achievements Well, all I can say is tough luck. Our team was, without a doubt, much stronger than the previous year. However, our line up really cost us a spot in the semis.

outstanding player(s) Sports

Everyone on the main team was outstanding because they played their hearts out even when the odds were not in our favour. Though I only have a small team of 7, I am thankful for each and every one of them. (Cheryl, Chow, Carren, June, Joceleen, Shu jia and Yan Qing)

Jake the dog: sucking at something is the first step to being sorta good at something, never give up.

advice for the next captain More passion and dedication will definitely go a long way.

outstanding player(s) Sports

Everyone in the team is outstanding for making it into the team. Everyone gave it their all when playing.

advice for the next captain This may be the most important moment of your life. Commit to it.

Like many racket sports, badminton is more individualistic. I hope the next captain can bond the team even more as well as increase the intensity of the training to bring the team to greater heights.

achievements

This was a fulfilling year for me as I stepped up to be the captain of the basketball team. I’ve always been the vice-captain, and there was always a fixed coach who will plan every single training and friendly for the team, so this is a new experience for me. I’ve learned a lot from my teammates, coach and friends throughout the year and it has helped develop me into a better person, I hope. The most memorable event for me this year was probably the basketball camp held during vacation. I think that it was most effective not just because of the general improvement in skill levels of each of the individual players but also forging camaraderie of the team as a whole. I am very proud of their efforts both individually and as a team. Most of the team were willing to sacrifice their overseas trips for coming back to train with the rest. The sheer amount of physical training throughout the camp would have been nigh impossible to survive if not for the constant encouragement of those present. It is through the constant bonding both on and off the court during this span of strenuous training that helped the camp, and the team, achieve greater heights.

Sports

We’ve had our ups and downs throughout the year, with many unexpected situations, but we pulled through and played our best during the IHG games. We all have grown individually and as a team. We came to realise that the team is only as good as the collective efforts of the players and their willingness to strive for one another. It does not matter who the captain or coach is as they are merely facilitators. In order to reach success, it has to be the team as a whole that makes a collective effort to push one another to greatness. So even though we didn’t make it to the finals this year, I hope everyone enjoyed themselves and the sport and that they will continue to play as Eusoff Basketball girls.

outstanding player(s)

We play ball not to win. We win so that we can play longer.

Special mentions to some people who had zero experience in basketball yet were strong enough to join us and even played for us in IHG 2014/15. They took time off their busy schedule to come for training, no matter how tired or how late they might be. I’m really proud of how committed they are towards the sport and of their progress. And to those that have basketball experience, thank you for guiding the rest. Lester and I would have so much more to do if you girls weren’t there to help. We really saw you (us) grow as a team and we’re really happy hehe! Oh and before I forget, I’m also glad that we had Jason Fong as our Team Manager. He was present for most of our trainings, inclusive of vacation training and the camp! Even though we always suan you, we are really appreciative of all you’ve done for us. You went way beyond your scope as a TM to help the team advance and I’m sure all of us share the same sentiments. Without you, training would have been less effective. I’m really grateful for all you girls, and guy, for the wonderful memories and I hope you girls feel the same. Thanks for sticking with this not-so-capable captain throughout the year and see you all next year, except graduating Queen Ho :/. 106

captain: jason peh ZHUN SEN vice-captain: terry tan SOON LEE Team Manager: yong shu jia

achievements As the captain of eusoff hall’s basketball team for the year of 2014/2015, I was given the task to bond this dynamic group of sportsmen within 5 months before the commencement of the inter-hall games competition. The challenging part of it was to manage a diverse mixture of freshies and seniors who are all passionate about basketball. This made my job difficult as I have limited training time to take on individual peer teaching. However, I was glad to have a motivated team that is willing to go beyond the extra miles by engaging in their own training on top of the stipulated training schedules. While we did not manage to achieve our goals for the interhall games, I felt that the team had put up a good fight in terms of displaying the best teamwork and execution ever witnessed since day 1 of the training.

Sports

Perhaps, luck is not on our side but I am sure that with adequate preparation, it will allow us to strike back at our opponent for the next following interhall games’ season. Watch out for the team because we may not be strong as an individual but we are definitely a team not to be messed with given our strong team’s chemistry.

advice for the next captain I play to win, be it during trainings or games, because my competitive enthusiasm to win will motivate my team to be ambitious.

