News q Ca Mau Cape to become national tourist site

Ca Mau Cape, the southernmost point of Vietnam, was approved to develop into a national tourist site by 2030. Ca Mau Cape in Ca Mau Province is one of five national tourist sites slated for development in the Mekong Delta. This will be the core zone with a focus on the development of services and entertainment centers, plus ecological resorts in the mangrove forest. It includes the Ca Mau Cape cultural and tourist park, sea-and mangrove forest ecological sites, a community-based village ecological tourism site, farming village ecological tourism site and the Khai Long sea tourism complex. In the long term, the area will attract domestic and international visitors from West Europe & Southeast Asia ●

p Hung Yen Longan Festival 2018 p Oktoberfest to take place in Ho Chi Minh City in September

The German Business Association (GBA)’s annual Oktoberfest event will be held from September 19-22 at Hotel Nikko Saigon, aiming to create an authentic Bavarian party atmosphere in Vietnam. Experience the atmosphere found in the massive outdoor beer tents of the original Oktoberfest in Munich, complemented by traditional German cuisine, premium imported German beer, and authentic music from our Munich-based Oktoberfest Band. An expected 9,000 local and expat guests will enjoy the festivities. The GBA Oktoberfest Viet Nam is jointly hosted by GBA and the Delegation of German Industry and Commerce in Vietnam under the patronage of the Embassy of the Federal Republic of Germany in Hanoi and the German Consulate General in Ho Chi Minh City ●

p 44 new caves found in Phong Nha – Ke Bang national park An additional 44 caves have been discovered in Phong Nha – Ke Bang National Park, raising the total known caves in this area to 405, according to the park’s management board. Of those, 33 are located in Dan Hoa, Hoa Son, Trung Hoa and Thuong Hoa communes in Minh Hoa district; nine are in Son Trach commune, Bo Trach district and the remaining in Truong Son and Truong Xuan communes, Quang Ninh district. As part of the six geological strata of La Khe, Bac Son, Mu Gia, Cat Dang, Muc Bai and Le Ninh, the caves are 44-602m from the seawater level. In 2018, Quang Binh strives to greet 3.5 million tourists by the end of the year, including 120,000 foreigners ●

p Flamingo Dai Lai Resort wins record for having most plants in Vietnam

Flamingo Dai Lai Resort has received new records from the Vietnam Record Organization, bringing the resort’s total number of awards and special records to 46. Among the records, three were given to the Forest in the Sky building for having the largest number of plants in Vietnam, the largest hanging garden in Vietnam and the largest spa area - the SEVA Spa & Beauty Destination. Flamingo Resort Dai Lai Resort was also granted the record for winning the largest number of architectural awards in the country ●

p First intangible cultural heritage festival to be held in Tuyen Quang

The first festival on the world’s intangible cultural heritages and the Tuyen Quang City Festival will take place in the Northern mountainous province of Tuyen Quang in September. Promising to feature many cultural and artistic activities, the festival is expected to attract the participation of provinces from across the country. Globally-recognized Vietnamese intangible cultural heritages will be featured, including Thua Thien - Hue’s Nha Nhac (Royal Court Music), the Gong culture space in Tay Nguyen (Central Highlands), Bac Ninh’s Quan Ho (Love Duet Singing), Ca Tru ceremonial singing, Xoan singing, and Don Ca Tai Tu music, among others. There will be many international delegations and embassies from ASEAN, China, Japan and the Republic of Korea ●

The second Hung Yen Longan Festival 2018 opened in the Northern Province of Hung Yen on August 11, aiming to introduce longan and other local farm products, presented in 50 pavilions to tourists and potential local & international business partners. Hung Yen province is a large longan farming hub with over 3,800ha of longan at harvest time. It is expected that the province will reap over 41,000 tons of longan this year. More than 100 orders have been signed at the event, selling nearly 3,000 tons of longan to domestic and foreign markets including the U.S., China, Japan and the Republic of Korea. According to local growers, this year has enjoyed a bumper harvest of longan with the total output estimated to increase by 30% over the previous year ●

p Organic cacao powder factory inaugurated in Ba Ria-Vung Tau

Amazon Foods Co., Ltd. put into operation a factory to produce cacao powder and chocolate candies of the brand Bapula in Tan Hai commune, Ba Ria-Vung Tau province. The factory covers an area of 700 meters square, using a production line of Belgian technology with a capacity of roughly 1 tons per month. The main source of cacao for chocolate production is supplied from Chau Duc district. The factory offers products such as cacao beans, cacao powder, chocolate candies, cacao powder 3 in 1, etc. In addition, a stopover was built on the grounds of the factory for visitors to tour and experience the process of making chocolate ●

