110 Jahre währt die Geschichte der Markthalle, ein wahrlich identitätsstiftender Ort im Herzen von Innsbruck.

Mit dem Bau der Großmarkthalle wurde damals der Grundstein für das innerstädtische Markttreiben gelegt. 50 Jahre später wurde der Osttrakt dazu errichtet, und insgesamt bietet die Halle heute eine Verkaufsfläche von über 1.800 m². Die heutige Markthalle gilt als kulinarischer Schmelztiegel der Stadt und ihrer Umgebung.

„Das Markt geh’n“ ist für viele unserer Bauern und Produzenten ein Teil ihrer Berufung. Von klein auf wurde es von den Familien zelebriert, in der Markthalle die selbst produzierten bäuerlichen Produkte zum Verkauf anzubieten. Dieses Gebaren wurde über Generationen weitergegeben und die Geschichten unserer alteingesessenen Marktfamilien sind außergewöhnlich. Begegnungen mit echten Marktfrauen und Marktmännern, deren herzliche Fachberatung überzeugt, sind in der Markthalle möglich.

Regionale Spezialitäten, internationale Raritäten, feine Handelsware und eine herzhafte Gastronomie begeistern jeden Gast. Unsere nordseitig ausgerichtete Sonnenterrasse ist die längste der Stadt. Im Restaurant Lichtblick on top der RathausGalerien trifft man sich in unkomplizierter Atmosphäre zum Lunch oder Dinner. Was hier aus der Küche kommt, ist so einfach wie genial. Ohne viel Schnickschnack wird hier richtig gut gekocht. Abends stehen drei Menüs zur Wahl, aus denen man sich natürlich auch einzelne Komponenten rauspicken kann. Die Weinkarte ist reich bestückt. // The Lichtblick restaurant at the top of the RathausGalerien is the place to meet for lunch or dinner in an uncomplicated atmosphere. What comes out of the kitchen here is as simple as it is ingenious. The food here is really good, without a lot of frills. In the evening, there are three menus to choose from, although you can of course choose individual components, and the wine list is extensive.

DIE WILDERIN

Wer A sagt, muss auch B sagen, heißt es. Die Wilderin in der Altstadt ist da durchaus konsequent, denn hier wird’s persönlich, wenn es um Schwein, Rind, Hendl und Co. geht. Seit bald zehn Jahren verfolgen Claudia und Michael Kogler konsequent ihren Ansatz, aus artgerecht erzeugten und fair bepreisten Lebensmitteln das Beste herauszukitzeln, und zwar von Kopf bis Fuß, oder verenglischt: Nose to Tail. Kaum irgendwo sonst wird in Innsbruck derart regional, saisonal und nachhaltig gekocht. Und das richtig, richtig gut. // If you say A, you must say B, as the old saying goes. The Wilderin in the old part of town is very consistent, because it gets personal when it comes to pork, beef, chicken and the rest. For almost ten years now, Claudia and Michael Kogler have been consistently pursuing their approach of bringing out the best in humanely produced and fairly priced food, from nose to tail. There is hardly anywhere else in Innsbruck that cooks so locally, seasonally and sustainably. And they do it really, really well.

Das Lamm hat in Innsbruck eine spannende Geschichte und an seinem alten Standort in Mariahilf viele Hochs und Tiefs hinter sich. Seit einiger Zeit befindet sich das Lamm definitiv auf einem Alltime-High und ist mit der Übersiedlung in die Anichstraße auch mehr ins Zentrum gerückt. Die Karte ist klein, die kulinarischen Interpretationen sind jedoch eine durchaus gelungene Überraschung. Man merkt die Liebe zum Handwerk, das Können und die Neugierde, auch mal Neues auszuprobieren. Ambiente und Service sind entspannt. // The Lamm has an interesting history in Innsbruck and has had many ups and downs at its old location in Mariahilf. In recent times, the Lamm has definitely been on a roll, and with its move to Anichstraße, it has also moved closer to the city centre. The menu is small, but the culinary interpretations come as a surprise. You can see the love for the craft, the skill and the curiosity to try something new. The atmosphere and service are relaxed.

Nicht ganz zentral, aber zu Fuß machbar: Die Wäscherei – vom Bahnhof Richtung Norden – liegt etwas versteckt in einem Innenhof und verbindet gutes Essen und Trinken mit Spielspaß. Gekocht wird frisch und saisonal, danach wechselt man an einen der acht Billardtische oder zum Dartautomaten. Dazu gibt’s Karten- und Brettspiele, zu denen man ein Gläschen Wein, Bier oder Cocktails schlürft. // Not quite central, but within walking distance. The Wäscherei – heading north from the station – is tucked away in a courtyard and combines good food and drink with fun. The food is fresh and seasonal, then you can move on to one of the eight pool tables or the dart machine. There are also card and board games to enjoy with a glass of wine, beer or cocktail.

