What Is In A Name? FINAL PART 2

by Stephen R. Phillips

Continued from last month

Bulldog Riders is known for its challenging and ever-changing track. The soil is some of the deepest sand in and around Michigan. The track is located in the beautiful countryside of mid-Michigan, which allows for ample beautiful scenery.

The conditions of the track will challenge any rider at any level, and will keep everyone focused while concentrating on their riding. The track will change every lap, and the layout is always being changed and improved. So be prepared! The crew of Bulldog Riders club members prepare the facilities prior to each event to ensure a positive experience, both on and off the track.

2018 marks the 70th anniversary of Bulldog So where in the world did the name come from? What if the name was derived from a club member’s pet Bulldog? I thought it worthwhile to look up the characteristics of an English Bulldog. Many of the animal’s traits mirrored that of our members, such as: an intimidating appearance in contrast to their gentle nature; affectionate; dependable; known for their courage; bullheaded; determined; persistent; territorial. As for our name? There’s a bit more history to cover first.

Over the years, Bulldog Riders has given back to not just the motorcycle community, but to the local community as well. For years, the club donated time and manpower to maintaining one of the many trail systems in the state of Michigan. We have also supported local organizations such as the Boy Scouts, school baseball teams, a local park, and the Millington parade.

The Bulldog Riders track will suit riders at all levels from kids to pros, and everyone in between. With no doubles on the track, all riders can go fast while staying safe. Having little suspension, vintage racers enjoy this feature very much.

Most recently, we have provided the labor for the Arbela Township old tire collection drive. This project was so successful, we have decided to make this an annual event. Many other clubs and promoters have a much larger area of real estate. We feel it is not about size, but what you do with the size you have that matters. Even though our track hovers around one mile in length (depending on how the track crew sets it up), it is the most challenging and safe mile you will ever ride. Several years ago, we took the double- and triple-jumps out and replaced them with table tops. This makes it fast, fun, and safe for all skill levels. The slogan of Bulldog Riders is “If you can ride fast at Bulldogs, you can ride fast anywhere.”
