At Downs Solicitors, we are immensely proud to be one of the Lead Sponsors of Dorking Rugby and Football Club (DRFC). As a longstanding member of the Dorking community, we share a connection with this valued club, which has been a cornerstone of local life, fostering not just talent, but also the sportsmanship and community spirit that make Dorking special.
Our partnership with DRFC is more than just a sponsorship—it’s a reflection of our shared values of integrity, teamwork, and a commitment to excellence, whether on the rugby field or in our legal practice. Having served the Dorking community for over 180 years, with offices also in Cobham and Godalming, we are committed to supporting those initiatives that tmatter to our neighbours.
We know that DRFC is about more than rugby. It’s about nurturing young talent, promoting health and fitness, and, perhaps most importantly, bringing people together. By supporting the club, we’re not just investing in local sports; we’re investing in the future of our community. We’re here to help ensure that DRFC continues to thrive and that it remains a place where people of all ages can come together, whether they’re on the pitch, in the stands, or simply cheering from the sidelines.
As a local firm, we’re here for you, offering expert legal advice to businesses and individuals across Surrey. If you need guidance or have any questions, whether they’re about property, wills, family matters, or your business, don’t hesitate to reach out to us.
We’re always happy to have a chat and see how we can support you—just as we support DRFC.

TACKLING YOUR MOVE WITH EASE
A VIEW FROM THE CHAIR
A warm welcome to the Big Field to today’s opponents Worthing RFC. In all the differing seasons that we have been in National 2, Worthing have been a consistent quality outfit, always near the top of the table, playing a very attractive brand of rugby.
So it is of some surprise that when we meet today, Worthing are currently in the relegation zone. However, a quick look at the result and it could have been very different again; I think 8 losing bonus points coming out the wrong side of many encounters. Thus, I see this turning out to be the traditional close, hard-fought match with a significant amount of open, attractive rugby on display.
An additional welcome and thank you to spotlight and lead sponsor Downs, who have supported the club and its activities for a decade, and moreover, I understand this will be Chris Miller’s last official lunch as senior partner prior to a well-deserved retirement with Sue. Chris has been a wonderful advocate for the club and moreover, contributed to both the Rugby Club and Brockham Big Field as a volunteer, allowing us access to a sharp legal mind.
Thank you, Chris, and we look forward to another decade working with the special people at Downs.
Kind regards, Shaun
Shaun Hammond Chairman, Dorking Rugby Club
A WORD FROM THE DOR
Welcome back to The Big Field today, where we are hosting Worthing RFC.
It’s been one hell of a season so far, and having two teams at home against local Nat 2 rivals doesn’t get any better than this.
Worthing are in a position at the moment where they are fighting for survival in National 2, which will, of course, mean that they will be up for this one.
We are fresh off a historic win over Sevenoaks in Kent last weekend, where we finally put the Sevenoaks bogey to bed with a five-point win on the road.
A special welcome to Downs Solicitors, who have been our main sponsor for some time. I, for one, am simply delighted that Downs have supported Dorking for so long. It’s only fitting that a fantastic law firm, founded in Dorking in 1836, has helped us reach the level of inclusivity and diversity we are seeing today.
I hope you all enjoy your day with us, where we strive to uphold rugby values, maintain rugby standards, and have fun in the process.
Your DoR, Armand #wacomb
Armand Roux Director of Rugby, Dorking Rugby Club
TODAY’S OPPONENTS - WORTHING
This weekend, we welcome Worthing RFC to The Big Field, a club with a proud history dating back to its founding in 1920. Worthing have been a key part of English rugby, with their first XV competing in the fourth tier of the league system, National League 2 East. Worthing made history in 2013 by becoming the first Sussex club to reach the third tier after a dramatic play-off victory over Stourbridge.
Over the years, Worthing has built a strong rugby culture, particularly at the junior level. The club was one of the pioneers of mini rugby in England, hosting one of the country’s first mini rugby festivals, which attracted hundreds of teams in the early 1990s. Their commitment to player development continues today, with multiple senior teams and a women’s side.
This season, however, has been a challenging one for The Raiders, and they arrive at The Big Field sitting at the bottom of the table. With relegation a real possibility, they will be fighting to keep their survival hopes alive. Dorking will take confidence from their 61-34 victory at Roundstone Lane in November, but Worthing has shown they are capable of scoring points, and with everything on the line, they will be determined to put in a strong performance.
We look forward to a competitive and thrilling clash this weekend as we welcome our south coast neighbours to The Big Field. A warm welcome to all players, supporters, and officials from Worthing RFC.

COCK FACTS - TOM NAIRN
When did you join DRFC?
I joined in the 2019/20 season. I was playing in the Hokey Cokey league in London after university, but luckily, I had a mate at the club—Joel (not Cal Watson!)—who brought me over.
Earliest DRFC Memory?
Losing a five-skin off to Dobbo in my first game by about £1.20.
Rugby Inspiration?
Elbrow—or anyone who’s spent more time on the injury bed than me and still wants to play again!
If you had to drive from the Big Field to Lands End who from the club would you want in the car with you?
I think this car’s going to need to be a 4x4, so first up, Scotty—designated driver, loves driving, and doesn’t drink on away days.
Second, Max Sheldrake—for all his one-liners and terrible chat.
Third, a bit of an outsider—Tyler. The boy brings nothing but good energy.
Who would be the last person you’d take?
Gamu, Nick Argy, or Henry Smith—all offer very little.
What was your best memory in a Dorking shirt?
Probably the first time I ran out for the 1s at the Big Field.
What do you like most about playing at DRFC?
Other than the physios putting my ankles back together every year, it’s got to be the vibe and the solidarity around the club—such a social club!
COCK FACTS - RYAN MAGUIRE
When did you join DRFC?
I joined Dorking for the 2024/25 season as I wanted to find the love for playing rugby again. I knew a couple of the players from my Worthing days, and one of them told me to come give it a go.
Ryan in action for Horsham
Earliest DRFC Memory?
Pre-season and wearing the GPS trackers.
Rugby inspiration?
When I first wanted to play at 15/16, my dad told me he didn’t think I was physical enough for rugby. That stuck with me.
If you had to drive from the Big Field to Lands End who from the club would you want in the car with you?
Auntie Bev—for his chat.
Max Sheldrake—he’s got all the stories and gossip around the club.
Daragh—because he’s so humble.
Who would be the last person you’d take?
Charlie Connor—he looks like he’d want to stop for a piss too often.
Ryan playing for Worthing
What was your best memory in a Dorking shirt?
Making my 1s debut, which was also my 25th National 2 game, and winning against my old club, Worthing.
What do you like most about playing at DRFC?
How nice and friendly everyone is— from players and coaches to staff and spectators. It’s just a great atmosphere.
