The meeting also focused upon matters related to Vadhvan & Mumbai Port and setting-up ofMaharashtracoastal state pavilion at National Maritime Heritage Complex, Lothal.

While discussing the completion of Sagarmala Projects in the state of Maharashtra Shri Sonowal mentioned, ‘Immediate attention is required to expedite the completion of 14 Sagarmala projects that have been delayed for almost a year in Maharashtra. By prioritizing these action points, we can significantly contribute to the successful completion of the Sagarmala projects in Maharashtra, fostering economic growth and enhancing maritime infrastructureintheregion’.

It is to be noted that 126 projects worth Rs. 1,13,285 Crore under the Sagarmala Programme are planned in Maharashtra. Out of these 126 projects, 46 projects worth Rs. 2333 Crore are partially funded by MoPSW and out of which 37 projects worth Rs1,387 Crore are under Maharashtra State Government. 9 projects worth Rs 279 Crore have been completed. 18 projects worth Rs 777 Crore are under implementation and 10 projects worth Rs 331 Crore are under development stage.

The detailed discussions were also made on Exemption/Relaxation on VAT for Bunker Fuels in RoRo/RoPax/Passenger Ferry Operations in Maharashtra, which accounts for over 20% of the fuel costforferryoperations.

The discussion also included the development of upcoming Vadhavan Port in Maharashtra. Vadhvan have natural drafts in excess of 18m that would enable ultra large container and cargo vessels to call on the port thereby boosting the efforts to make India a prominent destination for Major Shipping lines and provide required

capacity to accommodate the future cargo growth in the hinterland served by the port.

NEW DELHI: Air-conditioned cabins for trucks will soon be made mandatory, Union Minister Shri Nitin Gadkarisaid.

As drivers play a key role in the transport sector, which is one of the most important areas for India as the fastest growing large economy in the world, there is a need to address issues regarding their working conditions and state of mind, the Minister of Road Transport and Highways said here.

He was speaking at an event to

unveil a book — ‘Desh Chaalak’: A bookhonouringIndianDrivers.

Lamentingthattruckdrivershave been forced to work in extreme heat conditions, the minister said that he has been pushing for air-conditioned cabins for truck drivers for a long time.

“Some people objected to it saying it will increase costs…but before coming here I have signed on the file that henceforth, driver cabins in trucks will be air-conditioned,” Gadkarisaid.

He stressed the need to improve

the working conditions of drivers and also take steps to overcome the shortageofdriversbysettingupmore drivingschools.

Due to the shortage, drivers in India are working 14-16 hours at a stretch while in other countries their working hours are fixed, Gadkari added.

With India emerging as the fastest-growingmajoreconomyinthe world, he said logistics is very important and there is a need to reduce the cost of logistics in order to increaseIndia’sexports.

As UK introduces DCTS, Indian goods worth $960 mn to lose concessional duty access

NEW DELHI: Indian goods worth $960millionwilllosetheirconcessional duty access due to the UK’s new Developing Countries Trading Scheme (DCTS) that will supersede thepreviouspreferentialregime.

Thegoodsincludecarpets,leather products, iron and steel commodities, aircraft parts, precious metals and chemicals.

That said, this exclusion may turn out to be temporary as both countries are in the process of finalising a Free TradeAgreement.

Due to their removal from the "Standard Preferences list," Indian products are no longer subject to preferential duty regulations. The government is pressing for lower access for textiles and leather goods

undertheFreeTradeAgreementthat India and the UK have been trying to workout.

India and the UK have been negotiatinganFTAsinceJanuarylast year, with a goal towards a comprehensive pact that is expected to significantly enhance the bilateral trading relationship worth an estimatedGBP34billionin2022.

The real GDP growth for the Q1 FY24 will come at 8.1% : SBI

Withdrawal of Rs 2,000 note can boost growth by pushing consumpon: Report

MUMBAI: The Rs. 2,000 note withdrawal decision and response to it so far suggest that the move can help boost FY24 GDP growth to beyond 6.5% estimated by the RBI, areportsaid.TherealGDPgrowthfor the first quarter of FY24 will come at 8.1% with an upward bias and the ReserveBankofIndia's6.5%estimate can also be exceeded, economists at thecountry'slargestlenderSBIsaid.

"We expect Q1 FY24 GDP growth at8.1%withanupwardbiasduetothe impact of Rs. 2,000 note withdrawal event...this reinforces our projection

that FY24 GDP could be higher than 6.5%, basis the RBI estimate," a note said.

It can be noted that earlier this month,theRBIinformedthatoverhalf of the currency notes in the denomination have returned back, with 85% of it coming as deposits into banks, while the remaining 15% have been exchanged at bank counters.

Based on this experience, the SBI note saidtheconsumptioncangetaRs.55,000 croreboostbecauseofthemove.

