Thirteen vie for Miss Sanpete County

Aug. 12, 1998 — MANTI—The Miss Sanpete County Scholarship Pageant will be held Saturday, Aug. 15, at 7:30 p.m. in the Manti High School Auditorium. Thirteen girls will be competing.

The mistress of ceremonies are: Katie Anderson, reigning Miss Sanpete County, and Holly Lynn Holman, Miss Utah Valley and attendant to Miss Utah.

This year’s theme is “Tropical Heat Wave.” Tickets are available at the county treasurer’s office or at the door.

Those competing are:

Karen Bartholomew, daughter of Richard and Sherry Bartholomew, Ephraim, will be performing a ballet solo entitled “Murron.”

Michelle Barton, daughter of Douglas and Marianne Barton, Manti, will be performing a vocal solo called, “Journey to the Past.”

Jacey Crane, daughter of Jim and Teri Crane, Mayfield, will be presenting a vocal solo titled “Hero.”

Holly Dawn Davis, daughter of Robert and Rhonda Davis, Fountain Green, will perform a vocal solo entitled “The Trolley Song.”

Brook Lynne Earl, daughter of Larry and Dixie Earl, Fairview, will play the piano solo “Solfigietto.”

Mindy Janelle Evans, daughter of Ryan and Deena Evans, Manti, will dance a clogging routine entitled, “What Do I Care?”

June Fore, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Paul Fore, Ephraim, will be performing a piano solo entitled, “One Man’s Dream.”

Shallan Mendenhall, daughter of Russel and Terry Mendenhall, Ephraim, will be performing a ballet solo titled, “Schindler’s List.”

Janey Ann Petersen, daughter of Jim and Janice Petersen, Manti, will perform a power tumbling routine to the music “Wannabe.”

Kelli Sargent, daughter of Jack and Shauna Sargent, Manti, will perform a dance solo entitled, “Together Again.”

Mandi Steele, daughter of Don and Lori Hardy, Mt. Pleasant, will present a comic reading “Take Me Out to the Ball Game.”

Tiffany Sunderland, daughter of Scott and Cathy Sunderland, Chester, will play a piano selection entitled “Taratella.”

Karalyn Thorsen, daughter of Steve and Esther Thorsen, Manti, will be performing a piano solo, “Scotch Poem.”

1994 Junior Princess Royalty

Serving as Sanpete County’s Junior Princess Royalty in 1994 were Hayley Palmer, Alana Kogianes and Priscilla Terry.

Cowboy poetry to be featured at County Fair

Aug. 13, 1997 — MANTI—Cowboy Poetry will be a featured attraction again this year during the Sanpete County Fair at 2 p.m., Friday, Aug. 22 in the grandstand of the Fair Grounds.

Confirmed guests include cowboy poets, Don Morris and West Peterson from Delta, who present homespun humor and cowboy stories.

New presenters include Rick Howe telling stories of the “Fighting Rooster,” and Ross Nordell and his “Cowboy and the Computer.” Returning poets, Sam DeLeeuw and Joe Frischknecht will add their special flare to the program, along with several other true-life cowboy poets.

The free public program is sponsored by the Sanpete County Fairboard, which promotes the fair as a family activity and tries to make as many activities as possible available to the public.