p Ho Tram condotel to benefit from new travel trends

Nha Trang, Danang, and Phu Quoc are witnessing a boom in the condotel business segment. This is also borne out by Intage Vietnam’s survey (of 400 people in Ho Chi Minh City and Hanoi) which found that nearly 50% opt for short trips during weekends and special occasions. Ho Tram Strip and its new addition, Ramada Kahuna, are the next promising destinations for investment in condotels. Thanks to the excellent roads and its location only two hours from Ho Chi Minh City, Ho Tram has a head start in this new travel trend of short trips and self-discovery drives. According to the developer's report, Ho Tram attracts more than 200,000 visitors a year ●

p Da Nang plans to become ASEAN logistics centres

The central city plans to build a logistics complex to position Da Nang as a key entry point into logistics chains providing services for the central and central Highlands regions, as well as the import-export exchange among ASEAN partners via the East-West Economic Corridor (EWEC) by 2030. The complex will be located in the northwest part of the city on 312ha with total investment of VND14 trillion (US$620 million). Da Nang’s complex will include a series of logistics centers linked by a system of roads and rail lines. The major nodes in the complex will be the newly designed Lien Chieu deep-sea port, Hoa Nhon; the newly built Kim Lien railway station; an airport and hi-tech park with international-standard warehouses; and an inland clearance depot railway and entry point to road connections ●

p First Hanoi Food Culture Festival to lure tourists

The very first Hanoi Food Culture Festival 2018 will take place in the capital city from October 5-10, introducing Hanoi’s cuisine legacy. The festival will recapture cultural spaces of craft villages associated with outstanding Hanoi food such as Pho, Thanh Tri steamed roll rice pancakes, Vong and Me Tri green rice flakes, Quan Ganh rice cake, and Uoc Le pork pies. A photo exhibition on Hanoi cultural history and cuisine will also be held. There will be a major stage featuring exchanges with artisans and researchers on Hanoi cuisine as well as folk games to help tourists better understand the value of Hanoi cuisine. Visitors will also have a chance to enjoy food cooked in traditional ways. The organizing board hopes that the event will contribute to promoting tourism in Hanoi in particular and Vietnam in general ●

p Sapa named among the 50 most beautiful places on the planet

Sapa, in the northern mountainous province of Lao Cai, has been included in a new list of the top 50 most beautiful places on the planet by travel site PureWow. Sapa follows Seljalandsfoss in Iceland, one of the most famous waterfalls in Iceland’s south region, Torres del Paine National Park in Chile, Li River in China, and the fishing village of Manarola in Italy. Known for its trekking trails, Sapa has become very popular in the sector of ecotourism with strenuous mountain treks and rice paddy tours ●

p Moody’s upgrades Vietnam’s ratings

Moody’s Investors Service on Friday upgraded the Government of Vietnam’s long-term issuer and senior unsecured ratings to Ba3 from B1 and changed the outlook to stable from positive. “The upgrade to Ba3 is underpinned by strong growth potential, supported by increasingly efficient use of labor and capital in the economy. A long average maturity of government debt and a diminishing reliance on foreign-currency debt point to a stable and gradually moderating government debt burden, particularly if strong growth is sustained over time. The structure of Vietnam’s government debt also limits susceptibility to financial shocks. The upgrade also reflects improvements in the health of the banking sector that Moody’s expects to be maintained, albeit from relatively weak levels”. The short-term FC bond and deposit ceilings remain unchanged at Not Prime. Vietnam’s local currency bond and deposit ceilings remain unchanged at Baa3 ●

In the past, Con Dao served as a prison for political prisoners during the French colonial era (also known as Poulo Condore). In later years, the Saigon regime imprisoned its opponents in the “tiger cages”, which are still famous to this day. The old prison buildings still remain and are open to the public as a small museum for visitors to explore. Nowadays, the archipelago has become a must-visit destination when visiting Vietnam, attracting tourists from all over the world. According to Con

Dao’s tourism development plan for 2030, development needs will be prioritized, especially for maritime and forest resources, ecotourism and spiritual tourism. For the first 6 months of 2018, there has been a significant rise in the number of tourists to Con Dao (an increase of 55.4% compared to same period in 2017). In addition to boats carrying 200 passengers from Vung Tau, and two boats departing from Tran De Seagate in Soc Trang province, the flights from Ho Chi Minh City have tripled since the end of 2017. Con Dao is fortunately flat and not too expansive. Therefore, visitors can easily rent a motorbike/scouter to visit and discover the full island. rom the top of Khau Pha hill, visitors will have a panoramic view over the Cao Pha valley with winding paths leading to borderless rice fields. Each patch of color -- green and yellow of the field, brown of the land, and blue of the sky -- intertwine with each other to form an unrealistically glorious scene of nature. In the early morning, the terraced fields appear like a natural stair leading up to the sky. At the foot of the mountain, there are the tiny houses of the ethnic minorities of Lim Mong and Lim Thai. Visible are the figures of locals working under the early morning’s golden shine. Each scene, each activity is like a picture in a whole wonderful exhibition of nature, which would cast a spell on any visitor. ChevroleT “Chevrolet TrailBlazer: The journey of discovery” is Chevrolet’s newest SUV experience program by General Motors Vietnam (GM). Participants in the trip had a fascinating adventure full of mystery and unforgettable memories, travelling for 3 days from Pleiku to Nha Trang. By Ha Phan

