ADOPT-A-STREET Program Participants Help “Keep Doral Beautiful”
n 2005, with the help of Mayor Juan Carlos Bermudez, the City of Doral adopted by resolution the Adopt-a-Street program, which encourages volunteer groups to clean-up litter from the streets of Doral, promoting cleanliness throughout the City’s rights-of-way. This program provides a great opportunity for civic, social, educational, commercial, and religious organizations to get involved in a citywide project that benefits all of us. “It’s important that our residents and businesses come together for the common goal of maintaining a beautiful and clean city for all to enjoy,” said Mayor Juan Carlos Bermudez. “I am very grateful for the participation of all the organizations that have stepped up to make a difference in the community – together we accomplish more!” Through the program’s agreement, the group conducts cleanup activities four times a year for two years. The amount of trash removed from the City’s right-ofway is then weighed and reported to the National Pollutant Discharge Elimination System (NPDES) on a yearly basis. To commemorate the partnership the City then installs two signs with the name of the organization and displays it along the street. In 2018, the Public Works Department received over 10 applications in addition to the ones that were approved in previous years. Participants were provided with all materials to perform their cleaning activities and at the end of the first cleanup activity the City captured group pictures next to the newly installed sign. This year’s new participants are “The More-Roman Family”, “Toys for Kids Miami Foundation”, AMLI Doral, Doral Chamber of Commerce, New Media New Marketing, Keller Williams International Lifestyles Realty, Miami Embroidery Corp., and Munar Law. They join “The Venezuelan Business Club, Inc.”, “USW SouthCom First Class Petty Officers Association”, “Costa-del-Sol Association, Inc.”, “Girls Scouts Troop 552- Doral”, and “Divine Savior Church Youth Ministry”. n 2005, con la ayuda del alcalde Juan Carlos Bermúdez, la ciudad de Doral adoptó como resolución el programa “Adopt-a-Street”, el cual anima a los grupos de voluntarios a limpiar las calles de Doral, promoviendo así la limpieza en toda la ciudad. Este programa ofrece una gran oportunidad para que las organizaciones cívicas, sociales, educativas, comerciales y religiosas se involucren en un proyecto en el cual no solamente la ciudad se beneficia, sino que beneficia a todos. “Es importante que nuestros residentes y negocios se unan alrededor de un objetivo común al mantener la ciudad hermosa y limpia para que todos la disfruten”, dijo el alcalde Juan Carlos Bermúdez. “Estoy muy agradecido por la participación de todas las organizaciones que han dado un paso adelante para hacer una diferencia en la comunidad. ¡Juntos logramos más!” A través del acuerdo que se ha convenido con el programa, el grupo realiza actividades de limpieza cuatro veces al año durante dos años. La cantidad de basura eliminada autorizada por la Ciudad se pesa y se informa anualmente al Sistema Nacional de Eliminación de Descargas Contaminantes (NPDES). Para conmemorar esta alianza, la Ciudad instaló dos avisos con el nombre de la organización y estará expuesto a lo largo de la calle. En 2018, el Departamento de Obras Públicas recibió más de 10 solicitudes además de las aprobadas en años anteriores. Los participantes recibieron todos los materiales necesarios para realizar sus actividades de limpieza y al final de la primera actividad de limpieza, la Ciudad tomó imágenes grupales junto al letrero recién instalado. Se unen a “The Venezuelan Business Club, Inc.”, “Asociación de Suboficiales de Primera Clase USW SouthCom”, “Asociación Costa-del-Sol, Inc.”, “Tropa de Niñas Exploradoras 552- Doral” y “Ministerio Juvenil de la Iglesia del Divino Salvador “.