The team can only be as strong as the weakest link and hence I hope that the next successor would dedicate his time to guide all the players so that we improve together as one.

outstanding player(s) Moreover, I would like to thank my team manager for giving me the constant encouragement at the right time to motivate me whenever I felt stress being a player on court and captain simultaneously. Lastly, the coach played a very important role in shaping the direction of the team as well, and I would like to express my gratitude for imparting the set plays to the team while facilitating the training schedules.

captain: eugene teo JUNKAI vice-captain: melvin ong JUNJIE Team Manager: priscilla lim SING HUI The journey wasn’t easy. Nobody in their right mind would want to put themselves through what we did. It definitely wasn’t for the faint-hearted or weak willed. Trainings were crazy. Trainings were 3 times a week. Trainings lasted for 4 hours on average. Trainings that required us to wake up early in the morning, during the holidays. Trainings that were under the unforgiving afternoon sun. Trainings that were in the muddy swamp after rain. Trainings that had us endure lung-bursting, calf-cramping, quads-aching, sweat-dripping moments. Trainings that left us bruised, sore, dirty and smelly. Trainings that were both equally mentally and physically draining. Trainings that were necessary. We knew that it was necessary to have these trainings to push ourselves to our limits, stretch ourselves as much as possible, and improve as quickly as we could. How much we were able to endure and push through this rigorous period would show during IHG, our degree of preparation would be displayed for all to see on the field. And we wanted to be the best that we could be, to be in our readiest state. It is, and has always been better to be over-prepared, than under-prepared. We have never heard of champions that said “aiya sian we trained too hard.” After all, at the end of the day, nobody wants to be the team that’s left sobbing on the field, vowing to do better next time, right? When the competition begins, everyone wants to win equally badly. But the mark of the true champion is an equal desire to want to prepare to win. The journey wasn’t easy. But it isn’t meant to be easy, no one said it would be. This difficulty is the litmus test of how much we really covet it, it serves as an opportunity to allow our hunger and fighting spirit to separate ourselves from those who only kind of want it. But it was definitely worth it. And sure as hell enjoyable. Strangely, everything becomes easier when you train together with individuals equally passionate, crazy and retarded as you. Because you know you aren’t alone in this journey. You know that you’re not just an agglomeration of individuals bundled together. You know that these people who are beside you are not only fighting for the same cause, but will be laughing at you when you spill cup corn all over the field, or when you viciously attack your friend’s double chocolate frappe. These people will be playing maple story with you, and everyone finds out who encounters difficulties comprehending simple instructions during Guild PQ. These will also be the people that will take pictures of you when you fall asleep at Central Library, while supposedly studying. These will be your friends that play with you at West Coast playground at the swings, waiting for the $2 goodness from macs. These are the very same people that are horrendously lousy at Sprint Poker. Months, or even years later. Maybe you’re at your desk studying for finals, maybe you’re just on a bus that passes the fields. Maybe you’re at a zoo and a pink animal reminds you of a specific teammate. Maybe you’re not staying in hall anymore, on your sofa watching TV. Memories of these crazy times creep into your mind, and you slowly start recollecting memorable incidents that have been etched deeply in your unconscious, and things we have been through as a team. You’ll find it worthwhile to have (probably then unwillingly) put yourself through everything, and you’ll realize the greatest takeaway wasn’t the right to call ourselves champions for that season, but the very people that you have journeyed with the entire time. Eusoff Frisbee: Thank you guys for being so passionate and dedicated towards the team. Thank you for prioritizing well and trying to come for every training. Thank you for being receptive and eager to learn, helping us help you improve. Thank you for putting in your best efforts during training and on match day. Thank you for being tolerant of my shortcomings as a captain. Thank you for all the sacrifices that you’ve made. It has been my honour to develop and grow alongside every one of you. Every single one of you: Brandon, Carren, Clarice, Clinton, Daryll, Dng, Felix, Harriet, JZ, Josiah, Kiangyong, Laura, Melvin, Nicole, Pris, Sean, Suren, Baoyu, Taoyee, Zhihao, Tyn, Veron, Weijie and Yuru. achievements We certainly hoped to go further in this season, but the two matches also made us much stronger and bonded as a team, which is an achievement too.

outstanding player(s) Sports

Rachel Ho - being the most experienced senior around, she was the pillar of strength and support for the entire team! The freshies who played this IHG - their fighting spirit was admirable, especially since it is their first time playing handball competitively.

advice for the next captain Make sure the whole team joins back for the new IHG season! And continue to foster the same fighting spirit we had this season!

achievements For many of us the goal was to earn a spot in the finals which we did in the end. However for some of us, we were also unsure if we were capable of beating the strong KE7 team, especially after Shao Xuan got injured in the third quarter. Nevertheless, the team was determined to give their all and eventually beat KE7 to advance to the finals.

outstanding player(s) This is a team of stars: Carren Teo with her height and jump gave us an edge over many teams as the feeders could lobe the ball to Carren with ease. Despite being a newcomer, Carren did well in her shooting at times when the pressure was overwhelming. The team owe its success to Carren. Sports

Toh Shao Xuan with her rich experience and capability definitely gave the defenders a tough time. Breaking through all defence, Shao Xuan led the pace of the game with her every move and spurred the team on with her fighting spirit. Rochelle Chan, with the speed of lightning and accurate passes, worked well with Shao Xuan on attack and never gave the opponents any chance to to touch the ball. On defence, Rochelle also gave her all and managed to intercept a number of balls with her tight hustle. Sharleen Chin proved her capabilities once again in the finals where she played four quarters of Centre. Coupled with her perfect lobes that night, Sharleen assisted Carren in putting in the shots. Audrey Tang, a player who gives her 100 percent for every game, is definitely a valuable player of the team. Audrey reads the game very well and managed to intercept a lot of balls with her long arms and skills. Audrey never fails to bring up the morale of the team with her fighting spirit.

