MASTER’S MESSAGE

ASSOCIATE PROFESSOR GOH BENG LAN

A

s the Academic Year comes to a close, I would like to thank the 29th JCRC for having done a superb job! They are a committed, reliable and caring team who held the common good of hall residents close to their hearts. Under their watch they grew a tight knit hall community and inspired their peers to pursue excellence and harmony in all that they did. The collective efforts of Eusoffians saw the Hall clinched gold in Rag Competition, Inter-Hall Environmental Competition and Inter-Hall Games (IHG). Bringing the IHG Championship back to Eusoff was no small feat as the hall had lost the title for four con-

secutive years. Apart from CCAs, this year also saw the strengthening of programs established during the 29th JCRC – hall points system and the expansion of PAL to see some 75% of freshmen benefitting from this study program. This year also saw the second run of a week-long hall awareness program managed by the HAP. Within this week, a day was designated as Eusoff Day—a day where Eusoffians do something extraordinary to remind themselves of Eusoff values. This time, the HAB decided to mark Eusoff Day by having Eusoffians break a Singapore Book of Records by making the heaviest

12

rojak (90 kg) ever to be made in the Singapore. The rojak was chosen as it aptly symbolizes a ‘melting pot’ that Eusoff Hall is. The project of breaking a record was also aimed at bringing home Eusoff’s motto of “Excellence and Harmony.” Such a feat required Eusoffians to work strategically and harmoniously together. Indeed, so did Eusoffians and the Hall is now in the Singapore Book of Records for achieving this feat. The rojak-making event was fun, enjoyable and

13

memorable for all Eusoffians! In closing, I would like to thank all CCA Heads, Block & Level Heads and Student Facilitators for PAL. You are the foot soldiers on the ground who looked after our residents in one way or another. I know that each of you have made much sacrifice and I want to thank you for your commitment and hard work. To all Eusoff residents, my gratitude for lending a hand towards enriching residential life at Eusoff and making

the hall a happy home for all of us over this academic year. I also want to thank the hall office led by Rashidah and her team for their devotion and excellence. I also want to thank all Resident Fellows for their dedication and care for residents. Likewise I want to thank the external SCRC for their steadfast support of the hall. Lastly, I would like to highlight that 2018 will be a special year for Eusoffians— the hall

is turning 60 years old! Various celebrations are in place (a special DP at MES Theatre (24 January), a special Eusoff Fiesta (17 March), a Charity Golf Tournament (23 March) and a Charity Gala Dinner (6 April) to raise an endowment for a student Bursary and Award to help needy residents. I look forward to your participation in these celebrations!

29th JCRC

Stronger Between, Stronger Beyond. These are the 4 words that my 29th JCRC held closely for the entire academic year of 2016/17. Indeed, the past year has been a fulfilling and memorable year for all of us, especially for the #LYLC Year 4s. Our Golden Years. These 3 words have aptly described what each and every Eusoffian has strived to achieve for the past year. From IHG Champions to a sold-out show for Dance Production, these achievements are a testament to what being a Eusoffian is all about. And these achievements could not have been made possible if not for all the hard work put in by all of you. Firstly, I would like to thank the 28th JCRC for building the foundation of Eusoff Hall now. With the

changes that were brought about by Jian Ler’s JCRC, such as the new point system and the Block System for EHOC, it has benefitted Eusoff immensely. I am glad that my 29th

JCRC has kept the integrity of the system, and has built upon it for the past year. Thanks for guiding each of my JCRC members as most of us were new to such a big role in Eusoff Hall. All the achievements that we had in the past year would not have been possible if without you, the 28th JCRC. Next, I would like to thank my 29th JCRC for all the joy that you have brought me for the past year. Thanks for letting me get to know each and every one of you for my last year in Eusoff Hall. It has been a joy and pleasure to have this opportunity to lead the 29th JCRC, and

24

25

Our Golden Years. These 3 words have aptly described what each and every Eusoffian has strived to achieve for the past year.

I hope that all of you managed to learn something from this past year. To Aaron, my fellow year 4 with me, I think that we are the few crazy ones to take up such a big role in Eusoff Hall for our final year. Thanks for helping me out and walking our final year in Eusoff Hall together with me. From Exposure Camp in 2013 till now, thanks for sticking by and helping me out when I needed you. To my year 3s, Tahmid, Hanzhi, Yu Jie, Jiana and Keira, thanks for stepping up when Eusoff needed you to. Each of you is capable of achieving great things, and yet you allowed me to lead you in the 29th JCRC. For that, I am truly humbled and I thank you for showing me the different perspectives that all of you have. To my year 2s, Kevin, Sam and Christine, I am proud of you. I always think that it’s crazy for a Year 2 to join JCRC because of the steep

learning curve that accompanies it. But you have handled it so well, and with the three of you, the 29th

JCRC is filled with energy, laughter and surprises with all of the meetings that we had. Thank you for letting me learn from you, and for brightening up my final year. I would also like to thank the SCRC for the past year. In my opinion, I think that we have the most supportive and solid bunch of SCRC among all the other Halls. With the new addition of Prof Titima, it is safe to say that Eusoff Hall really boasts the best SCRC as compared to the other Halls. I really enjoyed all of the SCRC-JCRC meetings that we have held for the past year. Thanks for guiding my JCRC along, and for being so approachable whenever we need help from any of you. I have truly learnt a lot from all of you, and you have been

26

like the “parents” in Hall for us. Also, I would like to thank the Hall Office for the past year. Thank you to Ms Rashidah, Ms Jalilah, Ms Maryann, Ms Nisha, Ms Abidah, Ms Vivien and Mr Azrin for helping my JCRC with almost everything for the past year. Whenever we approach you with any difficulties and questions, you never get irritated and push us away. Similarly, I believe that our Hall Office is one of the best among all the other Halls. This is because all of you are patient, and willing to guide us along the way. With that, my JCRC and I are thankful for all the guidance along the way. To my committee heads, captains and choreographers, thank you for all your hard work and effort for the past year. It is not easy to take up a leadership position in Eusoff, because it is hard and challenging

