p World’s budget-destinations to travel to before you turn 30
On World Tourism Day (September 27), Cutacut decided to make a list of budget-friendly destinations you can travel to without drilling a hole through your pocket. Viet Nam has been ranked sixth among the seven budget-destinations to travel to before you turn 30, according to a list released by Cutacut, a digital content company. Sri Lanka tops the list, followed by Thailand, Turkey, Azerbaijan, Cambodia, Viet Nam, Indonesia. Earlier, Viet Nam had been ranked 13th among the 20 best places to visit in October, according to a list released by Condé Nast Traveller, a UK travel magazine. Viet Nam welcomed some 11.616 million foreign visitors in the first nine months of 2018, a 22.9% increase from the same period last year, the General Statistics Office (GSO) has said in its monthly report ●
Viet Nam International Travel Mart
The 2019 Viet Nam International Travel Mart (VITM) themed “Green Tourism” will take place at the Hanoi Cultural Friendship Palace between March 27 – 30 with a particular focus on the development of ecotourism, environmental protection and responses to climate change. According to the Viet Nam Tourism Association (VTA), exhibitors will showcase their products and launch activities regarding environmental protection, biodiversity, combating the killing of wild animals and climate change responses. In addition to this, current talking points within the tourism business community are the opportunities and challenges during the Fourth Industrial Revolution, with many companies seeking to share information and experiences at the fair. VTA Vice President Vu The Binh, head of the organizing board of VITM 2019, said the event is expected to draw up to 502 stalls with a total of 720 exhibitors coming from 25 countries and territories from around the globe. 85,000 visitors are also expected to contribute up to VND350 billion in sales. Furthermore, as many as 32,000 tours and tourism related products at reasonable prices and 20,000 discounted air tickets will also be offered at the event ●
The fifth International Puppetry Festival held in Ha Noi from October 8-15 saw the participation of troupes from Cambodia, Laos, the Philippines, Thailand, Wallonia-Brussels of Belgium, France, and Brazil. Four Vietnamese art units joining the event are the Thang Long Puppetry Theatre, the Viet Nam Puppetry Theatre, the Ho Chi Minh City puppetry art troupe, and the Hai Phong puppetry art troupe. The types of puppet shows performed in the festival include water puppet, shadow puppet, black puppet, hand puppet, and mask puppet. The organising board said the gold and silver prizes will be presented to the best shows, while artists and troupes with unique creativity will receive sub-awards. The 45-minute show is a combination of different kinds of puppetry such as water puppetry, and rod and string puppetry. Meritorious artist Nguyen Phuong Nhi said through characters in the fairy world such as the mermaid, princess, prince, witch, and animals familiar to children like puppies, crows and pythons, convey messages calling on people to join hands in combating climate change, protecting the environment and saving energy. The excellent shows will be picked for wide performance in the northern provinces of Vinh Phuc and Ninh Binh ●
Viet Nam to rank tour guides for the first time
The Viet Nam Tourism Association (VTA) will launch a programme to rank Vietnamese tour guides, with financial assistance from the European Union (EU), the association announced on October 4. This is the first time Viet Nam has implemented such a programme, which aims to encourage tour guides to improve their performance to better meet the needs of travelers. From early October to the end of this year, VTA’s Association of Vietnamese Tour Guides will conduct ranking activities in Ho Chi Minh City, Ha Noi and Quang Ninh as well as other localities such as Khanh Hoa and Lao Cai. The ranking will be based on three major criteria including capacity, knowledge and skills. It aims to create favourable conditions for travel firms to sign contracts and pay adequate wages to tour guides. It is expected to help enhance the quality of Vietnamese tourism, with tour guides to be classified into three levels from three-star to five-star. So far, Viet Nam has 23,055 certified tour guides, including 14,428 international, 8,412 domestic and 215 working at certain sites. However, only 5 percent of the total are working under contracts with travel firms and paid with salary and social insurance premiums by the companies, while the rest have not joined social insurance ●

p Muong Lo Tourism-Culture Week resumed on October 12-14
The Muong Lo Tourism-Culture Week and the Mu Cang Chai Terraced Field Festival took place in the northern mountainous province of Yen Bai on October 12-14. Many activities were held during the week, including art performances, exhibitions, and a Muong Lo cake festival, among others. Accordingly, the Miss Muong Lo contest was slated for October 12, while a carnival with the participation of 100 artists and an art performance took place the next day. Notably, a highlight of the events was the “Yen Bai - Heritage Journey” programme starting on the morning of October 13. Meanwhile, the Mu Cang Chai Terraced Field Festival also featured various activities, such as a contest of H’Mong panpipe performances, a goat fight, community tourism activities and a photo exhibition on terraced paddy fields by famous domestic photographers. Mu Cang Chai has 500 hectares of rice terraces in La Pan Tan, Che Cu Nha and De Xu Phinh communes, cultivated by the H'mong people for centuries. The local terraces are among the 2,500 hectares recognised as national heritage sites in 2007 by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism ●

Mapped, a Canadian travel news site, on digital publication Daily Hive, compliments the two places for retaining their “authentic character.” It says Hong Kong will offer a more modern experience while Viet Nam will provide a more true and authentic taste of the Asian lifestyle. Viet Nam and Hong Kong are both safe destinations and full of friendly and welcoming locals, which make travelers “not want to leave.” To get a true taste of Vietnamese cuisine, Mapped says food lovers and anyone who is not afraid to give everything a try should visit Dong Xuan Market in Ha Noi. The market offers a variety of food from a bowl of pho (a kind of rice noodle served with beef or chicken slices) to something like snail soup. Visitors are also advised to take a cruise through Ha Long Bay, where globetrotters can see jaw-dropping limestone sceneries and take fairytale-like pictures of the Gulf of Tonkin. The country is also an action-packed destination where visitors can trek around Sapa exploring the vast golden rice fields, spend time beach bumming or trying a scooter experience ●