Gelegen im 12. Stock des Hotel Adlers im Pema-Turm östlich des Bahnhofs bietet das Restaurant weitsicht einen atemberaubenden Blick über die Dächer von Innsbruck. Die Karte ist dazu nicht weniger spannend. Vom Beef Tatar vom Tiroler Grauvieh über Pasta und Burger bis zum Zitronen-Perlhuhn mit Vanille ist alles dabei. Als Special gibt’s Tomahawk- oder Porterhouse-Steaks. Man muss auch nicht Gast sein, um hier zu speisen. Spektakulärer geht es kaum: Die Sprungschanze am Bergisel nach einem Entwurf von Stararchitektin Zaha Hadid ist an sich schon ein Hingucker. Aus dem Restaurant Sky indes ist auch der Ausblick wahrlich beeindruckend. Hier is(s)t man wahrlich über den Dingen. Neben Salaten, Suppen und Pasta kann man aus verschiedenen Hauptspeisen wie Kalbsrahmgulasch oder Kaspressknödeln wählen, toll sind das hausgemachte Eis und die Süßspeisen, die man auch gerne zu einem Kaffee bestellen kann. Unser Tipp ist das Bergisel-Sky-Frühstück, mit dem der Tag schon perfekt startet. Eine Reservierung ist empfehlenswert. // It doesn’t get much more spectacular than this: the Bergisel ski jump, designed by star architect Zaha Hadid, is an eye-catcher in itself. But the view from the Sky Restaurant is even more impressive. You really are above it all. As well as salads, soups and pasta, you can choose from a variety of main courses such as veal cream goulash or cheese dumplings, and the homemade ice creams and desserts, which you can order with your coffee, are excellent. Our tip is the Bergisel Sky Breakfast, the perfect way to start the day. Reservations are recommended.

Das Wiltener Platzl hat sich in den vergangenen Jahren zum jungen place to be entwickelt und ist Heimat vieler hipper Läden geworden. Quasi mittendrin befindet sich das Placel mit seinen Burgern und Quesadillas. Das Lokal ist nicht sonderlich groß, deshalb gibt’s alles in guter alter Streetfood-Manier auch zum Mitnehmen. Im Sommer kann man auch draußen sitzen. Ein Stück weiter runter befindet sich der Placel-Ableger „Ann’s Diner“, das in bunt-amerikanischem Stil außergewöhnlich gute Hotdogs und Bowls kredenzt. // Wiltener Platzl has become a young place to be in recent years, with lots of hip shops. Placel, with its burgers and quesadillas, is right in the middle. The restaurant is not very big, so everything is available to take away in good old street food style. You can also sit outside in the summer. A little further down is the Placel offshoot Ann’s Diner, which serves excellent hot dogs and bowls in a colourful American style.

Seinen Beinamen „Burrito Kartell“ trägt das Machete nicht von ungefähr, konzentriert man sich hier doch auf die wirklich wichtigen Dinge des Lebens: Burritos. Die gibt’s hier in den verschiedensten Varianten, Nachtschwärmer verweilen bei Craftbier, Cocktails und anderen fancy Drinks. Reservieren kann man nicht, die Dinger aber gerne mitnehmen. // It’s no coincidence that Machete is nicknamed the ‘Burrito Cartel’, because it’s all about the important things in life: burritos. Burritos come in all shapes and sizes, and night owls can linger over craft beers, cocktails and other fancy drinks. You can’t make a reservation, but you’re welcome to take your burritos with you.

Grad eben. Und die Getränkekarte ist hervorragend. Vom Kaffee bis zum Cocktail ist alles dabei, die Weinkarte führt viele schöne Etiketten. An lauen Abenden sitzt man draußen. // The wine bar 360 degrees doesn’t serve food (you can eat at Lichtblick across the road), but the view is magnificent. Simply 360 degrees. And the drinks menu is excellent. Everything from coffee to cocktails is available, and the wine list has many fine selections. On warm evenings you can sit outside.