It estimated Rs. 3.08 lakh crore to come back as deposits into the

system, of which Rs. 92,000 crore will come into saving banks accounts, of which 60% will get withdrawn, thus giving an immediate increase in consumption at Rs. 55,000 crore. In the long run, the boost can be Rs. 1.83 lakh crore because of the consumptionmultiplier,itadded.

"One of the major benefits of withdrawal of Rs. 2000 note might be the immediate uptick in consumption demand," the report said. It is expected that high-value amounts could move to high-value spends, accordingtothenote.

India’s Textile & Apparel exports down 11.41% to $5.56 bn in Apr-May

NEW DELHI: India’s textiles and apparel exports have decreased by 11.41 per cent to $5.568 billion in April andMay2023,downfrom$6.722billion during the same period in the previous fiscal. The shipment of textiles and apparel dropped by 12.16 per cent in May 2023, totalling $2.816 billion.

According to the latest trade data released by the Government, the share of textile and apparel in total exports fell to 7.99 per cent in the past two months, compared to 8.54 per cent during the same period lastyear.India’sapparelexportsalso fell by 18.16 per cent to $2.446 billion in April and May 2023, down from $2.989 billion during the correspondingperiodoftheprevious year.

Textile exports dropped from

$3.733 billion to $3.121 billion in the past two months. Among textiles, the exports of cotton yarn, fabrics, madeups, and handloom products decreased by 17.90 per cent to $1.808 billion, down from $2.202 billion. The shipment of man-made yarn, fabric, and made-ups decreased by 10.27 per cent to $788.10 million, down from $878.34 million. Carpet exports fellby14.21percentto$216.42million, and handicrafts (excluding handmade carpets) fell by 21.23 per cent to $245.59 million during the reviewedperiod.

In May 2023, the shipment of textiles and apparel fell by 12.16 per centto$2.816billion,downfrom$3.206 billion. The exports of cotton yarn, fabric,made-ups,handloomproducts, etc, dropped by 11.75 per cent to $920.28 million (down from $1,042.81

million), man-made yarn, fabric, made-ups to $395.16 million (down from $421.75 million), carpets to $111.25 million (down from $127.27 million), and handicrafts excluding handmade carpets to $123.52 million (downfrom$156.49million).

India’s import of raw and waste cotton fell by 30.64 per cent to $103.37 million in April-May 2023, down from $149.03 million during the same period last year. In May 2023, it dropped by 39.81 per cent to $58.07 million from $96.47 million. The exports of textile yarn fabric, made-ups decreased by 14.37 per cent to $349.78 million in the last two months from $408.5 million. The inbound shipment decreased by 11.93 per cent to $188.39 million in May 2023, down from $213.92 million inMay2022.

Uttar Pradesh’s Farm Exports increase 5% to Rs 19,000 crore in FY23

LUCKNOW: Giving a shot in the arm to Uttar Pradesh’s efforts to shore up rural income, the farm exports from the landlocked state increasedtoalmostRs.19,000crorein thefiscalyear2022-23.

The state’s farm export value jumped 5.5 per cent from nearly Rs.18,000crorein2021-22toRs.19,000 crore in 2022-23. The farm exports comprised agricultural and horticultural crops, such as fruits, vegetables, food grains, oilseeds, etc. especially those promoted by the Agricultural and Processed Food Products Export Development Authority(APEDA).

Toeing the line of the Centre, the UPGovernmentistargetingtodouble the farm income by taking a multipronged approach of increasing productivity, yield and acreage, apart fromprovidingaprofitablemarketing

valuechain.

Meanwhile, UP Chief Secretary Durga Shankar Mishra has tasked officialswithdraftinganactionplanto further boost agricultural exports through a consultative mechanism. “UP has a large potential of farm exports, which need a focussed approach to maximise the benefits,” he said, while ordering for promotingdistrictsthatleadthefarm exportstally.

UP produces nearly 21 per cent of the total food grains, 10.8 per cent fruits and 15.4 per cent of the vegetables in India. The agricultural sector contributes more than 25 per cent to the UP Gross State Domesticproduct(GSDP).

Meanwhile, the state has received proposals to set up five agricultural clusters of basmati rice and mango in four districts — Muzaffarnagar,

Meerut,Shamli,andSitapur.

The principal crops grown in UP include wheat, maize, paddy, potato, sugarcane, pulses, oilseeds apart from a range of fruit and vegetable crops.

In UP, the total cultivated area is pegged at 17.7 million hectares (mh), of which the irrigated area is roughly 87 per cent. The state tops in the production of food grains, sugarcane, potato, milk, meat as well as horticultural produce basket. Its share in the national agricultural exportsisabout7.35percent.

In terms of the quantity exported, the state contributes nearly 50 per cent in buffalo meat, 38 per cent wheat, 27 per cent natural honey, 4.12 per cent fresh mangoes, 16 per centinotherfreshfruits,13.31percent indairy,4percentinnon-basmatirice, and3.21percentinbasmatirice.

