A Dorking ‘Welcome’

A Message from Dorking RFC Minis Chair

It is with great pleasure that I welcome you to the 2025 Dorking RFC minis festival. A very warm welcome to all the players, coaches, families and friends who have made the journey to the Big Field today. I am particularly pleased to be hosting a girls section again this year building on last years success. They are taking pride of place on our 1st XV pitch so it will be an enjoyable morning for all the players.

As with all festivals, organisation is a massive effort and I would like to thank all the volunteers that have made the festival happen, your support is truly appreciated and the camaraderie is a joy to behold.

I would like to take this opportunity to thank Ninja, whose financial support has enabled us to provide all the mini age groups with new gazebos for the festival.

Dorking RFC has had another successful year with all sections of the club playing enjoyable, competitive rugby.

Building for the future, our minis section have had a fantastic season, representing the club at numerous festivals and building friendships through joint training sessions with some great clubs. The minis have access to high quality coaches and age group managers and I would like to thank them for their passion and support during the season, your value is immeasurable.

We all want to have a fantastic, rugby-packed day, so please remember that these are kids and this is just a game. Festivals like this are built on the very core values that make rugby such a great sport, and we embrace them: Teamwork, Respect, Enjoyment, Discipline and Sportsmanship.

Good luck to everyone, enjoy your day.

Code of Conduct

Remember that children play organised sports for their own fun. The focus must be their enjoyment, not yours. They are not there in the first instance to entertain you or to fulfil your vicarious aspirations. Be on your best behaviour. Don’t use profane language or harass players, coaches or referees. Never ridicule or yell at the players for making mistakes or losing.

Remember that children learn best by example. Applaud good play by your team and by members of the opposing team. Show respect for your team’s opponents. Do not publicly question the referee’s judgement and never his/her integrity. Referees are not fair game. Encourage players to play according to the laws. Insist on fair play and do not tolerate foul play, fighting or foul language on the pitch.

Remember that at any point during the Festival, Dorking Rugby Football Club reserves the right to order clubs whose coaches and/or spectators bring the game of Rugby into disrepute by the flouting of these principles to leave the Festival immediately. If you observe an incident, please report it to your age group control.

Touch Rugby?

Touch rugby is where it starts – and often ends – for many a player at Dorking Rugby Club! The non-contact game is played every Wednesday evening from 7:30 pm – 9:15pm and is one of the most inclusive and diverse sections of the club.

It is an excellent and enjoyable way to exercise and everyone is made to feel welcome. Boys, girls, colts, men, women, Derelicts, OAP’s are all welcome to join in – and they all regularly do.

In winter, Touch Rugby is played under floodlights and in summer (when numbers rise) we tend to play until the daylight fades over the beautiful backdrop of Box Hill! Drinks in the clubhouse bar afterwards are highly encouraged for both social and re-hydration purposes!