Ox racing festival in An Giang kicks off
The annual Bay Nui (Seven Mountains) Ox Racing Festival kicked off on October 8 in Tinh Bien district, of the Mekong Delta province of An Giang, attracting thousands of people. This year, 64 pairs of oxen from An Giang and neighbouring provinces competed in the event. A pair of oxen owned by farmer Nguyen Thanh Tai from Chau Lang commune of Tri Ton district won first prize, while the pair of oxen owned by farmer Nguyen Van Cuoc from Nui Voi commune in Tinh Bien district and farmer Chau Ranh Ra from Van Giao commune in Tinh Bien district finished second and third respectively. The festival is part of the Sene Dolta, one of the most important annual festivals of the Khmer community in the southwest region, along with Chol Chnam Thmay (New Year) and Ooc Oom Bok, a festival honouring the moon for a good harvest. The oxen racing festival commemorates the merits of the Khmer’s ancestors, with wishes for happiness and peace for their souls. The event is held from the 30th day of the eighth lunar month until the second day of the ninth lunar month each year, falling on October 8-10 this year ●
Bookings and travel trends in Singapore place the central city of Da Nang in the top 10 destinations for Singaporeans. This is shown by data compiled by Kayak, a Singapore-based travel booking site that allows people to look for cheap flights and hotels for holidays. The site named Da Nang among top 10 places of choice for Singaporean tourists in 2018, based on booking increases and travel trends in the first eight months of this year. Da Nang, home to Asia’s most beautiful My Khe Beach and a neighbor to the popular ancient town of Hoi An, was third on the list, followed by Indonesia’s Yogyakarta, Luzon Islands in the Philippines and Malaysia’s Kuching. The Indonesian city of Bandung, surrounded by the lush green Parahyangan mountains, topped the list. Along with China and the Republic of Korea (RoK), Singaporeans have been among the biggest groups of visitors to Da Nang in recent years. Vietnam currently provides a reciprocal 30-day visa exemption for citizens of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN), including Singapore ●

p Vietjet Air to launch Da NangBangkok flight
Budget airline Vietjet Air announced on October 5 that it will launch the first daily flight connecting Viet Nam’s central city of Da Nang with Thailand’s Bangkok capital from October 15. From Suvarnabhumi Airport in Bangkok, passengers can travel onwards to Thailand’s popular destinations such as Chiang Mai, Chiang Rai, Phuket, and Krabi. Tickets are available on the website www.vietjetair. com or www.facebook.com/vietjetvietnam. Payments can be made by credit or debit cards that are registered with Internet banking services. With 60 A320 and A321 aircrafts, Vietjet runs over 385 flights per day. It has carried more than 60 million passengers to destinations across Viet Nam, China, Japan, Hong Kong, Singapore, the Republic of Korea, Taiwan, Thailand, Myanmar, Malaysia, and Cambodia. The carrier is considering a plan to expand routes in the Asia-Pacific and has signed contracts to buy new-generation aircraft with prestigious global plane manufacturers ●
p HHa Noi to launch new double-decker bus tour
Vietnamtourism - Ha Noi Joint Stock Company launched a new double-decker bus tour on October 10. The city’s second bus route will operate from 9am to 5:30pm daily, on 30-minute intervals. Along the 14.8km route from Dien Hong Park on Ngo Quyen street, there will be 10 stops for tourists to hop-on and hop-off. The company is yet to announce ticket prices but confirmed that prices would not be subsidised to ensure the company makes a profit. On May 30, Ha Noi launched its first double-decker city tour, with hop-on and hop-off at 13 stops, running through 25 streets and taking tourists to 30 destinations in the city. The buses run every 30 minutes from 9am to 5pm, and are equipped with an automatic multi-lingual system in Vietnamese, English, Chinese, Japanese and Korean. The first city tour bus service provided by the Ha Noi Transport & Services Corporation offers four-hour tours starting from 300,000 VND (13.3 USD), 450,000 VND (20 USD) for 24 hours and 650,000 VND (28.8 USD) for 48 hours. According to the municipal Department of Tourism, the capital city welcomed an estimated nearly 20 million tourist arrivals in the first nine months of this year, or a year-on-year rise of 9.2 percent ●

Thành phố Bergen duyên dáng nằm bên bờ vịnh biển Sognefjord – vịnh biển dài nhất của Na-uy, ăn sâu vào đất liền đến 205km, với lưng tựa núi và mặt hướng biển về phía Tây Nam. Đây là thành phố lớn thứ hai và rất nhộn nhịp của Na-uy. Thời gian này, Na-uy đã khoác lên mình chiếc áo vàng lộng lẫy của mùa thu. Như ai đó đã nói: hạnh phúc không phải ở đích đến mà là ở con đường mình đi, du khách có thể di chuyển đến Bergen bằng máy bay, xe lửa hoặc xe bus nhưng thú vị hơn hết là thuê xe tự lái để có thể ngắm nhìn trọn vẹn cung đường đẹp như mơ dài 465km. Vượt qua các dãy núi, hết lên đèo rồi lại xuống thung lũng, men theo sông suối, ao hồ và chạy dọc theo các thảm cỏ xanh mướt với những đàn cừu nhởn nhơ gặm cỏ, du khách không thể đếm hết bao nhiêu là thác nước như những dải lụa trắng muốt chảy xuống từ đỉnh núi tuyết tan. Bên cạnh đó, lái xe xuyên qua 59 cái hầm ngắn dài, từ vài chục mét cho đến hầm xuyên biển 25km dài nhất Na-uy là một trải nghiệm vô cùng thú vị.