he most exciting part of the trip was how GM did not reveal any information about the itinerary. The fact that no-one was familiar with the route or destination made the trip full of surprise and spontaneity. The first day was quite challenging due to the long time travelling, but what waited ahead was totally worth the effort. From Pleiku Airport to Bien Ho, then to Mang Den, Kontum, we finally reached Dak Ke lake, an ideal location for camping or short getaway. Our next destination was Vinh Son lake, also known as “the dead lake.” Situated in the middle of an immense reddish land, the lake was extremely quiet but its pristine and fanciful scene created an unusual and extraordinary attraction. We felt like tiny beings standing in front of such a magnificent masterpiece of nature. We ended our first day with a picturesque view of mountains, forests and the lake. The second day was all about the sea. From Quy Nhon, we headed to Dai Lanh beach, Khanh Hoa province. On the mountain pass, we had a “jawdropping” moment in front of unbelievable beauty. Far away, the blue seawater was alive with many tiny fishing boats, and the majestic mountains in the background. It was charming, amazing and unexpected. We ended the second day by driving on a long asphalt road through endless white sand beaches on our way to Light Coral Island. The last day of the journey was mainly for resting and relaxation as we went snorkeling, coral viewing, fishing, kayaking and many other activities. iều đặc biệt ở chuyến đi lần này là GM đã không hề tiết lộ trước bất cứ lịch trình, địa điểm nào của chuyến đi, thêm nữa đây là những cung đường, địa danh mà chưa mấy ai lui tới. Ngày đầu tiên, cũng là ngày vất vả vì phải di chuyển nhiều nhất, nhưng những gì mà chúng tôi nhận lại được là hoàn toàn xứng đáng với công sức bỏ ra. Di chuyển từ sân bay Pleiku tới Biển Hồ, rồi tới Măng Đen, Kontum, nơi sở hữu hồ Đắk Ke. Sự kết hợp của nước, của đất và của rừng cây nơi đây thật sự đem đến một khoảng không lý tưởng để có thể tổ chức cắm trại, ăn nhẹ và nghỉ ngơi thư giãn. Trải qua nhiều cung đường hiểm trở, đoàn đã đến điểm đến tiếp theo, Hồ Vĩnh Sơn hay “hồ chết”. Giữa một khoảng đất đỏ rộng bao la với những thân cây không còn sự sống là một lòng hồ không gợn sóng. Một cảnh tượng choáng ngợp và bạn sẽ cảm thấy mình như bé lại để được đắm chìm vào khoảng trời kỳ vĩ ấy. Ngày thứ hai, chúng tôi đã “trở về” với biển cả. Từ Quy Nhơn, đoàn hướng thẳng đến bờ biển Đại Lãnh, Khánh Hòa. Nhìn từ xa một màu xanh ngắt của biển và trời, cùng hàng trăm con thuyền đánh cá thu nhỏ giữa những dãy núi hùng vĩ, tất cả tô điểm nên một bức tranh đầy thơ mộng và quyến rũ. Chúng tôi kết thúc ngày thứ 2 trên cùng đường ra đảo Light Coral. Làn đường nhựa dài típ tắp, bao vây xung quanh bởi bãi cát trắng trải dài vô tận khiến ta liên tưởng ngay đến những cung đường sa mạc tuyệt đẹp của Mỹ. Ngày cuối cùng của chuyến hành trình là những hoạt động bên bờ biển như lặn biển ngắm san hô, câu cá, chèo thuyền… đem đến những phút phút thư giãn, giải trí tuyệt vời sau những ngày dài lăn bánh trên đường. Hành trình khám phá thực sự đã để lại cho mỗi thành viên trong đoàn những kỷ niệm và cảm xúc khó quên. 기억의 조각들을 모아서 Surely for everyone of us there is a place to return to, our Hometown. For those who had spent their childhood in the countryside of Vietnam, the images of bamboo trees at the village entrance, banyan trees by the pond, children playing flute on the buffalo, herding flock… are the sweetest reminiscences that will never fade. I was born and grew up in a rural area of Vietnam, before life drove me away for school and work. Nowadays, when time has put a new appearance on my village, there is always a part of me wanting to relive the recollections of childhood, to once again find happiness and joy within its simplicity. Therefore, I came to photography, wandering the countryside and hoping to capture my lost memories. 34 Leisure & Travel Sept.2018

