Food & Beverage
One of the Food & Beverage Team’s ongoing goals is to deliver outstanding service. Our reservation system has shown a marked improvement on Friday nights, and the member dining experience is getting smoother. More Members are making reservations and honoring them by being seated at the time of their reservation.
We would ask if you wish to have cocktails and hors d’oeuvres before dinner, please plan to arrive 30-40 minutes earlier than your requested reservation time. This allows the team to offer a smooth evening to all Members and guests and lets the staff in both the front and back of the house properly prepare.
We appreciate and will always try to accommodate our walk-in guests as best we can in a timely manner; however, priority will always be given to those who make reservations and those who call ahead to ask about seating availability. Just as great restaurants do, we strive to pace our Members and guests for a better flow of service. This improves the timing in the kitchen and minimizes delays. We strive to exceed your expectations and appreciate your support.
Service Charge Reminder
The Club’s service charge is 20%; however, for extraordinary service, you may add an additional tip under the “Extra Tip” category. Bon Appetit!

Commodore’s Corner
May is shaping up to be an exciting month at CRYC!
With the opening of The Pointe on the horizon, there’s a buzz of anticipation in the air. This expansion provides a wonderful opportunity to welcome New Members into the community. It’s fantastic to hear that interest in membership is growing daily, as mentioned by Membership Director Tami Lawlor. With the completion of construction drawing near, now is the perfect time to extend invitations to friends to join before initiation fees potentially increase. By joining now, New Members can take advantage of all the fantastic amenities The Pointe has to offer from the get-go.
We anticipate the general contractor turning the building over to us later this month. With amenities like pickleball and a basketball half court that also serves as an area for Kids’ Club activities, there’s something for everyone to enjoy. The area on the north side offers a versatile space for various activities, including a fire pit with views of the Intracoastal Waterway which is sure to be a favorite spot for relaxation. The dining area is spacious and accommodating, with the retractable awning providing a welcome respite from the Florida sun.

Let’s not forget about the bar area! With multiple televisions and beer taps, it’s the perfect place to catch up on sporting events while enjoying a drink with friends. Plus, the grab-andgo oasis by the pool adds convenience for Members looking to refuel without straying too far from the water. Overall, The Pointe has everything to ensure a fantastic experience for our Members.
Expanding membership during this exciting time ensures that more people can enjoy the benefits and experiences that CRYC has to offer. So spread the word, and let your friends know that there’s never been a better time to become part of the CRYC family before we are on a waiting list!
Best regards,
T.Fred Roche CommodoreAs we move into the warmer months, please remember our dress code and hat policies as they pertain to the Clubhouse. Hats, caps, or visors are not allowed to be worn inside the Clubhouse (even if you are walking through to the patios or pool deck). However, you can wear hats on the Auxiliary and Burgee Patios. Appropriate bathing suits and cover-ups for ladies and similar for gentlemen and children are permitted on the Auxiliary Patio and, of course, the pool deck dining tables. (No cheeky bottoms or sheer/fishnet cover-ups are permitted.) Please make sure to share the dress code with your family and friends when bringing them to the Club to prevent any awkward situations.

From The Desk Of Your General Manager
Dear CRYC Members:
As we sail into May, let’s take a moment to reflect on the host of events that were held this past month. Each gathering and celebration deepened the importance of our membership, fostering connections and delivering unforgettable memories.
EasterSunday had an epic turnout. I could not be prouder of the entire staff for delivering, on all fronts, to more than 600 Members and their loved ones. The Decades Party, “Reeling intheYears,” was a resounding success, with more than 100 Members embracing nostalgia and dancing the night away to the tunes of the ‘60s, ‘70s, and ‘80s. Boys,Bourbon, andBrisket Night Out provided a chance for some camaraderie, cigars, bourbon tasting, and relaxation among the boys of our Club.
Looking ahead to May, join us on May 4th for our Kentucky Derby Party, where elegance and tradition meet in a celebration of horse racing and Southern hospitality. On May 5th, immerse yourself in the vibrant flavors and sounds of our Cinco de Mayo Fiesta, complete with a live mariachi band, refreshing margarita specials.
Mark your calendars for the Air Dot Show on Saturday, May 11th, promising adrenaline-pumping excitement for the whole family. Now to the which ties most families together. It’s all about MOM this month! Treat MOM or any other special women in your life to an exquisite Mother’s Day Brunch on May 12th, featuring decadent culinary creations. We promise it will be a day to remember.

Are you ready for a night of laughter and friendly rivalry? Then put on your thinking caps and compete for glory during our Trivia Night with Tami on May 23rd. Then on Memorial Day Weekend, as we pay tribute to the brave men and women who have served our country, let’s come together for a weekend filled with fun events and activities leading up to the always favorite BBQon Monday, May 27th, from 12-4 PM.

