Food & Beverage
One of the Food & Beverage Team’s ongoing goals is to deliver outstanding service. Our reservation system has shown a marked improvement on Friday nights, and the member dining experience is getting smoother. More Members are making reservations and honoring them by being seated at the time of their reservation.
We would ask if you wish to have cocktails and hors d’oeuvres before dinner, please plan to arrive 30-40 minutes earlier than your requested reservation time. This allows the team to offer a smooth evening to all Members and guests and lets the staff in both the front and back of the house properly prepare.
We appreciate and will always try to accommodate our walk-in guests as best we can in a timely manner; however, priority will always be given to those who make reservations and those who call ahead to ask about seating availability. Just as great restaurants do, we strive to pace our Members and guests for a better flow of service. This improves the timing in the kitchen and minimizes delays. We strive to exceed your expectations and appreciate your support.
Service Charge Reminder
The Club’s service charge is 20%; however, for extraordinary service, you may add an additional tip under the “Extra Tip” category. Bon Appetit!

Commodore’s Corner
CRYC has had a fantastic spring season, and there’s a lot to look forward to as summer approaches! The final touches are being completed on the new Pointe, and the grand opening is expected soon. The annual Air Show event was celebrated at the Club with front row seats to all the excitement. A sold-out Mother’s Day event followed with beautiful decorations and food. We exited May with a wonderful Memorial Day event for everyone.
Some Members have been asking about the CRYC burgee. The original burgee was designed over 70 years ago in the coral and teal colors. There is no plan to change that historic burgee. Maintaining the historic CRYC burgee, while offering variations for clothing and merchandise, is a way to honor tradition while also catering to modern preferences. You will see some variations of the burgee colors when applied to clothing or other merchandise offered in our Yacht Shop. Show your Club loyalty by flying our burgee!
Membership has seen an increase in New Member inquiries as the construction wraps up. The word is out that we will be planning an increase in the initiation fee to keep pace with surrounding private clubs. We intentionally held back on any increases during our construction process. Now is the time to bring in friends as new members before the price goes up

and the possibility of a wait list grows. We have extended the member referral program for June to encourage all of us to invite like-minded friends to join.
Managing events that cater to the diverse demographics of Members can indeed be challenging, but you should know that there’s an Entertainment Committee in place to consider all ideas. We encourage Members to submit their event suggestions for consideration as a proactive way to ensure everyone feels involved. There is an Entertainment Committee, headed by Rear Commodore Cassell, comprised of many Fellow Members. Please feel free to write down your ideas and email them for consideration. Next year’s planning will be discussed during the second half of 2024 so don’t wait!
On behalf of Marybeth and I, we hope you have a wonderful summer!
Best regards,
T. Fred Roche
CommodoreAs we move into the warmer months, please remember our dress code and hat policies as they pertain to the Clubhouse. Hats, caps, or visors are not allowed to be worn inside the Clubhouse (even if you are walking through to the patios or pool deck). However, you can wear hats on the Auxiliary and Burgee Patios. Appropriate bathing suits and cover-ups for ladies and similar for gentlemen and children are permitted on the Auxiliary Patio and, of course, the pool deck dining tables. (No cheeky bottoms or sheer/fishnet cover-ups are permitted.) Please make sure to share the dress code with your family and friends when bringing them to the Club to prevent any awkward situations.

From The Desk Of Your General Manager
Dear CRYC Members:
With many of our snowbird friends up north and the kids counting down the last days of school, summer has officially begun at CRYC after a whirlwind month of May.
Our Cinco De Mayo fiesta kicked off the month, and we moved the festivities to a Friday to ensure everyone could join in the fun. With delectable Mexican cuisine, refreshing margaritas, and the lively tunes of our mariachi band, it was an unforgettable night.
Kentucky Derby Day was another highlight. Members wore their finest fascinators and suits and gathered to cheer on their favorite horses with mint juleps in hand.
Then the skies above CRYC came alive with the roar of engines during the Fort Lauderdale Air Dot Show. We truly had the best seats in town as Members of all ages marveled at the stunts and the precision flying of the skilled pilots.
Thanks to all those who attended Mother’s Day Brunch; we hope you enjoyed celebrating MOM as much as we did. With more than 350+ in attendance, we honored the incredible mothers in our lives with a special brunch filled with love and appreciation. We hope to see our moms wearing the custom CRYC pink bows we presented. Some of the ladies affixed them to their hats and their beach bags, and they looked great. We are excited to celebrate the Dads in the same fashion for our Father’s Day Brunch on Sunday, June 16th (No bows for the Dads!) We’ll have all the favorites plus some new twists: kitchen-sink bloody marys, beer specials, a DJ at the pool, and a cornhole tournament! It promises to be a memory-making day.

