Govt increases duty refunds to Exporters despite of approaching Global recession

NEW DELHI: The Budget has increased the duty refunds to exporters, amid a looming global recession.The allocation under Remission of Duties and Taxes on Export Products (RoDTEP) scheme has been raised 10 per cent to Rs 15,069 crore in the next financial year from Rs 13,699 crore in2022-23.

Finance Minister Smt Nirmala SitharamanhasalsohikedtheRebate ofStateandCentralTaxesandLevies (RoSCTL) — a similar scheme for garments and made-ups — by 12 per cent to Rs 8,405 crore from Rs 7,461 crore. Both the schemes aim to refund exporters the embedded non-creditablecentral,stateandlocal leviespaidoninputs.

In RoDTEP, the increase is mainly on account of acknowledged “anomalies” in 432 products disoveredrecently.

Underthescheme,exportersused to get refunds in the range of 0.3 per cent to 4.3 per cent of the freight-onboardvalueofexports.

The Commerce Ministry has expanded the scope of RoDTEP by including sectors such as steel, pharmaceuticals and chemicals from December 15. The scheme will be reviewed in September: to gauge any calibration in the RoDTEP benefits is warranted to keep the offtake within the budgeted amount for FY24, officialssaid.

The budget has also increased the allocationfortheinterestequalisation scheme by nearly a fourth to Rs 2,932 crorein2023-24fromRs2,376crorein 2022-23. The scheme provides subsidies for pre- and post-shipment export credit and mostly covers labour-intensivesectors.

The budget has also increased the funds under the market access

initiative (MAI) to Rs 200 crore in 2023-24fromRs160crorein2022-23.

A. Sakthivel, President, Federation of Indian Export Organisations (FIEO), said the allocation under MAI may not be adequate. A greater allocation will ensure more exporters can participate in global trade shows, which need to be exploited more intensively.

“A planned scheme for aggressive overseas marketing may be notified with a sizeable corpus to encourage exporterstoshowcaseglobally.”

Merchandise exports shrank 12.2percentinDecemberfromayear ago, the second contraction in three months because of a slowdown in demand in the wake of aggressive ratehikesbymajorcentralbanks.

MoS Commerce : UP Govt’s new Warehousing & Logistics Policy will encourage private sectors

LUCKNOW: Union Minister of State for Commerce and Industry Smt Anupriya Patel, recently, praisedtheeffortsofUttarPradeshin achieving the national target of reducinglogisticscosts.

Speaking at a session titled Uttar Pradesh- ‘The emerging warehousingandlogistichubofIndia’ Union Minister said, “The Central and State Governments are working as one unit. According to Prime MinisterShriNarendraModi’svision, the UP Government’s new warehousing and logistics policy will encourage the private sector. The private sector should take full advantageofthisopportunity.”

On the third day of the Global InvestorsSummit,theUnionMinister said that at present, the logistics cost in the Country is 14% of the GDP, which will rise to around 8% by the year2030.

She further stated, “As the world’s 5th largest economy, India aspires to be among the top ten in the Logistics Performance Index by 2030. We will achieve our goal if the government of UP, the country’s largest state, continues to improve its warehousing andlogisticsinfrastructure.

Union Minister of State for Commerce and Industry, Shri Som Prakash, also presented his views in thespecialsession.

EEPC : Gujarat engineering exports grew by 7% in April to December

AHMEDABAD : The engineering sector in Gujarat saw exports grow despite negative global factors such as high inflation and the UkraineRussiawar.

The Indian engineering industry registeredexportsworth$69billionin April to December 2022, about 7% higher than the same period of the previousyear.

Experts say machinery demand has risen and has driven this growth. Gujarat accounts for around 36% of India’s engineering exports, according to data from the Engineering Exports Promotion Council(EEPC).

“The Indian engineering sector has good credentials in terms of quality, and we are thus growing even in a time of global inflation and the Russia-Ukraine war. The engineering industry in Gujarat reported exports worth $25 billion in the first nine monthsofthecurrentfinancialyear.”

According to EEPC, from April to December 2021, Indian engineering exports were worth $64 billion, and grew by 7.8% to $69 billion in April-December 2022.