누구에게나 고향이 있다. 돌아가고 싶다면 언제든지 돌아갈 수 있는 그런 안식처 말이다. 베트남의 시골에서 유년기를 보낸 사람이라면 어김없이 떠올리는 마을 어귀에 뻗어 있는 대나무와 연못 옆의 반얀나무(벵골보리수), 물소 위에서 피리를 부는 아이, 소떼들… 마음 속에 영원히 자리 잡고 있는 고향의 풍경이다. 베트남의 시골에서 태어나고 자란 나는 학교를 다니고 직장에 취직하면서 그 삶에서 멀어졌다. 요즘들어 마을에 새로운 무언가가 생겨날 때마다 어린 시절의 추억이 떠오르는데, 그 때마다 그 시절의 행복과 소소한 기쁨들을 되새기곤 한다. 사진작가로써 그 시절 기억의 조각들을 내가 찍는 사진들을 통해 되살려보고 싶다. Một chốn đi về Chắc hẳn trong mỗi chúng ta, ai cũng có một nơi để trở về, đó là Quê hương. Với những ai đã sinh ra và lớn lên ở các vùng quê khác nhau ở tại Việt Nam chắc không thể nào quên được những hình ảnh quá đỗi quen thuộc của lũy tre bên bờ đê, cây đa giếng nước, sân đình, ao cá, những buổi ráng chiều cùng đám bạn chăn trâu thả diều, thổi sáo…lắng đọng như những ký ức ngọt ngào, không bao giờ phai nhoà. Tôi cũng sinh ra và lớn lên trên một vùng quê nghèo, rồi cuộc sống khiến tôi phải rời quê đi học và đi làm xa. Thời gian đã khoác lên vùng quê tôi một diện mạo mới, nhưng ký ức tuổi thơ cứ đeo đuổi tôi, thôi thúc tôi tìm lại những khoảnh khắc thời xa vắng. Adjacent to the romantic Hoi An ancient city is the soon-to-be-open luxurious golf and entertainment complex. Leisure & Travel had an exclusive interview with Ben Styles, the Managing Director of this project. Can you tell us about Hoiana?

Hoiana is situated just ten minutes south of Hoi An City and is earmarked to become one of the region’s most significant developments in recent times. With the vision of VinaCapital, VMS Investment Group and SunCity Group, the project is currently mid-way through phase 1. Golf is one of the major leisure attractions, with the course and clubhouse currently under construction. Hoiana Shores Golf Club will not only be framed by some of the most pristine coastline and stunning natural scenery, but a host of amenities; luxury resorts and residential communities, gaming and entertainment, waterparks and retail. The master plan is as comprehensive as you will see and the commitment to quality is unmatched.

Can you tell us about the designer?

Robert Trent Jones Jnr. was selected as the golf course designer following a comprehensive tender program. Selected from a list of world renowned designers, it was Jones Jnr’s authenticity, artistry and experience that stood out. The ownership group were looking for something distinctive, emblematic of the region’s status. Given the quality of the site, there was no stone unturned to ensure the selected design 52 Leisure & Travel Sept.2018

partner carried certain qualities to bring to life the vision. RTJ Jnr’s team are part of a select few who can draw on past experiences of having worked in the games golden era of design and who have rubbed shoulders with legends in their field. The son of one of the game’s true pioneers, it has become clear to all that RTJ II has brought us something very special. No doubt his ability to draw on his wealth of experience in designing over 270 courses worldwide has helped matters.

Why Hoi An was chosen to build the golf course?

When you see the site for the first time, you feel that it was just tailor made for a spectacular golf course. Danang has established itself as a serious global golf destination and with our proximity to Hoi An, alongside the depth of the whole destination plan, it was the perfect fit to build a Championship course. Furthermore, golf is a major economic driver, attracting a valuable demographic. With the tourism pull and the premier status the golf club will evoke, the strategic direction was another major indicator that golf had a new home in Hoiana.

What are the outstanding aspects of the project?

The golf course has been described as a pure

symphony of golf. It has been modelled on some of the world’s most recognized traditional links courses which will create a one-of-a-kind experience. RTJ II has encapsulated the essence of how rolling sand dunes alongside the seascape can set the tone of the golf course and bring the real links-land experience to the fore. Watching him work with Mother Nature in refining his philosophy to match what the site gave him was as experience I will carry with me long into my career. Two aspects I think that golfers will remember: the finishing stretch and our unique pins. There was desire from the outset to create a spectacular finish, something with a real crescendo that kept golfers wanting to come back. The finishing stretch is flanked by the most picturesque ocean scene. The famed Cham Islands as the back drop, the drama of the ocean hitting the shore, all within touching distance of our closing stretch. Also, Hoi An is recognized as the city of lanterns. Given its symbolic stature in Hoi An’s heritage, but also Vietnamese culture, we set about looking at how to integrate them into club life. When we experimented with them as alternatives to pin flags, it became crystal clear that the lantern would play a major part in our story and lead part of the treasured narrative of Hoi An.

