On Wednesday morning Encana made an announcement that it would be selling the bulk of its Clearwater Business Unit Assets to Ember Recourses. While Drumheller is firmly in Clearwater’s footprint, it looks as if Encana’s Drumheller office will remain intact. The deal is worth $605 million Canadian, and includes 6,800 producing wells spread over 1.2 million net acres. These wells produced

Encana plans to retain offices in Ponoka, Drumheller and Ghost Pine. According to a release, Ember, together with its shareholder Brookfield Capital Partners, has recently, through several acquisitions, consolidated a significant land and production base in the Horseshoe Canyon CBM fairway in Alberta. With this acquisition, Ember will own interests in 2.2 million net acres of lands, with combined gross production of 290 mmcfe/d of natural gas. Coalbed methane production is characterized
as a low-cost, long-life natural gas resource. “This acquisition establishes Ember as the leading producer of coalbed methane in Canada,” says Doug Dafoe, Ember President & CEO. “This is an exciting time for our company and we look forward to working with the talented team that has made Encana successful in this area for so many years.” Encana has remained a key contributor to the Drumheller community and has supported numerous community projects. Vescarelli said Encana would continue to contribute to the areas we operate in, and even more so where we are doing development in. The deal is expected to be completed within the first quarter of 2015.

The Chinook Credit Union in Drumheller is in the pink as it shows its support for those with breast cancer. October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month and the staff at Chinook Credit Union have jumped in to support the cause. Jason Blanke of the Chinook Credit Union tells inSide Drumheller cancer is close to many of their hearts simply because so many people are affected by it. The staff has enthusiastically put their support behind the cause. The branch has turned into a pink paradise, and has an extensive raffle table chock full of pink memorabilia that supporters can try their luck on. Dozens of items such as pink pins, teddy bears, coffee mugs and other memorabilia is for sale. The initiative was directed by the staff. On Friday, expect to see the staff decked out wearing

It’s always nice to get more than you expected, especially when it comes to a winter coat drive. Drumheller Salvation Army Lieutenant Dusty Sauder said this year’s Western GM’s Coats for Kids September 24 ďŹ lled the box on both a threequarter ton pick-up truck and a half-ton pick-up truck. Lt. Sauder estimates this at 20 black garbage bags of winter wear bagged from each truck.

Drumheller’s Shredz donated $4,000 worth of stock to the coat drive, and Canalta purchased all new items to donate. “The big thing is, you’re able to give a teenager a coat, with dignity,� said Lt. Sauder. Encana’s employee fund contributed $140, which Encana will match, to donate to the Salvation Army. Area residents and businesses also dropped by Western GM not only with winter gear, but also to donate $640 in cash. With Canalta and Freson Bros. donating the supplies, people purchased barbecued hot dogs at the dealership, which raised another $208.30 for the Salvation Army. Lt. Laurie Sauder said

Drumheller’s Community Football Association (DCFA) invites everybody out to a super Saturday of football at the DVSS fields. Starting off the day at 9 a.m., the association is holding a food drive in support of Drumheller’s Salvation Army Food Bank. People are able to drop by the football fields to make a donation of a non-perishable food item. DCFA’s Heather Zuccatto said it’s a way for the association to be giving back to the community. One example of that is 12 year-old local football player Aisen McInnis. McInnis donated over $200 to the Drumheller Community Football Association that he made from cashing in bottles from his own bottle drive. Rocky Mountain Equipment’s visit of the Canadian Football League’s Grey Cup trophy helped out local community football. For the Grey Cup’s visit Monday, October 6, Rocky Mountain Manager Brock Harrington arranged with Drumheller Community Football to have visitors pay a five dollar fee to have their photo taken with the cup, with the proceeds going to support the football association. The Badlands Aquatic Club has just started their season and their ďŹ rst swim meets are coming up quickly. The Juniors ďŹ rst meet of the new season is October 19 in Calgary. Coach Sheila Martin said the club expects to send about eight junior swimmers to the meet. The next meet is in Lethbridge October 25 and 26, with at least twelve swimmers travelling to attend. Martin said the Aquatics Club’s numbers are about the same as last year, four coaches and 29 swimmers who have joined. Three of the club’s members are swimmers at the competitive level

a minimum seven years old and able to swim the 25 metre length unassisted. Swimmers with the club meet Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays to practice at Drumheller’s Aquaplex.