However, December exports registeredadecreaseofabout3%.

Patel said, “Demand for chemical plant machinery, textiles and pharma machinery has remained high in the international and domestic markets. Demand from Russia increased for last year because Russian buyers have stopped purchasing from Europe and all their orders have divertedtoIndia.”

Dredging Corporation posts highest Q3 turnover of Rs 372 Cr

NEW DELHI: Dredging Corporation of India Limited (DCIL) has posted its highest ever third quarter turnover of Rs. 372.30 crore since inception for the financial year 2022-23. It has clocked a profit of Rs. 13.84 crore by reporting a turnaround performance. The EarningPerShare(EPS)isatRs4.94.

The Earnings before Interest, Taxes, Depreciation and Amortization (EBIDTA) for the 3rd Quarter is at Rs 62.08 crore as

Jan e-way bill generation ebbs from peak but still robust

NEW DELHI: Generation of electronic permits in January for goods shipment within and across states came off the peak seen at the end of the fiscal third quarter but remained above 82.4 million, official data showed, indicating that the New Year has started off with robust economicactivity.

E-way bill generation in January is a notch below the 84.1 million seen in December, but it is the third straight month of remaining above 80 million andhigherthanthe68.8millionseenin January last year. Early e-way bill trendinthelastquarterofthefinancial yearpointstothepossibilityofrevenue collectionsremainingstrong.

Another high-frequency indicator, the seasonally-adjusted S&P Global India Manufacturing Purchasing Managers’ Index (PMI), showed earlier this month that manufacturing activity in the country recordedthe19thsuccessivemonthly improvement in operating conditions in January. Despite falling from the high of 57.8 in December, the manufacturing PMI figure remained aboveitslong-runaverage,backedby demand resilience and favourable economic conditions supporting sales. PMI is based on a survey, while e-way bills generation is based on actual supplies that require transportation.

Experts found e-way bill data as a pointer to a healthy fourth quarter. “The GST e-way bill numbers are very enthusing. These should signal a pickup in economic activity in the current quarter. The base, however, might be somewhat constrained on account of the onset of the third wave of the coronavirus pandemic in January 2022,” said Aditi Nayar, Chief EconomistatratingagencyIcraLtd.

The Government has assumed a growth of about 12% in GST revenue collections in FY24. Going by that, the average monthly GST receipts in FY24 could be in the range of ₹1.68 trillion, a Senior Government Officialsaidonconditionofanonymity.

The memorandum of understanding concerns establishing a closer business relationship between the La Poste subsidiary GeoPost and CEVA Logistics, a subsidiary of the CMA CGM Group, by capitalizing on their respective expertise, services and areas of operationinparceldelivery,transportationandstorage.

Agreement between two leading names offering high-qualityservices

The CMA CGM Group and the La Poste Group have developed industry-leading expertise in logistics and transportation through their respective subsidiaries CEVALogisticsandGeoPost.

GeoPost is one of the leading names in Europe in parcel delivery to businesses and individuals, with an extensiveEuropeanparceldeliverynetwork.Itdelivered 2.1billionparcelsworldwidein2021thankstoitsnetwork of over 1,200 hubs and depots, more than 86,000 vehicles andmorethan120,000deliveryexpertsaroundtheworld.

With 1,300 sites and operations in 170 countries, CEVA Logistics offers contract logistics, freight forwarding and medium- and long-haul road transportationservicesaroundtheworld.

Sustainablelogisticssolutions

In order to improve the quality and competitiveness of services provided for their respective customers, the agreement also includes looking to develop new circular economyandurbanlogisticsservicesinFranceandEurope

The two companies will investigate ways of reducing the carbon impact of their customers’ deliveries, including low-carbon urban deliveries. The CMA CGM Groupisaimingtoreachnetzeroby2050.Deliveriesfrom La Poste Group have been carbon neutral since 2012; it measures each parcel’s carbon footprint and aims to reduce it as much as possible and offset any remaining emissions, all with a view to cutting its carbon emissions perparcelby30%between2013and2025.