27

to guide those who are the same age with you, or even some who are older than you. It is not easy to gain the respect of your peers and inspire them to a common cause with you. It is not easy to draft out proposals, to plan trainings, or to choreograph steps, while having to juggle with school work at the same time. Thanks for listening to me and I hope I have managed to impact your lives in one way or another for the past year. Thanks for contributing to the golden year. Lastly, allow me to dedicate a paragraph to the #LYLCs of my batch. We are one of the biggest batches to have stayed all 4 years of our university life in Eusoff Hall. From losing IHG in our freshmen year to getting it back in our final year, the taste of victory is sweeter than ever. Thanks for staying and fighting to get back what we had, for showing the juniors the way in Eusoff, for

the passion, dedication and hard work given to Eusoff Hall. We may not be very close to one another, but we will support one another in times of need. Thanks for giving me such fond memories in Eusoff Hall. Have you wondered what would life be if you did not stay in Eusoff Hall? Sometimes, the Year 4s and I would come together to think about this hypothetical scenario. Sure, your grades might have been better, or you might have been able to find something else outside. But all these are just “might have”. Staying in Eusoff Hall has given me a chance to choreograph again, a chance to be on court with my teammates, a chance to lead all 485 of you. Staying in Eusoff Hall has allowed me to know people whom I would hold close to my heart even as I graduate into the working world. Staying in Eusoff Hall has brought me joy,

laughter and fun throughout my four years. Thank you Eusoff Hall for the past 4 years. With that, my 29th JCRC leaves Eusoff Hall Stronger Between, Stronger Beyond.

VicePresident

AARON TAN

29th JCRC

When I first considered to take up the position of Vice President (VP) in my final year in NUS, it seemed like a crazy idea. Looking back, it is one of the best decisions I made in Eusoff. #LYLC This journey had truly been a rewarding and humbling one. I decided to step up as VP because I wanted to contribute back to Eusoff after all the fond memories and experiences she gave me. Eusoff is a like second home to me. In fact, in the past four years, I can safely say that I spent more time here than at home. There’s something about Eusoff that makes me look forward to coming back each time I leave. Something about the people and the activities that take place in Eusoff. When we first came together as

the 29th, we were really a chapalang group of people, all with different backgrounds. However, after our bonding trips, GEL and the JCRC Team Challenge, I knew that we were going to be a team to be reckoned with. We had a clear vision of what we wanted to achieve and how we were going to achieve them. We were in a great position after all that the 28th JCRC has done and we intended to consolidate all that they have put in place and strive for excellence in both the sports and cultural aspects. We wanted to win the IHG Gold, achieve a full house for EHDP and last but not least, become a bonded 29th. I am really delighted that we were able to achieve all of our goals in our term.

30

31

#LYLC This journey had truly been a rewarding and humbling one.

However, we would not be able to achieve our goals on our own. I would like to send my gratitude to the many people who have played a part in my stint in Eusoff. Without whom, Eusoff would not have been such a great place for me. Firstly, I would like to think the Master, the RFs and the Hall Office for all the guidance and support. I have learnt to see things from different perspectives and know where they are coming from. Thanks for always showing us support in all the ideas that we have and giving suggestions on what can be done better. Next, I would like to thank the DP Producers, Daniel and Shing Eng. Thank you for doing such a great

job and letting me have no worries throughout the course of the DP journey. Congratulations on achieving a full house for EHDP. Without the two of you, that would never have been possible. Thank you. To my fellow D blockers throughout my stay in Eusoff, thank you for tolerating my nonsense. You guys are the reason I stayed in Eusoff every year. Without all the supper jios and late-night talks, hall life will not be the same. Thank you for letting me remember who I am serving when I joined the JCRC. And last but not least, I would like to thank everyone in 29th JCRC for making my final year in Eusoff so memorable and fulfilling. Thanks

for being so genuine and easy to talk to. If I was given a choice to join the JCRC again with all of you, I would definitely agree in a heartbeat. It was tough but we did it. :’) All the best, 30th JCRC! Strive on for Excellence and Harmony!

32

33

TAHMID NASIF

VicePresident

Eusoff is not just a Hall, It is our Home

29th JCRC

I was blessed to have been elected to the 29th JCRC. The journey that we had was not easy. Being in this position, I had the unique opportunity to be the ambassador for Eusoff when interacting with corporations and other leaders in NUS. This, combined with a birds’ eye view of all the issues that we need to solve, led to a very rewarding JCRC experience. Our JCRC was made up of people of various backgrounds. When we look back, we laugh at the fact that we did not really know each other when we started our journey. The best thing about my team is that the vision we had for Eusoff was the same. This led to us

working extremely well together. The job scope of a vice president varies with the needs of the hall. I took over as the Sponsorship and Marketing head from my predecessor as we felt that we can step it up further this year. There is still a long way to go in terms of our foundation but I feel we are making a step towards the right direction. I had the absolute privilege to oversee SPT this year. It was a pleasure seeing so many new initiatives held by committee. My advice to anyone taking up this role would be to always have an open mind and to constantly question old methods. Eusoff is not just a Hall. It is our Home. The fight for our home has begun. Let’s do this. Together.

34

Honorary General Secretary

CHRISTINE FU

29th JCRC

Joining the JCRC was never in my books when I entered Eusoff Hall, but it is now a chapter of life I will never forget. Having come from a different background than most in hall, I didn’t think that I would be able to take up the position of being the Honorary General Secretary, or any leadership position in Hall. Firstly, I probably wasn’t the most capable person when I started out my journey in Eusoff Hall, but the people around me certainly played a part in my growth towards becoming a better person, fitted with skills that is required for such a monumental role. The thought of working in the JCRC was daunting to begin with, but

because Eusoff has played such an important role in my university life, it was only right that I think of how I can contribute to the community when I can. Our time in Hall will fly by faster than we think, it is in us to step out to do what we can for Hall. Without Eusoff, I would not have made the friends that I am sure that will last me a lifetime, nor will I have the amazing experience of working with my JCRC. Although I was very lacking in some areas when it comes to Hall, I am very thankful for my fellow JCRC members for their support and constant guidance. Although I never imagined myself to be part something so big, I am very grateful to have had the opportunity to

36

37

Joining the JCRC was never in my books when I entered Eusoff Hall, but it is now a chapter of life I will never forget.

work with the 29th JCRC. I am very grateful to have been part of this team. With every member of the JCRC bringing something different to the table, we could emulate the hall environment within our own committee. Despite all our differences, we have become a team that has worked well together, and creating bonds that will last, even as some of us graduate from Hall.

It is up to us to start what we want to do, to begin a legacy that we will leave. If anyone reading this is sitting on the fence, thinking about whether you should do something that you think is way too big for you, I would say “just go for it”, because you never know how it will turn out. I would have definitely regretted it if I missed out on such an amazing year with the JCRC.

The experience in the JCRC has changed my perspective about hall life, and has taught me many things that I will bring with me, even when I graduate. Working in the JCRC, a committee that oversees most activities in Hall, we are constantly reminded of the bigger picture, and that we should always keep that in mind. We learn that changes don’t happen in a single day, and not even in a single year.

