Reasons To Ride September 2025 DIGITAL

FROM THE PUBLISHER

With the summer winding down and the air turning cooler here in the Midwest, people often mistakenly think that riding season is over – but that couldn’t be further from the truth. In fact, several of our favorite events of the year “fall” into the later part of the season.

Thunder on the Strip in Geneva-on-the-Lake (GOTL) Ohio is a great rally that is really only promoted locally for the most part – so many don’t know about it. However, it is one of the largest motorcycle events in the Midwest with thousands traveling each year to this historic resort town on Lake Eire. The Reasons to Ride crew has been taking part in the rally for years and will be hosting our 15th BIKE SHOW as part of Thunder. Over the years we’ve added a TATTOO PARTY, BIKE BLESSING, and more as we host the THUNDER ZONE adjacent to the Old Firehouse Winery and Sunset Bar.

(See pages 20-23 for more)

Immediately following Thunder, we head back up to Michigan for the Rochester Hills Bike Show. This is a community driven, charity bike show that we helped launch last year following a tragic shooting at a kid’s park. It turned into one of the best shows of the year, and we’re carrying it on at a new, larger location.

These two events embrace everything about why we ride – beyond our love of the machines themselves – good times with good people. And in the case of Rochester Hills – a great cause!

These are all “Reasons To Ride” which really define the concept behind the name of this magazine and our broader concept online. Possibly inspired by the Toby Keith song “Beer or My Horses” and a proclamation that I came across framed at the Union Club in downtown Cleveland. That notice called for volunteers to form a posse going after horse thieves at the turn of the century. That idea of saddling up with brothers in arms for a cause really hit home. It’s what we do as riders when we ride to support a charity, a brother or sister, or simply to clear our heads of the chaos that surrounds us.

This magazine and our websites seek to share information about upcoming events and destinations that call for riders. We try to provide extra information and resources to help with those rides, and we try to connect like minded riders so that they might join together. We’re always stronger when we ride as one but more vulnerable when we ride alone.

That’s who we are and we invite you to join us on this ride. If you’re able to join us in Geneva or Rochester Hills, come on out and join the fun. If not, look for other events and options closer to home that might work with your schedule – but whatever it is, get out and ride!

There are endless REASONS here amongst these pages and out on the road itself!

Ride Safe and Live Strong!

Sincerely,

Publisher and President of Reasons to Ride!

Cold Weather Riding

Stay Safe, Comfortable, and Confident on Two Wheels Through the Chill

As Fall arrives, the temperatures can drop – sometimes even swinging 20-30 degrees or more within the same 24 hours or even ride. It’s important that you plan ahead.

Riding a motorcycle in cold weather is a test of both spirit and preparation. The crisp air, open roads, and solitude of winter landscapes offer a unique thrill, but these pleasures come with their own set of challenges. Frigid temperatures, icy surfaces, and biting winds can turn an ordinary ride into a daunting experience for even the most seasoned motorcyclist. However, with attentive planning and the right gear, cold weather rides can be not just manageable, but really enjoyable.

Invest in Proper Riding Gear

· Break out the Leathers! There are plenty of reasons that riders prefer leather – and cutting the wind is right up there. Even insulated street gear can’t compare.

Heated Gear: Heated jackets, gloves, insoles, and vests powered by your motorcycle’s battery or rechargeable packs can make a world of difference. Look for adjustable temperature controls and reliable connections.

· Thermal Base Layers: Start with high-quality, moisture-wicking thermal underwear. Merino wool or synthetic blends are best, as they keep your skin dry and trap heat.

Windproof Outer Layers: A windproof, waterproof motorcycle jacket and pants are essential. Gore-Tex or similar materials block cold air and repel water while maintaining breathability.

Insulated Gloves: Cold hands are not only uncomfortable, but dangerous if they go numb. Consider layered gloves or dedicated heated gloves for extended rides.

