We extend a warm welcome to today’s opponents and worthy league champions, Tonbridge Juddians RFC. As the season progressed, there were moments when it seemed this final fixture might determine promotion. However, TJ’s consistent form and ability to clinch tight games, combined with our own variable performances, led to a different outcome. We offer our heartfelt congratulations to TJ’s and wish them the best of luck next year. We hope to be playing you again the following year—just not in this league!
With only bragging rights at stake today, it brings to mind Henley’s promotion a few years back, when we won an entertaining match and somewhat spoiled their promotion party. Can history repeat itself?
I would also like to congratulate our Women’s team on achieving promotion for the second consecutive year—a truly impressive accomplishment. With new players joining regularly, there will be plenty of competition for 1st and 2nd team spots next season.
We are fortunate to have a fantastic group of sponsors supporting the club’s activities, exemplified by today’s spotlight sponsor, Stonebridge Insurance (Commercial). Ben and his team run a top-class insurance operation, and I can personally attest to their excellence. I recommend them without hesitation, and the club benefits as well.
Finally, thank you to all the players, coaches, and support staff for a wonderful season filled with entertainment and camaraderie. Let’s finish on a high note and look forward to building on our successes next year.
Shaun Hammond Chairman, Dorking Rugby Club
Welcome back to The Big Field, where we’re all looking forward to celebrating what’s been a hugely successful season for the club. A special welcome to TJ’s players, management, and supporters—great to have you with us today. Huge congratulations on your promotion to National 1, a fantastic achievement.
A big thank you as well to our match day sponsor, Stonebridge, who have been brilliant supporters of the club over the years. Thank you to Ben and your team for everything you do.
Today’s clash is set to be a great one, 1st vs 2nd, and for Dorking, it’s a little more than that. It’s a bittersweet chance to go toe-to-toe with the team that earned the promotion we’ve been chasing all season.
Thank you to all the players and management for your incredible efforts throughout 2023/24. We’ve still got a few wrap-up meetings ahead, but what a season it’s been, packed with memories we’ll take with us. To our travelling supporters: I can’t thank you enough. The cheers and the beers have been class, and seeing the Dorking faithful out in all weather is one of the reasons I love what I do. (And yes… looks like we’ll be heading to Guernsey together next season again!)
I also want to take a moment to thank Craig Holland, who plays his final game for Dorking today. It’s been a real pleasure having him around. His work ethic and voice on and off the pitch will be missed.
So now, as we turn our attention to the 3pm kick-off, let’s get behind the lads and support them over the line.
This one matters.
Your DoR, Armand #wacomb
Armand Roux Director of Rugby, Dorking Rugby Club
2024/2025
Today we welcome Tonbridge Juddians to The Big Field for the final game of the season. After a strong campaign in National 2 East, Tonbridge Juddians have secured their promotion back to National 1 rugby, following their relegation in 2023.
Tonbridge Juddians Rugby Football Club is based in Tonbridge, Kent. The club runs four senior teams, a ladies side, and a full range of junior squads. Tonbridge RFC, founded in 1904, and Old Juddians RFC, formed in 1928, merged in 1999 to create Tonbridge Juddians RFC. Over the years, they have risen through the leagues, spending several years in National 1 before being relegated to National 2. After two seasons in National 2, they’ve had a dominant campaign securing their return to National 1 alongside the league title in round 25.
Tonbridge Juddians have shown their strength throughout the season and have been a dominant force. Despite the promotion already secured, they’ll be aiming to finish the season with a strong performance.
There may be nothing left to play for in terms of the league title, with Tonbridge Juddians having mathematically secured the National 2 East crown ahead of the final round, but both sides will be eager to finish their campaigns on a high. For Dorking, it’s a chance to measure themselves once more against the benchmark this season, and for the visitors, a shot at signing off their title-winning year with a statement away win.
As ever, we anticipate a tough contest today. All signs point to another tightly fought encounter at The Big Field.

Previous clubs?
Rosslyn Park, Chinnor, London Scottish, Cornish Pirates
When did you join DRFC?
I joined at the start of the 23/24 season. Armand and I met when I played for Surrey back in 2022, and we stayed in touch ever since.
Earliest DRFC Memory?
The pre-training indoor cricket in the gym.
Rugby Inspiration?
Tom Hardwick (Unofficial ViceCaptain)
If you had to drive from the Big Field to Land’s End, who from the club would you want in the car with you?
Will Sanders, Tom Howe, and Cam Cowell – we’d have an incredible game of nause.
Who would be the last person you’d take?
Jack Bairstow – he’d just quote the RFU coaching manual the whole way.
What was your best memory in a Dorking shirt?
The multiple times we’ve beaten Barnes in the last five minutes.
What do you like most about playing at DRFC?
The biggest metric of a successful club for me is how many lads are training on a Tuesday or Thursday – and we always have 40–50+. It speaks volumes about how well the boys are looked after by the club and coaches.
When did you join DRFC?
I joined Dorking midway through the 2021/22 season. I had recently moved to the area and was doing touch at Reigate; they were the ones who recommended Dorking as the contact team I should join. That was my first time trying rugby and I definitely got hooked!
Earliest DRFC Memory?
It was my first game for Dorking and I remember the pitch had a dead bird and loads of dog poo all over it. I also had my hand stamped on and was taped for a couple of weeks.
Rugby inspiration?
Jonny Wilkinson and Ellie Kildunne. They are both so effortless and intuitive with the ball. I’ve lost count of how many jaw dropping moments they’ve both had.
If you had to drive from the Big Field to Lands End who from the club would you want in the car with you? Lexie, Esme and Lauren. Lexie is an amazing singer so could do some carpool karaoke. Esme because she’s always got some good gossip and Lauren because she’s funny and always brings good vibes.
Who would be the last person you’d take?
Probably Lynnie because my car would be filled with burps.
What was your best memory in a Dorking shirt?
The final game in NC3. We’d gone unbeaten in that league and once that final whistle went we all ran and hugged each other, there was so much emotion. We all felt so proud of how far we’d come from development to NC3. Now we’ve even one-upped that and got promoted again!
What do you like most about playing at DRFC?
The facilities and support from the other teams, especially the Girls teams. I love that we’re creating a path for them to move up to a well established Women’s team. The Guard of Honour when we run out never stops making me feel like a really valued and respected member of Dorking club.
Following the incredible success of our sold-out inaugural event last October, we're thrilled to announce the return of the DRFC City Lunch at Smith & Wollensky this coming October. Stay tuned in the coming weeks for more details and ticket information.
As the season concludes, we say goodbye to two key members of our squad. Club captain and stalwart Henry Smith is set to embark on a new adventure in Australia, while Craig Holland has announced his retirement after two impactful seasons with us. As they conclude their journeys with the club, both have taken a moment to share a few words with our community.
It’s been a journey!
Near enough a quarter of a century of mud, sweat, and tears. From my initial years tormenting Paul, Phil and the other minis coaches with a combined lack of ability and attention span, to now where neither has improved that much.
I would like to thank everyone who has been a part of my Dorking experience, coaches, players, back room staff, members.
This is a truly amazing and unique club and I am honoured to have been a part of it.
I’m sure this is not goodbye forever, and I look forward to following the growth and success of DRFC in the coming years!
#WACOMB (Up the screws!).
I just want to thank everyone at the club for the last two years; the coaches, backroom staff, the Three Wise Men, and most importantly, the boys.
I couldn’t wish for a better club to end my career at.
I only wish I’d joined sooner and had more run-outs at the Big Field, but I’ll be down regularly to watch the boys rip in next season.
#WACOMB.