What are your target customers?

There will be balance between exclusive membership and inbound visitation from domestic and international travel. The levels of difficulty will accommodate every level of play, so we can ensure the best experience for all preferences. With the scale and appeal of the destination, we expect to see a considerable influx of Korean, Chinese and Japanese and some of golf’s more mature golf travel markets; UK, USA and Germany are also expected to include Hoiana in their golf travel considerations with the everincreasing uplift into Danang.

How can this new course bring more value to this golf hub?

Danang has championed Vietnam’s cumulative attraction model in golf. Having been part of Danang’s growth as

Hanako Kawasaki, Doan Xuan Khue Minh and Ngo Le Hoang Nam Phuong have represented Vietnam at the RSGC Ladies Amateur Open Championship 2018 from August 10th – 12th at Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. Hanako was the best Vietnamese player with the score of 225 (par 73) after 3 rounds and ranked 6th on a field of 69 golfers. Both Nam Phuong and Khue Minh shot 251. On 18th July 2018, the “England Open” – the 6th tournament of “European Vietnamese Golf Association” had taken place at London Golf Club – Course International, England. This is one of the courses that host the European Tour’s events and houses the headquarters of European Tour. There were 108 golfers competing at the tournament from Austria, Germany, Czech Republic, Slovakia, Hungary, Bulgaria, Denmark, Poland, France, Ireland and Vietnam. On 27th – 28th July 2018, the 2nd Hanoi’s Golf Club Championship was held by the Hanoi Golf Association at Long Bien Golf Course. With a best score of +25, G-L 9295 golf club had become the latest champion. This golf club had just been established last year with golfer Nguyen Chien Thang as the president. Vinaconex golf club had the same score, but ranked in the 2nd place due to a lower total Gross. The defending champion Times City scored +31 in this tournament and finished in the 3rd spot ● 지난7월 27, 28일 양일간 제2회Hanois Golf Club Championship이 하노이 골프 협회의 주최로 롱비엔 골프장에서 열렸다. On 4th August 2018, the Sea Links Club Open Championship 2018 was organized at Sea Links Golf & Country Club, Phan Thiet. This was the club’s largest annual golf tournament of the year, attracting 150 golfers from home and abroad. The players were divided into 4 divisions: A, B, Callaway and Women Division. Each artwork in Vu Hong Nguyen's "The Source of Life" collection reflects a different aspect of nature and space like cells – the foundation of any creature in this universe. By Yen Vu

Not many people are aware of a green and peaceful house hidden in a small corner of Hanoi, one that is a beautiful world of art by a young artist named Vu Hong Nguyen. Stunning lacquer paintings with fascinating colors, acrylic art works with meteorite glows and neatly arranged sculptures together creating an artistic and cozy setting. Nguyen shares about his inspiration: “For ten years, I kept thinking about the connection of all matter in the universe. Then, I began to express my feelings toward things that I had discovered or imagined through the extraordinary and dreamy flows on the surface of lacquer paintings. Imagining being on an airplane and flying free like a bird, above the rivers meandering along the fields, I feel like I’m looking at a map of my own life. “The Source of Life” collection, so immense yet so close, is like a breath vanishing into thin air, an underground river flowing quietly, or a root transporting sap and energy to its tree and so on.

What is your inspiration for "The Source of Life"?

I have composed this collection for about 10 years. The inspiration came from my curiosity of an invisible string or flow that connects everything in this universe, physical or intangible, solid or fragile, eternal or internal matters.

What is special in your lacquer paintings?

Looking at my paintings from a distance, you think they are rugged with so many layers. However, when stepping closer, you will be surprised that the surface of the painting is actually flat like a mirror. It takes about 3 to 4 months to finish the process of composing the layers (about 20 counts) and then lacquering to reveal the final mirror-like layout. This is a very special feature of lacquer art.

Who are your audiences?

Each artist has their own clients. It depends on the common and mutual connection in terms of beauty, experience, life, and perspective. Abstract art itself cannot be defined or decoded into something specific. I deliver my own point of view into my works, but do not expect the viewers to have the same feelings and experiences. Biologists can be demonstrated as the structures of molecular cells, doctors as the capillaries, passengers on the plane, and the river on the field, etc. There are no rules or disciplines; and I enjoy listening to the reference and explanations from the viewers. My clients are mostly European, though there are now more young successful Vietnamese who are interested in my works.

Do your audiences purchase your works for their own hobbies or for investment?

I don’t think my audiences come to my works for investment because they have other more profitable fields to focus on.

Do you paint by order?

