The DigiDownload
The past two months have delivered pivotal developments digitally across the UK From regulatory reform to tech infrastructure upgrades Here’s a concise look at three standout stories shaping the nation’s digital future
Government Unleashes £1 Billion Cyber-Security Push
In June 2025, the UK declared a landmark cybersecurity initiative, pledging over £1billion to bolster protections across Critical National Infrastructure (CNI) sectors; energy, healthcare, transport and more. The nnn
NCSC is steering a resilient approach dubbed “Secure By Design/Operations,” combining AI-driven defence and human expertise The reforms arrive amid rising threats to legacy tech and real-world attacks such as NHS ransomware incidents
Regulatory Spotlight: UK’s Digital Markets Act Poised for Action
The Digital Markets, Competition and Consumers Act 2024 has received Royal Assent and empowers the CMA’s Digital Markets Unit to crack down on unfair digital market practices subscription traps, fake reviews and drip pricing included In July 2025, the CMA hinted that it may use these powers to tackle competition issues in the UK’s cloud infrastructure market.
Sky, ITV and Channel 4 have partnered to launch a joint digital advertising platform aimed at bbbbbb
competing with Google and Meta’s dominance.
The self-service system will let small and medium-sized businesses easily across the broadcasters’ on-demand services, mimicking the simplicity of social media ad tools By pooling inventory, the broadcasters aim to win back market share in the £30 billion UK digital ad sector The collaboration is part of a wider push to offer affordable, targeted TV-style advertising to smaller advertisers and reduce reliance on big tech platforms
The digital shift isn’t slowing, it’s gaining momentum For those ready to adapt, experiment and think bigger, this is a moment to seize The future won’t wait for cautious steps, it will reward bold moves and the vision to turn today’s changes into tomorrow’s advantages

Ethics over Interest
In recent years, Sharia-compliant lending, also known as Islamic finance, has been gaining popularity in the UK beyond its traditional Muslim clientele This surge in interest stems from several key factors that appeal to a diverse range of borrowers, regardless of religious affiliation
Firstly, Sharia lending offers an ethical alternative to conventional finance It operates on principles that prohibit the charging of interest and adheres to guidelines that promote fairness and transparency in financial transactions This ethical framework resonates with individuals and businesses seeking financial solutions that align with their values of social responsibility and ethical investing
Secondly, Sharia-compliant financing often provides innovative structures that can be attractive to a broader market For instance, partnerships and profit-sharing arrangements are utilised instead of interest-based utilised
loans These structures can offer flexibility and potentially lower risks for borrowers, particularly in volatile economic climates where traditional financing may be less accommodating
Moreover, the growing recognition and acceptance of Sharia finance within mainstream financial institutions, and HMRC, have contributed to its wider appeal. More financial institutions in the UK now offer Sharia-compliant products, making them accessible to a broader spectrum of borrowers who may

What Gets Measured, Gets Managed: The Power of Feedback
Customer feedback isn’t a luxury — it’s a necessity.
You might believe your service is strong, but without asking your customers how they feel, you’re making assumptions Feedback is the only way to truly understand what’s working, what’s not, and where the opportunities lie
Why Feedback Matters
Customer insight helps you:
- Identify friction points before they impact your reputation
- Understand what drives loyalty and repeat business
- Empower your team to take action
- Highlight what makes you stand out
What to Measure
To get meaningful insights, you need clear metrics:
- CSAT (Customer Satisfaction): Evaluates specific interactions
- CES (Customer Effort Score): Identifies how easy it is for customers to achieve their goal
Choose metrics that align with your goals and monitor them consistently
How You Ask Matters
A well-timed, easy-to-complete survey makes a difference Use a mix of closed and open questions, keep it short, and don’t ask what you already know Feedback should be integrated into your customer journey, not tacked on as an afterthought.
Don’t Just Collect It Act On It Feedback is only powerful when it drives change Share insights with your team, close the loop with your customers, and prioritise the improvements that will make the biggest impact. Celebrate the wins