Balaclava or Neck Warmer: Don’t neglect your neck and face. Fleece or wool neck gaiters and balaclavas help seal out wind and retain warmth under your helmet.

A heated vest can go under your favorite lighter riding gear.

Warm Socks and Boots: Wool socks and insulated, waterproof boots keep feet dry and prevent heat loss from toes—often the first part of the body to get cold.

Layer Smartly

Layering traps warm air and lets you adjust insulation as conditions change. Avoid cotton, which holds moisture and loses insulation value when wet.

Ensure your layers do not restrict movement; you need to operate your motorcycle with agility and comfort.

Pay Attention to Helmet Choice

· Full-face helmets offer better insulation than open-face designs.

Before You Ride: Preparation Is Vital

Inspect Your Motorcycle

· Battery: Cold weather drains batteries faster. Check charge levels and consider a battery tender for overnight charging.

· Tires: Tires lose pressure and grip in the cold. Monitor PSI closely and choose tires rated for lower temperatures if you ride regularly in winter.

Fluids: Ensure your oil, coolant, and brake fluids are at proper winter specifications and topped up.

Lights and Electronics: Days are shorter in winter. Test your lights, indicators, and heated gear connections before hitting the road.

· Brakes and Controls: Cold makes cables stiffer and lubricants less effective. Check for smooth operation and lubricate as needed.

Check the Weather

Always check the latest forecasts. Pay attention to both air temperature and wind chill. Don’t get caught unprepared by a sudden drop in temperature or change in weather.

If ice, snow, or freezing rain is expected, consider rescheduling your ride.

On the Road: Riding Techniques and Safety

Warm Up Your Motorcycle and Yourself

· Start your motorcycle a few minutes before you depart to let the fluids circulate and the engine warm up.

· Do some light stretches indoors to reduce muscle stiffness before riding.

Adjust Your Riding Style

· Pinlock visors, anti-fog inserts, or breath deflectors reduce visor fogging—a serious hazard in cold weather.

Keep a balaclava in your vest or jacket pocket for those nights you get caught out after the temperatures drop!

· Allow extra time for all maneuvers. Braking distances increase in the cold—even more if there’s frost or debris.

Take corners slower and with less lean. Cold tires and possible black ice make aggressive riding dangerous.

· Increase your following distance to give yourself more time to react to hazards.

· Use smooth, deliberate throttle, brake, and steering inputs. Sudden moves can break traction.

Watch for Hazards

Shaded areas, bridges, and overpasses freeze first and can hide black ice.

Salt, sand, and debris from winter road treatments can reduce traction.

Frost may form even if the air temperature is above freezing, especially at dawn or dusk.

Stay Visible

Wear reflective gear or add reflective tape to your clothing and bike.

· Ride with your headlights on, even during the day.

· Clean your lights regularly; grimy lenses reduce visibility.

Stay Comfortable: Managing Body and Mind

Take Regular Breaks

Warm up indoors or at a gas station every hour or so to keep your core temperature up.

· Drink warm, non-caffeinated beverages to stay hydrated and avoid the chill of dehydration.

· Eat high-energy foods to fuel your body’s heat production.

Recognize the Signs of Cold Stress

· Early signs include shivering, numbness, and loss of dexterity— especially in fingers and toes.

· If you feel confused, exhausted, or stop shivering, seek shelter and warmth immediately. These are signs of hypothermia.

Know Your Limits

There is no shame in cutting a ride short if you can’t stay warm or safe. Listen to your body.

Consider alternate transportation if conditions deteriorate. After the Ride: Care for Your Gear and Bike

Dry and Inspect Your Gear

Hang wet gear to dry thoroughly to prevent mold, mildew, and odors.

Recharge batteries for heated gear as soon as you return home.

Clean Your Motorcycle

Rinse salt and de-icing chemicals off your bike as soon as possible to prevent corrosion.

Lubricate moving parts as cold and wet conditions accelerate wear and rust.

Perform a Post-Ride Check

Look for any damage, leaks, or unusual wear caused by winter roads.

