Welcome to the Big Field! Today, we have the pleasure of hosting one of the pre-season title favorites, Bury St Edmunds RFC. After an exciting opener against Barnes, which lived up to expectations, we now face another equally tough challenge. Our recent encounters with BSE have been just as close and competitive as those with Barnes, so the excitement is sure to continue—along with my pacing on the far side!
At the time of writing, I don’t have the confirmed lineup, but there will be changes due to injuries from last week and some planned absences. This gives others in the squad a great opportunity to step up and make their case for a starting spot. So far this season, we’ve been slow starters in all three matches but have improved as each game progressed, finishing strongly with a win last week against Old Albanians (though we won’t talk about the roast beef!). I’m sure Armand and his team are aiming for a full 80-minute performance today, which will likely be needed after BSE’s impressive victory last week.
We are also delighted to welcome one of our longest-standing sponsors, Downs Solicitors, as today’s spotlight sponsor. Over the years, Downs have been more than just financial supporters—they’ve been trusted advisors and friends. Their guidance and generous backing have contributed immensely to the growth of our youth, women’s, and senior teams. Thank you, Downs Solicitors, for your invaluable and continued support.
As always, we encourage enthusiastic support while showing respect to all the players and officials on duty today. Enjoy the match!
Shaun Hammond Chairman, Dorking Rugby Club
A warm welcome back to The Big Field today!
I’m especially looking forward to this fixture, as I believe both teams will showcase some attractive rugby, and their resilience will certainly be tested.
A special welcome to all the Bury St Edmunds travelling supporters, players, and management that have made the long journey from Suffolk. I hope you have a fantastic day with us, and let’s hope the weather holds out for some great rugby.
Today’s match also highlights Downs Solicitors in Dorking.
Downs have been long-time sponsors and supporters of Dorking Rugby Club. Having been both a personal and commercial client, I cannot speak highly enough of them. Thank you for your continued support, and I hope you have a wonderful day with us.
The Dorking 1st XV had a strong performance last weekend against OA’s and will be aiming to build on that today against BSE. We have great respect for BSE and the way they play, so focusing on the fundamentals will be crucial for us.
I hope everyone has a great day at Dorking RFC, and of course, let’s all get behind the team and show our support!

Known for his calm in front of the tee, his outstanding kicking skills and his overall ability in the middle of the park, Henry Anscombe joined the club over 3 seasons ago now. Whilst the word calm is most definitely not the first that comes to mind if you ask his teammates about him... Henry is one of the heartbeats of the men’s squad.
Having made the very successful move from fly half to centre - a position at which he was named in the Nat 2 East team of the year last season - Henry is this season the 1st XV vice-captain, this week he answers the Cock Facts.
Henry Anscombe

If you had to drive from the Big Field to Lands End who from the club would you want in the car with you?
Jasper in the front with the DJ duties, Henry Smith with the champagne soap, and Tom Howe with the homemade cookies.
Who would be the last person you’d take?
BGR...
What was your best memory from last season?
It’s got to be beating TJs at home with a late try from JK.
Fraser Mosley made the introduction when I moved up to London for work 3 seasons ago. 50 caps later it seems like I made a good choice!
Rugby Inspiration?

What do you like most about coaching/playing at DRFC?
Steak night after five wins in a row. Three wins needed…
After a standout season where she racked up an incredible 30 tries, leading the Women’s team to victory in the NC2 league and earning the honor of representing Surrey Women at Twickenham, Rachel is now stepping up as the newly appointed captain of the Women’s 1st XV. It’s her turn to take on the Cock Facts.
Earliest DRFC Memory?
Playing prop, that soon changed though!
Rugby Inspiration?
Andre Esterhuizen: beast, enough said.
If you had to drive from the Big Field to Lands End who from the club would you want in the car with you?
Probably Jem (Jemma Wood) and Jas (Jasmine Pitt-Payne), they would both bring the tunes and make the journey entertaining.
Who would be the last person you’d take?
Definitely Tash - she would complain the whole journey.
What was your best memory from last season?
Winning the league in our first competitive season, it’s been amazing to see how far the team has come.
What do you like most about coaching/playing at DRFC?
It’s such a welcoming place, you can go to the club and always find someone to talk to. It’s also amazing to see how much the women’s section is supported - we wouldn’t be able to field 2 teams without the club backing us.