Excitement is brewing as we witness the transformation of The Pointe, promising new horizons and experiences directly on the Intracoastal. Now is the perfect time to extend a warm welcome to family and friends, inviting them to share in the charm and camaraderie which defines our Club. For those interested in joining our vibrant community, our Membership & Marketing Director, Tami Lawlor, is on deck to provide further information.
Coming soon, new CRYC merchandise! Our super shopper Johanna has been busy curating some great new apparel and accessories perfect for your summer traveling.
In closing, your feedback is always truly valued. Please join me on Friday, May 10th, at 12:00 PM for a monthly lunch and my ongoing invitation to “Noon with Nadine.” Limited to six Members (once per calendar year) per lunch. Please make a reservation with the Front Desk. Enjoy the express lunch buffet with my compliments. Cocktails will be by Member signature. Learn more about our Club operations, gain a deeper understanding of what goes on behind the scenes, or just come by to chat. Additionally, if there is anything you would like to share, please stop by and see me, leave a comment card online, send an email or call me directly.
See you at the Club!

Auxiliary
The reception to Auxiliary’s rich variety of programming has been simply wonderful! A big “Thank you” goes out to Catarina Lopes of the Cornell Lab of Ornithology in Ithaca, NY, for last month’s presentation. Her topic, “All About Birds,” was as entertaining as it was informative, to the delight of the large crowd in attendance.
We close our formal season on May 8th, when we feature Tom Swick, travel writer for the Sun Sentinel. With so many avid travelers among us, we anticipate another large turnout. Please be sure to mark this on your calendar, and make your reservation.
Auxiliary then goes into summer mode when we hold casual lunches without speakers. Though many of us are away, those who remain local can still meet and enjoy each other’s company.
Please join me in extending a warm welcome to our newest member, Kathy Polansky. If you have not yet joined, please contact Jodi Dumas at jodidumas@outlook.com or 610- 417-3855.
Sincerely yours,
Ellen Landauer Publicity/Secretary

Reeling In The Years Decades Party

CRYC Sailing & Watersports Foundation
I have a lot to report in this writing. The PartywithaPurpose on March 23 was an enormous success financially as well as an outstanding evening with many highlights. A huge thank you to the staff and chef for an amazing dinner and impeccable service. We exceeded all expectations in every respect. For those of you who noticed our 2024 donation thermometer at the entrance to the Clubhouse, we have already reached 75% of our goal for the year.
Thank you to all who attended the party, those who were unable to attend but were so generous with your contributions, and those who donated and purchased our silent auction items and supported us every step of the way. Some of the highlights of the evening included auctioning the brass chandelier that hung over the Burgee Bar for so many years. One of our Members purchased this great piece of CRYC memorabilia and I am sure will enjoy it for many years. We also displayed two painted OPTI Sails, one of which was painted by our very own participants in the sailing program. Our sailors were directed by Artist Christopher Kram and Table # 1 made a very generous donation to purchase the sail and donated it to CRYC for future display. The other Sail, which was painted by Christopher, was displayed and auctioned at the April 11 event at the Club, which I hope you enjoyed as well.
One of the items on our wish list was an additional Boston Whaler Coache’s Boat. I am pleased to report that one of our very generous board Members donated the boat to the Foundation. Our annual fundraising Epicurean Dinner which we announced at the Party with a Purpose, is already sold out. As always, our silent auction provided lots of fun for participants and generous donations to the foundation. It’s been a while coming, but our TEAM FOUNDATION
DONORS PLAQUE is finally installed at the entrance to the Clubhouse. We are very proud to display the names of those of you who have supported our efforts for the Club and community. Since it has been up, I have had requests from Members to be included. If you are interested, we would love to have you join the team.

We are hard at work preparing for the 2024 Sailing Program where we we will again partner with the City of Ft. Lauderdale and the Lauderdale Yacht Club Foundation. Our Activities Director Donna Wagoner can fill you in on details and availability. Our Board Members have not only been generous with their contributions and time but also spend a lot of time maintaining and preparing the fleet for our programs. On behalf of the Foundation Board, we thank you for your continued support.
Bob Epstein, President - CRYC Sailing and Watersports Foundation

CRYC Cruisers
Dear Cruisers and Members All,
Meredith Campbell, Katy Carter, and I are excited to invite you to join us for our InauguralDayTrippersEvent,“NoBoat, NoProblem,” on Sunday, May 26th, from 12-4. Whether you are a boat owner or not, we have something special planned for everyone.
We will be anchored out in Sunrise Bay to the north of the Club, and, if you do not own a boat but would like to participate, we will ensure you are set up on a vessel for the day. For those with smaller vessels who wish to join in, please reach out to Meredith Campbell at meredithroycampbell@gmail.com. The event will feature games, floats, paddle boards, and a pontoon boat ready to take Members to the tie-up. All are welcome, and we are looking for a few “flagship” boats to be the main anchor. The event is BYOB and food, but boxed lunches from the Club can be ordered if desired.
For families interested in attending, Families Committee Member Katy Carter will help organize kids who would like to come out. Please reach out to katykcarter@yahoo.com for more information.
If you are interested in participating in this event or future Day Trippers events, please fill out this form: https://form.jotform. com/240867976259072
In February, Key Biscayne Yacht Club was a smash hit! We cannot thank Ramona Fowler enough for providing us all with an absolutely wonderful evening at KBYC which didn’t stop there! St. Patrick’s Day was celebrated on Mystic Star. Guests adorned in green arrived on their dinghies to enjoy fun, food, and folly. Even the water surrounding Mystic Star was green!
In April, Margaret Engkvist hosted an amazing weekend at Faro Blanco in Marathon. Docktails and delicious bites were enjoyed by the setting sun, followed by a champagne breakfast and a trip to The Turtle Hospital. A fabulous time was had by all!

