FROM THE PUBLISHER I frequently find myself explaining to event organizers that motorcycle riders will travel a lot further than those in cars for an event in many cases, because the ride is a major part of the experience – often the most important part for many riders. It’s all about the journey. And if that ride takes them across state lines, it’s really not even a consideration in most cases. As we begin our 15th year of publishing regional motorcycle magazines, we’ve decided to focus on larger regional editions with this in mind. While we will continue to publish state specific editions in some cases, our primary edition every month will be a multi-state edition covering events all across the Midwest – along with larger national events. In this edition we are announcing our first Reasons To Ride Bike Show being held in Pennsylvania – our Bikes & BBQ Bike Show in North East, PA. And even though he will cross two state lines to get there, I’m guessing that John Baker from central Michigan just might join us for this fun show. John came down last year for our end of the year Halloween Party in Northeast, Ohio. And while you can always find shows from all across the country on our website, we believe that we should share more events across a greater area to those holding our magazines in their hands. Most riders don’t really care about crossing state lines, and for those riders in southeast Michigan – Ohio Bike Week in Sandusky is far less than half the distance of other in-state rallies in Michigan. So why shouldn’t we share that Rally to them? Of course others might scoff at this. Last year a representative from another magazine in Michigan spent time calling our advertisers there to “warn them” that I wasn’t really from Michigan. And while I really am – born in Washtenaw County and went to school in Albion, I really don’t think they cared. The person calling didn’t talk about the quality of the magazines or the fact that we might reach as many as 4x as many riders – they focused on state lines as an issue. Well, our bikes don’t care about crossing state lines – why should you or your motorcycle magazine? So heading into 2025, it’s our intention to share more and more content and events across those state lines. We’ll share ride stops and rides from throughout the area as well, because you never know when something will catch your eye – and again, it’s all about the RIDE. Now we won’t ask Buckeye and Wolverine fans to swap allegiances, anymore than we’d ask U of M fans to suddenly wear green and white. We will all have our local loyalties, but we are bikers – and we were meant to travel. As always, I’d love to hear your thoughts on this. We’ve seen multiple cutting-edge bikes come and collect all the awards – and then serve as the inspiration for the bike that comes and takes the trophy the next year. It’s pretty cool.

BECOME A LOCAL ROAD REP

If you’re a rider that’s active in your local riding community, we’d invite you to consider becoming a Local Road Rep for Reasons To Ride. This is NOT meant to be a high-pressure sales position and is probably best as a fun side gig for those that want to get involved in the local riding community. It might be a great opportunity for a retiree or a supplement to those with the summer off. And for active riders already involved, it’s a great chance to help promote local events and businesses, while making a “few dollars” to support your riding habit! Like most things, you get what you put out of it. If you’re really active and cover a larger area, you can make good money – but that takes time and commitment. The real payoff is to have a good time as the person to see about getting events or even just a picture in the “local biker mag”. We aren’t looking for guys wanting to be “part-time bad guys” or any nonsense like that, we’re looking for reliable good folks that want to help support others in the community. The ideal folks might be active supporters of a local charity and are looking to expand their activities while getting more exposure for their own ride. We can handle the sales aspects of the area, but we will look to you for pictures of local events and updates as to what’s coming up. And you’ll be able to make some money doing what you’re most likely already doing. We’re asking for a minimum time commitment of 8-10 hours a month. It helps if you have a laptop and a camera – although a smartphone can usually do it. You’ll get some cool swag, access to rallies and other events, and a chance to help a lot of local folks. As our coverage and presence in the area increases, you are able to share in the revenue generated. It’s a proven business plan – it’s what built this entire organization. We think it’s a pretty good deal – for the right folks. If any of this sounds interesting to you, please don’t hesitate to reach out. We will be scheduling “Intro Video Seminars” over the next few months to help explain how it all works. And now is the time to jump in, as we prepare for the change in season and begin looking to next year.

