r e l e a s e c o m p r e h e n s i v e guidelines on how private sector participants can use the data and mapping tools offered by the PM Gati Shakti portal to make effective decisions regarding infrastructure and other projects
According to DPIIT Secretary Amardeep Singh Bhatia, several alternatives about how information from the Government-owned portal can be shared with the commercial
s e c t o r a r e b e i n g c o n s i d e r e d . He added that the most secure method of data sharing would be to provide data based on questions posed by the private sector for a project. On Saturday, the Government declared its intention to make some of the maps and data from the PM Gati Shakti portal available to the commercial sector This move may a i d i n t h e d e v e l o p m e n t o f infrastructure-based applications and the optimization of last-mile delivery services.

N E W D E L H I : T h e b u d g e t declaration to establish Bharat Trade Net as a single platform for trade documentation and finance solutions is an ambitious aim, and a non-profit organization is planned to carry out this project According to Director General of Foreign Trade (DGFT) Santosh Kumar Saranagi, the platform, which is modeled after the Unified Payments Interface (UPI), will aid in the transition to f u l l d i g i t i z a t i o n o f a l l t r a d e documentation and subsequently enable smooth operation of the various agencies involved.
Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman has said in the Budget speech that this will be set up as a u n i f i e d p l a t f o r m f o r t r a d e documentation and financing solutions and it will complement the Unified Logistics Interface Platform. These agencies include RBI, CBIC, banking systems, multiple shipping
lines, ports and airports.
At present, there are about 30 entities that are involved in trade documentation and financing arrangement and each one of them has its own portal and systems and the exporter or importer has to fill up about 5,000 odd data points when it navigates through different trade and finance ecosystems.
The BharatTradeNet would enable the digitisation of over 30 trade documents, such as Bills of Lading, P romissor y Notes, for secure electronic issuance, transfer, and storage, where required. Exporters and importers would be major beneficiaries as the platform would help in getting faster clearances and export credit access. Besides, other segments that would benefit from the move included banks and NBFCs as they would get real-time trade finance data.
It will help convert critical trade
documents like Bills of Lading, Letters of Credit, and Customs Declarations into secure digital formats; ensure real-time, secure data sharing between exporters, banks, regulatory authorities, and global trade networks; and help MSMEs (micro, small and medium enterprises) and exporters access loans and credit by integrating financial institutions into the system.
Besides, it would help automate compliance with global standards like UNCITRAL MLETR (United Nations Commission on International Trade Law Model Law on Electronic Transferable Records), and UNECE ( U n i t e d N a t i o n s E c o n o m i c Commission for Europe), ensuring smooth international transactions
The absence of uniform development s t a n d a r d s l e a d s t o d u p l i c i t y, inefficiencies, and higher efforts as entities adopt disparate approaches.
NEW DELHI : India's exports of fruits and vegetables have witnessed a significant surge of 47.3 per cent in volume between the financial years 2019-20 and 2023-24, according to the Ministry of Commerce & Industry.

It provides financial aid for setting up essential export facilities such as packhouses with grading and packing lines, pre-cooling units, cold storage, refrigerated transportation, and treatment facilities like irradiation, vapor heat treatment, and hot water dip treatment This infrastructure helps ensure that exported fruits and vegetables meet international quality standards.
To enhance product quality,

using handheld devices to track farm-level data. This also includes testing for water, soil, and pesticide residues to meet the stringent requirements of importing countries. In the financial year 2023-24, India's fresh fruits and vegetables were exported to 123 countries Over the last three years, Indian produce has entered 17 new markets, including Brazil, Georgia, Uganda, Papua New Guinea, the Czech Republic, and Ghana.

Govt framing schemes under Export Promotion Mission for Exporters
NEW DELHI: The Government is framing schemes for MSME exporters to provide credit at easy terms, promote alternate financing instrument through strengthening factoring services for them, and offer assistance to deal with non-tariff measures imposed by other countries, an official said on Tuesday.
The commerce, MSME and finance ministries are working on these schemes, Director General of Foreign Trade (DGFT) Santosh Kumar Sarangi said
These schemes are being formulated under the export promotion mission, announced in the Union Budget for 2025-26 The schemes are expected to be rolled out in about 4-5 months, he said. The government on February 1 announced the setting up of an Export Promotion Mission with an outlay of Rs 2,250 crore to promote the country’s outbound shipments

Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman has said through the mission, the government will facilitate exporters to get easy access to credit, cross-border factoring support, and support MSMEs to tackle nontariff measures in overseas markets. Sarangi said that promoting factoring services would help reduce the dependence of exporters on banks.
Export factoring services, a widely used financing instrument globally, have low adoption in India due to high factoring costs involving higher rates of interest, higher risk premiums and lack of parity with subvention schemes The cross-border factoring should attain a certain scale to reach about 3 per cent of merchandise exports (in line with the global average)
MBK Logistix to start new shipping service linking DBGT with Malaysia’s Port Klang
TUTICORIN: MBK Logistix Pvt Ltd will start a fortnightly Container Shipping Service linking Dakshin Bharat Gateway Terminal Pvt Ltd (DBGT) at V O Chidambaranar Port in Tamil Nadu with Port Klang in Malaysia.
The first sailing on the new service will start on February 5 with M V Hong Jia 21, a container ship owned by Shanghai-based Ocean Salute Shipping, an official said.
Bollore Africa Logistics owns 49 percent stake in Dakshin Bharat Gateway Terminal, one of the two container terminals operating at State-owned V O Chidambaranar Port (V O C Port) India Ports and Logistics Pvt Ltd holds the majority 51 percent stake in the terminal.
India Ports and Logistics, in turn, is 51 per cent owned by Star Ports Ltd, a unit of Mumbai-listed Starlog Enterprises Ltd (earlier known as ABG Infralogistics Ltd), with Bollore Africa Logistics — Africa’s biggest transport and logistics operator — holding the balance stake.
Between April and December 2024, DBGT handled 653,852 twenty-foot equivalent units (TEUs) at an average of 55,000 TEUs a month.
DBGT has a water depth of 14.2 metres and a capacity to load 7,20,000 TEUs a year

As global shipping majors eye shipbuilding orders from India, Centre pushes for policy to ramp-up yards, set up new clusters
NEW DELHI: With shipping majors including MSC –one of the largest players globally – expressing interest to explore shipbuilding and ship-breaking activities in India, the Ministry of Ports, Shipping and Waterways has decided to speed-up on a $ 2 – 3 billion (roughly Rs. 16,000 crore) policy push aimed at modernising, ramping-up and if necessary, setting up of ship-building yards. Funding details are being worked out, sources in the know said
In maritime parlance, shipbuilding yards are facilities where new ships are constructed. They have large dry docks, basins for assembling the hulls, and workshops for building and installing ship components.
“Shipyard modernisation is the third part of the strategy, beyond Maritime Development Fund and SBFAP 2.0,” the official said.
The Mediterranean Shipping Company (MSC) has already been in preliminary talks for setting up a greenfield shipbuilding and repair yard and is reportedly exploring partnerships. Mostly it is exploring locations in Gujarat, Ministry sources said.
“Major players like MSC (Mediterranean Shipping Company) have expressed interest for shipbuilding orders Some other European companies – from France and Denmark too are keen on exploring opportunities here And we found, there are capacity-issues at the Staterun ship-building yards If a MSC was to place orders, for say 50- 60 ships, that level of capacity or expertise is not here And this has prompted for a policy rework and push,” the official said.

The policy will look to push for capacity expansion, tech upgrade and skilling of workforce at shipbuilding yards, and promote setting up of shipping clusters in select coastal States – Andhra Pradesh and Odisha – among others
“Shipbuilding clusters”, which found a mention in the Budget, will be facilitated to increase the range, categories and capacity of ships. This will include additional infrastructure facilities, skilling and technology to develop the entire ecosystem.
Recently, Shipping Ministry officials visited Asian nations – South Korea and Japan – to bring in investments for shipbuilding. Players from both countries visited India to explore shipbuilding yard arrangements and the prospect of investing. Some of them are expected to visit India again in the next 30-odd days.
Beyond land, which is a State subject, the Ministry is looking to incentivise or help push for additional capex for providing for breakwaters, and so on. In shipping parlance, a ‘breakwater’ refers to man-made structures built off-shore to protect harbours, anchorages and coastline from sea water level surge (tides, etc). It also allows ships to safely manoeuvre and dock.
Already, a Maritime Development Fund – with a Rs. 25,000-crore corpus – has been announced, while phaseII of the Shipbuilding Financial Assistance Policy (SBFA 2.0) with a Rs. 18,000-crore outlay, is awaiting Cabinet nod.