· Top off fuel and make sure your bike is stored properly if you’re not riding again soon.

Cold weather riding demands preparation, vigilance, and respect for the elements. But with the right mindset and strategy, the experience can be as exhilarating as any warm-weather journey—perhaps even more so for the quiet roads and sharp air. Layer well, ride smart, and always prioritize safety over bravado. Cooler weather awaits, but that doesn’t mean you need to put away your bike quite yet.

Reasons to Ride on You Tube

Yet another platform for riding info!

RtR is proud to announce that we’ve added a new YouTube channel for sharing information with riders. We have accumulated over 15 years worth of videos on Facebook and other services, but those are spread all over and some sites are now talking about cutting back on the old stuff. So we’ve decided to start developing a library of videos that are more easily accessible on YouTube. We will still to the reels and Live Ride Reports on Facebook, but we will be moving more and more content over to the new YouTube channel.

We will also start sorted playlists with Ride Reports, Ride Stop Profiles, and Event Previews. It’s our intention to build the channel into a resource that folks can access for helpful information and maybe a spot for ideas on new rides and destinations to visit.

I’m also especially proud to share that the channel and unique content on it are being managed by my son Cole. He took the initiative to start the channel and has been working on developing new content for it. With that in mind, we are committing to this being a family friendly format which we hope everyone will appreciate and respect.

SUBSCRIBE and WIN!

To help get the channel going, we would like to invite everyone to stop by and consider hitting the “subscribe” button. If you find something you like and appreciate what we’re building, you might consider subscribing and possibly sharing to your page. If you do –and include the #ReasonsToRide tag on your post, you will have the chance to win prizes as part of our Ride n Win Challenge.. possibly even that ’49 Harley or $500 GC! We will be awarding at least 20 prizes a month based upon the YouTube subscriptions!

OATS on the ROAD!

As many of you already know, I’ve been on something of a health kick this past year –resulting in losing over 80 lbs since last Fall. It’s something that I needed to do after not really taking care of myself for too long. But enough on that – I just wanted to share something I discovered along the way.

To help avoid hitting fast food stops on longer rides, I’ve started packing insulated bottles with “Oats Overnight” inside. If you’ve never tried this approach to oatmeal, it’s really great. It’s convenient, seems to satisfy the appetite for far longer, and are apparently healthy for you as well. And most importantly – they taste great! The Oats Overnight packets are available online and come in an amazing variety of flavors. My favorites are the Strawberry or Berries & Cream, and the Banana Nutbread is great!

Check them out online - oatsovernight.com

You can also make your own with rolled oats, protein powder, and dried fruits – but I found that it really wasn’t saving much when I added it all up. You can also find prepared bottles at Walmart and even some gas stations! But pack ahead, and you’ll save a lot.

Now a word from our Sponsor

If you and your family are in need of legal assistance, make sure you’re talking to an actual law firm.

Erskine Law is a FULL SERVICE Law Firm dedicated to providing the best possible legals representation to those in need. And we’re proud to recognize Erskine Law as the Presenting Sponsor of both Reasons to Ride Magazines and the 2025 Championship Bike Show Series.

Let’s be honest — there’s no shortage of attorneys out there advertising themselves as “motorcycle attorneys.” These days, it seems like anyone with a leather jacket and access to a bike is suddenly an expert on motorcycle law. But owning or riding a motorcycle doesn’t automatically qualify someone to handle your case when it really counts.

What matters is experience, legal expertise, and a proven track record — not photo ops or gimmicks. While it might sound cool that your attorney rides, it’s far more important that they know how to win. And the backing of a qualified, established firm helps ensure that!

At Erskine Law, practicing law isn’t a marketing strategy — it’s their mission. Unlike some so-called “motorcycle firms” that prioritize swag bags over courtroom strategy, Erskine Law focuses on what really matters: you, your case, and your rights. They won’t hand your case off to a stranger, sell it down the line, or treat you like a file number. And they don’t gauge your case based on how fast it might settle with the least effort — they’re prepared to go the distance, all the way to trial if needed. That’s not just a promise — it’s what they do.

