gracia put up a great performance throughout the entire day.

advice for the next captain You aren’t born a champion. You mould yourself into one.

To constantly encourage, motivate, and inspire. Next year, there will be many experienced players on the team, but touch is a game where you’re always learning something new. There is always the need to motivate these players to break their barriers and to achieve greater heights.

volleyball (f)

captain: melinda chan YONG ERN Team Manager: lUm jun rong

achievements As EHVB was mostly filled with freshies, there was little that the seniors had expected for them as we were not sure how the freshies would be able to cope and adapt to the unique competitive atmosphere of IHG. As freshies and being slightly uncertain about IHG, they were skeptical about how strong our opponents were individually. Hence as a team we were not specifically goal-oriented (I mean, obviously everyone wants gold right?) but instead, we aimed to give our very best and make sure we would not leave the court with any regrets. Throughout the competition, the team’s character grew and was moulded. I am proud to say that the best phrase to describe this team is ‘mental toughness’. We went in physically weaker, but mentally much, much stronger. And there we are! Victorious! We have definitely exceeded our expectations. Volleyball, it’s a mental game and that’s the beauty of it. Sports

outstanding player(s) Cliché as it sounds; there was really no outstanding individual player. Every single player rose to the occasion and played a vital role in this team, be it supporting or playing. We came together and made one outstanding team.

People often say that motivation doesn’t last. Well, neither does bathing. That’s why we recommend it daily.

advice for the next captain That’s for the next captain to decide because each captain has a different style of leadership and each team has different types of followers. As captains, we adapt to our followers. Jiayou future captain!

volleyball (m)

captain: kiral lin YOUXUAN Team Manager: merlyn koh YU PING

achievements The team achieved its tangible goal by topping our group, but unfortunately falling short in the semi-finals. The good thing was that there were no expectations on us in the semi-finals, hence I was proud of the team’s gritty effort to fight tooth and nail all the way till the end, giving our opponent a run for their money.

outstanding player(s) Sports

Jason Ang. From a fringe player, Jason took his opportunity when it came knocking, and his overall play and contribution to the team made it almost impossible to drop him. Kudos to him coming in as a freshmen. A shoutout to the rest of the team who joined in for training throughout the semester, don’t stop trying and improving. I personally have not seen players improve as much as they did from ground zero. Really impressed with the newcomers to the sport.

advice for the next captain No one has to lose for you to win.

Seeking a balance between improving the team overall to be ready for competition while atthe same time not neglecting those who have just picked up the sport. Volleyball is a technically demanding sport which isn’t an overnight effort. Finally, also be open to inviting and introducing more people to this intense sport!

We start to know each other through some ice-breaking games at the beginning, Wang Yingxi and cooperated together to finish every check. There were some challenges like Liu Junling miscommunication in some checks, however we overcame them and learnt some lessons. Auditors is taking up a significant role in our hall life, its work interrelate lots of hall Li Siqi committees, JCRC and office, We all aware of the responsibility on us, so we put into effort and present the best of work to everyone. Moreover, another important thing we want to Liu Yikai say is we enjoy the experience as a member of Auditors, make friends and have fun. :)) Zhang Huizhong Yi Qiang

election committee gary wong kiat ming The Eusoff Elections Committee is one of the most infant committees in the hall, having only established the year before. We are responsible for creating the political culture of hall by instilling a sense of political awareness among residents. hu wei jie Although it seems to be a serious committee, I remember some funny moments. Formerly known as Eusoff Archives, EHC aims to preserve and at the same time share Eusoff ’s rich heritage with Eusoffians. We manage the Eusoff archives, which consists of wacky artefacts from different stages of the Eusoff College (1958-2001) and Eusoff Hall (1988-) years. These include documents, publications, plaques, T-shirts and so much more! They are kept neatly in the Archives Room located behind the Function Hall stage. Occasionally, we put up themed-projects to share Eusoff ’s past endeavours, such as compilations of Rag, DP and IHG achievements. For alumni, these are precious moments of reminiscence whereas for current Eusoffians, the paths taken by past Eusoffians generate thoughts on the current state of affairs in hall. Digging in the archives is like taking a ride in the time machine – it has helped us overlook year-to-year variations in hall practices to view the development of Eusoff through wider lens.

Committees

We launch our latest discoveries via https://www.facebook.com/EusoffHeritage. You are welcomed to ‘like’ the page for more nuggets of interesting stuff, as well as to share your thoughts! Going forward, we hope to educate ourselves on digital archives preservation so that digital content in EusoffWorks can be properly preserved for future retrieval. EHC hopes to attract Eusoffians who want to know more about this Hall we call home. By exploring the past, we examine the present, and predict for the future. Eusoff heritage is worth preserving – it is not about harping on our past glories (we try to be as objective as possible), but about documenting our collective memories. It is about preserving the legacy of Eusoff as it is being created right now.