Những dãy nhà trên đồi từ xa nhìn như một đàn bướm trắng
Bergen được mệnh danh là thành phố mưa. Những cơn mưa chợt đến chợt đi, lúc thì lất phất lúc lại ào ạt tạo nên nét đặc trưng của thành phố biển lãng mạn với tiếng chuông nhà thờ trên đồi vang vọng cả thành phố. Được hình thành khoảng 1000 năm trước, nơi đây có nhiều liên hệ với thời kỳ Viking và từng là hải cảng quan trọng trong việc trao đổi buôn bán giữa các nước Bắc Âu. Ngày nay, Bergen là một thành phố năng động với hơn 10% dân số là sinh viên và có hàng triệu du khách mỗi năm. Đặc biệt, Bergen còn ghi dấu trên bản đồ âm nhạc thế giới bởi hai điều: là nơi dàn nhạc lâu đời nhất châu Âu Bergen Philharmonic Orchestra thành lập (năm 1765) và là quê hương của Edvard Grieg - nhà soạn nhạc vĩ đại nhất Na-uy. Nhà ông vẫn còn đó, trở thành bảo tàng được du khách yêu thích ghé thăm. Họ đến để nhớ về ông, bồi hồi với Khúc Hát Nàng Solveig (Chanson de Solveig) da diết, diễn tả nỗi nhớ khôn nguôi của người thiếu phụ chờ chồng đi biển biệt tăm chưa về.

After going into the cave by boat, explorers can wander 300m into the cave on foot before returning back by boat.
Dong Hoi – Dark Cave – Nuoc Mooc Stream Spend a full day exploring Dark Cave and Nuoc Mooc Stream. To get Dark Cave, Kayaking on the river, walking through the dark with only the light on your mining helmet, having a mud fight in the mud baths deep in the cave and then washing clean with a swim in the lake inside the cave. Nuoc Mooc Stream is a paradise on Earth within the jungle, resembling a glittering green silk scarf. Cat Tien protects one of the largest areas of lowland tropical rainforests remaining in Vietnam. On arrival take a light afternoon trek through the forest, returning to the lodge late in the afternoon. After dinner, take a night drive into the park using a spotlight to view nocturnal wildlife.
Cat Tien National Park Depart early morning for an 8 km drive then trek to crocodile lake where there are plenty of opportunities to see many varieties of bird life and perhaps even the Siamese crocodile. These crocodiles are critically endangered, and this is one of the last places in the world where they can be seen in the wild. Free leisure time in the afternoon. Cat Tien National Park - Ho Chi Minh City After a leisurely breakfast, visit the Dao Tien Endangered Primate Species Centre or the Bear Rehabilitation Centre. The aim of the Centre is to rescue and rehabilitate endangered bears and primates. It is hoped that after a time in the holding enclose that some of the endemic bears or primates can be released back into the forest. Return to the lodge before taking the 4-hour drive back to Ho Chi Minh City ●

On Aug 14th 2018 I was given special access to check out what everyone in Vietnam golf is talking about. A round of golf at the new amazing Greg Norman design, KN Golf Links Cam Ranh which is set to open later this year. Why is it that new golf courses keep popping up in Vietnam with such high quality? I believe it is to do with land on offer and the professionalism of the designers and people involved, in this case former World number 1 golfer Greg Norman and the team at the KN golf. KN golf links is set on huge amount of land stretching 800 hectares which will soon include many hotels and villas, a theme park, a marina and many entertainment areas. In regards to the course design the first thing you will notice is the quality of the driving range. Often left in the background a good range can reflect on what’s to come and this range is no exception. Wide open spaces, plenty of pin locations and sensational views with large boulder rocks in the background. 42 Leisure & Travel Nov - Dec.2018

What better way to start off your round! A short cart ride away is the first hole measuring 596 yards (545m) off the shark tees and straight away you get a taste of the beautiful sea views. (Course also has Gold, Blue, White and Red tees just to note) On your right is the East Sea with views of small islands in the distance and Nha Trang mountains further left over the ocean. The hole itself is a beauty with rolling dune fairways playing first downhill then back up to a well perched green. You will then enter a stretch of holes where the views turn from sea view to open field spaces and mountains. Another thing you’ll notice is an added challenge with water coming into play from holes 4 to 7. Nov - Dec.2018 Leisure & Travel 43

KN Golf Links Cam Ranh Add: Cam Hai Dong, Cam Ranh, Khanh Hoa Province 27 holes par 72/36 (7165/3501 yards) Designer: Greg Norman
You will then play more great holes as the course feeds it way to the sea before reaching a finishing stretch that is as good as any. Hole 15 is a 386 yard (353m) downhill par 4 where you again hit to the sea and hopefully right of a remarkable sand bunkering design which stretches from tee to green. The 16th par 3, 193 yard (176m) plays sideways along the coastline at the lowest point of the course and is another beauty shown in the pic below. The 570 yard (521m) 17th plays back up the hill towards a picturesque natural boulder formation in the distance.
How can a course with quality turf conditions, elite designing and gorgeous views get any better than this? In my opinion it can’t, It can only be matched Steven Lo Ricco