With riding season upon us, we are kicking off our 2025 Ride n’ Win Riding Challenge! This challenge isn’t a skills challenge – it’s a challenge to just get out and ride as much as possible and share where you’ve been. We encourage riders to explore new areas and check out new events. We challenge riders to join us at new rallies and rides all across the Midwest – and even at some of the biggest national events across the country. And along the way, we’re looking for new places to stop! Since its launch in 2011, this program has evolved and grown every year as we try to improve things and ensure that it’s a great time for everyone. This year is no exception, as we add even MORE STOPS and WAY MORE PRIZES! Our primary area of focus for our Midwest stops is across Michigan and Ohio. However, we will are continuing to add stops throughout West Virginia, Kentucky, and Western Pennsylvania as we develop our new Reasons To Ride: Appalachia magazine and in upstate New York and even Southern Ontario as we expand in that direction with our partner Hard Tales. Our magazines cover some of the best riding in the country and there are literally thousands of really cool stops to discover. This year we are continuing to make an effort to focus on more EVENTS and unique riding destinations – such as diners, ice cream shops, and retail stores; rather than just bars. We are going to still include taverns and restaurants, of course, but we will be expanding our focus to include a wider variety of stops. Over 60,000 riders have participated in this program since launched – and we’ve awarded over 6,000 prizes – including motorcycles, travel packages, rally passes, concert tickets – and of course HUNDREDS of t-shirts and other swag! Fifty years ago, an old-time country Pastor was given a heart for the people he saw out on the highways and byways while riding with the son that he so desperately was trying to rebuild a relationship with. As he rode through the countryside and attended different rallies, he saw a need that was not being addressed by the Christian community. “What about them, Lord? Don’t they deserve someone to tell them about You? Can’t You send SOMEONE to tell them?” So, he went back to his congregation and talked to them about what he felt the Lord was saying and asked if there wasn’t SOMEONE who would go and tell…. crickets from the congregation. It was then that Herb Shreve realized that it was him that God was leading to go and tell. So, from there the Christian Motorcyclists Association was birthed. And this is what we have done for 50 years! We go wherever the Lord takes us, doing whatever is needed for whoever He leads us to. You might ask, “Why? What’s in it for you?” Absolutely nothing is in it for me, but everything is for you. It’s the expression of the love Jesus has for you that we carry into the places and spaces that are opened up for us. It’s an opportunity to show how deep His love is for you just by taking a little bit of our time to give a cup of water or coffee. Stand in the hot sun to make sure you have a space to park and assure you that your bike will be taken care of while you enjoy the event. It’s available for a moment when you might need an ear to hear your struggles or even your happy moments. It’s ready to pray for you and your family regardless of whether they are blood or not. It’s getting out and riding with you, enjoying fellowship with you, sitting at the hospital when you are ill or someone you love is there. It’s giving ourselves to be there when you need us.

CMA members are a special group of people who have a heart to change the world one heart at a time and the mission and vision of this ministry hasn’t changed in 50 years. We were the very first ministry in the motorcycling community starting in 1975 and we have made many relationships with all kinds of great people in the motorcycling community and will continue to do so as we move forward with our go and tell commission mandated in Matthew 28:18-20 (NKJV) Jesus came and told his disciples, “I have been given all authority in heaven and on earth. 19 Therefore, go and make disciples of all the nations,[a] baptizing them in the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit. 20 Teach these new disciples to obey all the commands I have given you. And be sure of this: I am with you always, even to the end of the age.” 18

And in Romans 10:14-15 (NKJV) How then shall they call on Him in whom they have not believed? And how shall they believe in Him of whom they have not heard? And how shall they hear without a preacher? 15 And how shall they preach unless they are sent? As it is written: 14

“How beautiful are the feet of those who preach the gospel of peace, who bring glad tidings of good things!” So, there it is…we are the hands and feet of Jesus, representing His love and grace to everyone in order that no one will do this life without knowing Him. Downsizing My Dual Sport Bike As my regular readers know, I have been downsizing my bikes to postpone aging out. The process began in 2020 when I added a 650 Suzuki V Strom XT to my stable and learned I could live with a much lighter chain drive bike.

