Golden Honoree Virginia Lockwood Terry was born on October 19, 1950, whe Joseph Miller, welcomed her as their third of six children to their family. Vi Conroe, Texas. After graduating from high school, she attended Huston-Til Texas where she earned her bachelor’s in Elementary Education. She obtain Education (M. Ed.) from East Texas State University. Ms. Terry received an Honorary Doctor of Divinity in 2015. Her educational philosophy is: “Learning is a lifelong process, and students come in all ages!” Ms. Terry was initiated into the Beta Kappa chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated®. in December 1970. She has passed on the tradition of Alpha Kappa Alpha women to her granddaughter, Germanii Murphy Lockwood, her legacy, who is a new member of Omicron Mu Omega chapter (December 2021). Ms. Terry joined Omicron Mu Omega in 2019 and actively serves on the Membership and Weekly Devotion committees.

Ms. Terry is a retired educator, having served the Houston Independent School District for 13 years and the Dallas Independent School District (DISD) for 27 years. During these 40 years, she served 20 years as a teacher and 20 years as a school principal. Recognized for her excellence in education, she has received numerous awards from many well noted organizations. Ms. Terry established a scholarship foundation for Girls entitled “Mary’s Daughters” named in memory of her late sister, First Lady Mary McIntosh of the Tevis Memorial Church. This annual scholarship is awarded to young ladies to help them achieve their goals and dreams of a college education.

After retiring from DISD, Ms. Terry founded the VLT Insurance Consulting Group, LLC. As an independent business owner for 8 years, Ms. Terry has been successful in assisting over 500 clients in understanding and selecting an insurance plan suited for their individual needs.

As a commitment to serving her community, Ms. Terry serves on the Board of Directors for Crest House Group Home. Additionally, she donates food items and toiletries to the residents on a regular basis and provides refreshments and Christmas gifts for the residents’ Christmas party.

In April 1972, James Lockwood, II and Virginia Miller married in Conroe, TX where they became the proud parents of James Lockwood, III. After the untimely death of Mr. Lockwood in 1974, Ms. Lockwood and young James relocated to Dallas, TX. Ms. Terry is the proud grandmother of Germanii, Austin, and Elin Lockwood. In 1997, Ms. Lockwood and Bishop T.T. Terry, Sr. married and blended their families.

Ms. Terry is the first Lady of Texas Southeast Third Ecclesiastical Jurisdiction, faithfully serving with her husband, Bishop T. T. Terry, Sr. at Holy Trinity Church of God in Christ (C.O.G.I.C.) and Trinity Temple C.O.G.I.C. in Dallas, Texas. She previously served as Secretary for the Texas Southeast Third Women Department for over 40 years. Ms. Terry currently serves as the Curriculum Coordinator for the International Bishops’ Wives Circle Induction Training Academy.