No, I never receive orders. I develop my own concepts and introduce them to the public through exhibitions. My paintings are quite picky, I do not create in large quantity, and the prices of my paintings are relatively high compared to other contemporary artists’ in Vietnam. Thus, only those who really like my style and works would be willing to make a purchase.

In your opinion, how does art affect our society?

Art has a great impact on social life. When people can understand the aesthetic, they will know how to appreciate art, create more art works and preserve the exquisiteness, making society better and more civilized. There have been some positive signals. Leaders of corporations in Vietnam now show their interest in art by combining it with the products and services they provide to mutually benefit both business and artists. Thus, I expect a dramatic social change in the near future. In my opinion, instead of rising concrete “office boxes” everywhere, these corporations should think of building more museums, culture & art centers that showcase

valuable and stunning works. This act will amplify their prestige and reputation not only in Vietnam but also all over the world. For instance, the "Art in the Forest" project at Flamingo Dai Lai is recognized as a successful first step toward a more prospective future for the Vietnamese art industry.

Tell us more about the "Art in the Forest"?

“Art in the Forest” is a visual art project by the Flamingo Group starting in 2015. It aims to promote contemporary and sculpture arts by Vietnamese artists to the world, in a natural environment. This project encourages young artists to explore and approach Vietnamese visual arts with a new perspective along with high quality and creative ideas ●

ước vào ngôi nhà nhỏ yên bình, ngập tràn cỏ cây hoa lá ẩn mình trong một góc nhỏ của thủ đô là thế giới nghệ thuật tuyệt đẹp của họa sĩ Vũ Hồng Nguyên. Những bức tranh sơn mài theo trường phái trừu tượng với chiều sâu hút hồn, những bức acrylic mang ánh bạc của thiên thạch, những tác phẩm điêu khắc độc đáo được bày biện ngăn nắp trong xưởng vẽ tạo nên một khung cảnh gần gũi đầy chất nghệ thuật. Họa sĩ Vũ Hồng Nguyên chia sẻ: "Từ hơn mười năm trước, như một sự dẫn dắt tự nhiên, tôi đã suy nghĩ miên man, không dừng về những kết nối của vạn vật trong thế giới này. Và cũng ngần ấy thời gian, tôi bắt đầu thể hiện mạch cảm xúc về những gì tôi thấy, những gì chỉ thấp thoáng trong trí tưởng tượng cùng những điều vượt thoát khỏi cái nhìn tôi – những dòng chảy lạ thường hư thực vào không gian im ắng của Sơn mài. ✒Tranh sơn mài của anh có gì đặc biệt?

✒Anh có vẽ tranh theo đơn đặt hàng?

Nếu nhìn tác phẩm ở một khoảng cách, bạn sẽ thấy bức tranh dường như gồ ghề, nhiều tầng lớp, nhưng khi tiến lại gần bạn sẽ thấy một mặt phẳng, như gương vậy. Thời gian để tạo nên một mặt phẳng như vậy mất khoảng 3 – 4 tháng và cần tính toán các lớp chồng lên nhau, có khi đến 20 lớp rồi mài phẳng để lộ ra những lớp vẽ ban đầu. Đó là nét rất đặc biệt mà sơn mài tạo ra, khác biệt với các chất liệu khác.

Không, tôi không bao giờ vẽ theo đơn đặt hàng. Tôi sáng tác theo concept của mình và giới thiệu đến công chúng yêu nghệ thuật qua những triển lãm cá nhân và các ấn phẩm. Nếu trường phái trừu tượng ở nước ngoài được đón nhận từ rất lâu thì ở Việt Nam, tranh của tôi khá kén người xem, nhưng tôi thấy mình may mắn vì hiện giờ đã có nhiều người yêu mến chúng.

✒Đối tượng yêu thích tranh của anh là ai?

Ở Việt Nam, hoạ sĩ có tranh bán giá ổn định khoảng $100,000 là rất khó, vì thị trường này đã bị mất uy tín! Hơn nữa hệ thống đào tạo, môi trường hoạt động nghệ thuật rất khó để tạo ra nghệ sĩ đỉnh cao. Vào những năm 1990 – 2000, khi tôi vẫn là sinh viên, là thời kỳ phát triển của thị trường mỹ thuật Việt Nam với rất nhiều người nước ngoài đến để mua tranh. Hồi đó, một bức tranh bán được $2,000 - $3,000 là hoạ sĩ có thể mua được một mảnh đất nhỏ vùng ven đô. Thế nên, nhiều gallery tìm người bắt chước phong cách và hoạ sĩ thì vẽ lại những tác phẩm của chính mình, rồi đến đỉnh điểm là “in” tranh hàng loạt. Cơn lốc tài chính cuốn phăng đi tất cả nghệ thuật, hậu quả còn lại đến tận bây giờ là một thị trường bất minh – cả nghệ sĩ, gallery và các tổ chức quản lý nhà nước. Tuy nhiên, tích cực mà nói, đây là sự đào thải tự nhiên với những nghệ sĩ không nghiêm túc và các gallery không chuyên nghiệp.