Consultative Selling: A Path to Sustainable Growth
Building a successful business and generating profitable sales revenue depends on more than just a great product or service; it's about learning how to build genuine, lasting relationships. The transition from transactional selling to a consultative approach is what separates shortterm gains from sustainable, longterm growth
Many sales professionals struggle with the initial phase of a business conversation Moving beyond small talk requires a strategic transition and the confidence to ask questions that uncover a client's real challenges This isn't about what you can sell; it's about what you can help solve.
Once you’ve initiated a conversation, the key is to actively listen By asking strategic, open-ended questions, you can identify a client's pain points and aspirations. This deep understanding m
allows you to articulate value not in terms of features, but in how your solution directly addresses their specific needs This personalised approach is far more compelling than any standard sales pitch
Your goal is to secure a commitment while navigating objections with confidence. This requires an approach based on trust and credibility, where you view objections as a request for more information By focusing on these core skills, from initiating a conversation to overcoming objections, you can build immediate rapport, cultivate client relationships, and unlock your full potential
Securing a sale is a key milestone, but the effort shouldn't end there The real opportunity lies in nurturing that relationship, becoming a trusted advisor, and consistently seeking ways to add value. By staying engaged, you can identify new business opportunities and leverage the trust you’ve built to gain referrals This continuous effort to develop the relationship is the foundation for a robust pipeline, transforming a single sale into a powerful, lasting partnership
Take the Next Step

Commercial Lease Breaks: The Importance of Getting It Right
Richard Burraston
Many commercial leases contain express provisions relating to the ability of one party, or both, to bring the lease to an end before the expiry commonly
of the contractual term. These are more commonly known as break clauses
However, successfully exercising those provisions can be fraught with risk A failure to do so correctly may leave tenants liable for rent and other lease obligations until the original term expires, and landlords unable to regain possession of their premises on more favourable terms
Break notices require strict compliance Even minor errors or omissions can leave a party exposed.
Common mistakes include failing to serve the break notice far enough in advance of the break date, not complying with the strict service provisions set out in the lease, or drafting the notice incorrectly. If the lease requires the notice to be written
in blue ink, on red paper, then that is what must be done While a court may be sympathetic to minor discrepancies, case law suggests the risk lies firmly with the party serving the notice
Any conditions attached to the break must also be fully satisfied This often includes ensuring that all rent has been paid in accordance with the lease, not just apportioned to the break date, and that any interest due on previous late payments has been settled.
If your lease contains break provisions and you’re unsure of your obligations, it’s important to seek legal advice to avoid the risk of getting it wrong

How can HR managers better prioritise women’s reproductive health at work?
Every year, tens of thousands of women in the UK consider leaving the workforce due to persistent reproductive health inequalities and discrimination HR managers have a legal and moral duty to tackle these issues In a National Institute for Health Research (NIHR) funded study, co-led by Dr Lilith A. Whiley (University of Sussex Business School) and Dr Ruth Abrams (University of Surrey), findings identify a range of workplace interventions to support pregnancy and related complications, postnatal return, and menopause. Their recommendations for employers include:
Occupational health programmes that encourage early disclosure and consultations with pregnant workers, as part of a supportive environment that normalises discu
discussions about workplace vv adjustments;
Supportive line manager attitudes and protected, high quality spaces for breastfeeding employees; Apps offering evidence-based content and self-help for those experiencing menopausal symptoms, as well as training for line managers of staff experiencing menopause;
HR auditing existing policies and procedures to ensure they are needs
b based and in line with scientific vvvevidence; Avoiding a one-size-fits-all approach by involving those most likely to benefit from interventions in their design and delivery
Their research finds evidence that interventions designed along these lines can improve employee performance and commitment to their organisations. Read more here.