The 4th of July celebration is right around the corner. Be sure to make your reservations for the All-American Buffet online or through our mobile app. This will be a “Save-a-Space” event; we strongly encourage you to walk, bike, carpool, Uber, or arrive by golf cart. Come out and join us; you won’t have to fight the crowds, and we will have the Veranda set up with a full bar for your viewing pleasure.
We are excited to introduce some new faces around the Club. If you haven’t had a chance to meet Richard Lewis, Food & Beverage Director, or Sarah Kazakevicius, Catering Director, please say hello and give them a warm CRYC welcome. We are glad to have them on board.

Now let’s get to “The Pointe! It’s the perfect time to invite friends, neighbors, and family members to join our awesome Club and take advantage of the highly anticipated grand opening. Our Membership & Marketing Director, Tami Lawlor, is ready to provide further information to anyone interested in becoming part of the CRYC family.
Whether you are staying in South Florida or traveling this summer, we’d like to highlight your adventures with a fun CRYC tradition. We encourage you to grab a CRYC burgee from our Yacht Shop, snap a picture with it wherever your travels take you, and we’ll showcase your trip in the Member Spotlight section of The Log. We love to see where our burgee goes, so please tag us on social media @cryc1947 or send your pictures to tlawlor@cryc.net.
Don’t forget to take advantage of one of CRYC’s best member benefits—our reciprocity with other yacht clubs. When traveling, enjoy visiting more than 35 clubs within the Florida Council of Yacht Clubs and other clubs in the Register of American Yacht Clubs available to you. Just remember to take your membership card with you for access. Additionally, many of my colleagues at clubs around the country would be glad to host you if they can. I would be happy to make a phone call and see if you may be accommodated. Please let me know if I can assist you. For more information on reciprocal clubs, please contact Tami Lawlor, Director of Membership & Marketing at tlawlor@cryc.net.
Additionally, if there is anything you would like to share, please stop by and see me, leave a comment card online, send an email, or call me directly. Your feedback is always truly valued.
See you at your “Home Away from Home” your Club!
See you at the Club!

Auxiliary

I must shout out a big “Thank you” to Thomas Swick, our featured speaker at our May 8th Auxiliary Luncheon. His discussion about his experiences as a travel writer for the Sun Sentinel and his new memoir, FallingIntoPlace:AStory of Love, Poland and the Making of a Travel Writer, kept the audience rapt the entire afternoon. What a treat to those of us lucky enough to hear him! What a wonderful way to close out our formal luncheon season!
Our schedule during the months of June, July, and August will be quieter and less formal, with so many of us away. For those who stay local, please note that Auxiliary will continue to meet the second Wednesday of the month, at noon.
Wherever you happen to be, Auxiliary wishes you a happy summer season!
If you have not yet joined, please contact Jodi Dumas at jodidumas@outlook.com or 610-417-3855.
Sincerely yours,
Ellen Landauer Publicity/Secretary

CRYC Sailing & Watersports Foundation
As we move toward the summer months and many of our Members and Foundation Supporters head north, we look forward to your return. Our work at the Foundation is very busy with the Summer Sailing Camp in full swing. At this writing, the first three of our four sessions are completely sold out. Session number 4 which is from July 29 – August 9th still has a few spots available. If you would like to have your child participate in this great program, please contact our Activities Director, Donna Wagoner, and she will guide you through the process.
As I mentioned in my last article, we displayed two art sails at the Party with a Purpose, one of which was made available for bidding. The bidding sail was painted by our very own CRYC sailors under the direction of a talented local artist Christopher Kram. It was purchased and donated to the Foundation for future display. The second sail, which was painted by Christopher, was displayed at the entrance to the clubhouse and has been displayed at the entrance to the clubhouse and has been available for bidding. We have received bids and will continue to take bids until our summer event, FOUNDATION DAY. We will announce the date of that event as soon as the new Pointe is available. For those of you who have not seen the sail, I have included a picture of it in this article.
Many of you have noticed and commented on the new TEAM FOUNDATION Donor plaque that is displayed at the entrance to the clubhouse. Since it has been installed, we have had requests from additional supporters to be included. We intend to add the additional names right after Foundation Day. Many of you have donated over the years and are close to the $1000.00 donation level to be included. You can contact me or Roz Alford to be included or for your contributions to date.
As many of you know, your Foundation is one of the sponsors of Erica Reineke who has qualified to represent the USA and sail in the Paris Olympics. She will be carrying the