It has been a phenomenal year for Eusoff, and definitely a year to remember for me. To my JCRC, I am eternally grateful. Although we come from different places, and different areas of residential life, it has been our common pursuit of something greater for the place that we find home in that has brought us together.

38

39

Performing Arts Director

KEVIN YEO

29th JCRC

When Wei Sheng first asked me to join the 29th JCRC, I said no. At the back of my head, I haboured the idea that I was just a quiet year 2 who had barely seen enough of hall to set a direction, let alone pave the way for Eusoff in the year to come. It was a month before school reopened when the role of PAD was still vacant when I decided to come in to help hold the role until someone more suitable stepped up into the role. Instead of someone else stepping up into the role, I found myself being inspired by the 29th JCRC to grow into the role of PAD. When we first began, I remember finding a common cause with the 29th. We wanted to make Eusoff a Hall of Champion, a hall

with a brand that meant something beyond NUS. My dream for Eusoff is that it would become a place that became a core of its resident’s identity, so much so that when they introduced themselves it would precede things such as their faculty and major. Of course, the journey would not have been possible without all the cultural heads: Yong Hao, Sher Ney, Joey, Shawn, Le’schane, Dat, Kenneth. Thank you all for guiding me in my journey as a PAD. Without all of you I would have been at a loss of how to go about managing all the performing arts. Each of you have helped to bring Eusoff Performing Arts a step closer to our goal of becoming an environment

So cheers to Eusoff Hall, where we walk in as individuals, and walk out as a family of champions.

for newcomers to pursue their passion and turn into professionals. Not forgetting the 29th JCRC. Without a doubt my second year in Eusoff would have been nothing without all of you. Wei Sheng, for being our compass and helping to put things in perspective for all of us, you taught me how to manage the needs and wants of those around us and make sure that everyone walked away happy. Aaron, for helping us not to take ourselves too seriously and look on the lighter side of life. Tahmz, for your everlasting passion for Eusoff, which has kept our passion going time and time again. Jiana, for always chasing us for all the media requests and dates we owe, you always covered for us whenever we got caught up in our work.

Sam, for always looking out for the JCRC and our welfare, without you we would never have sustained or had as much fun through our tour as JCRC. Christine, for keeping us on our toes and making sure we kept to our deadlines. Hanzhi, for helping us keep track of our budgets and being a listening ear for all our troubles along the way. Keira, for setting the standard for the social services in Eusoff, I still can recall how you would come back to hall to help your committees out when they were late on a deadline or needed help. Yu Jie, for the understanding of how the performing arts and sports had to work together for the better of Eusoff, plus all the treats for coming late. The late night meetings and conversations will always be part of my fondest memories of hall and I am glad to

have spent them with the 29th. Hall has always been a place to create memories. It is in hall where some of us learn how to use washing machines for the first time, it is where some of us first start dancing and singing and it is where some of us first pick up sports. To this day, I have yet to be able to imagine a day without Hall in my life. So cheers to Eusoff Hall, where we walk in as individuals, and walk out as a family of champions.

42

43

Sports Director

TAY YU JIE

29th JCRC

After a long and arduous journey, I am happy that we managed to take back the title of IHG Champions – Overall. Not only did we just take back the title of Overall Champions, we emerged champions for both the male and female categories as well, ending the IHG season with a treble victory of 138 points. I remembered my first year in Eusoff was one year after Eusoff lost her IHG championship title streak. I remembered how the seniors were always talking about IHG, telling us how important and special IHG is and how they wanted to win back the championship title. Each year we did better but for three years, the championship title continued to slip through our fingertips.

This victory is only possible because of our resilience and desire to win. I am very grateful for all the seniors who have put in their time and effort to nurture the younger generations of Eusoffians, keeping the Eusoff spirit alive even after all these years, despite setbacks and failures. Eusoff may not always have people who are the best players in the court or on the field, but we have people of the best hearts. I hope we can keep this spirit with us and be role models for the future generations to come. Serving as the Sports Director for the 29th JCRC was definitely not an easy task. It would not have been possible without the unwavering support from the 29th.

44

45

“

IHG is not just about winning. It is about winning as One Eusoff and not giving up in face of challenges.

Thank you all for making late night meetings fun and entertaining despite the workload. It is an honor for me to be part of the 29th and I believe we could have only achieved so much because of each and everyone in the team. Lastly, I would like to thank all my SMC members, my main committee, and especially Arun and Ting Fang. You guys are the unsung heroes behind the IHG and sports scene in Eusoff. I regret not having the time to know every single

one of you but all the events could only go so well because of you all. IHG is not just about winning. It is about winning as One Eusoff and not giving up in face of challenges. This Eusoff spirit is what defines us and I hope it is something in the blood of the many generations of Eusoffians to come.

46

47

Social Services Director

KEIRA KWEK

29th JCRC

I had never imagined myself taking up this role and I would like to thank Clarence for this. “You know, sometimes all you need is 20 seconds of insane courage. Thank you for igniting the power of courage in me, allowing me to see through all the obstacles which were ahead of me back then. Not forgetting my proposer, Cheryl, for believing and supporting me throughout my journey. And to all those who have stood by me all these while, thank you for helping me in one way or another. I am extremely thankful to have worked alongside committee heads who were very capable in each of their own individual ways.

For Eusoff Voluntary Corps (EVC), I was constantly worried about not being able to meet our desired target. Discussions took place to come up with ideas and strategies to ensure that we were on our way to achieve this goal. At the end of the day, I am confident and proud to say that our efforts have paid off and it was really inspiring to witness how far my respective committee heads, namely Sarah (MINDS), Sher Ney & Siqi (Salvation Army) and Sidai & Wencan (Elderly Services), are willing to go, just to ensure that our events ran smoothly. To my Expeditions heads, thank you Jolene, Rianna & Yang Jun for making the decision to step up

48

and commit to the leadership positions that you all held. I am really pleased as it was not an easy decision to make, yet you set your mind to lead the team together. It was a journey filled with ups and downs but regardless of it all, I sincerely hope that all of you took away something that you could hold close to your heart. As always, I am amazed by the innovative ideas that #GreenCommBestComm comes up with and I feel proud to be a part of initiatives such as the Terrarium workshop (which was a big hit last year) and the “DABAO SMART!” project. Thank you, Kai Wen & Gladys, for carrying out the Terrarium workshop again this year and constantly racking your brains to come up with cre-

49

ative ideas. I am very heartened to see how Eusoff was extremely supportive and receptive towards this new green movement. AY2016/17 was certainly a challenging year for me but it eventually became the highlight of my Eusoff journey. Deciding to step up as a SSD changed the entire experience of my third year. It might have been a rather mundane year for me back then without this opportunity. At first, I was quite uncertain of what lies ahead of me when I decided to join the JCRC but it turns out that we could create a synergy with 10 diverse personalities and formed a strong team that worked together and brought Eusoff to greater heights. Getting to know these 9 highly competent 29th JCRC mem-

bers has been my honour and it was certainly a privilege and pleasure working alongside them. Finally, an advice to all the incoming freshies, decide what you wish to achieve throughout your stay in Eusoff and set your mind to do it. Never let the fear of striking out keep you from playing the game.

