FAIR DAYS 1940-1949

Sanpete County Won’t Have Fair This Year Aug. 27, 1948 — There will be no Sanpete county fair this year. That is the decision of the county commission, according to Dr. S.B. Rigby of Fairview, chairman. Ordinarily conducted in the early fall at Manti, the fair has been temporarily abandoned this year, said Dr. Rigby, because funds available to not appear to be sufficient. Under state law, Sanpete county is allowed to levy annually approximately $1,800 for county fair expenses, he explained. Of this amount $400 is granted outright to the annual Rambouillet Days celebration at Ephraim and an additional $200 goes for maintenance of the fair grounds at Manti. This leaves approximately $1200 for expenditure on a county fair. At first, it looked as if county civic clubs, specifically those in Manti, might undertake sponsorship of a rodeo in conjunction with this year’s county fair, Dr. Rigby said, but that plan was later dropped. He said Manti civic leaders have promised to take the initiative in planning a county fair for next year.
