The analysis that confirms the Elis model's advantage

ACQUISITIONS

Looking back at a year of strategic growth for Elis

editorial

Dear teams,

I would like to thank you for your commitment and performance, which allowed us to achieve outstanding results in 2024, in what proved to be an excellent year for Elis.

We can be pleased with what we have accomplished together:

In operations, we achieved a historic performance in terms of workplace safety, with a 15% drop in the accident frequency rate. In addition, all our best practices are continuing to be implemented across all our regions. Some countries, such as Germany, the United Kingdom, France and Spain, achieved outstanding results.

On the commercial side, our customer satisfaction surveys are at a record level, rewarding our efforts to improve our quality of service. Our Pest Control and Cleanroom Business Units continue to post doubledigit growth, while the numerous acquisitions in 2024, such as Wonway in Malaysia, are opening up new growth prospects.

Among the Group’s many projects that strengthen our ways of working and boost our performance, the success of our employer brand campaign stands out. Attracting talent and developing it within our company remains a sure sign of Elis’s magic.

In CSR, we strengthened our commitment, and several initiatives to promote our circular services, such as the Workwear to Workwear garment recycling project, won numerous awards in 2024.

In 2025, growth will remain a priority more than ever. Further improving our quality of service, expanding our sales teams in all our regions and promoting our circular business model are just some of the initiatives that will drive the company’s development this year.

I am proud to lead a group that, while experiencing tremendous growth for so many years, has managed to preserve its culture and values.

Elis For All

Record amount and renewed confidence in our 2024 employee shareholding plan, Elis For All.

Thanks to everyone’s commitment, we raised more than €10 million, which is extraordinary, with an impressive 25% increase in the participation rate from 2023.

This year also saw the participation for the first time of Elis Colombia and Moderna in the Netherlands, which joined the initiative and contributed significantly to this success.

This result is further proof of our employees’ confidence.

Elis Portugal joins the prestigious Superbrands family

Elis Portugal is now recognised as a Superbrand, a distinction reserved for only 1% of brands in Portugal. This label highlights our commitment to excellence, quality, innovation and responsibility.

This achievement reflects the teamwork of our employees, who help to cement our reputation every day. In keeping with our mission, we remain committed to providing our customers with excellent circular services.

An international meeting for the Elis marketing team – IMM 2024

For three days, more than 200 Elis employees from all over Europe, Brazil and Mexico gathered for an international marketing meeting.

The agenda included:

Nine collaborative workshops to co-build projects around key themes such as our offering, customer experience, communication and innovation.

An inspiring presentation of the Group’s flagship projects, introduced by the CEO.

The event saw lively discussion on how to better serve our customers worldwide through innovation and collaboration.

Elis innovates with its first customer CO2 emissions calculator

In October, Elis launched a new tool to strengthen customer support: the carbon footprint calculator. Available for all internal teams, this tool is used to measure and analyse CO2 emissions for all our products and services used by each customer.

What are the benefits for our customers? Comprehensive and reliable data, based on a recognised methodology; results that can be incorporated directly into their own carbon footprint report; a better understanding of their carbon impact.

Where can it be found? It is available on the CSR SharePoint. Anyone with an Elis email address can use it, in any of the Group’s countries.

A day with... Elise Bert-Leduc, Marketing and Innovation Director

A day with

Since October 2024, Élise Bert-Leduc has held the position of Marketing and Innovation Director for the Elis Group. She is also Group General Manager of Le Jacquard Français and Kennedy, and sits on the Executive Committee.

Elise brings with her a remarkable track record in international companies, where she has combined strategic vision, innovation and operational leadership. A graduate of Centrale Paris and University of California, Berkeley, Elise began her career at the Boston Consulting Group, before taking on executive roles at Google, AXA, Direct Assurance and Doctolib.

Let’s meet her.

Elise, what was it that appealed to you about Elis’s model?

Elis’s promise, Circular services at work, is inspiring. It combines industrial know-how and local service with strong community roots. The rental & maintenance model is inherently virtuous: we design products that are designed to last, we repair everything that can be repaired and we optimise our resources, whether it be water, energy or textiles. Apart from the model, I was also impressed by the people who work for Elis. I really identify with this healthy corporate culture, which combines human values with a continual focus on performance. The desire to excel is a powerful driver! We are fortunate to be a growing company, with many plans for expansion.

What were your first impressions of the teams and the organisation?

From my induction, I was touched by the warm welcome of the teams, whether in our plants, during shifts with service agents, or in sales meetings with customers. I really enjoyed seeing how committed our employees are, and how proud they are of their work. Each Elis site has a unique history shaped by the local context, the competition and its customers. One thing is certain: I believe in collective strength and the cohesion of “One Elis” for the good of our customers.

What are your priorities for the future?