Hole 4 is a 189 yard (173m) ripper with water all along the left to semi island green as pictured below. I took on this hole with 30k winds and maybe lucky the wind came from the left rather from the predominant right side.
Finally you reach the finishing hole, a 385 yard (347m) dog leg right hole with the clubhouse on the left and again sea views on the right.
I managed to make par but this course would soon begin to bite me as I started to take on some holes back into the wind.
KN golf links course is simply a must play and its location is perfect right next to newly upgraded Cam Ranh Airport. It is due to open around the start of November this year and I suggest you email KN golf on the email above to make a booking.
Once you pass this beautiful unique stretch of holes including the uphill dog leg par 4, 8th, you will find yourself at holes that feature sea views all the way to the 18th green.
I’d like to thank General Manager Simon Mees for giving me access to view this masterpiece as well as to KN group and Greg Norman for designing such a wonderful golf course for Vietnam.
The 10th is a hole that may cause slow play due to the panoramic sea views you get when you reach the tee. You will want to stare and admire for as long as you can!

efore meeting with Dinh Quan, one of the most talented senior lacquer artists of Vietnamese art, we had wanted to contemplate and to be drawn into his paintings of sexy, gentle and romantic Vietnamese women, which have brought him worldwide fame. It was surprising that he brought us into a totally different, abstract and fascinating world with "The Night Symphony" and "The Season Transfer” causing viewers to be hypnotized, summoning a mysterious inner world. Dinh Quan said that he has long pursued these types of
paintings, and they will be his lifelong choice. “To me, art is as a faith to win the heart. In recent works I imitate the life of present society as a large stage, on a deep and clear lacquer background like a night mirror. The viewers will interact with themselves when looking at that mirror. The curved, straight, zigzagging, and fractured drawing lines create signs which are symbolic for human behaviors in daily life, and color blocks like floating clouds create an illusion for viewers to have their own thinking about what they should do to become better in the society in which they live. What influences your art style the most? Nothing but life and nature. I find inspiration from things around me. Sometimes it does not need to be specific things; they can be some kind of symbolic images or signals.
How are your lacquer paintings different from those of other artists? When I graduated and entered the path of painting, I noticed that my predecessors used to set standards for their lacquer paintings to be flat, smooth, and glossy. However I found if we have to follow steps, standards or principles when doing art, it will constrain our emotion. Without emotion, artists cannot make good paintings. So as long as the paintings can show well the artistic values inside, it does not matter whether they are flat, smooth, and glossy or not. And those are my types of paintings. Lacquer, oil, or silk are just the language of material, what makes a painting valuable is the artistry and the artist’s thought and the sentiment inside their paintings. Your recent artworks show a very high abstraction. Why did you decide to pursue this type of painting? We often think that abstract paintings are hard to understand. But actually this “Abstract” is exactly the “Reality” in the mind of both the artist and the viewers. The artist can draw what they like and feel, but it is viewers, not the artist, who will complete the painting. I want to be an artist who evokes as much “Reality”as possible for viewers when they look at my paintings.

What is the artistic value in your recent artworks? Some of my recent artworks named “The Night Symphony” show most clearly my current artistic ideals. To make these paintings I used a black patch of lacquerware because it is the darkest tone of the black color. And it makes the paintings’ background look like a mirror of night. In these mysterious backgrounds there are clouds of color blocks blended into scrawling, zigzagging, and fractured drawing lines dancing together that create the illusion for viewers. In the illusion, viewers will look at themselves, feel themselves, and connect to themselves so that they can see most clearly their relationships and behaviors among people in the real life. With this type of lacquer paintings the viewers must see alone. You cannot feel anything if seeing them with other people. Does family life affect an artist's feelings? Yes it surely affects the artist very much. Because the art is the mirror of life. I thank the life for giving me both glory and loneliness, as well as many storms. I find it fortunate for an artist to be given a "game" called "creativity," to sing out of his sadness, to lull his heart with his paintings. Do you care about young artists and what can you do to help them focus their career? I know some young Vietnamese artists and find that they are really devoted and burn themselves for the sake of art. However, for career orientation, I can not help. No one can give them recommendations or suggestions. When they start their career in art until their
death, they are equal to each other and have their own ego. The difference of ego will create the uniqueness and distinctiveness of each artist’s work. What elements contribute to your current success? You can not be successful if you do not work hard, have passion, and remain devoted to your work. A talented artist without passion cannot be anything. Have you ever thought about stopping your art career? Never. Even if there is an afterlife, I still want to be an artist. Because the most successful thing in my life is that I have a great passion for painting. As a person who started playing golf, what is the difference between an artist playing golf and a normal golfer? Golf is a special sport, requiring players to conquer themselves. As an artist, even when playing golf, I care about nothing but aesthetics �� a score or number of strokes is not important to me. I want to have a beautiful swing no matter how many times I have to drive or how many balls are lost. There really is a similarity between art and golf. That is the conquest of the beauty! ●

베트남 미술계에서 가장 재능 있는 중년 락커 미술가인 Dinh Quan 과 만나기 전, 그가 어찌하여 매혹적인 베트남 여성의 그림을 그리게 되었는지 그 계기에 대해 생각해 보았다. 그러나 그는, 이번에는 지금까지와는 완전히 다른 추상적이고도 신비로운 “The Night Symphony (밤 교향곡)”, "The Season Transfer(계절 이동)”으로 우리를 데리고 와 최면을 걸어버렸다. Dinh Quan 은 이런 추상적 형식의 그림들을 추구해왔고, 그것은 그의 오랜 지향점이 될 것이라고 말했다. “나에게 예술은 마음을 얻는 신념이다. 최근 작품에서는 현 시대의 사회를 넓은 시각으로 바라 보았고, 그것을 마치 밤의 거울처럼 깊고 청명하게 락커 배경에 담아냈다. 그리하여 관객들은 그 거울을 보는 순간 자기자신과 마주하게 된다. 굴곡지고 곧기도 하며 지그재그로 뻗어 가다가 끊겨 버리기도 하는 선들은 인간의 일상을 표현했으며, 떠다니는 구름과 같은 색깔 뭉치들은 우리들이 이 사회에서 더 나은 존재가 되기 위해서 무엇을 해야 되는 지에 대한 영감을 떠올리게 한다. 나 역시 이러한 아이디어를 통해 미술 활동을 지속하는 것과 다름없다●