wide ratio transmission so it cruises comfortably on the road. I rode it and decided to downsize. A couple of months ago I sold the DRZ to a friend and started looking for a KLX 300, but all I could find were new ones or used ones priced like new. Several friends told me to look at a Yamaha WR250R, as an alternative. They are basically unchanged from 2007 to 2020, their last year of production. Turns out the WR250R also weighs about 300 lbs, has about 30 hp, and 9” of suspension travel. It too has fuel injection and a six speed transmission so it cruises comfortably on the road. Pretty interesting! Went to look at a used one I found on Facebook Marketplace. Good used bikes often come with valuable accessories already installed, and this one was no exception. The 2018 model that I found already had most of the parts that I would have needed to buy- Seat Concepts low seat, gas tank with ½ gallon extra capacity, luggage rack. Those items alone would have cost me about $700 to buy. But wait, there's more! FMF muffler with matching fuel injection tuner, Pro Taper handlebars, premium bark-buster hand-shields, Lithium battery, new tires, new chain & sprockets, shorty grips, premium bash plate, LED headlight and stop/tail light, heavy duty foot-pegs. Bike has 24k miles, but other owners told me not to worry- one of my female friends has 50k miles on hers. Mine was owned by a mechanic who had just done the 23k mile valve clearance check and given the bike excellent care overall.

Last September I purchased a Triumph Tiger 900 ADV Rally Pro to directly replace the FJR and address the V Strom's lack of cruise control and gain improved suspension, brakes and many other refinements with little more weight than the V Strom. The Triumph has over 7500 miles now and I just got back the Russell Sport seat conversion which retained the heating elements and perfectly completes this great bike. I have a third bike that I haven't talked about for quite a while- my 2000 Suzuki DRZ400E street legal dual sport that I have had since 2006. It weighs about 315 pounds, has 40 hp, and 12” of suspension travel. Love this bike but haven't ridden it for over a year. Why not? There are several reasons- the seat is very tall, the electrical system is only 200 watts total- not enough to run full heated gear, but the real deal breaker is that it only has a five speed transmission. The engine is screaming when I'm riding 60+ mph on the paved roads in between the gravel and dirt ones. That means that I have to trailer it to where I want to ride, then load it back up to go home afterward. I just didn't want to do that any more.

After buying the WR250R and getting it home, I was amazed at how little I needed to do to get it set up for my needs. I added a small AirHawk seat cushion I had on hand, then the electrical accessories- GPS & phone mounts, a voltmeter and power for all. jpg I discovered that the WR alternator has an output of 360

watts- amazing for a dirt bike and plenty to run my heated gear and grips, so I made some brackets and installed electrical stuff. So what's it like to ride the WR250R? It doesn't have the sheer power of the DRZ, but it's light, super smooth and with the gearing it will run comfortably at over 70 mphexactly what I was looking for and just in time for riding season. Time to ride!

NEW SOUND CATEGORIES and BASS CHALLENGES! New TECHNICAL aspects added and improved pre-registration options. How it works

The competition opens up 5 different contests: Sound Quality (Bike Wars), Sound Pressure, Loud Pipes, and Light it Loud. Standard registration is for just one contest of choice, however optionally competing in multiple sections can be added. Each section contains classes that separate the contestants based on modifications. Contest 1: Sound Quality (Bike Wars) • Class 1- Street Style Stock 1st, 2nd, 3rd o Factory builds up to 4 speakers • Class 2- Street Style Modified o Builds up to 10 speakers • Class 3- Extreme Cycle o Unlimited all out set ups

Contest 2: Sound Pressure • Class 1- Ported Subwoofer(s) o Measured with a microphone placed on the diver seat • Class 2- Sealed Subwoofer(s) o Measured with a microphone placed on the diver seat Contest 3: Loud Pipes • Measures the decibel level of the exhaust 6 ft. away from the furthest point of the rear of the bike. Contest 4 + 5: Light it Loud • Class 1: LED Lights o Best lights in the show • Class 2: Flamethrower (NOT at all shows, depends on venue.) o Best exhaust fire in the show

Judging and Point Scale With a 3 judge panel, each class will have 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place winners. For Bike Wars judges will use the following 5 criteria to give a rating on a 10 pt. scale totaling up to 50 pts. After all judges submit their score card, the contestant’s final score will be the average. For the sections Sound Pressure and Loud Pipes, the winning contests would have the highest meter reading. And then lastly, the section Light it Loud winners will be chosen based on the panel's choice.