“‘

A year from now, you will wish you had started today. I am glad that I did.

50

51

Finance Director

LIU HANZHI The past year has definitely gone by too quickly, but it is probably my best year in Eusoff so far. It was definitely not smooth sailing, having to juggle the many commitments inside and outside of hall. There were many hiccups along the way, even as of now, at the point of writing this. But that’s what makes it so memorable and fulfilling! However, I wouldn’t have survived the year as the 29th Finance Director without the help from everyone.

29th JCRC

First, I would like to thank my Finance Committee. During the interim period, I had to do everything finance-related by myself and it was really not easy. So I was really happy when the Finance

Committee was finally formed and we started work. You guys really helped to lift a huge burden off my shoulders. It may not be an easy, or rewarding job, but your work really plays a huge part in the running of almost all events in hall. I am very grateful to the 6 of you who stayed with me throughout the year although I may have nagged quite a bit. Thank you for helping me with the tedious task of checking, tracking, photocopying and filing forms. Next, to all the treasurers, thank you for taking up this not glamorous, not really fun, but super important role in your respective committees. It is tiring to chase someone all day for just that one signature or one bank statement,

52

53

There were many hiccups along the way, even as of now, at the point of writing this. But that’s what makes it so memorable and fulfilling!

especially when it is not even for your own money. You guys really make our jobs much easier by collating the receipts and doing the forms. Also, thank you all for being so understanding when there are problems with the forms or when the money takes a while to come back. And of course, my term would not have been possible without the support from the hall office, especially Ms. Maryann and Ms. Nisha. Thank you for answering my endless stream of questions and being so patient with me. I still remember how sometimes I would go to the hall office several days in a row or even a few times in the same day to ask the same questions over again because I just cannot get it. And I really learnt to appreciate you

guys after hearing what the other halls’ finance directors have to do. And lastly, I would like to thank the other 9 members of the 29th JCRC. Mentioning you guys last cause must save the best for the last! It is always fun with you guys around and meetings are never boring. Actually, it may be the only times when I look forward to meetings. And although we have fun, we never fail to get things done. I also really appreciate and respect the hard work and dedication everyone puts into their respective roles and how we would always help each other out, or at least, try to. I wouldn’t trade you guys for any other team to work with. And just thanks for everything!

54

55

Media Director

XU JIANA

29th JCRC

It was not easy to make the decision to run for Media Director one year ago. However, I am glad that I had the courage to step up at that point of time, such that this year has become so memorable and unique in my university life. This year would definitely have been very difficult without any member of our 29th JCRC. I am very grateful that I could get this opportunity to work in such an excellent team. With your company, late night meetings are never long or boring. No matter what challenges we are facing, difficulties can always be solved with effort from each of us. Thank you for always being responsible, dedicating so much effort and performing well

in each of your respective role. Thank you for always being supportive and helpful, giving me one hand whenever I need. Thank you for always being considerate and inclusive, 29th JCRC to me is definitely more than just a committee, it means friends and family. And for sure, the support I get from my EusoffWorks co-heads, Yizhe and Yuelin, is also very essential to make everything possible. Thank you for consistently supporting me as friends instead of just committee heads. It is not easy to ensure each media request is covered with limited manpower. It is not easy to manage a large committee with over 80 members. However, it turns out that all my concerns are

56

57

needless, and you guys did a great job. I really appreciated your dedication to EusoffWorks, and it is my pleasure to work along with you.

“

I am glad that I had the courage to step up at that point of time, such that this year has become so memorable and unique.

Last but not least, I would like to dedicate many thanks to Ms. Maryann and IT junior officers, Song Kai and Chi Thanh. At the beginning of this academic year, we are facing a serious and urgent issue regarding out hall website. And it was definitely not an easy job to build up a new Eusoff Hall online

portal from the scratch. However, after rounds of meetings with OSA and endless internal testing runs, we made it happen eventually and publicize to each hall resident. Thank you everyone, for guiding me and supporting me all along the journey. It is so fantastic and fruitful because of your company.

Student Affairs Director

SAMANTHA CHEW

29th JCRC

Another eventful academic year has passed, and what an amazing GOLDEN year it has turned out to be! Taking up the role as a Student Affairs Director has been a challenging yet fulfilling journey. If you asked me in Year 1, I definitely would have not envisioned myself to take up any role in the JCRC in Year 2. I had my fair share of doubts with regards to my inexperience and little understanding about hall as compared to many other seniors. But I was thankful to have the support from my friends in hall, as well as the guidance from my fellow JCRC. Although there were times when my phone would not stop notifying me with requests for the Blue Oyster, pool

room, function hall, problems with the printer and questions about mails, at the end of the day, I’m still grateful to have been given the opportunity to serve Eusoffians. As I write this message, I realize that I will be ending my term as the Student Affairs Director, but not without taking memories of shared experiences with me. This year has been special because I have shared it with the community of Eusoff and this very community has enriched me. Indeed, there were many times when I felt overwhelmed by the workload and demands. However, it has made me realized that having people come to you and asking favors could actually be a blessing in disguise. I

Eusoff has showcased my strengths such that I could use them to benefit others; and has compensated for my weaknesses such that I could grow and be better.