Tôi thấy may mắn cho người nghệ sĩ được trời ban cho một "trò chơi" gọi là "sáng tạo"
cảm hóa. Những tác phẩm gần đây tôi mô phỏng cuộc sống của xã hội hiện tại như một sân khấu lớn, trên nền tranh sơn mài sâu thẳm trong veo như mặt gương đêm. Chất liệu sơn mài có khả năng làm được việc này. Công chúng xem tranh được tương tác và soi thấy hình ảnh của mình ở trong đó, và tự ám thị cùng những nét cong, thẳng, ngoằn ngoèo, hay gẫy khúc, tạo nên những tín hiệu, mang tính biểu trưng cho đời sống ứng xử của con người thường ngày. Những mảng màu như những đám mây ngũ sắc trôi nổi gây ảo giác, cho người xem có những liên tưởng của riêng mình sẽ làm gì để tốt đẹp hơn trong xã hội chúng ta đang sống. Tôi đã và đang thực hiện các tác phẩm bằng ý tưởng đó.”
➻ Tranh sơn mài của anh có gì khác biệt so với những họa sĩ khác? hi mới ra trường và bước vào con đường hội họa, tôi nhận thấy tiêu chuẩn về sơn mài của các bậc tiền bối thường là phải phẳng, nhẵn, và bóng. Nhưng bản thân tôi thấy làm nghệ thuật mà phải tuân thủ theo các bước, theo những tiêu chuẩn và nguyên tắc như vậy sẽ làm kìm chế cảm xúc của người sáng tác. Mà hội họa thì phải là cả 1 sự tuôn trào, sự trực diện. Bởi vậy tôi làm ra một thứ không phẳng, không nhẵn, và cũng không bóng, nhưng khi cần thì vẫn có thể phẳng, nhẵn, và bóng được. Những

cái đó chỉ là hình thức bên ngoài, còn đạt được yếu tố nghệ thuật bên trong mới là điều quan trọng! Sơn mài hay sơn dầu hay lụa chỉ là ngôn ngữ của chất liệu, cái quan trọng vẫn là giá trị nghệ thuật, là tư tưởng, và tình cảm gửi gắm vào trong những bức tranh, ru người xem vào một cõi nào mà người họa sĩ muốn, và thậm chí là ru người xem đến cái cõi nào mà bản thân họ muốn! ➻ Những tác phẩm gần đây của anh mang tính trừu tượng rất cao. Tại sao anh lựa chọn theo đuổi dòng tranh này? Với một bức tranh trừu tượng chúng ta thường nói là không thể hiểu nổi! Nhưng thực ra không cần phải hiểu bởi tính
“trừu tượng” của hội họa lại chính là “hiện thực” trong tâm tưởng của người họa sĩ, và cũng là “hiện thực” trong tâm tưởng của cả người xem tranh. Người họa sĩ có thể vẽ những điều mà họ thích, vẽ những thứ trong tiềm thức của họ, nhưng người hoàn thiện bức tranh ấy không phải người họa sĩ mà lại chính là người xem, người thưởng thức tranh! Hội họa cũng giống như ngôn ngữ của văn chương - một bức họa hay là ý tại ngôn ngoại. Tức là lời có thể rất nhạt, nhưng ý thì rất đậm. Và thể hiện nó tốt đến đâu là thuộc về tài năng của người họa sĩ. Tôi muốn làm một họa sĩ có thể gợi mở được nhiều “hiện thực” nhất thông qua những nét vẽ “trừu tượng” của mình!.
➻ Những yếu tố hiện thực nào ảnh hưởng đến phong cách nghệ thuật của anh nhiều nhất? Không có gì ngoài đời sống và thiên nhiên. Tôi tìm cảm hứng từ những thứ xung quanh mình, đôi khi đó không cần phải là những hình ảnh cụ thể mà có thể là những hình ảnh mang tính biểu trưng hay tín hiệu.

