RUN FOR BOARD

DIVISION SPOTLIGHT

Letter from

the editor Hey ECD!

Welcome to 2019 - the new year is definitely bringing us a lot of

new events and opportunities for us to expand our service and leadership experience in. Even though this service year will be wrapping up in the next several months, it’s important to remember to keep putting in our full effort into Key Club, just as we’ve been doing all year long! One of the most important upcoming events is DCON, ECD’s annual leadership convention! DCON is an amazing event that connects Key Clubbers from divisions all across Canada, and is also an opportunity to learn more about the importance of service in our communities. If you’re interested in running for the District Board, this conference is for you too more details are included later in this issue! More information can also be found on our website, keyclub.ca. Remember, if you every have any questions, or have any projects or events you would like featured in an upcoming issue, feel free to contact me!

Yours in Service,

Gillyan Xu

the governor

Hey Key Clubbers!

2018 has come to a close, and with that, a brand new start is upon us. I hope you all had a wonderful year filled with service and are excited for everything 2019 has in store for us. Remember that New Year’s resolutions don’t work unless you do, so make sure to give it your all! A new year means change and new adventures, and I am so excited to continue serving the District along with my wonderful Board members.

As a board, we are continuing work on our committees (remember, you can still join!). As mentioned in the beginning of my term, I am still committed to the service directory for the District. Additionally, I am working with my board to create a strategic plan for the District to thrive for years to come. Sustainability is key! With the end of 2018, DCON is closer than ever. Our theme this year is Harry Potter, where we will experience and celebrate the magic of service! Remember that registration is now open on the website and should you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to reach out to myself or anyone on the board. We are happy to help! I hope to see you all in beautiful Niagara Falls come April! If you ever have any questions, feel free to reach out me at govenor@keyclub.ca. I’m here to help! Yours in service,

Aidan Gurung

Letter from the International

TRUSTEE

Hello, Eastern Canada!

I hope you guys are having an amazing holiday season and are getting some rest- we all need it! This time of year is one of the most stressful times because of convention, so it is vital that you spend this time resting. During this break, I have really been working on catching up with the districts and checking the progress with district conventions. I am in the process of being assigned to some committees in the different districts, so that way I can help everyone out and be more involved. I am also planning to do a sistric-wide call between your district, Capital and Michigan. Check with your L.G’s soon to receive more information In the realms of the International Board, we are focusing all of our attention on Truly International, the campaign that is hoping to bring more attention to clubs outside of the U.S. Check the Key Club and EastCapiGan social media pages to gain more information. Enjoy the rest of your break and let me know if you have any questions! Yours in love and service,

For the last couple of months, my division has tried to raise up the numbers of Key Club members. All the clubs worked hard to promotion and have many more new members for this year. The executive teams in every clubs also organize and plan out many awesome events and activities to help out the local community and the CFFC (the district’s project). Our Key Club in Sussex, NB, have started a fantasic campaign called The Blanket Campaign. In this campaign, all the members will make blankets together and then sell it, and after that the money that they get will be used to give to their local nursing home. On the other hand, Key Club in Colonel Gray, PE, has held many activities during the Key Club Week, not only to expand the spirit of Key Club, but also raised funds for the Christmas Giving program, in which people will buy gifts for poor students in the school, and for the CFFC. In Saint Stephen, NB, our Key Club has made cards for this cheerful season, and they sell them to raise some funds. As the LG of the division, I am hoping to open one more club in NB and one in PE. I am working hard on it, and hoping the best will come in the new year!ubs from New York, Key Leader, and Spaghetti Trivia Night, among many others!

D11-12’s Update LG: Mai Nguyen

Division 3 has been keeping busy with the amazing service around their community. During the holidays, it is very difficult for some families to afford all the expenses of the season, such as food, presents, and clothing. St Mary’s High School participated in the Angel Tree initiative, where student bought and wrapped toys and necessities for children this holiday season. All donations went to KidsAbility in Kitchener, which helps support children with physical disabilities. Division 3 has done some fundraising and has received donations for the KitchenerWaterloo Homeless Shelter to support the demand for warm clothing. One of the major items needed this season at the shelter were socks. With many bags of socks, division 3 was able to supply enough socks for all in need!