When you contact Erskine, you’ll talk to an actual attorney, not a commission-driven rep walking you through a checklist. You’ll get real legal advice, specific to your situation, from a firm trusted for years by some of the largest companies in the country. Now, that same level of legal firepower is available to you – and it’s only a phone call away.

Because when an accident happens, and your life changes in a moment, you don’t need someone to polish your bike — you need someone who knows how to fight for you in court. That’s what Erskine Law delivers.

We’re honored to have Erskine Law as a partner, and we’re even more proud to recommend their services

If you need help following an accident or injury – don’t call a marketing firm, call a serious, real law firm. Erskine Law In Ohio call 419-491-7770, California 949-7776032. In Michigan or elsewhere, call 248-601-4499.

MOTORCYCLE MINISTRIES

Just a little thought from Jesus’n’ME

Transplanting…

That’s what I’ve been doing lately…. transplanting. Have you ever noticed that when you transplant something, it looks great when you first move it to a new spot. You water it, make sure it is covered well, feed it if necessary and then watch it as it goes through plant shock. Yes, plant shock. It’s when a plant is moved from one place to another and it is trying to acclimate itself to the new environment. It happens more to plants that have been in one place for years and then are moved. It doesn’t happen right away, but within the first few days you can see it. The leaves start to curl, and the flowers will die out if there are any. Day after day you see it turning brown and eventually, it dies out. At least you think so. “Do I pull it up? Should I just leave it until Spring to see if it will live? Maybe just keep watering and it might come back.” What to do… what to do.

So, as I watch the process of the bushes I have just moved, it puts me in mind of us, as humans. Some of us can move from place to place, job to job, church to church, relationship to relationship, and not skip a beat. Floating is in our nature and there isn’t a bump in the road whenever we move. The roots never go deep enough to dig into the soil, so it’s easy to pick up and go, find a new spot to land in and ground us for the moment. We don’t suffer plant shock because we have become immune to the movement. Much like plants that are grown from seeds, they are put in a pot big enough to sustain until transplanted and when they are growing, they establish their roots in the pot. Once it’s time for their new place, the dirt goes with them and their roots are bound within them, so they survive by the strength of their own inner root system. They don’t rely on another plant to help them survive; they have enough strength on their own…or so it seems.

Personally, I was like that. Moving from place to place, job to job, state to state. Just couldn’t get settled. I wasn’t running from anyone or anything. I just kept thinking, “it will be better if we’re out of here.” Met a lot of great people, saw a lot of different spaces, got job experience in the most unusual types of work, but as I look back today, I can see how God’s hand was at work even then, shaping, honing skills, and leading me to the right places at the right times. Then things started to change… the last transplant was coming… I bought land and then came the coolest day of my life! I was handed the keys to my brand new, stick built home on one acre in the country. Roots!

I shared all of that to say this: you may feel like you need to be transplanted, you may feel like you are in a transition time of life. You may feel like everything is stagnant and you’re not going anywhere nor are you blooming where you are planted nor are you producing any fruit. Maybe there’s another way you can freshen your roots without a major move or change. Let’s look at it for a moment. There was a man who had a fig tree in his garden. A man came to get some fruit and found none, he repeatedly did this for three years and finally said, “This tree is worthless, cut it down because it has had no fruit on it for three years!”

The man who was tending the garden said, “Sir, let it alone this year also and I will dig around it and fertilize it. If it bears fruit, well, but if not, after that you can cut it down”. Luke 13:6-9

This is us… we need to take the time to allow our Master Gardener to freshen the ground around us. Liven up our roots a little so we can dig into fresh ground. Then and only then will we be able to grow

and survive right where we are planted.