➻ Yếu tố nghệ thuật trong những tác phẩm gần đây của anh là gì? Một trong những tác phẩm sơn mài gần đây tôi vẽ là “Bản giao hưởng đêm”. Để vẽ bức tranh này, tôi tận dụng mảng đen của vóc sơn mài bởi đó là một màu đen vô cùng huyền ảo, không có thứ gì đen hơn là sơn then của sơn mài cả! Bởi vậy cái nền đen của bức tranh trông giống như một tấm gương đêm. Trên nền đen huyền ảo đó là những mảng màu như những đám mây như ngũ sắc, cùng những nét vẽ ngoằn ngoèo, đứt gẫy nhảy múa trước mặt tạo cho người xem những ảo giác. Và trong ảo giác đó họ sẽ tự soi lại mình, tự cảm nhận và tự kết nối với chính bản thân mình. Những kết nối đó chính là tất cả những ứng xử, những mối quan hệ trong xã hội. Tốt, xấu, hay, dở, cao thượng, hay tiểu nhân,..đều nhìn thấy được rõ nhất trong tấm gương đêm của bức tranh đó. Đối với loại tranh này, người xem tranh phải xem một mình, xem đông người sẽ không thể cảm nhận được bởi nó đưa ta vào một cõi rất u uẩn, giống một góc “tự kỷ” của con người vậy!
➻ Những đối tượng sưu tầm tranh của anh là những ai? Anh ấn tượng với khách hàng nào nhất? Người sưu tầm tranh của tôi có rất nhiều đối tượng, nước ngoài có, trong nước có. Trước đây thì chủ yếu là người nước ngoài, nhưng mấy năm gần đây người Việt Nam mua tranh của tôi nhiều hơn, nhiều người trong số họ là tầng lớp trí thức mới. Tôi nhớ nhất và ấn tượng nhất với một cậu nhà báo nghèo. Cậu ấy yêu thích tranh của tôi nhưng không dư dả nên đã ngỏ ý….mua trả góp bằng số tiền lương hàng tháng! Đó là một nhà sưu tầm tranh mà tôi cho là “xịn” nhất vì họ đã hy sinh thực sự cho niềm đam mê của mình.
➻ Đời sống gia đình có tác động đến cảm xúc của người họa sĩ? Vô cùng ảnh hưởng. Nghệ thuật là tấm
➻ Anh có quan tâm đến giới họa sĩ trẻ và có thể giúp họ định hướng nghề không? Bản thân tôi có quen biết với một số họa sĩ trẻ của Việt Nam và nhận thấy họ là những người thực sự cháy hết mình vì nghệ thuật. Tuy nhiên để định hướng nghề nghiệp thì tôi không thể giúp gì được. Bởi người họa sĩ từ khi bắt đầu cầm bút vẽ cho đến khi nhắm mắt xuôi tay, thì họ công bằng như nhau, sòng phẳng như nhau, bình đẳng như nhau. Không ai khuyên ai được điều gì cả. Bởi mỗi người nghệ sĩ là
một cái tôi riêng, và đó là cái tôi bản lĩnh. Sự khác biệt sẽ tạo nên những tác phẩm mang chất riêng của mỗi người nghệ sĩ. ➻ Những yếu tố nào giúp anh thành công hôm nay? Có một câu nói rằng "Thiên tài chỉ có 5% là cảm hứng, còn lại là mồ hôi". Không có gì tự dưng thành nếu mình không chăm chỉ, không đam mê, không cháy hết mình. Tài năng mà không có đam mê không làm được gì. Có đam mê sẽ tạo nên rất nhiều thứ. Sự cực đoan cũng tạo nên nhiều thứ. Và cực đoan tạo nên sự khác biệt. Người ta thường hay nói là cùng dắt tay nhau tiến lên phía trước, nhưng riêng trong nghệ thuật thì cần tôn trọng sự khác biệt, và tính cá nhân rất quan trọng. ➻ Đã bao giờ anh nghĩ đến việc sẽ “gác bút” bỏ nghề chưa? Chưa bao giờ. Kể cả nếu có kiếp sau tôi vẫn muốn mình là một họa sĩ. Bởi cái điều thành công nhất trong cuộc đời tôi là có niềm đam mê lớn đối với nghề này. ➻ Là một người cũng bắt đầu chơi golf, anh thấy một họa sỹ chơi golf thì có gì khác so với một người bình thường? Golf là một môn thể thao đặc biệt, đòi hỏi người chơi phải tự chinh phục mình. Có lẽ vì là một người làm nghệ thuật nên kể cả chơi golf tôi cũng chỉ quan tâm đến thẩm mỹ, không quan trọng thành tích, số gậy. Tôi muốn có những cú phát bóng thật đẹp, thật bay bổng, dù phải luyện tập swing bao nhiêu lần hay mất bao nhiêu bóng! Giữa hội họa và golf cũng có điểm tương đồng với nhau. Meanwhile, a separate whisky lounge, complete with velvet wingback chairs and a roaring fireplace, lies tucked behind a charcoal curtain. On the second floor, guests are
encouraged to feast in the privacy of an intimate dining area, while the open�plan design offers a stunning ambience and a clear view of the elegant bar below. Aurélien Houguet, Angelina’s new Head Chef, who earned his chef stripes at many distinguished establishments including the five�star Ashford Castle in Ireland, has created a new menu for the kitchen, which will serve lunch and dinner as well as a selection of bar menu items after 10pm.
Highlights from the seasonal menu include a playful twist on classic European and New World dishes, such as lobster rolls with caviar, wagyu tomahawk, Arctic snow fish, king crab, roast Welsh lamb pie, and wagyu beef burgers topped with cheddar cheese and black truffle. The play "MY" is divided into 3 segments "MỴ" introduces local and international audiences to the cultural identity of the Mông, one of 54 ethnic groups with unique cultural and artistic features within Vietnam. The viewers are enlightened through the language of music, dance art, techniques, circus art, installation art, and with performances by talented artists of North Vietnamese folk dance music. "MỴ" draws paintings with emotive colors, praising the good qualities, vitality and passionate aspirations of the people in the northwestern region of Vietnam. From sufferings endured by the two characters MỴ and A Phủ, with long dark nights under the tyranny of feudal lords, reveals the theological thoughts killing all dreams, aspirations, crippling consciousness and emotions. These intense lives spread the living fire for each other and rise from the darkness of the suffering and humiliation to touch the light of dignity and freedom - to be alive, to be loved, and to be happy in their homeland.

