From our earliest days, more than 15 years ago – we decided that we wanted to make sure that we were always growing and expanding our outlook. Not only in terms of our business, but in terms of what we were offering you – our readers.
We believe that you need to get out and explore new roads to really discover what riding is about – and to really discover ourselves. And that might mean literal roads and new destinations, new events – or even just taking a new path with our bikes in the garage as we tear them down and build them back up as ours. It’s all about expanding our focus and growing.
If you’re only taking your bike to the corner for a beer or coffee and never really make it your own, you’re missing out on a lot.
For us as a company, it also relates to expanding our focus beyond the local communities and into neighboring states – even nationally and yes, even internationally! While we’ve always included an expanded amount of coverage – with numerous trips to Sturgis and Galveston, almost annual runs to Daytona – it’s always a question of how we package that in a print magazine and through our online site.
The FACT is that riders in Southeast Michigan are A LOT closer to Ohio Bike Week in Sandusky or the Whiskey and Wine Saloon in Indiana than Marquette, Michigan. A LOT closer. And that’s no disrespect to the folks in Marquette, just saying that Oakland county riders (Southeastern Michigan) might be missing out on some really cool closer riding events, if we didn’t cross state lines in terms of our content. And yes, we’re all Brothers and Sisters on the road –regardless of what teams we cheer for on the TV.
With this in mind, we are committing to more regional publications and content as we expand our primary focus across the Midwest and beyond. Online, we are doubling down on more national coverage – with more than 500 riding events added to the website just this past week alone –coast to coast! (Reasonstoride.com/event-calendar)
Online trolls and folks that see themselves as competitors try to portray this as a weakness or some sort of desperate move – but simply pick up the magazines. It’s easy to see that we’re stronger than ever with more events and more coverage. We’re just going beyond the local bars and shop down the street, which you most likely already know about.
There’s NOTHING wrong with grabbing a burger and hanging at the local stop when home, but bikes were meant for riding. We will always include local events – charitable rides and bikes nights so you know what’s going on; but let’s expand the focus and consider a wider range for stops. There are a lot of great destinations to discover and folks to meet along the way.
So,we hope you appreciate and understand why we’ve chosen to expand to a multi-state format. If you have questions or thoughts you’d like to share, you’re always welcome to reach out at Info@ReasonsToRide.com
As always, we appreciate your support and look forward to seeing you out on the road!
let’s RIDE!
Thank you.

Sincerely,

The Piston Powered “Super Show” Returns for 2026!
For years, the Piston Powered Auto-Rama has been one of the largest custom vehicle shows in the nation – if not the world. However, on June 2nd the future of the venue fell into question when Cleveland City Council voted to change the lease of the I-X Center to make the location more attractive to a Fortune 100 company with other plans for the facility. Rumor mills began pumping and stories of a data center or distribution hub flooded social media and local news stories. The outcry from not only riders and supporters of the Piston Power Show, but as well as the Cleveland Car Show, RV Show, and other events was overwhelming.
While debate amongst local politicians and leaders has erupted, the I-X Center has confirmed the existing events through March of 2026, including the Piston Power Show.
“The 2026 Car Parts Warehouse I-X Piston Powered Auto-Rama will return to the I-X Center, March 27 - 29, 2026 to celebrate the 60th annual show!”, confirmed Steve Legerski, Stow Manager.
“ We will open the application portal on August 4, 2025, for vehicles registration. All previous commercial vendors will be contacted to renew their spaces in August. Tickets will go on-sale on Black Friday, Our team is working with all of our feature partners to host the celebration of "Piston Powered Machines" at the I-X Center.”
So at this point, Reasons To Ride is on board to not only help support and promote the Piston Power Show, but to once again help host the motorcycle area of the show. Stay tuned for more in next month’s edition of RtR or you can follow us online for up to the minute news!

Chaplain Otto Ministries has establish the first ever American Legion Post inside an Ohio Prison.
In 2024, John “Otto” Guthmann established a ministry focused on a segment of the Veterans community that many had forgotten or written off – those incarcerated within our prison system.