Fun fact: Perennials are plants that come back every year, annuals are only here for a season. Annuals grow and produce immediately and then die out once the season is over. Perennials are more intentional. They know their purpose is to root in, grow slowly and produce every year. The rule for them is this: The first year they sleep, the second year they creep, the third year they BURST into bloom!! Every year after that they keep producing more and more, both on the outside where the fruit is seen and, on the inside, where the roots grow deep.

If you’re feeling antsy, work up the space around you, change something in you and you may find that what you needed was not a full transplant, but just a little stirring around your roots! Dig in…great things are usually found just beneath the surface!

Catch you in the Wind!

What is Moravec’s Paradox and What it has to do With Motorcycling?

Moravec’s paradox is an observation by artificial intelligence and robotics researchers that reasoning requires very little computation while sensorimotor and perception skills require enormous computational resources.

What does that have to do with riding motorcycles? For me, everything! When I read about Moravec’s paradox the other day, it took me straight back to my early days of riding, when I rode endurance runs on dirt bikes. A typical enduro was about 80 miles length and took about four hours to ride. The course was dirt roads and trails on difficult terrain, navigating by a route card and arrows posted on trees. Scoring was based on how well you stayed on a time schedule.

Back then my pavement riding centered on long distance touring, but as I aged out of riding enduros in the 1980s I purchased a Kawasaki Concours and discovered that sport touring offered it's own "in-the-zone" experience on pavement that has carried me through many years of riding.

After a succession of Sport touring models that included two Honda ST's- (1100 and 1300), and two Yamaha FJRs. In 2020 I wanted to try downsizing and added a Suzuki 650 XT to the stable. It was light and fun to ride on pavement, and being an adventure style bike, I could ride

Riding enduros is where I first experienced getting into “the zone," a trance-like state where my mind was flooded with sensory input- wind in my face, the bike moving under me, rapid moving images to my eyes, the sound of the engine and wind, etc. I was wrapped around the bike, hanging on for dear life, controlling it with both hands, feet, and body. Accelerating, braking, shifting. My mind, senses, and body were all humming in harmony at 100% for hours on end, interacting with the bike and the environment. It was like nothing I had ever experienced.

easy dirt and gravel roads whenever I encountered them. The FJR was less versatile and getting heavier for me to handle as I get older, so in 2024 I replaced it with a Triumph Tiger 900 ADV Rally pro, which is my new favorite bike. I can jump on it, ride across the country, go straight into the zone for hours at a time, on pavement, dirt or gravel in total control and comfort. It sharpens my sense of balance, every muscle and joint gets motion and exercise. When arriving home from a ride, my mind is clear and I feel refreshed. After sixty years of riding, there is still nothing else that provides me such an enriching sense of freedom and fulfillment.

Ride on!

BIKE SHOW REPORT

CELEBRATING AN AMAZING 2025 – LOOKING TOWARDS 2026!

Twenty

twenty five has been the biggest year ever for

the Reasons To Ride Bike Show Series!

This year’s Championship Bike Show Series is on track to have over 800 bike show registrations over the course of approximately 20 shows and rallies, with over 500,000 riders and guests attending host events over 3 states!

Our new Bikes & BBQ Shows were a great success, with great showings at several non-traditional locations that had never held such shows before. Reasons to Ride also hosted several new dealer shows and bike night shows with outstanding responses!

Our relatively informal, friendly, owner / exhibitor focused shows have resonated with a lot of folks that have enjoyed the more social atmosphere of even our smaller shows. Exhibitors are encouraged to share their experience and passion for the bikes with not only those attending the shows but each other as well. Over 40% of our exhibitors have participated in multiple RtR shows, with many traveling to show their bikes outside their immediate area. Many have made connections with other exhibitors and enjoy joining them at subsequent shows. They’ve become part of the “RtR Family” and that’s a great thing! It’s the community that we celebrate – just as much as the bikes we show!