Joint outcome statement: India-UK round ten FTA negotiations

NEW DELHI: On 09 June 2023, the Republic of India and the United Kingdom concluded the tenth round of talks for an India-UK FTA.

As with previous rounds,

Technical discussions were held across 10 policy areas over

50 separate sessions. They included detailed draft treaty text discussions inthesepolicyareas.

Reliance Industries resumes vessel operation at Sikka Port : Sources

JAMNAGAR : India’s Reliance Industries, operator of world’s biggest refining complex, has resumed vessel operations at the port of Sikka in Jamnagar, Gujarat, industry sources said, as the coastline recovered from the impactofCycloneBiparjoy.

“Any vessel calling the Sikka Ports & Terminals Ltd (STPL)canentertheGulfofKutch,”sourceswhoreceived anoticefromthecompanysaid.

The company had restricted entry of vessels at the port last week “due to unavailability anchorage position.”

At least 13-21 tankers were waiting to discharge crude

oil at port, an industry source said and ship-tracking data showed recently. Several ports in Gujarat had suspended cargo operations last week due to unsafe weather conditionsatsea.

About 2.74 million metric tons (20.12 million barrels) onboard21oiltankerswerewaitingtodischarge,oneofthe sources said, while Refinitiv ship-tracking data showed 12.87 million barrels onboard 13 tankers were waiting to unloadatSikkaport.

Meanwhile, the Astro Chloe discharged 1.9 million barrels of crude oil on Sunday at the port of Vadinar, thesourceaddedandKplerdatashowed.

FIATA President and FFFAI Chairman meet in Mumbai to strengthen collaboration for benefiting the logistics fraternity

during his visit to India to attend the FFFAI Diamond Jubilee event held on June9inNewDelhi.

FFFAI Chairman Mr. Shankar Shinde and other Office Bearers along with EC Members & Board of Advisors discussed various trade related aspects including Government Policy Matters, Infrastructure, IT & Digitization, Skill Development,etcforthebenefitoftheCB & Freight Forwarding community in India.Boththeleadersemphasisedonthelong-standing relationshipbetweenthetwoFederationsandinitiatives for future cooperation pertaining to the members’ benefits.

Dr. Petrov urged for more participation of FFFAI leadership & Members in the multifarious Committees of FIATA and acknowledged the contribution of FFFAI representatives on FIATA committees stating that: FIATA is composed of 109 Association Members Over 6,000 Individual Members. Overall representing a multimodal industry of 40,000 freight forwarding and logistics firms. FIATA advocates for trade facilitation and actively contributes to the functioning of the supply chain through close collaboration with relevant stakeholders.

Dr. Petrov also emphasized the requirements of the individualcompaniesi.e.theindustrystakeholdersfrom the International Federation. According to him, there is a need for an awareness programme to highlight the benefits of individual members/companies who are very importantcomponentsofFIATA.

According to the FIATA President, geopolitical challenges have made it impossible in some global regions to rely on one mode of transport. Seamless integration of different transport modes necessary to provide efficient and sustainable transport solutions. In his opinion, international cooperation, trade agreements and infrastructure development can facilitate connectivity between all transport modes Further stating that regulatory frameworks, customs procedures and infrastructure gaps hinder smooth flow ofgoods.

Presently FIATA works through its Institutes and

Advisory Bodies together with the United Nations divisions (UNCTAD, UNCITRAL, UNESCAP, UNECE and more), the WTO, IRU, UIC, ITC, and others, to facilitate trade, build capacity, and standardise processes.

The FIATA President emphasized on the skill development and role of training institutions. He highly commendedtheinitiativesofFFFAItrainingarmIndian Institute of Freight Forwarders (IIFF), which is impartingtrainingtothefreightforwardingandlogistics fraternitytoexecute FIATADiplomaCourses.

In this regard Dr. Petrov assured FIATA’s support to different wings of FFFAI, especially women’s wing to expandtheirhorizoninternationally.

“FIATA is the voice of small and medium-sized enterprises, and developing countries, helping them to access markets by staying on top of advocacy and policy work,”Dr.Petrovasserted.

FFFAI being the National body representing India at FIATAandholdsvariouspositionsinFIATACommittees to contribute best practices. The FFFAI Chairman Mr. Shankar Shinde felt that the relationship would have to be further strengthened for mutual benefits, interest of the 30 FFFAI Member associations comprising about 6500members.

Mr. Shankar highlighted the recent initiatives of Indian Customs regarding Trade Facilitation & Ease of Doing Business, especially the digital initiatives and Faceless mechanisms, for the larger interest of the export import trade as well as logistics industry. He also pointed out the recent Government initiatives intermsofbuildingcapacityandtrade-friendlypolicies for fast cargo clearance with special mention to PM GatiShaktiMasterPlanandNationalLogisticsPolicy.