Bản thân trừu tượng là cái gì đó không mang tính cụ thể. Tôi đưa ra quan điểm riêng trong tác phẩm, nhưng không áp đặt người xem. Nhà sinh vật học có thể liên tưởng đến những cấu trúc của tế bào phân tử, bác sĩ có thể thấy chúng giống những mao mạch, hành khách di chuyển trên máy bay có thể thấy giống con sông như vạt tơ chảy dài rồi tan biến,… tôi luôn thích thú khi lắng nghe những liên tưởng khác từ phía người xem. Người sưu tập tranh của tôi đa số là người châu Âu và gần đây đã có thêm nhiều người Việt trẻ.

✒Họ mua vì đam mê nghệ thuật hay đầu tư? Tôi nghĩ phần lớn họ yêu thích chứ không phải đầu tư vì họ có quá nhiều lĩnh vực khác để sinh lời hơn là đầu tư nghệ thuật.

✒Anh đánh giá thế nào về thị trường tranh Việt Nam hiện nay?

✒Vậy các gallery nên được tổ chức thế nào?

✒Nghệ thuật tác động như thế nào đến xã hội?

✒Anh có thể cho biết thêm về “Art in the Forest”?

Để khẳng định lại thị trường mỹ thuật Việt thì cần sự chung tay của rất nhiều bên, mà gallery chỉ là một thành phần. Cần có cơ chế rõ ràng về sở hữu trí tuệ và xử lý vi phạm bản quyền, cần có các tổ chức trung gian uy tín để phát triển và đảm bảo về mặt giá trị tác phẩm trên thị trường, cần có sự nghiêm túc về mặt chất lượng tác phẩm từ nghệ sĩ. Về phần gallery, các gallery chuyên nghiệp không phải là shop bán hàng ký gửi với sản phẩm hỗn độn, mà cần phải có định hướng phát triển nghệ sĩ rõ ràng và dài hơi. Điều này đòi hỏi những người chủ gallery có thẩm mỹ tốt, có hiểu biết, có trách nhiệm với sản phẩm mình cung cấp, có tương tác bình đẳng với họa sĩ, có nguồn tài chính để đầu tư cho không gian và các sự kiện thúc đẩy phát triển nghệ thuật. Định giá tranh phải trên giá trị tác phẩm chứ không phải tính bằng diện tích, bởi vì đây là nghệ thuật chứ không phải gạch men hay đá lát nền.

Đây là lĩnh vực có tác động rất lớn đến tinh thần và đời sống xã hội. Khi con người biết cảm nhận thẩm mỹ, họ sẽ tiếp tục sáng tạo ra cái đẹp, phục hồi tinh thần và phát triển bản thân, thu hẹp khoảng cách giữa các nền văn hoá,… từ đó sẽ giúp cho xã hội tốt lên và văn minh hơn. Hiện nay tôi đang thấy có tín hiệu tốt, một số ông chủ các tập đoàn lớn của Việt Nam quan tâm đến nghệ thuật, kết hợp nghệ thuật với những sản phẩm họ cung cấp cho xã hội, đây là sự cộng hưởng cùng có lợi cho cả hai bên doanh nghiệp và nghệ sĩ. Thay vì tiếp tục xây dựng những khu rừng bê tông san sát ở mọi nơi, họ nên nghĩ đến việc tạo ra những bảo tàng mỹ thuật, trung tâm văn hóa nghệ thuật nơi trưng bày những tác phẩm có giá trị cao. Khi đó, uy tín và vị thế của họ sẽ thay đổi không chỉ trong nước mà còn vượt xa mọi khoảng cách địa lý, lợi ích lâu dài của những công trình này vô cùng lớn. Ví dụ như dự án “Art in the Forest” tại khu nghỉ dưỡng Flamingo Đại Lải một dự án thật sự đạt nhiều kết quả khả quan cho nghệ thuật Việt Nam.

“Art in the Forest” là một dự án nghệ thuật thị giác của tập đoàn Flamingo, với mong muốn đưa nghệ thuật điêu khắc và hội hoạ đương đại của nghệ sĩ Việt Nam và thế giới đến gần hơn với công chúng, tôi đã được chọn làm cầu nối và giám tuyển cho dự án từ năm 2015 với mục đích mang nghệ thuật vào môi trường thiên nhiên. “Art in the Forest” khuyến khích, đồng hành cùng những nghệ sĩ trẻ thúc đẩy sự phát triển mỹ thuật tạo hình Việt Nam theo một cách đi mới, tự do ý tưởng và đầu tư thực về mặt chất lượng tác phẩm.