Venues and event organizers have also discovered that it’s a lot easier to join the series and have Reasons to Ride out to produce the shows, then do it themselves – even though many can do it on their own and have in the past. Being part of the series not only brings in more new folks from outside the area, it also allows them to focus on hosting the guests themselves and their core business instead of the contest. We are grateful for the support of both those attending the events and those having us out to host the shows. Together we are building the community and introducing more to the concept of not just riding the bikes but customizing, restoring, and showcasing their rides!

While there are always opportunities for improvement, we are extremely pleased with the response from the riding community this year and are already looking to continuing this success in 2026. While ReasonsToRide.com covers events from coast to coast, the RtR Bike Show Series has been focused almost exclusively on our core Midwest States. While we continue to focus on this area, we are looking to expand to the surrounding states in 2026 and introduce new shows at national rallies as a means of introducing RtR to even more riders!

We’ve already begun reserving dates for the upcoming year and considering new venues in new areas. We have also begun refining the show concepts, making more distinctions between our basic show formats – the Bike Night Shows, Bikes & BBQ’s, Regional Shows, and our Championship Invitationals. Each show offers a distinct format that both those hosting the shows and those exhibiting their bikes can expect, and the consistent format still allows for customization for each location.

If you’d like to host a show or recommend a location, please don’t hesitate to reach out and let us know. You can email us at Info@ ReasonsToRide.com As always, our shows – like the magazine and online resources – are driven by our friends and family within the riding community. We are grateful for your support and consider it our responsibility to deliver and not disappoint in all of these areas. It’s what we do – and is certainly our passion!

So thanks for making this such an amazing year – and we are already looking forward to the next one!

LOUDEST PIPES!

At select Bike Shows and Bike Night Tour Stops, we will now be hosting LOUDEST PIPES competition for motorcycles. All makes, models, and years are welcome to join in the fun as we test the bikes and see which bikes really crank up the decibels! We will have actual decibel meters on hand to determine the scores or the bikes and we will then present awards to the folks with the top score! As with all of our shows, there is an absolute understanding that this is all about having fun and a good time as we celebrate our rides with Brothers and Sisters of the road. We encourage everyone to pre-register for the bike shows – to not only score the free swag, but to ensure that we have the Pipes Competition as part of the schedule. It will NOT be offered at every show. For any questions or interest in joining the Tour, email us at BikeShowInfo@gmail.com

RAIN DATES

Every year it seems as though Mother Nature takes special joy in targeting our bike nights, rallies, and especially the BIKE SHOWS with her showers; but of course this year seems especially wet.

In instances where the forecast calls for more than30-50% rain, we will work with our host partners to make a call on rescheduling the bike show whenever possible. This is certainly not because we believe that all the bikes are trailer queens that can’t stand a little rain – but because of several distinct facors. First and foremost, we are concerned about the safety of all of our participants. We don’t want anyone to get in an accident or have other problems as the result of being out in especially challenging weather – when we could have simply waited for a better day. Secondly, we understand that a lot of folks have invested a lot of time and resources into their show bikes. Some bikes go through a grueling and especially invasive detailing process prior to the shows –and we appreciate the shiny stuff at the shows. We don’t folks to weigh all of that against the chance of getting caught in the rain, in order to participate in the show. And lastly, we want to host a fun and successful show!

We want to host fun, exciting shows with lots of folks having a good time. Sheltering under a tree or small tent, or simply standing in the rain for the afternoon – isn’t as much fun as a nice summer day. And more than likely, we won’t get as many folks coming out if the forecast calls for rain. And our shows are all about the folks – as well as the bikes themselves.

So, if the forecast calls for rain – we will be considering all of this, and the availability of a new date for the event. Please follow the event on Facebook or register in advance for updates. We will be emailing the pre-registered folks and posting updates to the event itself on Facebook, in the event of any changes.

NEW TROPHIES and MEDALLIONS!