Chaplain Otto believes that even behind bars, Vets deserve healing, dignity, and hope. He has acted upon this by developing a program involving classes and workshops, the development of anger management videos, and more than 100 in-person trips to prisons to work with those in need. And in a little over a year, the results have already been dramatic.
Using clinical assessments, participants are tested and the program impact is assessed by both Otto and the correctional system. The results are significant both on paper and in terms of the daily lives of those effected:
Over 75% dropped at least one anger category and displayed significant score improvements.
Among those clinically tested, over 80% showed cognitive, behavioral, and emotional improvements.
That’s the technical way to express that the program is making a difference. And while nobody is excusing any crimes done, we believe that our Veterans stood the line for us and faced potentially life threatening and horrific situations for us. We should be just as dedicated to standing for them when things go wrong and not give up on them.
Pastor Otto started this ministry on his own, self-funded, and is just now getting the support of sponsors and various fund raisers. In May, the 2nd Annual Chaplain Otto’s Prison Run was held as the LARGEST MILITARY SUPPORT RIDE in Ohio for 2025, with 100% of the proceeds going to support the outreach programs.
Reasons To Ride is committed to supporting Chaplain Otto, his rides, and his program – and we ask that you join us in this effort. You can make a direct donation to the link here or by scanning the QR Code. You can also text unclesam to 50155 to make a donation. . MARY GILBERT, CMA STATE COORDINATOR
Do you remember when you were a kid, and you thought time was never going to hurry up? Like waiting for summer break or Christmas seemed to be an eternity. Now the days and weeks just fly by like a breath of air and Christmas came and went, summer is rushing through and before we know it, Christmas again! What’s the deal??
I have said it before, and I will say it again…we seem to focus so much on what’s coming ahead that we fail to live in the moment at hand. What are we missing? Probably more than we realize. It’s like a photograph…you can capture the moment on film, but can you keep the emotion of the moment as fresh as the picture? Sometimes we can keep a slight impression of the memory, but is it the same as when it happened? Not really. And how many times have you looked at a photo book or on your phone, saw a picture and thought, “When was that taken?”
Listen…I’m only talking about this because I think it’s time we get down to the reality of things and take a slow, long look at what’s going on around us. We are missing some fabulous moments! I am so guilty of jumping from one event to the next that I sometimes miss something that my grandchildren are doing, (like the 6-year-old and baseball), or a neighbor in need of a hand up and the reason is because my focus is out of tune with the purpose!
How about you? Do you find yourself rushing from point A to point C so quickly that you miss point B? When was the last time you jumped on the bike just to cruise around town, or better yet just a leisurely ride on a country road with no real purpose in mind other than to suck in the beauty of the evening? Are you so wrapped up in the flow of life that you forgot to kiss your honey goodbye before you left to go wherever? Are you so focused on the arrival that you missed the journey? Have you lost the thrill of the go because of the show?
These are questions we should ask all the time…why? Because we need to understand how short we are in the time we have been given to do all that we have been assigned to. We need to understand that some of the assignments we take on are not always the ones meant for us. We need to realize that the most precious thing we have going for us is time and what we do with our time is how we tune in the focus for the purpose.
Jesus didn’t rush around for anything. He had a friend that was lying sick and people rushed to let him know that he was close to death. They said, “you need to hurry!” Jesus stayed where he was for a couple more days and then went to see his friend. Well, he was greeted by his friend’s sister who said, “He died! If you would have been here, he wouldn’t have died!” Jesus simply said, “He’s not dead, he’s just sleeping.” The people looked at him like he was nuts! After all, it had been days since he died and he was in the tomb all wrapped up and even stinking by this time, (no embalming then). Jesus cried inside himself because after all they had seen him do, they still didn’t believe his word when he told them what was up. Well, Jesus spoke to the tomb loudly and said, “Lazarus, come out!”
What do you think happened? Well. The dude rose up and shuffled out! He had to shuffle because he was all wrapped up in burial clothes so tight he couldn’t move! So, Jesus said, “Unwrap those grave clothes from him and let him go!” And they did and found that Lazarus was alive and well with no stink on him! Woohoo! What
a miracle that was! And it all happened because Jesus had his focus in tune with his purpose.