would like to take this opportunity to thank everyone that has approached me during my term because at the end of the day, I know that I have done my job as a SAD to cater to the needs of the residents. Of course, there were instances where I was unable to help, and for those who I was not able to, my sincerest apologies. With that said, my term would not have been smooth sailing without the help of some individuals! I would like to thank my blockheads, Jacelyn, Prischelle, Arun, Daniel and Billy, for managing their blocks to the best of their capabilities. Also, I would like to extend my gratitude to my HPB heads, Jiahong and Jacelyn, for ensuring that events were carried out successfully. It has definitely been tough on you guys but I am really impressed with your leadership skills and commit-

ment in producing quality works. Lastly, to my SRC head, Yuki, thank you for your time and effort in the committee. Most of the time, SRC has been under-appreciated for the works it has done, but despite that, it is good to see you pushing through and ensuring welfare for the residents was provided! It has been a year of mistakes made, lessons learnt, and all of my takeaways would not have been possible without the support of the SCRC and Hall Office. Thank you for always trusting me and helping me out when I am faced with any problems. It has been a joy working alongside you guys! It has been a great year and probably the ones that benefitted most from this would be the 29th JCRC. Coming together was a choice but staying together definitely isn’t

one. Ten different individuals with varying tempers could actually work together perfectly, and that is what made this journey much easier and one that was filled with joy and laughter. Although we did got worn out as the weeks and months got by, knowing that everyone is working for the bigger picture and eventual goals together sustained me. Thank you for taking care of me throughout this journey and to our boss Chng Weisheng, it has been an honor to work with you! Eusoff has showcased my strengths such that I could use them to benefit others; and has compensated for my weaknesses such that I could grow and be better. Can’t wait to see what is in store for Eusoff for the years to come!

EUSOFF HALL ORIENTATION CAMP

74

EHOC is one of the most memorable events all Eusoffians go through, as it represents their first steps into Eusoff Hall. EHOC 16/17 marked a time of change, where for the first time in a long while, the EHOC Committee decided to revamp the entire camp structure. EHOC 16/17 was by far unique compared to all previous EHOCs as well as to all other camps in the university. It was definitely a tall task trying to reform a long established camp outline but the committee’s dividends soon paid off when the camp turned out to be one of the best camps the freshmen attended. Just to portray how unique the camp was, camp days started no earlier than lunch time, the comparatively shady Jurong East Swimming Complex replaced the scorching trip to Sentosa, and tyre flipping was incorporated into the new and improved Eusoff Challenge where running was just the tip of the iceberg. The 4 days of fun and excitement ended off with a sentimental barbeque night where freshmen came to terms with the embarking of a year-long stay in our great, great hall.

77

FLAG DAY

76

Eusoff Hall Flag Day is part of the NUS annual Flag Day event. On this day, Eusoffians headed out at the break of dawn to all over Singapore to canvass for donations from the public for our beneficiaries, MINDS Clementi Training and Developmental Centre. The funds raised will go to offsetting their operation costs and to purchasing new equipment for the centre. It was a day filled with passion and determination as Eusoffians strived to fill up as many tin cans as possible, all in the name of charity. A lot of effort was put in by the Eusoff Flaggers in explaining the causes to which donors were contributing towards but their efforts soon paid off as soon as members of the public magnanimously dug through their pockets and opened their wallets. Before long, the day came to an end and Eusoffians started streaming back to hall, proud of the impact they have brought to MINDS Clementi Training Development Centre, our very own beneficiary. The Flag Committee themselves organized an internal competition within Eusoff Hall to give out prizes to whoever had the heaviest tin cans- an unprecedented yet creative way to motivate our Flaggers throughout the day! A flag appreciation supper will soon be organized in the upcoming weeks to reveal the winners of the competition, where attractive prizes will be given away. Stay tuned for it!

79

RAG DAY 2017

78

The Actual Rag performance was part of the NUSSU Rag and Flag Day, held on 6 August 2016. Eusoff Hall came together to put up a combined rag performance at UTown Green titled Robots vs humans. The three-month journey to actual show day was a lengthy one, but looking back it was one filled with nostalgia coupled with many ups-and-downs. From five-day work weeks which stretched to sixday work weeks, the last few nights leading up to rag day with everyone up in the wee hours of the morning making final preparations - the committee was busy making adjustments to the floats and the dancers were adding glitter to their costumes - and the whole area a minefield of glitter, paint, tools and props. All in the hope that all their efforts would pay off eventually. Sheares Hall and Kent Ridge Hall were our strongest opponents on a Rag Day which saw competition as intense as the stinging afternoon sun. There turned out to be 3 halls getting Silver and 1 hall claiming the elusive Gold. Soon enough, the emcee started off with the first hall achieving silver- Kent Ridge Hall! Deafening silence filled the large patch of grass where the audience in blue were gathered, accompanied by relief and immense joy in all our yellow hearts. Not long later, it ended up boiling down to the last two halls which were still left unmentioned- Sheares and Eusoff, with only one golden spot available. “And for the last hall achieving silver- Sheares Hall!” The patch of grass field with yellow instantly erupted in thundering Euphoria! The entire crowd went jumping up and down in amazement and disbelief, like as if it was a dream come true. Tears of joy started streaming down the faces of many, and even the smudged make-up could not conceal in any way the immense sense of pride and happiness in all our yellow faces. Weisheng, our JCRC President, immediately led our trademark “I BELIEVE!” cheer which was first introduced during Senior Camp and EHOC, drowning out even the initially unmatched voices of the emcees through the microphone. It was indeed an afternoon of celebration thereafter for an amazing day to remember for many years to come. We are all now looking forward to Rag Day 2017, where we will defend our Gold.

GATHERING OF EUSOFF LEADERS

82

GEL camp was held in Pulai Springs Resort this year during the weekend of week 4. Student leaders from Eusoff hall were gathered there and the main topic of student outreach was being discussed. It was heartening to witness every single Eusoff leader not just voicing out his or her opinions on the problems faced with regards to outreach, but also value-adding the discussion by offering suggestions as to how we could improve. The gap between the SCRC and Hall Office was also bridged by having a Q&A session, where the SCRC and Hall Office answered all the concerns that the leaders had such as the recent increase in fridge usage prices, budget and hall funds allocation, as well as future upgrading plans. Leaders also discussed how to deal with members in various different scenarios, be it disrespectful freshies or nonchalant seniors, which would inevitably preempt them for the challenging yet equally as rewarding task ahead. And of course, after all the serious discussion came play time as well. Above work, leaders also had the chance to bond over a game of pool, a relaxed swim session, as well as the late night chit chatting sessions in their apartments. The scrumptious buffets that were being catered was a refreshing break from hall food as well! With new friendships forged and existing synergies aligned, our Eusoff leaders are well-prepared for yet another memorable year ahead!

85

NIGHT CYCLING

84

It was a whole night of fun and bonding with your friends, to venture out from Eusoff to cycle from Pasir Ris park to ECP. An exciting line up of programs during the night including fun games, various food stops, and also not forgetting the memories forged as you watch the sunrise from Marina Barrage.

