Sussex Community Foundation launches Tackling Poverty report In November Sussex Community Foundation launched the Tackling Poverty Report, part of the Sussex Uncovered Series. The report was launched at the Foundation’s annual meeting at the Brighthelm Centre in Brighton, which was attended by local organisations and charities, as well as numerous donors and supporters of the Foundation. The report, the first of a series of ‘Sussex Uncovered Reports’ focusing on the Foundation’s funding priorities, investigates the population dynamics in Sussex and the levels of poverty and disadvantage in our communities. It highlights particular areas of high need (including Hastings, Portslade, Crawley and Eastbourne) and the four key challenges we are facing in
the county: an aging population, high levels of long-term illness and poor outcomes for those with a disability; inflationary pressures are contributing towards financial hardship and there are multiple deprivation challenges in coastal communities. Kevin Richmond, CEO at Sussex Community Foundation, said: “While there is a lot of stark data, and worrying information in this report, we do not despair. We see hope every day in the amazing charities that we support and the dedicated and inspiring staff and volunteers that work with them to make Sussex a great place to live for everyone."