In addition to the Bike Show there is also a Bike Blessing, vendors, and a local MOTORCYCLE AWARENESS DAY PARADE hosted by AMVETS and a local equine therapy center. OHIO BIKE WEEK 2025 May 30 – June 7, 2025 Sandusky Ohio www.OhioBikeWeek.com It’s the 25th Anniversary of Ohio Bike Week! It started as a State HOG Rally and has since evolved into the “Largest Motorcycle Event in the Midwest” and one of the largest in the nation! It draws riders from across the Midwest and nation to the shores of Lake Erie. It’s call for riders to come and celebrate the start of riding season on America’s North Coast. The ten days of rides and activities culminate with the “World Famous Block Party” the 2nd weekend on the streets of downtown Sandusky. The rally kicks off the first weekend at Mad River Harley-Davidson and then expands with the Block Party in downtown Sandusky. The Block Party will once again run along the shoreline, centering around the Jackson Street and Barrel House piers – right on the water. Jackson Street offers a broad park-like setting surrounding the big national stage on the water. You couldn’t ask for a more chill place to enjoy a concert with thousands of brothers and sisters. Then there’s the Barrel House Pier – which is Party Central and the place to go for great music and to meet up with folks at one of the coolest “Biker Bars” in the country in the midst of the Rally. Ohio Bike Week is built around a rather unique concept – just throw a giant party, with good music, but make all the shows FREE. There are VIP areas, but you can see all the bands – including the national acts – without spending a dime. The organizers are hoping, though, that if you’re having a great time – you’ll support the vendors and maybe pick up a shirt or two along the way.

Last year’s Rally was one of the best ever – with RECORD BREAKING numbers attending the Block Party and feature concerts! Over the years, Ohio Bike Week has constantly evolved as rally organizers have sought to further develop their concept and bring even more riders together each year. And it’s really the riders that make this rally. Certainly there are a lot of really cool places to go and things to see along the “Vacationland” stretch of Lake Erie, but it’s the folks that really separate this from other rallies for us. Ohio Bike Week is once again offering a VIP All-Access Pass which allows you to get upfront and personal with the performers. Key Stops JACK DANIEL’S BARREL HOUSE SALOON Certainly, our favorite place to escape to during the Block Party is the back outside deck at the JD Barrel House. (Just don’t tell anyone… we want to keep it a secret!) No matter what’s going on a few feet behind you in the Saloon – looking out over the water is amazingly relaxing. Then when you’re ready – turn around and step back into the chaos at the undisputed PARTY HQ of OBW! The Jack Daniel’s Barrel House Saloon is at the end of the Barrel House Pier – which during Bike Week is stocked full of vendors, motorcycles, an occasional stage and bar or two. But as you make your way back, it’s clear you’re making your way “through court” to reach the KING of BIKE WEEK BARS. This is always where the party is – and this year, the entertainment is second to NONE!

RALLY TIP: Many of the HARD-CORE Party Bands are scheduled at the Barrell House, and you’ll want to visit their Facebook page for the final schedule and any updates (that will surely happen). This is always the closing stage in terms of end of the night performances and is the go-to place in times of inclement weather.

MAD RIVER H-D Mad River Harley-Davidson is the presenting sponsor of Ohio Bike Week and plays host to Rally HQ for the week. For most folks, this is the landing spot for when they arrive in Sandusky. You can pick up your VIP and Concert tickets within the dealership, and the lot is filled with vendors and hundreds of bikes for sale! Last year, they added the Mad River Saloon – which was an undisputed hit with live music and fun throughout the entire week! The other big attraction at Mad River H-D is the Harley-Davidson Factory Demo Trucks. You can stop by and test ride all the new Harley’s – including the new ROAD GLIDE, Pan America, the Sportster S, and even ALL THE CVO’s! Responsible Gun Storage