Reasons to Ride has always sought to present unique trophies and awards at the Bike Shows, and this year we are once again kicking things up even more with the introduction of custom acrylic medallions. These custom full color acrylic medallions will be presented to Best of Class and Judges Choice winners at regional and bike night shows this season. We are also developing custom layered trophies for the Best of Show Awards. These medallions will be presented to the exhibitors as part of the awards ceremony, hung around the neck by our own Iron Angels! Later, though, they can be hung on racks or displays – or even mounted onto the bikes. We will also be bringing back the popular wall plaques to go along with the medallions. We love seeing all the pictures of exhibitors displaying the wall plaques on their office, shop, and garage walls – even in their trailers! We will have some of the JUMBO Best of Show plaques as well – but do realize that the 3’ placards aren’t the easiest to take on the bikes! We will have smaller ones also available for those that prefer them

Check out the custom lanyard displays available online at ReasonsToRide.com

Local SHOP SHOWCASE!

If you’re a local builder or work with a local shop, we’d like to extend an invitation to come out and join us at

an upcoming RTR BIKE SHOW! While you’re welcome to join us at any shows, we’d especially like to encourage you to join us at a show in your area. Builders and shops are encouraged to bring your clients out and showcase your work. For the rallies, shops can even set up and offer services during the rallies. Or they might just set up and sell t-shirts and other swag or parts. For shows in their area, shops can show off their work and connect with local riders and future customers. Shops will be able to sponsor their customers in the shows as a means of showcasing their work as well. These sponsorships and even the display space will often be available at NO COST to RtR Advertisers and Sponsors.

For most shows there will be limited space available, so we would encourage everyone to plan ahead. For more information, email Info@ReaonsToRide.com or BikeShowInfo@gmail.com

The Most Popular Concealed Carry Firearms 2A REPORT

Consider Your Lifestyle: Think about your daily clothing, routine, and typical A Comprehensive Guide to Top Choices for Personal Defense

In a world where personal safety and preparedness are rising concerns, the decision to carry a concealed firearm is an important one for many individuals. The choice of which firearm to carry is influenced by a range of factors including reliability, size, caliber, capacity, ergonomics, and brand reputation. This guide explores the most popular concealed carry firearms, delving into the attributes that make them top choices among everyday carriers, law enforcement, and self-defense advocates.

Understanding Concealed Carry Firearms

Before examining specific models, it’s essential to understand what makes a firearm suitable for concealed carry. The ideal concealed carry firearm is typically compact or subcompact, lightweight, and offers a balance between stopping power and manageable recoil. It should be comfortable to carry for extended periods and easy to conceal under everyday clothing. Reliability is paramount, as the firearm must function flawlessly in high-stress situations.

Features to Consider

Size and Weight: Smaller, lighter firearms are easier to conceal and more comfortable to carry daily.

Caliber: Popular calibers include 9mm, .380 ACP, and .40 S&W, offering manageable recoil and sufficient stopping power.

· Capacity: Higher capacity is desirable, but must be balanced against overall size.

Reliability: The firearm must function consistently, regardless of environment or conditions.

Ergonomics: It should feel comfortable and natural in the hand, with intuitive controls.

Top Concealed Carry Firearms

The firearms listed below consistently appear in rankings, discussions, and reviews for their popularity and performance in the concealed carry community. Each offers distinct advantages, and the best choice often comes down to personal preference and intended use.

1. Glock 19

The Glock 19 is often described as the “gold standard” for concealed carry. This compact 9mm pistol is renowned for its reliability, straightforward design, and ample 15+1 capacity. Its size strikes a balance between a full-size duty pistol and a subcompact, making it suitable for both concealed carry and home defense. The polymer frame keeps it lightweight, while aftermarket support allows for extensive customization.

2. Smith & Wesson M&P Shield

The M&P Shield series, particularly in 9mm, has gained massive popularity for its slim profile and ease of use. Available in both standard and “Shield Plus” versions, these firearms feature a single-stack or staggered magazine design, providing 7 to 13 rounds depending on the model. The Shield’s reputation for accuracy and concealability makes it a favorite among both new and experienced carriers.