Well, how about you? Can you agree with me that getting our focus in tune with our purpose will be a better plan than jumping headlong into an overwhelming situation that might create more of a problem than a solution and only leave a memory that’s more of a blur than an impression? Let’s get about a new way of thinking and remind ourselves to slow down and enjoy the journey a little bit more.
July is bringing a few events we will be serving at…we hope you will enjoy the celebration of our Country with family and friends and remember to breath in the memories! The burst of the fireworks only lasts for a moment, but the impression they leave can last a lifetime!
Catch you in the Wind!
Mary G.

By Norm Kern, MSTA Editor / ReasonsToRide.com Contributor
In June, I attended the Motorcycle Sport Touring Association (MSTA) TWISTAR rally in Spring Green Wisconsin, which was revived in 2025 after a ten year hiatus. I was excited to return, as western Wisconsin's Driftless area has wonderful roads throughout a lush, rolling countryside where the roads' gentle hills and endless sweeper curves take you past the many farms in the area.
Rally headquarters was the Round Barn Hotel in Spring Green. Event coordinator Rob Milton was very excited as this was his first time as an event coordinator and he wanted to keep the event simple. He was expecting about thirty attendees and was quite surprised when nearly fifty of us showed up.
TWISTAR has traditionally been a weekend rally where attendees arrive Friday afternoon, ride a route on Saturday and go home Sunday, so Rob offered two route choices that both had their lunch stop at the Great River Roadhouse, located along the Mississippi river on State route 35 near De Soto, WI. Rob named one of the routes “Sane” which was just over 200 miles of sweeper curves. The other route was the “Insanity” version- 300 miles of twisties- 150 in the morning and another 150 in the afternoon.
I was interested in the Insanity version in the morning and an easier ride after lunch. Since my Ohio friends Tim Mullins and Bill Rusk and I arrived on Thursday and wanted to ride both Friday and Saturday, I created a couple of route variants to run in reversepart two of the Insane route and part one of the Sane route. We ran the reverse versions on Friday and rode Insanity part one and Sane part two on Saturday, which worked out perfectly! Food at the Roadhouse was excellent both days.
Friday's ride started at 9am with a larger group- nine riders total- than I am normally comfortable with. Rob Milton wasn't going to arrive to start check-in till afternoon. Since there was no one else to lead we just made the larger group work. The open roads, sweeper curves, almost complete lack of other traffic and towns encouraged a faster pace but made it easy to stay together in spite of being a large group.
TWISTAR was originally held in mid-May when the weather could be cold and rainy. I started attending in 2004, and went almost every year until the original run of the event ended in 2015. There were many familiar roads and intersections on the route that brought back fond memories. I remember one year when the temperature was 35 degrees in the morning and only got to 43 with occasional drizzle. I remember walking into the banquet that evening and thinking, “This is the most heated clothing I have ever seen at one time!” Mid June is a better date for TWISTAR- weather stayed partly sunny in the 60s & 70s both days and was perfect for our rides.
We got back to the hotel around 3:30pm, checked in with Rob and hung out for a while, greeting new arrivals and catching up with many old friends I remembered from previous events. Friday evening we went to dinner at the Shed, in downtown Spring Green- good food and drink and even live music in a large patio area behind the restaurant. Our group's Saturday ride also started at 9am, this time with only six riders and we were well-matched, running a spirited but safe space- fast in the twisties, but relaxed on the straights. Faster riders stay near the front of the group. Slower riders in the rear fall behind in the twisties but since we don't run too fast on the straights, it is
easy for them to catch up and we all stay together.
On Saturday there were multiple other groups from the rally on the route. Likewise the Roadhouse was much more crowded and lunch took a long time. We made it back to the hotel about 4pm, hung out for a while then went to dinner at the Reunion restaurant in Spring Green, which is located in an old bank building downtown. They have a small dining room in the original bank vault, as well as several nice dining rooms. Since it was crowded, we had to sit on the patio, but the weather was nice and the food was delicious.