More and more grassroots non-profits and charity events are turning to gun raffles as an effective means of raising funds to support their causes. These raffles are conducted through a licensed broker or shop and offer participants (purchasing raffle tickets) the opportunity to win a firearm for just the price of a ticket – often as little as $5 or $10. As an organization, Reasons to Ride has not been an advocate of this approaches because while we actively support the Second Amendment and the right to bear arms – we strongly believe that it must be done responsibly. And in the case of a gun raffle, we envision scenarios where guns are going to inexperienced owners, possibly without an understanding of how to properly handle and just as importantly – store them. This is a real concern, especially when there are children in the home or it’s possibly not the best environment for a gun to be introduced – such as when there alcohol or other potentially volatile issues at hand. This isn’t about background checks or the legality of the winners having the guns – the involvement of a legitimate, licensed broker or dealer should address that; but the idea that for just a few dollars spent at a bar, suddenly a gun is introduced to a setting where it really shouldn’t be. Just because you “can” buy a gun, doesn’t mean you should; and the price point prompts many to consider the investment. However, when it only costs $10 or the donation supports a good cause – some may buy a ticket without all the thought or proper preparation necessary before bringing a gun home. “Responsible gun ownership is not only about how, where, and when a person uses their firearm; it’s also about how they store it when not in use. However, only about half of gun owners practice safe and secure firearm storage.” Dr. Cassandra Crifasi, from Johns Hopkins (PublicHealth.jhu.edu 5/23) This doesn’t mean raffles can’t be responsibly done, we would just recommend that in addition to following the proper procedures and legal requirements regarding the transfer – that an organization also include maybe a gun safe or at the very least trigger locks for the firearms as well. Modern gun safes and secure storage options come in a wide variety of styles and sizes, with many effective solutions priced as low as $50 – and trigger locks cost less than $10.

Firearm Storage If there’s a gun or guns in your home or vehicles, it’s essential to store them so that they’re inaccessible to kids and any unauthorized people. The best secure storage solution for you is the one that you will use consistently. There are many types of storage devices that meet the needs of different gun owners. Don’t make the mistake of assuming that “hiding” a gun or placing it somewhere that seems out-of-reach will keep a kid from getting their hands on it. And keep in mind that the gold standard for secure gun storage is to keep all guns unloaded, locked up, and separate from ammunition. Secure gun storage solutions are not “one-size fits all.” One type of storage that may work for one gun owner may not work for another. The best kind of gun storage is the type (or types) that you will use consistently and that will allow you to secure all firearms in your home and vehicles, no matter whether they are stored together or separately. Prepare the Topping • In a separate mixing bowl, combine the light brown sugar, self-rising flour, softened butter, oats, and chopped pecans. Use a fork or your hands to mix until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs. • Sprinkle the topping evenly over the banana batter, ensuring it covers the entire surface. Bake the Cobbler • Bake in the preheated oven for 35–40 minutes , or until the topping is golden brown and the filling is bubbly around the edges.

Creamy Loaded Bacon Cheeseburger Alfredo Pasta Ingredients • 12 oz elbow macaroni (or penne, rotini, or shells) • 1 tbsp olive oil (or butter) • 3 cloves garlic, minced • 1 lb ground beef (80/20 for best flavor) • 2 cups heavy cream (or half-and-half for lighter option) • 1 cup milk (whole milk recommended) • 2 cups shredded cheddar cheese (sharp cheddar melts best) • ½ cup grated Parmesan cheese (for extra richness) • 1 tsp onion powder • 1 tsp paprika • salt and pepper to taste Bacon & Toppings • 6 slices bacon, cooked & crumbled • ¼ cup diced pickles (optional, for tang) • 2 tbsp chopped fresh parsley (for garnish) • 1 tbsp ketchup + 1 tbsp mustard (optional, for burger flavor) Step-by-Step Instructions 1. Cook the Pasta 2. Brown the Beef • Stir in garlic and cook for 30 seconds until fragrant. 3. Make the Alfredo Sauce • Pour in heavy cream and milk, stirring well. • Bring to a gentle simmer (do not boil). • Reduce heat to low and stir in cheddar and Parmesan cheeses until melted. • Season with onion powder, paprika, salt, and pepper. 4. Combine & Serve • Add cooked pasta to the sauce, tossing to coat. • Stir in half the bacon crumbles. • Garnish with remaining bacon, parsley, and pickles (if using). • Drizzle with ketchup & mustard for extra burger flair!