87

CULTURAL NIGHT

86

It was yet again the time of the year where Eusoff celebrates everything cultural. It was definitely a night to remember, as talents from the Eusoff Bands, Eusoff Dance Crew, Eusoff Choir and Eusoff Acapella took centre stage in a series of dazzling performances deserving of much appreciation and admiration. The highlight of the night, however, was definitely the annual block performances! Everyone watched in anticipation as each block took turns to fill up the stage. This year, seniors are encouraged to participate in the performances along with the freshies in order to boost intra-block bonding. This idea turned out to be a success, evident from the joyful faces of Year 3 and 4 seniors dancing and acting along with their younger blockmates. A block continued their plethora of cultural wins by taking cultural champions for the block performances with their humorous yet well-executed performance. Congratulations to them! The night ended with the performances by the Eusoff Bands, all of which were amazing in their own genres. It was a spectacular night, a clear justification that the cultural scene in Eusoff will undoubtedly continue beaming with increasing vibrancy in the years to come.

DR(EH)SS UPZ DAY

90

For the first time in Halls of NUS history, Eusoffians were rewarded for wearing their Eusoff-based shirts to school on the unprecedented Eusoff Dr(EH)ss Upz Day! It was a day to remember, as hundreds of Eusoffians flooded NUS with their Eusoff shirts. In exchange, they were greeted with Cornetto Red Velvet ice-creams, in all the canteens of NUS as well as at Utown during lunchtime. At the booths where the ice-creams were distributed, speakers with music as well as aesthetically appealing sign-boards in the shape of t-shirts added to the fun and exciting atmosphere. In order to boost publicity and outreach of the hall, Eusoffians were encouraged to post a photo on Instagram after receiving their ice-cream. This initiative proved to be successful, as social media were flooded with posts promoting Eusoff as well as the event. It was interesting to see residents from other halls and the residential colleges willing to post and promote Eusoff as well. Overall, it was an amazing day with numerous smiles evident on many Eusoffian faces. Eusoffians all over NUS definitely felt the Eusoffian spirit and pride on this eventful day.

93

EHDP 2017 DEPRAVITY

92

It was yet again time of the year when Eusoff Hall unites in the annual EHDP. This year, the show entitled ‘Depravity’ was a showing of a more horrific world where human-mutated zombies exist. With various nerve-wrecking and heart-stopping scenes which would get the audience at the edge of their seats, EHDP 2017 was definitely yet another spectacular masterpiece for the audience to enjoy. However, this show definitely did not come easy. A production taking almost an entire year of planning and coordinating, EHDP was a grand product of much sweat, blood and tears. This was especially made more tiresome with the Dance Production taking place right in the middle of the Inter-Hall Games. Despite the given plight, all dancers (a large proportion of which were sportsmen and sportswomen as well) still worked hard for all their individual items and the main cast spent almost every night rehearsing their lines and mastering their expressions. The EHDP committee worked their hearts out as well, just to make sure the entire journey was smooth sailing and enjoyable for all.

95

EHDP 2017 DEPRAVITY

94

All the hard-work put in eventually reaped its benefits. For the first time in at least 10 years, EHDP 2017 achieved full-house ticket sales and much hype, building from the previous year’s success, much to the delight and satisfaction of the EHDP committee. Due to this spur of excitement, the dancers and actors put up an extremely good show on the night itself, and it was definitely one of the best productions most of the audience have ever seen.

EUSOFF BASH 2017- retrolicious

Eusoff Bash is an annual event where Eusoffians gather together to witness the crowning of Eusoff Hall King and Queen. This event wraps up the Inter-hall Games and Dance Production season for the semester with a spectacular pragram line-up and after-party.

nus open day

98

As the Academic Year once again slowly draws to an end, it is once again the time of the year to attract the next breed of capable and talented Eusoffians into the place we call our home. And what better way to spread our reach than the NUS Open House 2017! This year, Eusoff HPB once again worked tirelessly to put up a good show for potential incoming freshmen in a bid to attract the most suitable ones into Eusoff. Positioned alongside the booths from the other 5 halls of NUS, it was not difficult to observe that Eusoff Hall’s booth was clearly distinct with its shade of yellow, portraying HPB’s success in making our booth stand out compared to our counterparts from other halls. It was also not difficult to observe mesmerized freshmen leaving the Eusoff Hall booth with smiles on their faces, a clear sign of enjoyment through communicating with our helpful and ever so approachable yellow seniors. To further extend our reach, one of our Eusoff Bands also put themselves out there, performing to the vast crowd in Utown, displaying our hall’s abundance in the performing arts scene as well. Their performance was met with huge applause from the crowd. Our residents also did a flashmob performance in the middle of Utown as well, further accentuating our strong dance culture here in Eusoff. Open Day 2017 was definitely a success for Eusoff Hall.

HALL AWARENESS WEEK

102

For the 2nd year in a row, Eusoff Hall Awareness Board (HAB) once again organized and executed Hall Awareness Week, a week-long event to educate Eusoffians’ about the rich heritage of our great hall, while at the same time reminiscing the highlights of Eusoff Hall life this past academic year. Varying from the previous year, however, was Eusoff HAB’s intention and determination to improve the event by multiple notches. This is perhaps best encapsulated by the organizing of an official National Record-breaking Day on the final day of Hall Awareness Week, Eusoff Day, for the largest pot of Rojak by weight. The structure of Hall Awareness Week was similar to the previous year’s. Day 1 was Sports Day, where Eusoffians were treated to Running M(EH)n 2.0, to reminisce one of the first few games that us Eusoffians played together this academic year during EHOC 2016- Eusoff Running Man. The twist, however, was the way in which Eusoffians participated in this version of the game. Although there were only 2 teams officially playing the game and running all around the hall, the proceedings of the game was livestreamed in real time to all other residents who were eating their dinner in the Dining Hall. This was made even more exciting since the live-streamed view on the Dining Hall screen was in 1st person, effectively capturing the triumphs, distraught and near-misses by the few people participating in the game. This new concept was extremely well-re-

ceived, with all residents in the dining hall actually putting their dinner on hold to look on in anticipation towards the plight of the players on the screen. Day 2 was Service Day, a day to celebrate Eusoff Hall’s strong culture in Service and Giving, as seen from our involvement with aiding beneficiaries from EVC, MINDS and Salvation Army. Eusoff HAB purchased snacks, carriers, cards as well as stickers and started packing nicely-decorated gift packs for cleaners, hall office staff, the security guard and even Master in appreciation for their undying service to our hall and to us residents. Through this activity, Eusoff HAB aims to inculcate the spirit of giving and appreciation, a crucial part of Eusoff Hall that we at times tend to miss. Also, Eusoff HAB gave residents the option to purchase these gift packs at very affordable prices along with a customized appreciation card to the friends they have made here in Eusoff Hall Day 3 was Dance Day, where Eusoff HAB organized and executed Eusoff Hall’s first ever dance battle. The most talented dancers from our hall were invited to partake in this unprecedented event and residents’ reception to this new unproven event was excellent. It was a night to remember as residents, moving on from just EHDP and Dance Uncensored, were exposed to an unfamiliar albeit interesting side of dance which is definitely something new for non-experienced dancers.

