Silver Honoree, Dr. Tanisha Toaston, was initiated into the Zeta Gamma ch Sorority, Incorporated® in 1998. She is a proud native of Baton Rouge, LA an and M University. She graduated Magna Cum Laude and went to receive he State University College of Osteopathic Medicine.

Dr. Toaston has served Alpha Kappa Alpha as a member of multiple committees. She has had the best experience in working with the Community Impact and History committees. She has participated in health fairs as well as quarterly events at the Dallas Life homeless shelter. She participated and assisted with award-winning scrapbooks. When time allows, she participates in sisterly functions dedicated to the Marvelous Mid-cities and previously with the Notorious Northside!

Dr. Toaston completed her medical residency in Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation (PM&R) at Baylor University Medical Center here in Dallas, TX and her fellowship in Spinal Cord Injury (SCI) at UT Southwestern and the Dallas VA Medical Center. She is board certified in PM&R with a subspecialty in SCI Medicine. Dr. Toaston currently sees patients and serves as the Program Director of the SCI Program at Encompass Rehabilitation Hospital in Bedford, TX. She also sees patients at The Forum Parkway Skilled Nursing Facility. In 2013, she ventured to Charlotte, NC for another job opportunity focused on SCI. She returned to the Dallas/Fort Worth Metroplex in the fall of 2015. While spinal cord injury medicine is her passion, she looks forward to creating a private practice as well as starting residential care homes for the disabled patient. Dr. Toaston serves as a preceptor and mentor to the pre-med students as well as medical students and residents at all three medical schools here in the area. She currently serves as the secretary of the C.V. Roman Medical Society, the DFW chapter of the National Medical Association- the national association serving African American physicians and their patients. She is the newly appointed Medical Director of the Dallas and Irving sectors of Rehab Without Walls-an organization focused on community and in-home rehab for patients with traumatic brain injury and SCI.

Dr. Toaston is a legacy honoree! Her mother, Mary Toaston, is a Golden Member and a charter member of the Nu Gamma Omega chapter in Baton Rouge LA. She has two brothers, and one sister who is also a member of the sorority. Her late father, Fulton, was a member of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Incorporated. She enjoys cooking, abstract painting, exercising, indulging in New Orleans Saints football, and traveling both domestically and abroad.