Sunday morning we got up to light rain, but drove out of it in about 15 minutes as we headed East in Tim Mullins' truck. Yes, we trailered, but only because there are no fun roads to speak of between Dayton, Ohio and Spring Green. Was it worth the 540 mile trip to get there? Yes, and we look forward to going back next year!

As we enter the second half of the 2025 Bike Show Series, we are proud to announce the addition of yet another class / competition to our Bike Show Series – a LOUDEST PIPES CHALLENGE! Unlike our audio / sound competition, this one is all about the VOLUME!
At select Bike Shows and Bike Night Tour Stops, we will now be hosting LOUDEST PIPES competition for motorcycles. All makes, models, and years are welcome to join in the fun as we test the bikes and see which bikes really crank up the decibels! We will have actual decibel meters on hand to determine the scores or the bikes and we will then present awards to the folks with the top score! As with all of our shows, there is an absolute understanding that this is all about having fun and a good time as we celebrate our rides with Brothers and Sisters of the road. We encourage everyone to pre-register for the bike shows – to not only score the free swag, but to ensure that we have the Pipes Competition as part of the schedule. It will NOT be offered at every show. For any questions or interest in joining the Tour, email us at BikeShowInfo@gmail.com
Every year it seems as though Mother Nature takes special joy in targeting our bike nights, rallies, and especially the BIKE SHOWS with her showers; but of course this year seems especially wet.
In instances where the forecast calls for more than30-50% rain, we will work with our host partners to make a call on rescheduling the bike show whenever possible. This is certainly not because we believe that all the bikes are trailer queens that can’t stand a little rain – but because of several distinct factors. First and foremost, we are concerned about the safety of all of our participants. We don’t want anyone to get in an accident or have other problems as the result of being out in especially challenging weather – when we could have simply waited for a better day. Secondly, we understand that a lot of folks have invested a lot of time and resources into their show bikes. Some bikes go through a grueling and especially invasive detailing process prior to the shows – and we appreciate the shiny stuff at the shows. We don’t folks to weigh all of that against the chance of getting caught in the rain, in order to participate in the show. And lastly, we want to host a fun and successful show!
We want to host fun, exciting shows with lots of folks having a good time. Sheltering under a tree or small tent, or simply standing in the rain for the afternoon – isn’t as much fun as a nice summer day. And more than likely, we won’t get as many folks coming out if the forecast calls for rain. And our shows are all about the folks – as well as the bikes themselves.
So, if the forecast calls for rain – we will be considering all of this, and the availability of a new date for the event. Please follow the event on Facebook or register in advance for updates. We will be emailing the pre-registered folks and posting updates to the event itself on Facebook, in the event of any changes.
If the event is rescheduled, we will offer refunds for those not able to participate on the new date for a limited time.
Reasons to Ride has always sought to present unique trophies and awards at the Bike Shows, and this year we are once again kicking things up even more with the introduction of custom acrylic medallions. These custom full color acrylic medallions will be presented to Best of Class and Judges Choice winners at regional and bike night shows this season. We are also developing custom layered trophies for the Best of Show Awards. These medallions will be presented to the exhibitors as part of the awards ceremony, hung around the neck by our own Iron Angels! Later, though, they can be hung on racks or displays – or even mounted onto the bikes. We will also be bringing back the popular wall plaques to go along with the medallions. We love seeing all the pictures of exhibitors displaying the wall plaques on their office, shop, and garage walls – even in their trailers! We will have some of the JUMBO Best of Show plaques as well – but do realize that the 3’ placards aren’t the easiest to take on the bikes! We will have smaller ones also available for those that prefer them.
Check out the custom lanyard displays available online at ReasonsToRide.com
If you’re a local builder or work with a local shop, we’d like to extend an invitation to come out and join us at an upcoming RTR BIKE SHOW! While you’re welcome to join us at any shows, we’d especially like to encourage you to join us at a show in your area. Builders and shops are encouraged to bring your clients out and showcase your work. For the rallies, shops can even set up and offer services during the rallies. Or they might just set up and sell t-shirts and other swag or parts. For shows in their area, shops can show off their work and connect with local riders and future customers. Shops will be able to sponsor their customers in the shows as a means of showcasing their work as well. These sponsorships and even the display space will often be available at NO COST to RtR Advertisers and Sponsors.