On the final day of Hall Awareness Week, Eusoff Day, Eusoff HAB decided to embed Eusoff Hall into the Singapore Book of Records by organizing an event like no other. The decision to break the Singapore Record for the largest pot of Rojak by weight was made in order to symbolize Eusoff Hall’s motto of Excellence (through the record-breaking event) and Harmony (through the largest pot of Rojak, a food for the community). The event was a huge success, with residents, alumni as well as even Master playing a crucial part in the addition of ingredients into the Rojak. And when Personnel from the Singapore Book of Records went on stage to officially verify that Eusoff Hall has indeed smashed the previous record of 76.2kg with an astounding 104kg, roars of applause filled the Dining Hall. It was indeed a moment to remember. While the Rojak was being distributed, Eusoffians also took part in the online Kahoot quiz to test our knowledge of Eusoff’s rich heritage. It was heartening to see a total of 63 participants joining the quiz, along with their looks of content, disbelief and even pride as they worked their brains trying to figure out bits and pieces of Eusoff’s rich history. Eusoff Day as well as the entire Hall Awareness Week was definitely an event to remember.

we strive to create a friendly environment where singers new and old forget their stress and unite in the music-making. Being in (EH)cappella opens the door for eusoffians to cultivate, and showcase their hidden talents; opportunities to learn proper singing techniques, beatboxing and performing live are aplenty! Some examples include performing in YST Music Conservatory and Caroling in town! Besides, you get to record your personal music video, how cool is that!

FRISBEE “Ultimate Frisbee is a unique sport unlike any other. Despite it being relatively new as compared to other sports, it fares equally well in terms of forming camaraderie and providing fun for all. In Eusoff Ultimate Frisbee, we aim to build a tight knit community that is able to forge a bond beyond Eusoffian years. After securing the Gold effortlessly in Inter Hall Games AY 16/17, we strive to continue achieving stellar results in the coming years. By joining Eusoff Ultimate Frisbee, students will get to benefit from learning a new and unique sport. Albeit different from others, we have a very welcoming community who is willing to teach and guide new players. In addition, being a mixed sport means that you get to learn tricks and tips from both genders and forge lasting relationships that will surely last for life. Dedication, perseverance and passion are just a few of the values that we wish to instil in our teammates. And of course, teamwork. Being a team sport means nobody is left behind – everybody works hard, and we work hard for everybody. We play Ultimate Frisbee for love, for ourselves. We play Ultimate Frisbee for each other, our teammates. We play the sport for Eusoffians, our family.”

ROAD RELAY “Running is not about being better than someone else, it’s about being better than you used to be.” This was the exact sentiment all the runners from the guys and girls team had going into race day, to better ourselves and clinch back the Road Relay titles. The night of the road relay event was the culmination of miles and miles of training and pain endured over the past few months. Despite the strong competition from traditional powerhouse KR, the girls eventually clinched back the title with a strong and powerful finish, while the guys came in a close second in a highly contentious race. Nonetheless, proud of you all for fighting your hearts out! We are extremely grateful for the experience and memories forged this past year by this bunch of talented runners. To the next batch, fight hard as always and bring both titles back to Eusoff!

We also focus a lot on teamwork and commitment so we’re not just playing for the hall but for the people that we train together with. To find out more, do check us out on instagram @eusoff_eunited.” “Soccer is mostly seen as a male sport and many girls do not get the chance to try it out before entering hall. We aim to provide a chance for Eusoff girls to experience this exciting sport, where no previous experience is required. Other than learning about the game and technical skills, our girls build up teamwork through trainings as well. We focus on having the soccer girls enjoy the training process while actually learning about the sport, rather than emphasizing on the outcome of winning.”

I took up my captaincy with the goal of claiming back our title but what I got out of this journey was far more than the Gold. Softball is not an easy sport to pick up, especially in span of mere 6 months but batch after batch, we see outstanding players emerging, superseding all expectations to become polished sportsmen. To me, this encapsulates the spirit of IHG as it fosters an environment where teammates help each other selflessly, striving to elevate the playing field. But beyond that, what is most important is the camaraderie forged between teammates and the passion for softball that was sparked within each player. These are the successes and fond memories that I wish to share with future batches to come, to continue playing as a family and keep legacy of Eusoff Softball thriving!”

TABLE TENNIS “Probably the most technical and skill-based sport you can ever find, table tennis trains the body as much as the mind. Eusoff Table Tennis aims to strive for nothing but the best in the inter-hall games, while at the same value the education and exposure of the sport to newcomers who have had no experience at all. Recreational table tennis sessions soon became popular among beginners, who partake in the sport out of sheer joy and thrill, rather than just competition in mind. We hope to expose as many Eusoffians, new and old, to this amazing sport as we feel that beneath the cloud of tireless training and intense focus, fun and enjoyment should still always remain the very core of what sport embodies. This is what we can and will offer to anyone interested to join in.” “The table tennis girls have managed to retain champions in IHG 16/17, after winning back the gold the first time after 3 years in IHG 15/16. It has been an enriching and fulfilling journey for the members, whom some have been part of the team since IHG 14/15. We were able to overcome our own insecurities with support, help and encouragement of each other, and play our best during each match. Precious bonds have been formed between the members and also the guys team, which we train with regularly. Table tennis has always been a crucial sport for Eusoff and we hope that there will be increasing interest for the sport in the hall!”

194

195

TAKRAW Eusoff Sepak Takraw (or simply Takraw) is one of the most undercovered and low profile sports in hall. As a uniquely Southeast Asian sport, takraw is only played among the halls as it has no inter-varsity or inter-faculty competitions. While the sport is only played by guys, interestingly, there have been many enquiries about the sport by girls in hall. Year in and out, we receive questions like ‘can girls join?’ or ‘why don’t they have a girls’ team?’. Although we are a small team, Eusoff Takraw is proud to be one of the most diverse sports in hall, with various nationalities like Thais, Vietnamese, Malaysians joining our sport. As such, through this sport, players often learn each other’s languages especially Vietnamese in recent years. Words and phrases like ‘aXXX’ or ‘VL’ are things we hear during trainings. We are perhaps also one of the most hardworking teams with 3 trainings a week, 3 hours each, making it a rather time-consuming sport. However, the Takraw boys are often bonded by this shared passion for the sport. And this could be seen during IHG where the boys fight with determination, courage and skills on the court. Hopefully, this unique sport will continue to feature in IHG for many years to come.