CLOUD ONE BAR

Seit Ende des letzten Jahres hat das Motel One am Innsbrucker Hauptbahnhof geöffnet und mit ihm die öffentliche Bar auf der Dachterrasse im 13. Stock, die einen wunderbaren Blick über die Stadt bietet. Neben verschiedenen Signature-Cocktails kann man nach dem Mix-it-yourself-Prinzip auch selbst den Cocktailshaker schwingen. Großartig ist auch die Auswahl an Gins. // The Motel One at Innsbruck Hauptbahnhof has been open since the end of last year, and with it the public bar on the roof terrace on the 13th floor, which offers a wonderful view over the city. As well as a range of signature cocktails, you can mix your own with a cocktail shaker. They also have a great selection of gins.

An der Ecke Adolf-Pichler-Platz/Stainerstraße hat Damir Bušic mit seinem Liquid Diary ein echtes Cocktailparadies geschaffen. In opulenter Umgebung genießt man hier handwerklich perfekt zubereitete Drinks, die Barkeeper beraten gerne, ausführlich und auf den Punkt, sodass man gerne auch mal was Neues ausprobiert. // Damir Bušic has created a veritable cocktail paradise with his Liquid Diary on the corner of Adolf-Pichler-Platz and Stainerstraße. Here you can enjoy perfectly prepared drinks in opulent surroundings, and the bartenders are happy to give detailed advice so you can try something new.

Im Restaurant Sitzwohl im ersten Stock kann man mittags und abends fabelhaft essen, die Bar im Erdgeschoß indes ist noch eine Art Geheimtipp. Nicht die Bar an sich, die gibt es schon eine ganze Weile, aber dass es hier auch ganz vorzüglich-kreativ-einzigartige Cocktails gibt, hat sich noch nicht bis ins letzte Eck herumgesprochen. Deswegen weisen wir Sie an dieser Stelle gerne darauf hin. Fordern Sie die Barkeeper heraus, die freuen sich. // You can have a fabulous lunch or dinner in the upstairs Sitzwohl restaurant, but the downstairs bar is still something of an insider’s tip. Not the bar itself, which has been around for a long time, but the fact that you can also get excellent, creative and unique cocktails here has yet to spread. So we thought we’d mention it here. Challenge the bartenders, they’ll be delighted.

Die Gastfreundschaft und Lust am Barbetrieb hat Hevi Özkan auch in seine nunmehr dritte Station mit seiner Plansch Bar, die erst im Souterrain des Städtischen Hallenbads und darauf in der Jahnstraße beim Zeughaus angesiedelt war, mitgenommen. Hier, im Viaduktbogen mit der Nummer 69, scheint die Plansch Bar nun endlich angekommen. Das Lokal ist eine Bereicherung für ein Umfeld, das viel mehr Potenzial hat. Überzeugen kann auch die Akustik der Hintergrundbeschallung, die präsent ist, ohne aufdringlich zu sein. // Hevi Özkan has taken his hospitality and his desire to run a bar to his third stop with his Plansch Bar, first in the basement of the municipal swimming pool and then on Jahnstraße near the Zeughaus. Here, in the viaduct arch at number 69, the Plansch Bar seems to have finally arrived. The bar is an asset to an area that has much more potential. The acoustics of the background music are also convincing, present without being obtrusive.

FUCHS & HASE

Der Innsbrucker Domplatz ist eigentlich wirklich schön und wird dennoch recht stiefmütterlich behandelt. Mit dem Fuchs & Hase haben Georg Waldmüller und Stephan Haas allerdings eine lässige Bar in die alten Gewölbe gezaubert, die echt gute und kreative Drinks serviert. Auch die Weinkarte ist speziell, aber durchaus spannend. Als kleinen Zubiss gibt’s hervorragende Sauerteig-Sandwiches. // Innsbruck’s cathedral square is actually quite attractive, but rather neglected. But with Fuchs & Hase, Georg Waldmüller and Stephan Haas have created a casual bar in the old vaults that serves really good and creative drinks. The wine list is also a little unusual, but quite fascinating. There are excellent sourdough sandwiches for a snack.

LA CANTINA

Es muss ja nicht immer Alkohol sein, auch wenn es den in der Cantina selbstverständlich auch gibt. Hierher kommen wir jedoch, wenn wir einen wirklich guten Kaffee trinken möchten. Der kommt in diesem konkreten Fall von Fantini, einer 20 Kilometer südlich von Rom gelegenen Rösterei. // It doesn’t always have to be alcohol, although the Cantina does serve it. But we come here when we want to drink a really good coffee. In this case, it comes from Fantini, a roastery 20 kilometres south of Rome.