Cape Canaveral is another destination that is shaping up. I cannot reiterate it more… This is for everyone! The Kennedy Space Center is where one can share the wonders of the universe with kids in tow along to meet an astronaut! Again… Drive, Float, or Fly. It can be a weekend trip or go with us as we make our way up there by boat!

Friday Colors at CRYC
Observing Colors is a time-honored ceremony adopted by the US Navy in 1843.
Service members and civilians take part in this long-standing tradition to reflect on the sacrifices of the women and men who devoted their lives to protect our nation’s shores from foes. To many, this custom is rooted in a sense of deep pride and is a symbol of admiration.
1. Approximately ten minutes before sunset, as calculated by the Fleet Captain, the word is passed “First call, first call to color.” The honor guard of the day will form near the point of hoist of the ensign. At that time, there will be no services provided by the CRYC and its staff, including the bars, until after the conclusion of Colors and the ensign has been presented to the proper authority.
2. Immediately before sunset, “Attention” is sounded by one horn blast, blown on a whistle, or eight bells is sounded. ALL PERSONS, INCLUDING CHILDREN, within sight or hearing, face the ensign, remove their head gear, place their right hand over their heart and STAND AT ATTENTION and REMAIN SILENT unless singing the National Anthem. Boats in the vicinity lie to, or proceed at the slowest possible speed, and the boat officer or coxswain stands and salutes.

3. The order “Execute” is then given: the cannon will be fired, and the ensign is lowered slowly. The National Anthem or “To the Colors” (Retreat) will be played with the ensign starting down the staff.
4. When the ensign is completely lowered, folded, and presented to the proper authority, the word is passed “Carry on,” at which time, salutes are terminated, and the ceremony is over.
Congressional Defense Authorization Act of 2009, which President Bush signed on October 14, 2009, entitles retired or former military members in civilian to render the hand salute.
Let’s show our pride and respect at CRYC and abide by proper flag etiquette. Flag etiquette reminder: All yacht ensigns should also be struck (taken down and removed) at sunset until the following day.

Family Activities
Dear Members,
As we approach the month of May, a special time of the year dedicated to honoring and celebrating motherhood, we want to take a moment to acknowledge and appreciate all forms of motherhood within our community. Motherhood comes in many different shapes and sizes, and each and every one of them deserves to be celebrated.
Whether you are a biological mother, an adoptive mother, a fur baby mother, a stepmother, a foster mother, a grandmother, or play a motherly role in someone’s life, we want to honor and recognize the incredible love, dedication, and sacrifices that you make every day.
Motherhood is a journey filled with joy, challenges, and immeasurable rewards, and we want to celebrate and support each and every one of you.
To commemorate this special occasion, we are delighted to invite all Members and their families to join us at the Club for a memorable Mother’s Day brunch celebration. On Sunday, May 12, we will be hosting an amazing brunch spread inside followed by fun family time by the pool. This will be a perfect opportunity to come together as a community, relax, and enjoy quality time with your loved ones.
Jackie Cornish

We encourage you to bring your mothers, grandmothers, and all the special women in your life who have played a significant role in your journey of motherhood. This event is a wonderful opportunity to show them how much they mean to you and to express your gratitude for their unconditional love and support.

Where Is Our Burgee?

Construction CORNER

Work on The Pointe is in high gear. All roofing has been installed, the retractable awning is in, floor tile is in, and the dining area lighting and the tongue and groove soffit are in. Exterior paving and the northeast corner retaining wall have been installed, and the building has been painted. Near-term events include landscaping, kitchen equipment install, bar equipment install, lowvoltage systems, millwork, one more underground boring line, and bathroom completion. Electrical power to the building should be energized in the first week of May, which will enable the final installations and systems checks to be performed.

Book Club
Our final book for this season is The Book of Lost Names by Kristin Harmel. Please join our facilitator, Barbara Kinnear, on Friday, May 10th, for a fascinating, heart-rending page turner about the resilience of the human spirit and the power of bravery and love in the face of evil.
The Book of Lost Names was inspired by an astonishing true story from World War II of individuals with the talent to forge documents in order that hundreds of Jewish children were able to flee the Nazis. Eva Traube Abrams was a graduate student in Paris in 1942. She escaped to a small mountain town in France and began forging identity documents for Jewish children fleeing to neutral Switzerland. In order to preserve the real names of the children who were too young to remember who they really were, she developed a code which only Eva could answer.
Please make reservations at the front desk, and, at that time, make your lunch selection from the variety of sandwiches (egg salad, tuna salad, or chicken salad) on white, wheat, or rye bread. The Club menu is also available. Lunch is promptly at 12 noon when the book discussion begins.