he making of Dong Ho painting dates back to the 11th century during the reign of the Ly Dynasty, while the craftsmen date back to the Le Dynasty. Dong Ho village in Bac Ninh province was one of the few places which had the tradition of making folk paintings, along with Hang Trong, Kim Hoang, and Sinh village. During that time, almost every Dong Ho villager participated in the painting manufacturing process, from carving the woodblocks, producing “Diep” papers, obtaining natural colors, to creating new themes and printing. Dong Ho paintings were originally in black-and-white, with colors added since the 15th century. As a special house decoration during the Lunar New Year, Dong Ho paintings had become a vivid symbol of folk culture

A most interesting part about this traditional practice is with its colors and paper, which are both handmade and derived from natural materials. The “Diep” paper is made from the bark of “Do” tree, mixing with seashell powder and glutinous rice to deliver a white, sparkling and supple layer capable of conserving colors. The colors are also made from available materials such as “black” from burned bamboo leaves; “red” from red gravel; and “yellow” from flowers. The most important stage is definitely the printing process, when the woodblock is applied with paint and pressed on a sheet of paper like a stamp. The finished picture is covered with a layer of rice paste (hồ nếp) to strengthen the durability of color preservation and dried under the sun afterwards. Most of the topics are about folk allegories, social commentaries, mythical & historical figures, signs of happiness, luck and prosperity. Some of the popular paintings include “Lon dan”, “Ga dan”, “Chan trau thoi sau”, “Hung dua”, “Danh ghen”, etc. Nowadays, there are only two households that continue to conserve this traditional handicraft. Traditionally filled with rice noodles, pork, shrimp and an assortment of mixed vegetables and herbs, Vietnamese summer rolls (also known as “fresh spring rolls”) have become one of the most highly regarded signature dishes of Vietnamese cuisine. The dish is served fresh and not fried like other spring rolls. The fresh ingredients and dipping sauce play an important role in delivering the tasty flavor. There is however, a difference in the style of sauce making between the Northern and Southern regions. The Northern style uses fish sauce as the main component while the Southern style uses peanut sauce. In this article, we will show you the Northern style. Summer rolls can be served either as a main dish or side dish, depending on the occasion. Because of its freshness and healthiness, this dish is most popular in the summertime. In some families, every ingredient is set on the table, allowing each person to make their own rolls. Therefore, this can be also recognized as a “family activity”, which strengthens the bond between each member.

Instruction Quickly immerse the rice paper in water and lay the sheet gently on a flat surface. Lay your lettuce on the soft spring roll wrapper, and then add herbs, cucumber, carrot, fresh noodles, egg, prawn and pork on top of each other. Try to fit everything within the 1/3 of the sheet. Fold the side edges of the rice paper inward. Then, starting from the food end, roll up until the end of the sheet. Try not to break the sheet. The wet rice paper will automatically stick to the other end. For starters, you can double up the layers to easily roll. Dip the roll into the prepared sauce and enjoy the dish!

n Japan, almost every street will lead you to a fish market, where you will find a most exciting auction of different types of fish, particularly the blue-fin tuna. Last year, a 212kg tuna was sold for 600,000 USD. Unlike other kinds of red meat, tuna is clean, fresh, vitamin rich, and doesn’t have a strong smell. To compliment the mixture of soy sauce and wasabi, you also need a glass of red wine to amplify the “fat” flavor, and mint to neutralize the spiciness of wasabi and gari. If you are a white-wine lover, let’s try Chardonnay! Logically, oiled fish will taste better with a less-sweet white wine like Sauvignon Blanc along with a slice of lime. You can also try a Pinot Blanc or Semillon from U.S. or France. The fresh taste along with low alcohol level will bring out a perfect combination with the freshness of tuna in sushi or sashimi. Semillon is quite similar to Chardonnay, but with a lower alcohol level, and also delivers a distinctive experience. You would need rich tasting wines like Pinot Noir or German Riesling for balance when having salmon sushi/sashimi. In Japan, salmon in sushi is not always 100% fresh as it has been through a light process of smoking or marinating in sugar and salt for a couple days to deliver an amalgamation of sweetness, saltiness and smokiness. That’s when the wine comes in and connects every single element to bring a spectacular flavor. Tobiko fish egg is not only a decorative element but also a delicious ingredient. To match with the saltiness of tobiko egg, you should choose a sweet wine to neutralize (the high sweetness level of a wine can eliminate the original fish flavors). Therefore, I normally pick the Pinot Noir from the U.S. or rose from South Africa or Chile. Another option is Riesling white wine from France, Germany or New Zealand. A medium level of fruit flavor without any sugar will bring you a fascinating experience. Some white wines with high level of acridness, acid and mineral smell are suitable when having sea urchin. Top options would be Savennieres from France, Pinot Gris from Germany/France and Albarino from Spain ●