Don’t put in half of the effort unless you’re okay with half of the results.

Chang Wen Jia stepped up as Goal Attack in the finals after Shao Xuan was injured and played exceedingly well despite being out of position. Nervous and flustered as she is, Wen Jia proved herself an experienced player as she settles down into the position and worked with the other attackers to bring the ball to Carren smoothly. Kudos to Wen Jia.

advice for the next captain The next captain can bond the team better and organise more effective trainings for the team so that everyone can step up to the game when the need arises. The captain should also set and communicate an agreeable goal for the team right from the start. 134

achievements The team has truly exceeded expectations! Honestly I did not have any expectations going into the race. All I wanted was for everyone to run their best and come back and not have any regrets. But everyone really ran their hearts out for the hall and I’m really proud of my team for running their best. Winning was just the icing on top of the cake!

outstanding player(s) Sports

I’ve got to really commend our secret weapon Rochelle! She truly surprised me on the race day with such an outstanding timing. She’s also a great person to work with. Rou hui is another member I’d like to commend. She has really improved tremendously.

advice for the next captain I feel that training together with the guys has definitely made trainings more enjoyable and effective! Thus I think the next captain should consider continuing with this. Everything has been great this year. And wanted to say a big THANK YOU to guys captain Jian Ler for helping the girls out. Our win wouldn’t have been possible without him.

achievements My goal before the season started is definitely to at least equal or better last season’s result, 2nd runner up. However, as I started gathering the team, it looked bleak as I couldn’t even a team of 6 that can run a IHG standard timing for the route. However, things start to pick it up during the holidays and I’m very grateful to all my committed runners. They improved leaps and bounds and I have a greater pool of runners to choose from. Our game plan works on the day itself, which was to hold the lead all the way, just behind the running powerhouse, KR. We managed to clinch 1st runner up despite the adversity, which definitely surprise all of us and surpass my goal set before the season.

outstanding player(s) Sports

My all-stars team! I’m thankful to Zheng Yong for your ‘steroid’ drink (haha), You Hao for being fearless, Zhi Hao for taking up new challenges, Jun Yi for your relentless commitment and Josiah for your belief and the fight for the cause.

advice for the next captain It’s not about how fast your run, it’s about how hard you try.

Retain the core definitely! This is close to a dream team. And try to expand the running community in Eusoff, for fitness is a lifelong commitment. Anybody can take up this, and a pair of running shoes is all you need to kickstart the exercise.

achievements We did it! We played our hearts out for each other last year but came so close to winning. This year, we finally managed to bring home the championship. In the words of our previous captain, Emily, “The defeat starved our souls and crushed our hearts so much that we end up dying to come back.” In this long journey, it would not have been possible without the contribution and commitment of every single individual in the team.

outstanding player(s) Sports

To Brenda, Alissa and Cherly, Thank you for being the pillars of support and putting in your heart and soul and utmost effort for this team. You guys are really pivotal in the success of this team. To the seniors that have been through last year’s IHG, Baofang, Rachel, Melinda and Priscilla, thank you for all your dedication despite your other commitments and I’m glad we managed to bring home the title. To the rest of the seniors, Wanyi, Sylvia and Afiqah, thank you for leading by action in showing the freshies the importance of IHG and what it means to us. To the rest, Shiuan, Hazel, Eunice, Rochelle, Melissa, Brenda Lee, Klarissa, Jocelyn, Shao Xuan and Jolene, thank you for being part of the team and putting in so much effort in all the trainings. I really hope you guys enjoyed the sport and know what it means to be a Eusoffian and be able to play for the hall. To the girls that couldn’t be part of the team for IHG, thank you for all your efforts and keep playing the sport! Finally, to our dearest coach, Nigel, really glad the tuna fried rice and kimbap worked in getting you back to coach us. You were always there to make sure that we were on the right track. Thank you for believing in us and encouraging us all the way. Khoa, our ‘moomoo’ TM, thank you for being the TM for the second year, it wasn’t easy but you helped out a lot and we are very thankful for it! Phuc, Youchen, Julian, thank you for sacrificing your time in helping out! We couldn’t have done it without you guys as well!

It’s not how good you are, it’s how good you want to be.

Henry - for volunteering himself as the quartermaster and managing all the equipment that we have really well. I believe his dedication to want to excel in the sport motivated everyone in the team, too. Everyone showed their fighting spirit throughout the season, and I think the seniors all worked really hard for the past year(s). Especially Crystal-as the girls’ captain for the past 2 seasons, she built the team from scratch and remained passionate about Eusoff Squash for all of her 3 years in hall. We could always count on her to win her match for us!