Everyday Ms. Nguyen Thuy Linh would look at the handembroidered products at the shop and hear her mother’s words: “Let’s continue to keep this work, darling”.

n 1969, Mrs. Bach Thi Ngai, Ms. Linh's grandmother first opened the embroidery shop "Tan My" at 109 Hang Gai Street. Although it was a small shop and located in an alley, it was also the first shop selling hand embroidery in Hanoi. Like all of Hanoi’s original girls, Mrs. Ngai had been taught very strictly by her family to work diligently, be elegant, use proper speech, have good morals (cong – dung – ngon – hanh) and to be an expert in all housework, especially in sewing and embroidery. According to Vietnamese wedding traditions, the bride and groom used to use one pair of pillows with the first two letters of their names embroidered on them. Mrs. Ngai and her only daughter, among her seven children, would embroider love birds on the pillowcases to use in the couple’s bedrooms. Ms. Do Thanh Huong had been taught by her mother since she was very young and grew up very skilled in her handiwork. Mrs. Ngai had always taught her daughter that in business, the most important thing is to be trustworthy, and to maintain the quality of the products. She always demanded that the quality of each product had to be the best and the most beautiful. If not satisfied, she was ready to do it again until it reached perfection.

Later, as the economy grew and demand for hand embroidery increased, Mrs. Ngai expanded into other hand embroidery products such as blankets, sheets, pillowcases, tablecloths, sleepwear, and all kinds of bags. She then visited the village of embroidery - Thuong Tin to look for skilled embroiderers to work with her on producing high standard hand embroidery products. Gradually, nearly 500 people from the village joined with her, and still work with her family now and into the future. They even called her, affectionately, "the woman who revived embroidery". Ms. Huong helped her mother at the age of 12 to make hand embroidery products. She grew up with embroidery and has always loved it. Hand embroidery is an art of formalization – the artist must persevere and meticulously complete each needle work, requiring the artist to have great imagination, a delicate sense and view of life to put their full mind and soul into their work to crown the beauty and vitality of life through each product. That is why some embroidered pictures can be mistaken with a real photo from the first moment they catch a person’s eye. It can be said that each embroiderer is an artist and each embroidery

Theo truyền thống cưới hỏi của người Việt Nam, cô dâu và chú rể luôn dùng gối thêu chữ lồng hai chữ cái đầu tiên trong tên của họ. Vì vậy, bà Ngải cùng cô Đỗ Thanh Hương, con gái duy nhất trong 7 người con của mình đã nhận thêu những đôi gối đôi chim bồ câu và chữ lồng cho các căp uyên ương dùng trong phòng ngủ của họ.

Bà Ngải luôn dạy con gái rằng trong kinh doanh điều quan trọng nhất chính là chữ Tín, và chữ Tín đối với bà chính là chất lượng sản phẩm. Bà luôn đòi hỏi chất lượng cho mỗi sản phẩm luôn phải là tốt nhất và đẹp nhất, nếu chưa ưng ý, bà sẵn sàng làm đi làm lại cho đến bao giờ thật sự hài lòng. Sau này, khi nền kinh tế phát triển và nhu cầu dùng đồ thêu tay ngày càng nhiều hơn, bà Ngải đã mở rộng thêm các sản phẩm khác như chăn, ga, gối, khăn trải bàn, quần áo ngủ, các loại túi…và về làng thêu Thường Tín tìm những người thợ thêu giỏi để họ cùng bà sản xuất các sản phẩm thêu tay. Dần dần, cả làng thêu gần 500 người đã, đang và sẽ tiếp tục làm việc cùng gia đình bà. Bà được mọi người trìu mến gọi bằng cái tên “người phụ nữ làm sống lại ngành thêu”!
Although Mrs. Ngai passed away almost 2 years ago, third generation Ms. Nguyen Thuy Linh always feels like she is still living next to her, as every embroidery product in the shop reminds her of grandmother. From the time she was born, her grandmother would embroider flowers on the clothes she wore. Embroidery has been running through her veins and has become her whole life. Following the family tradition, she also has passion for embroidery. Like her grandmother and mother, that love has helped her overcome all the hardships in developing Tan My as a beloved and trustworthy brand. She hopes to make Tan My Design a cultural and art center where lovers of "made in Vietnam “products can come and cherish the artworks, and where Vietnamese talented artists and designers can discuss and exchange their passion and skills. Bé Vũ Minh Anh, cô con gái 7 tuổi của chị Linh cũng rất hứng thú đối với các sản phẩm thêu. It was an unforgettable afternoon when Leisure & Travel was lucky to have an opportunity to sit down with Nguyen Thanh Van - the first Vietnamese woman to be a member of the French Academy of Culinary Arts. We speak with her to understand more about her passion for maintaining and delivering the quintessence of Vietnamese cuisine to the world. Cooking is not a private endeavor, rather it is an open activity for anyone who has a special passion for food. Aside from successful male chefs in the country, there are also good female chefs who regularly contribute toward the culinary splendor of Vietnamese cuisine. In particular, Nguyen Thanh Van is a very well�known name. Rising out from the "unbelievers" with a passion and love for food, Mrs. Van decided to go into the kitchen. She rose to become Deputy Chef at the Metropole Hanoi where she was often assigned to cook for many foreign leaders. The elegant woman, a traditional Hanoian, brings a very special charm and skill�set to the kitchen, from the selection of raw materials and sophistication in processing technology to her enthusiasm when discussing meal preparation. You display a love of cooking? Does that love come from a family tradition? I have been blessed to live in a family that has a strong cooking tradition; my grandmother and mother are good women in housework. I was also fortunate for the opportunity to study through to graduation, after which an opening allowed me to work in the Metropole
Hotel, providing a chance to learn and practice cooking.