“For Eusoff Tennis (M) team 16/17, my main goal was to at the very least better our position last year (out in group stages) and of course to win the championship once we get through the group stages. Though we eventually fell short of our goal, achieving runner-ups in the competition, it was still an effort worthy of praise from the team. I also aimed to bring the team closer together through bonding, as even though tennis is commonly seen as an individual sport, the support and encouragement from teammates during match-play, as well as chemistry when playing doubles, is of paramount importance for the team to be successful.” “Joining Tennis has helped many Eusoffians acquire not only a set of specialized skills, but also earn a group of heartwarming friends. After going through countless trainings together, we have emerged stronger, better and definitely more bonded. Tennis is a team sport, but at the same time, an individual sport. Although we win collectively as a team, each point boils down to every individual. Despite the arduous fight alone when against the single’s opponent or together with your partner against the doubles, you know your teammates are always cheering you on to fight for every point at the sideline.”

Eusoff Hall Dance Production is an annual production that involves more than half of all the residents in the entire hall. It aims to bring Eusoffians together through the running of the whole production. It also serves as a platform for us to showcase our creative talents as well as organizational

and

management

skills. Apart from that, EHDP is also a yearly tradition which we will use as to improve and maintain relationships with our alumni. It serves as a platform for our youths from different backgrounds and skillsets to realize their potentials in the drama and dance arena. Many participate as first-timers, thus making EHDP a stepping-stone into uncharted territories. A professional performance held at the University Cultural Centre main hall, it presents our

As the first official Eusoff event happening in the academic year, Eusoff Hall Orientation Camp is the first impression the freshmen will get from the Hall. The camp (under EHOC Programmes) thus act as the integrating platform for seniors and freshmen to develop the Eusoff Spirit of Excellence and Harmony to become #oneusoff. By being part of this committee, members are exposed to much of event planning, and also to ensure the smooth flow of a well-organized event. Planning an unforgettable experience they had received when they were freshmen would allow them to be further bonded as committee members and also as Eusoffians.

FLAG COMM FLAG members will gain skills through organizing events. They will experience the planning process, which starts from the brainstorming of ideas to accessing the feasibility and finally the execution of the events. They will also work with external organisations and liaise with sponsors. Overall, it will be a meaningful and fulfilling journey for everyone. RAG COMM Eusoff’s participation in the annual NUS RAG & FLAG has been successful in recent years, clinching two gold awards and one silver award for her RAG performances in the past 3 years. The Eusoff Hall Orientation RAG Committee aims to provide an extremely good platform for incoming freshmen to pick up basic mass dance as well as form unbreakable bonds among dancers. We do this by providing the necessary backstage support in terms of floats and costumes. Along with the rest of the Eusoff Hall Orientation Committees, EHOC RAG aims to allow for better integration of freshmen into Hall Life through the Performing Arts.

Our vision is to create a community that provides sincere service with love, in hope to bring joy to, and empower both the intellectually disabled at MINDS Clementi and the volunteers themselves. Through sincere interactions with the intellectually disabled clients during the different activities that we plan in conjuction with the centre, students are exposed to an awareness of the community, and working with them. The activities the students carry out - swimming,

simple crafts, short trips out to learn social skills like purchasing items, or light sports - instill in them vast patience, a new and creative perspective of how these processes work, and ultimately find joy in the smallest moments.

The vision for the block was enjoyment, harmony and together as one Ablock. The goals that we set were simple and mainly, just doing to our best of ability to bring people in A Block together so that everyone becomes more bonded.

286

287

In the committee, the members are all tasked with an event to plan and carry out during the academic year. They can think freely and come out with any activities that they think will be suitable for the block. They need to make their own decisions on certain things and solve the challenges that they face together with the block head. Furthermore, they are also forced to be more responsible and outspoken to their level mates because they are also tasked with collection of money and the verifying of certain information.

“Home away from Home was the vision our committee stoodbehind during our service to block. We looked towards creating an inclusive and knitted family in B Block through many differentefforts from block suppers to basketball sessions. The committee, in attempt to embody what we would like to see from mour block, is formed by both seniors and freshmen who werelooking towards the same goal for the block. This academic year has provided the committee with many opportunities to bring our residents out of their rooms, and to mingle with one another.

Throughout their year of service to the block, members of the committee are able to look at the bigger picture before making decisions that would affect our 93 residents. They learn to manage their interpersonal skills through the need of the role to reach out to the many different residents that are under their care. Members also become more aware of the needs of the people around them, especially when it comes to suggesting things that would improve the community life here.

289

As C block comm, our aim was to ensure and allow all residents of C Block to enjoy and appreciate their stay in C Block. Our vision was to see a united block where strong friendships are forged and great memories are made.

290

291

Through events such as EHOC, IBG, block suppers, C block game, block chalet, Pantry Party, Tasty Tuesday and block gifts we wanted to make each and every C Blocker to feel valued and have fun.

Members benefit from decision making and planning activities on behalf of the entire block. Welfare is given, shown and in turn appreciated by the block, which gives members a sense of value and belonging. Responsibility and being trustworthy are two important values that are gained by the work done for the block when one is a good block comm member.

The block committee aims to build an inclusive and cohesive bock community through its activities. We hope to provide opportunities for block residents to gather and mingle with one another. The committee is present to provide welfare to residents, and is a driving force in organising block based activities. As part of the block committee, students are able to cultivate good interpersonal skills as they frequently interact with block residents and are key in the block’s feedback channel. This means reaching out to others who may be new, like those who might have joined us only in semester 2, or with exchange students. Members of the committee are one of the first few to break the ice with residents, thus are key in making the block a inclusive community.

Furthermore, with the recent initiative of Senior Treat Junior (STJ) and Junior Treat Senior (JTS) committee members are tasked to organise and plan for a block potluck, with “level” in the block contributing a dish. This teaches them how to manage people, and expectations, as well as simple budget planning and coordinating between people. This served as a good experience to see how activities are planned in hall, at a micro level.

293

Vision One Block, One Heart, One Eusoff Missions 1. Promote a closely knitted family culture among residences in E Block 2.
