HOW 3RD PARTY VERIFICATION ENSURES DOUG TARRY HOMES GO BEYOND CODE

At Doug Tarry Homes, we don’t just build homes—we build better, smarter, more efficient homes you can count on. One of the key ways we deliver on that promise is through third-party verification.

What does that mean for you? Peace of mind that your home isn’t just meeting minimum building standards—it’s exceeding them.

Independent Testing You Can Trust Every Doug Tarry home undergoes independent third-party testing to ensure it’s built to the rigorous standards of ENERGY STAR® and Net Zero Ready certification. This is not just a label—it’s a detailed process that ensures top performance in energy efficiency, comfort, and sustainability.

Smart Design, Smarter Performance We model each home before it’s even built to determine the optimal size and efficiency of heating and cooling systems. This ensures every room stays comfortable year-round—without wasting energy or driving up your utility bills.

Blower Door Testing for Air-Tightness Air leakage is one of the biggest causes of energy loss in a home. That’s why every Doug Tarry home undergoes a blower door test, which measures how tightly sealed your home really is. The results? Our homes consistently exceed minimum air-tightness requirements, meaning fewer drafts, more comfort, and lower energy bills.

Why It Matters

ü Lower monthly energy costs

ü Greater year-round comfort

ü Healthier indoor air quality

ü Proven performance—not just promises

At Doug Tarry Homes, we believe building better is non-negotiable. That’s why third-party verification is a core part of our process—from day one to move-in day.

Miller’s Pond

I was honored to present the Doug Tarry Scholarship Award to a graduating student at Arthur Voden Secondary School who has demonstrated diligence, conscientiousness, and industriousness. This scholarship is specially awarded to a student pursuing a career in the construction trades or further education in land development, construction, or engineering. We believe in investing in the future of our industry by supporting young talent and educational achievement. Congratulations to this year’s recipient—we can’t wait to see where your journey takes you!

I am still in shambles that the Edmonton Oilers couldn’t get Lord Stanley’s Mug back on Canadian soil! An entertaining playoff run once again, here’s to hoping the saying 3rd times a charm holds true for next season!

Home Ownership

BUYING A HOME WITH A FRIEND COULD BE YOUR KEY TO HOMEOWNERSHIP!

Tired of renting but struggling to afford a home on your own? Co-ownership with a friend or relative could be the creative solution you’ve been looking for. Sharing the down payment and monthly costs can make homeownership far more accessible, but it’s a partnership you don’t want to enter lightly. Here’s what you need to know before signing on the dotted line:

The Pros

Co-ownership lets you combine financial forces so that you can buy sooner, build equity and escape the rental cycle. By splitting costs like utilities, maintenance and mortgage payments, the monthly payments associated with homeownership become much more affordable.

The Cons

Of course, sharing a home comes with trade-offs. You’ll give up some privacy, and your friendship may face unexpected challenges. Living with someone is different from vacationing with them. You’ll need to be honest about habits, boundaries and expectations.

Be Realistic About Compatibility Before you venture out and start looking at properties, ask yourself:

• Are your lifestyles compatible? (clean vs. messy, introvert vs. party-animal)

• Can you communicate openly and honestly about uncomfortable topics?

• How will you divide up responsibilities and shared spaces?

Get Pre-Approved Once you’re confident you’re a good match, book a meeting with a mortgage broker. Getting pre-approved will clarify your budget and protect you against interest rate hikes while you’re out house hunting.

Write Out a Plan As much as you’d like to keep things friendly and casual, you should never rely on verbal agreements. Put everything in writing, including:

• What are the ownership percentages?

• What happens if one person wants to sell?

• Is subletting allowed if one of you moves out?

Clear expectations now can help prevent conflict later. Think of it as a business arrangement that’s designed to protect both your investment and your friendship.

A Strong Plan = A Strong Partnership With open communication, clear boundaries and a solid agreement, co-owning a home can be a smart path to financial security, and it may even strengthen your relationship. Just be sure to plan ahead, stay honest and treat the process with the same seriousness as you would any other major investment.

Home Tight

DID YOU KNOW???

A thermal vane anemometer is a device used to measure the speed of airflow. It combines the principles of both a vane anemometer and a thermal anemometer, utilizing a rotating vane to measure airflow and a heating element to monitor temperature changes caused by the airflow.

This is a device that we use before and after an Aeroseal Duct application to check airflows through vents, and how fast the temperature climbs/ drops when your system is running. This is helpful in checking in practical terms whether Aeroseal Duct has had any direct impact on the performance of your HVAC. To learn more about how Aeroseal can improve your cooling and heating system, find out more at hometight.ca and feel free to get in touch with us!!!
