I was lucky enough to play one of the areas and Canada’s (ranked #35) best golf courses recently - St. Thomas Golf and Country Club. Established in 1899, it is one of Canada’s oldest golf clubs, celebrating 125 years in 2024. I won’t share with you my final score, but I did get two birdies!! Only about 5 minutes south of Miller’s Pond, this course is a true gem and a fantastic option for a membership no matter how many strokes!

WALLPAPER – GO BOLD

Wallpaper is coming back and it’s bold, anywhere from geometric to nature inspired. Make a statement with colour, texture or patterns, or a combination.

Geometric patterns can make a strong statement when you bring bold colours into the patterns used. Triangles or hexagons in wallpaper can create quite a modern look for a room or can be used on a wall as an accent. Brings life and intrigue when used.

Stripes horizontal, vertical or diagonal, works nicely with so many décor styles. Bold stripes or thin can give a very appealing look on an accent wall. One colour or multicoloured stripes may work in a modern setting or traditional, experiment and have fun.

Leafy and floral patterns are a great way of creating a space that feels as if you brought the outdoors indoors. Large-scale patterns can create a tropical environment or even a beautiful flower garden.

Textured wallpaper gives interest visually and creates depth. Linen or faux looking finishes as wood, will inspire interest to touch and feel. Bedrooms or large living spaces, offices or recreation rooms are great areas to introduce textured wallpaper. Metallic accent wallpaper, yes, its also back. Bring that gold into your wallpaper for an accent in your dining room or powder room. With some lighting these wallpapers can reflect the light and shimmer creating a luxurious space in your home.

Exotic animal prints are a very bold and can be paired with colour and textured elements throughout a room. One accent wall may be enough or opt to go a little more subtle in a print for an entire room approach.

Large Scenic murals, not like the murals from the past but now can be a work of art. The large-scale murals have come along way, from a city skyline to a mountain range or tropical beach escape. Accent a wall with a large mural and you will feel like you have been transported to another location without doing the traveling.

I NEED A REDESIGN — NOW WHAT?

From a designer’s perspective, this is the fun part — a chance to get creative and explore new ideas. But how do we balance creativity with accuracy and client expectations? Here’s a quick guide to help clients when planning a redesign:

1. What are my needs? Take time to reflect on your long-term goals — after all, this could be your forever home.

2. What do I like about this? Bring inspiration! Photos are a great way to show what you’re drawn to. Ask yourself: what exactly do I like? Is it the open space? The material? The layout?

3. I have an idea in mind. We love hearing your ideas! And yes — a sketch goes a long way. It doesn’t have to be perfect. Even a rough drawing helps us align visions and work together more clearly.

4. But my friend did this, and it worked… Every home is different. What works in one may not work in another due to structure, codes, or HVAC needs. We’ll guide you to the best solution for your space.

Instance: A family moving into a Heatherfield needed more storage in the kitchen. Using this guide, we collaborated on a custom solution - resulting in a stunning, functional, and modern kitchen tailored just for them!

Recipe of the Month

Shrimp with Orzo and Feta

INGREDIENTS:

1-1/4 cups uncooked whole wheat orzo pasta

2 tablespoons olive oil

2 garlic cloves, minced

2 medium tomatoes, chopped

2 tablespoons lemon juice

1-1/4 pounds uncooked shrimp (26-30 per pound), peeled and deveined

2 tablespoons minced fresh cilantro

1/4 teaspoon pepper

1/2 cup crumbled feta cheese

Directions

1. Cook orzo according to package directions. Meanwhile, in a large skillet, heat oil over medium heat. Add garlic; cook and stir 1 minute. Add tomatoes and lemon juice. Bring to a boil. Stir in shrimp. Reduce heat; simmer, uncovered, until shrimp turn pink, 4-5 minutes.

2. Drain orzo. Add orzo, cilantro and pepper to shrimp mixture; heat through. Sprinkle with feta cheese.