3. SIG Sauer P365

SIG Sauer revolutionized the concealed carry market with the introduction of the P365. This micro-compact 9mm pistol offers an impressive 10+1 or 12+1 capacity in a footprint smaller than many traditional single-stack pistols. The P365’s innovative design, crisp trigger, and night sights make it highly appealing for those wanting high capacity without sacrificing concealability.

4. Springfield Armory Hellcat

The Hellcat is Springfield Armory’s answer to the growing demand for high-capacity micro-compacts. Its standard magazine holds 11 rounds, with extended options available. The Hellcat features aggressive grip texturing, a robust sight system— including a “U-Dot” rear sight—and an optic-ready option, making it highly competitive in the market.

5. Ruger LCP II / LCP Max

For those seeking maximum concealability, the Ruger LCP II or the newer LCP Max are hard to beat. Chambered in .380 ACP, these ultra-compact firearms can fit comfortably in a pocket or small holster. The LCP Max increases capacity to 10+1, while maintaining the diminutive size that made the original LCP popular.

6. Glock 43X

The Glock 43X combines the slim slide of the Glock 43 with a slightly longer grip, offering a 10+1 capacity in an easyto-conceal package. It’s praised for its shootability, reliability, and compatibility with numerous aftermarket accessories, including higher-capacity magazines.

7. Walther PPS M2

Walther’s PPS M2 is a single-stack 9mm with an ergonomic grip and excellent trigger. The slim profile and smooth lines make it comfortable for inside-the-waistband (IWB) carry. Available with 6, 7, or 8-round magazines, the PPS M2 offers flexibility depending on the user’s concealment needs.

8. Smith & Wesson J-Frame Revolver

Despite the popularity of semi-auto pistols, the classic J-Frame revolver remains a staple for concealed carry. Models such as the Smith & Wesson 642 and 638 are valued for their simplicity, reliability, and ability to fire from concealment. Chambered most commonly in .38 Special, these revolvers are lightweight and easy to operate under stress.

9. Kimber Micro 9

The Kimber Micro 9 offers the aesthetics and ergonomics of a 1911 in a lightweight, compact form. With a 7+1 capacity and options for tritium night sights and custom grips, the Micro 9 appeals to those who want a classic look with modern performance.

10. Taurus G3c

The Taurus G3c is a budget-friendly, compact 9mm with a 12+1 capacity and features typically found on more expensive firearms, such as a crisp trigger and good ergonomics. Its value and performance have earned it a loyal following among cost-conscious concealed carriers.

Honorable Mentions

Several other firearms are frequent choices for concealed carry, each with its own loyal fan base:

· Ruger LC9s

Beretta APX Carry

· HK VP9SK

Smith & Wesson M&P Bodyguard .380

· Glock 26

Springfield XD-S Mod.2

Canik TP9 Elite SC

Choosing the Right Concealed Carry Firearm

When selecting a concealed carry firearm, it’s crucial to consider not just popularity but also your own needs and preferences. Here are some steps to guide your decision:

· Try Before You Buy: Whenever possible, test-fire models at a shooting range to assess comfort and accuracy.

environments where you’ll carry.

Holster Compatibility: Make sure there are quality holster options available for your chosen firearm.

Maintenance: Choose a firearm you are comfortable cleaning and maintaining regularly.

· Training: Regular practice and firearms safety training are essential, regardless of the model you choose.

Legal Considerations

Laws concerning concealed carry vary widely by jurisdiction, including where, when, and how you may carry a firearm. Always research and comply with local, state, and federal laws, and obtain the necessary permits or licenses. Safe and responsible gun ownership is the foundation of effective self-defense.

Conclusion

The popularity of concealed carry firearms reflects advancements in design, materials, and public interest in personal protection. Whether you opt for a micro-compact semi-automatic, a classic revolver, or something in between, the best concealed carry firearm is the one that fits your hand, your lifestyle, and your commitment to safety. The models highlighted above have proven themselves in the hands of countless carriers—now, the choice is yours.