Marketing is a key driver of organic growth: offering the right product or service to the right person, at the right time.

My priority is to make customers central to our actions: to fully understand their needs so that we can better meet them.

We also need to expand and optimise our offering, as with workwear, in terms of range and turnaround times, for example.

Lastly, digital and data are strategic levers. Structuring customer and service data is essential for innovation, powered by the e-force CRM project. On the digital side, MyElis and the Elis Connect traceability initiatives have laid the foundations, although there is still the potential to streamline our interactions with customers.

Do you have a message for Elis’s teams?

I wish all teams an excellent year, full of professional success and personal development. I hope each challenge is an opportunity to grow and that every success is celebrated. As Eleanor Roosevelt put it so well: “The future belongs to those who believe in the beauty of their dreams and in the strength of their work”. So let’s all continue to dream big and work with passion!

Elis Academy makes a splash

The second in-house sales negotiation challenge once again highlighted the Group’s commercial DNA, while strengthening cohesion between the DISCO and Sales teams. This time around, the event featured immersive roleplay, informed debate and a fun approach to learning, underlining the importance of training for sharing experiences and know-how. This inspiring team effort paves the way for new initiatives.

Sales’Ac: an innovative way of showcasing sales roles

The second Sales’Ac, which was held in France, took on a new dimension. This year, the event was aimed at middle account managers and customer account managers , focusing on key account targets. As a reminder, the first event was aimed at small account managers.

Objective:

To showcase sales roles at Elis while encouraging fun and collaborative learning. Roleplay, peer discussions and the sharing of best practices served as a reminder that training is the key to sales success. With 120 participants and the unprecedented involvement of DISCO teams, the event demonstrated that continuous improvement requires effort, training and expertise in sales techniques. Testimonials

What was the most difficult stage for you during this challenge?

Alison Cochelin, 2024 winner: I can safely say that the final was the most difficult stage for me, for several reasons: the environment was less familiar, I didn’t always know the audience and the participants were all highly motivated. I really wanted to win, so it was really stressful.

3rd edition next year…

Launch of the 2025 event at the roadshow in January!

Ema Sammartin, 2024 winner: The second stage, which took place during the regional roadshow, was the most difficult because it was held in front of all the region’s employees. The exercise becomes especially daunting when it’s done in front of a large audience. Even so, it was excellent training for stress management and public speaking.

What was decisive in your victory?

A.C: My preparation and discipline were crucial. They meant that I could stay focused and adapt to each step.

E.S: An understanding of the method and thorough preparation meant that I could cope better with the roleplay situations.

What would you say to future candidates?

A.C: I would tell them to have confidence in themselves and, most importantly, to be themselves. It was stressful and emotional, but I was proud to represent my region. Overall it was a great experience!

E.S: I would tell them that, although it takes you out of your comfort zone, roleplay allows you to deconstruct your habits and develop new ways of thinking. This makes customer meetings more organised, efficient and enjoyable. Sales’Ac is a real opportunity to develop sales techniques and improve the everyday skills you need in our line of work.

With its teams of Sales and DISCO trainers, ELIS ACADEMY offers comprehensive onboarding and continuous training programmes year-round for the entire sales force.

Sales’Ac is the highlight of the year: we wanted to create an annual event to showcase the know-how of our employees. Essentially, it’s a fun and innovative way to learn. Our teams enjoy the competitive aspect, and it gives them huge exposure.

We take pride in showcasing the various sales roles at Elis. No doubt this event has already sparked some interest! The next step is to adapt Sales’Ac for other countries.

The argument for Elis

As a leader in circular services and with a model based on the product-service system, Elis offers its customers more sustainable solutions. The full life cycle assessment of a work outfit confirms this approach and demonstrates the environmental benefits of our business model.

The Moovento range was used as a reference, but the results of the assessment apply to all our collections.

Assessment carried out

What is a life cycle assessment (LCA)?

The comparative life cycle assessment (LCA) is a standardised method (ISO 14040 and ISO 14044) to assess the potential environmental impacts of a service (product or activity). It consists of identifying the physical flows of materials and energy throughout its life cycle.

SEWING Cutting, manufacturing and tailoring USE

Life cycle phases covered by the LCA END OF LIFE Recycling, repair or disposal

FIELDS Agriculture Cultivating the fibres

SPINNING Making the thread

WEAVING Producing the fabric

TREATMENT

Dyeing, finishing, washing

In 2024, Elis conducted a comparative life cycle assessment (LCA) of a work outfit (jacket and trousers). We assessed the environmental impact of the textiles over their entire life cycle, from fibre production to the use phase and end-of-life processing.