As you are experienced with many of the world's cuisines, how do you rate the culinary quintessence of Vietnam? For many Vietnamese, our food is a necessity of daily life, so they may not recognize its unique qualities. Personally, I thought the same until I worked at the Metropole and interacted with a lot of famous chefs. Witnessing their ingenuity in delivering these distinctive cuisines to the world, I reconsidered and found that I could help develop the culinary delights of Vietnam. Since Vietnamese foods are very special, tasty, rich and good for health, we can proudly state that our cuisine can match the quality of other cuisines around the world.
As busy chef, do you have family time? Actually, I have very little time with my family, sometimes I cannot eat together with them. I often joke that my successful day is one in which I can eat two meals with family. Saying so, women chefs have many disadvantages, but in return we are endowed with soft and refined cooking.
What are the most challenging aspects of your job? There are many challenges and the first is the hard work. We are expected to work long hours and to be on time. In addition, chef jobs are like “having to please everyone”, and it is difficult to please all the patrons. For me, cooking is to have passion and to live up to the job. For those determined to work only 8 hours in a day and get paid at the end of months, they are only "cooking workers". Dedicated chefs have a much more demanding schedule.
What is healthy eating in your opinion? It must have nutritional balance, with not too much protein. Meat needs to be in harmony with vegetables, tubers and fruit.
With more than 20 years in the industry, what are you most proud of? At first, I was proud that I had mastered this profession. Starting as an unskilled person, I have learned and cooked dishes with our national identity. Moreover, I now have a team of talented young people that love their jobs. We will continue to expand our passion for preserving and developing Vietnamese elite cuisine.
If you choose a dish to introduce to international customers, what dish would you choose? It is difficult because Vietnam has a lot of good food. Maybe I would suggest noodles, sour fish soup or grilled chopped fish because they are favored dishes.
Your future wishes? I hope to see more young people dedicated to cookery, ready to live it with passion. If you are young, please try to learn a foreign language, improve your knowledge�base and skill�set, so Vietnamese cuisine will reach out to the region and the world. Consider cooking is the work of the heart ●

INGREDIENTS 600gr beef shank, cubed 2 carrots, peeled and cut into thick slices 4 medium potatoes, peeled and quartered 2 cloves of garlic, finely chopped 1 tbsp fresh ginger, finely grated 2 -3 stalks fresh lemongrass, finely chopped 2 whole star anise 1 cinnamon stick 2 tablespoons tomato paste 1 tablespoon shallot, minced 1 medium onion, diced Fresh cilantro 3 tablespoons vegetable oil 1 tablespoon sugar 2 tablespoons fish sauce Salt, to taste 1 tablespoon pepper 3 – 4 cups water 1 cup coconut water 1 tablespoon five spice powder Rice noodles, steamed rice or crisp baguette

PREPARATION Cut the beef into chunks and mixed with shallots, lemongrass, fish sauce, garlic, ginger, salt, sugar, pepper and set aside to marinate for 3 hours. Heat the oil in a large heavy pot over high until very hot. Add minced lemongrass and garlic, ginger, onion and cook until translucent. Then add all beef to the pot and brown evenly all sides. Then add tomato paste, stir and cook for 5 minutes. Add the water, coconut water, star anise, cinnamon stick and lemongrass. Bring the mixture to a boil, reduce the heat to medium low, and simmer for 1 hour. At the end you can add the potatoes and carrots and let everything cook together for another 10-15 minutes. Add salt and pepper to taste. Garnish with a generous sprinkling of chopped cilantro. Serve with rice noodles, steamed rice or crisp baguette ●

The 36 trade villages of old Hanoi Along with the development of social and market economies, Hanoi's streets have changed a lot compared to the old days. Even so, many of the streets have kept their traditional trade practices from centuries ago. By Archite ct Nguyen Phu Duc

anoi’s Ancient Quarter with an unusual name of "36 Streets" is a group of urban associations representing a long historical period of Hanoi. The word “street” is used to describe a place of gathering for many craftsmen who had migrated to join others creating similar handicrafts. During the Ly and Tran dynasties, skilled artisans from outlying villages would gather here to set up business and build trade. Many of Vietnam’s trade villages can be found in the Ancient Quarter where their traditional products are more sophisticated. In order to be able to establish a career in Thang Long for instance, the skilled workers must be good at crafting and creating special products to serve the community. When the craftsmen came to the capital, they brought their customary beliefs, lifestyles, mindset, ethical standards, and cultural values from the village where they were born and grew up. All of these things contributed to the rich and diverse Thang Long culture.

Housing was also developed to meet communal requirements during the formation of the Ancient Quarter. The storekeepers kept the storefront narrow, but had great depth and space behind the store, including the house and yard. This created a “tube house” with multiple functions: shop + transaction + living + factory + kitchen. These tubular houses were linked together into wards, creating streets named “Hang” that represent their common industry and commodities. During the Ly and Tran dynasties, there were 61 wards and the Ly dynastry 36 wards and 12 handicrafts. By the time of the Nguyen dynasty and the French invasion later, business had became increasingly active; roads were opened and the way of trading had changed. The houses transformed into shops, the streets began selling the same goods, and the handicrafts were no longer produced at one place but connected back to the original villages. It can be said that the appearance of the 36 Streets not only documents the development of traditional handicrafts, but has also its enrichment of the economic, cultural and social life of the Ancient Quarter’s communities. 36 Streets has become a special feature in the culture of Hanoi, its craft villages and a part of the urban history of the thousand years as Vietnam’s cultural capital ●