For most shows there will be limited space available, so we would encourage everyone to plan ahead.

Motorcycles and firearms both symbolize freedom— but combining the two requires careful planning, legal awareness, and the right gear. Whether you're cruising crosscountry or commuting to work, here’s what you need to know about carrying a handgun on two wheels.
Legal Considerations
• Know Your State Laws: Laws vary widely. Some states allow open carry, others require a concealed carry permit. Always check both your home state and any states you’ll ride through.
• Permits Matter: A valid concealed carry permit is often required to legally carry on a motorcycle.
• Transport vs. Carry: If you’re not carrying on your person, your firearm may need to be unloaded and stored in a locked container, depending on local laws.
According to GunBroker’s guide, here are some of the most effective ways to carry:
• Shoulder Holster: Great for concealment under a jacket, but can be tricky to access quickly.
• Tank Bag or Holster: Mounted on the bike’s tank, this allows off-hand access while riding.
• Concealed Carry Jacket or Vest: Offers built-in holsters and easy concealment, especially in cooler weather.
• Thigh or Crossbody Bag: Popular for summer riding, these keep the firearm secure and accessible without printing.
• Wind Matters: At 70 mph, your shirt becomes a parachute. Consider high-riding holsters like shoulder rigs or belly bands to avoid exposure.
• Dress for the Ride: Leather jackets and armored vests double as concealment. In hot weather, opt for compression undershirts with holster pockets.
• Retention Is Key: Your holster must keep the firearm secure during vibration, wind, and sudden stops.
• Practice Drawing: Your draw technique may need to change depending on your riding position and gear.
• Crash Considerations: Think about what happens to your firearm if you go down. Avoid hard holsters in areas likely to impact the ground.
Other Notes, courtesy of USCCA – USConcealedCarry.com
If you’re right-handed, your hand is on the throttle. Drawing while moving isn’t just impractical — it’s reckless. The vast majority of defensive gun uses occur while stationary: at a stoplight, in a parking lot or at a gas station. Prepare accordingly.
Even if you could draw, aiming and firing while riding would create more risk than resolution. Responsible carriers must distinguish between cinematic fantasy and self-defense reality.
Early Indian motorcycles had their throttle on the left, and it’s often said that this was to accommodate police departments that wanted to be able to draw and shoot with their right hand. But that’s not really the case…
Early Indians had a carburetor on the left side of the engine, so in an era before standardization, it made sense to put the throttle on the same side as the carb. Then as the carb moved elsewhere in later models, the throttle also moved in some
cases – but not always. Later placements became more standardized. The Military and Police did buy a lot of Indian motorcycles, however most folks don’t really advocate the idea of trying to ride and shoot at the same time. That’s really better left for cyborgs in the movies.
Many jackets and vests feature deep inner “outlaw pockets” that accommodate a compact firearm. But once you hang your jacket over a chair at a restaurant, you’re no longer in control of your weapon.
Bags, belt packs and motorcycle gun holsters — including the Ukoala bag mentioned earlier — offer a compromise. They keep the firearm close and concealed, but not technically on-body. If you go this route, be disciplined. Keep the bag on you, zipped and worn securely with retention in mind.
If you need to stow your firearm in your saddlebags, make sure you use a motorcycle gun safe that’s lockable and not easily visible. The Bulldog Car Safe, Vaultek Slider or Console Vault offer secure, mountable options that protect against theft and weather.
Traveling with a firearm across state lines isn’t as simple as tossing it in your saddlebag. While the Firearm Owners’ Protection Act (FOPA) allows transport through restrictive states, conditions apply:
• You must be legal to possess the firearm at both origin and destination
• The firearm must be unloaded and stored separately from ammo
• Both should be inaccessible, ideally locked in a hard container
States like California do not honor most non-resident permits. Before your trip, review the USCCA Reciprocity Map and statespecific transport laws. If you’re unsure how reciprocity works, check out this full breakdown of how concealed carry permits are recognized across state lines.
