A Refreshing Approach to Goal Setting for 2024 At this time of year, many of my coaching sessions are about goals for the year ahead - earnings, achievements, changes. In the corporate world, the S.M.A.R.T. goal-setting model is often emphasised but this never resonated with me, nor do I use it with my clients. Instead, I encourage you to understand what you WANT and WHY. What truly drives you? What makes you eager to start work on Mondays? What do you want so passionately that you’ll step out of your comfort zone? Here’s some questions to consider, and responses from recent clients to inspire your thoughts! How do you want to feel ABOUT your business this year? • Proud of my achievements • That my work better reflects what’s important to me How do you want to feel IN your business this year? • More joy and lightness rather than

anxiety and stress • In control of my business instead of it controlling me What is your primary business theme this year? • Expanding and hiring new employees • Reinventing my brand to establish expertise or specific leadership Why do you want to achieve that? • I want to help x and make a huge difference • I want to retire in 5 years How will achieving that improve your life? • I’ll be more present with my partner/ family/kids • I’ll be less stressed, sleep better and my health will improve See the difference? When you connect your goals of winning new clients or growing your business with the longing to spend more time with your family; it

connects on a whole deeper level. When you have this connection with your goals, you’re ready to step into planning mode. Needing help to craft motivating goals and plans, and support to stay on track? Consider booking a discovery call. Let's make this your happiest year yet! Using AI ethically for business At the November education seminar, Kieran McNeill from Scaramanga Agency, presented an update on some of the main AI (artificial intelligence) tools available for businesses and how to adopt these into their business, taking into account the ethical aspects. If you missed the seminar, Kieran and Claire Scaramanga have recorded a podcast, which covers the areas

discussed. There has been a huge uptake in the adoption of AI since ChatGPT was introduced by OpenAI (now part of Microsoft) in November 2022. There are generative AI tools covering every aspect of business, as well as open source models which businesses can use to develop their own models to train with relevant data sets and then use.

In terms of ethics, Kieran looks at many aspects, including the question of plagiarism and the potential damage that AI-generated content could do to your search engine optimisation. AI can now pass the Turing test, where a computer is indistinguishable online from a human – a CAPTCHA is an example of a Turing test. This is making it harder for computers to detect AI content and identify plagiarism. However, humans can often tell the difference! At Scaramanga, we create a lot of original content for clients, but we do not use AI to write any of it. We think AI has a part to play (topic research for example), but that human creativity is still very important and must be preserved.