Importance of Policy Reviews and Fundraising for Crawley Open House
We're continuing to see requests from businesses across the Gatwick Diamond Region contacting us for a HR Audit to conduct comprehensive policy reviews with many looking ahead to the pending Employment Rights Bill changes in 2026 and 2027 a
In a number of cases, these are businesses who haven't had any form of HR involvement for a number of years and recognise that there is likely to be some 'gaps' across their suite of company documents This activity has reinforced just how crucial it is for businesses to maintain up-to-date employment policies and contracts A standout example in the last couple of weeks, was working with a company where documentation hadn't been refreshed since 2016 (we've also seen examples which go back further than that!) Employment law is evolving over the next 12-18 months and outdated policies can leave businesses vulnerable to compliance issues and potential disputes. We always recommend regular policy reviews, bbbb
they aren't just best practice, they're essential for protecting both employers and employees in today's ever changing.
Following Ian Wilkins’ inspiring presentation at our May Members Meeting at Lingfield College, where he shared the incredible work Crawley Open House does and the challenges they face, we felt moved to support the cause. Ewen has chosen to take on the Barns Green Half Marathon to help raise awareness and support for the charity His training is going well, and with just a few weeks to go, we’re all behind him! Revenue Recognition: What FRED 82 Means for Construction FRED 82 introduces a new way to record revenue that’s especially relevant for long-term construction projects It focuses on clearly defining contracts, breaking down what’s being delivered, and recognising income as each part is completed This means companies will need to keep tighter records and pay closer attention to changes, retention payments, and bundled services.
Fire Protection as a Catalyst for Resilience and Growth in the Gatwick Diamond

At Pyrotec Fire Protection, we’ve seen that combining alarms, extinguishers, fire doors, passive protection, thorough risk assessments, and regular fire safety training gives organisations the best chance of staying compliant while minimising disruption Training ensures staff can respond confidently in

AI is remaking SEO - and the winners will be the brands people already trust
Google’s AI-led search and LLMs now elevate signals of Experience, Expertise, Authoritativeness and Trust (E-E-A-T) alongside the classics. In this world, brand mentions – linked and unlinked – act like reputation beacons When your name appears in reviews, round-ups, news, and community threads, generative engines are more likely to find and incorporate you into their responses.
This shift pushes strategy from pagelevel tweaks to brand-level authority The playbook: publish mentionworthy assets (original research, definitive guides, data-rich explainers); run Digital PR to earn coverage and list inclusions; explainers);
contribute expert commentary and guest content; cultivate verified reviews; participate in communities with genuine expertise; and strengthen entity clarity with consistent branding and schema Combined with smart link building, this creates a compounding loop: more mentions → more trust → more hh

Spirit of the Downs has once again put Sussex on the map of exceptional spirits
Spirit of the Downs’ latest release, Sussex Brandy French oak aged using the chardonnay grape from Tickerage Vineyard 2021, Cuvée Tom Parker, has just been awarded a Great Taste Award star, a mark reserved for products considered outstanding in quality and exceptional in flavour.
This cask-strength Chardonnay grape distillate has been aged in three types of oak, producing a brandy that is rich, aromatic, and complex, with nuanced layers of vanilla and oak and a smooth, lingering finish At 61% ABV, it is one of the strongest and most distinctive brandies in the world, designed to be savoured slowly
The release carries a deeply personal connection: it is named
after Tom Parker, the grandfather of founder Michael Yeoman, who served in the Royal Navy, where the traditional daily tot of rum was a much-loved ritual This brandy is a tribute not only to Tom’s naval service and legacy but also to the careful craftsmanship of the distillery.
It is produced in collaboration with some of Sussex’s top winemakers, using their grape pomace, which is fermented, distilled, and barrel-aged into the brandy Demonstrating a commitment to sustainability, any leftover waste is sent to Trenchmore Farm to fertilise their orchards, closing the loop on production responsibly
With only a limited number of bottles released, enthusiasts have a rare opportunity to experience the spirit first-hand For the opportunity to