We compared the Elis model, based on rental & maintenance, with two other scenarios:

1 Purchasing garments and sending them to a laundry to be washed.

2 Purchasing garments and washing them at home. Specifically, we examined the environmental impact of providing a clean, dry work outfit for the wearer five days a week, every week for a period of four years.

Carbon footprint of a garment

The production of raw materials and spinning are the main contributors to CO₂ emissions.

Key results

The Elis service has a lower environmental impact than purchasing models with washing at home or by laundry services.

The LCA confirms the environmental benefits of the Elis model over the other two models. The study highlights the importance of reducing garment production and the potential of circular models to achieve this goal.

It consists of two jackets (class 1 and 2), two pairs of trousers (class 1 and 2), one set of dungarees (class 2) and one coverall (class 3), available in yellow/navy and orange/navy. These versatile garments have various practical features, such as tool pockets, and are designed to meet the needs of discerning professionals.

The Proshine collection is kinder to the environment, being made from 100% recycled cotton and polyester and thus meeting the growing demand for sustainable solutions.

Making

it easy for customers to choose the right

outfits

Working out which class a garment falls into requires more than basic maths.

That’s why we’ve developed tools to help you mix and match hi-vis clothing effectively.

For example, to achieve class 3, you can pair the Proshine class 2 jacket with the Proshine class 2 trousers.

Pricing: a pillar of our performance

With thousands of items in the catalogue, how can our sales teams be sure that they are offering their customers the right price? And when our production costs increase, how do we pass them on fairly?

It comes down to the complex art of pricing, which seeks to define and optimise price strategies. Pricing is an essential pillar of our competitiveness and profitability. Thanks to its expertise, this dynamic team ensures that we can grow and succeed in a constantly changing market.

Behind the scenes

Pricing is not just about adjusting the prices of our products. Each day, the team handles a variety of essential tasks:

Monitoring price increases:

Calculating and applying increases, supporting negotiations and sharing best practices across the Group.

Development of intuitive tools:

Creating user-friendly tools and rolling them out in different countries. In 2023, contracts worth €567,000 a month were signed using these tools.

Rollout in the following countries

Countries with the price change KPI and one or more tools

Countries with the price change KPI (no tools yet)

Countries where rollout is in progress

Definition of price corridors:

Constructing and updating price corridors using peer pricing and profitability, while maintaining prices in France and providing support for other countries.

Provision of specific KPIs:

Measuring price changes, analysing increases for existing customers and monitoring monthly performance.

Inflation: a major challenge

After unusually high inflation in 2022, we saw significant cost increases in 2023. The price of paper went up by 8.6%, electricity by 4.7% and cotton by 8.5%. In 2024, the pricing team had to constantly adjust its pitch to help staff on the ground defend prices and justify the increases to customers, while keeping them happy.

Innovation at the heart of their success

To overcome these challenges, the team developed innovative tools, designed to be quick and easy to use with intuitive colour coding. These solutions, like the UK small account manager tool, are now used in several countries, making the pricing process more streamlined and accurate.

Maintenance essentials

The Maintenance & Process Department supports operations by developing and implementing methods and tools for maintenance departments at the Group’s plants.

Most maintenance tools and methods are available on the Engineering Department’s SharePoint site.

Here you will find, for example:

The Maintenance Essentials booklet

The process adjustment guide

The guide to best practices for flat linen

The industrial equipment repository

Protocols for receiving new equipment

Another key activity is the rollout of TOM* maintenance software, including the Elis preventative maintenance plan. To maximise the added value of these tools, it is essential to establish a structured organisation and efficient management.

The “Maintenance Essentials” booklet, combined with a full, qualified and committed maintenance team, is an essential lever to ensure the optimal year-round functioning of production equipment.

This 90-page booklet is given to maintenance managers during training designed specifically for this purpose.

The 5 Maintenance Golden Rules summarise the key actions to be taken, with a reminder of the information that needs to be known and shared on a daily basis.

This communication and management tool must be displayed in the right place in all Elis maintenance workshops! Posters are available in several languages from your maintenance methods engineer. You can also use the visuals available in the “Maintenance Essentials” section on the Engineering Department's website.

CRÊPES SUZETTE WITH GRAND MARNIER

MAKE THE PANCAKE BATTER:

1 Place the flour, salt and sugar in a bowl. Make a well in the centre and break the eggs into it.

2 Gently beat together, adding milk gradually to prevent any lumps forming.

3 In a non-stick frying pan, cook three pancakes per person, wiping the pan with greased paper before making each pancake. Transfer the pancakes to a plate and fold into quarters.

4 In the same pan, add the butter and heat gently until it begins to brown. Return the folded pancakes to the pan and sprinkle them with sugar, then add the Grand Marnier and flambee them.

5 Once the flame goes out, add the orange juice and remove from the heat. Allow to stand for 5 mins.

SERVE WARM.