CRYC burgee with her to the games. Her dedication in both time and money should make us all proud that she is representing us at the Olympics. We have made a commitment to support her efforts. If you would like to make a donation to the Foundation which will be used specifically to help offset some of Erica’s expenses, please contact Paul Erickson, Roz Alford, or myself.
As always, on behalf of the Foundation Board, I thank you for your continued support.
Bob Epstein,
President - CRYC Sailing and Watersports Foundation

Culinary Corner
As the Executive Chef at the CRYC, I am excited to bring a taste of summer to The Pointe. For me, “chow-dah” is not only quintessential summer but it’s one of the first recipes that I mastered as I began my culinary career.
After graduating high school, my friends and I decided to embark on an adventure and spend the summer on Martha’s Vineyard. We planned to rent a charming beach house, find summer jobs, and immerse ourselves in the island’s serene sunsets.
I managed to land a job at a quaint, eclectic place known as The Black Dog Tavern, run by a friendly group of hippies. Despite having no prior experience as a cook, I confidently talked my way into the position. My lack of speed in the kitchen earned me the nickname “The Rocket,” a moniker I embraced with pride.
While my culinary skills were initially limited, my time at The Black Dog Tavern proved to be an invaluable learning experience. I honed a variety of cooking techniques, but the skill I was most proud of mastering that first summer was making a true New England-style clam chowder.
This chowder, rich and creamy, encapsulates the essence of a New England summer. Its thick, hearty texture makes it the perfect soup for those cool, breezy evenings by the water. Picture this: as the sun dips below the horizon, casting a golden glow across the ocean, you sit by the shore, a gentle breeze rustling through the dunes, listening to James Taylor croon on the radio, and savoring a bowl of clam chowder. It’s like tasting a spoonful of summer itself.
The clam chowder recipe I learned became a cherished culinary treasure. The combination of fresh clams, tender potatoes, crispy bacon, and a rich, creamy broth is simply irresistible. Topped with a handful of crunchy oyster crackers and a dash of spicy Tabasco, it’s a dish that perfectly captures the flavors of the Vineyard.

Now, I’m excited to bring a piece of summer to The Pointe, by adding Vineyard Clam Chowder as our signature soup. With each bowl, I hope to share that idyllic summer experience with you. So join me, crumble in some oyster crackers, add a splash of Tabasco, and let the taste of summer at The Pointe begin.
Steve Zobel Executive ChefINGREDIENTS

2. Add onions, celery, garlic, and butter and sauté until translucent.
3. Add clam juice, clams, potatoes, and simmer until potatoes are tender.
4. Whisk in roux until thickened.
5. Add the heavy cream and herbs.
6. Season with salt and pepper.
7. Serve in bowl and garnish with oyster crackers.

CRYC Cruisers
Dear Cruisers and Members All,
What an amazing half a year we have had! Our trip to Cape Canaveral, suggested and hosted by Joyce and Richard Sackett, was, in my opinion, one of the best trips we have ever embarked upon. We all spent one to two days at Kennedy Space Center. People arrived by boat or by car for a truly outstanding experience for young and old alike! Joyce and Richard hosted dinner for about 30 of us on Friday night. The food was prepared by their daughter Ariel and was simply outstanding! To top it off, we witnessed the launch of a SpaceX satellite just after dinner! The building right in front of us glowed and pulsed a golden color as the rocket took to the sky. We could feel the push-off as well as hear the sound of it.
Our next adventure is the Grand Bahama Yacht Club and summer in the Bahamas. People have diverse itineraries, so we can look forward to a lot of big fish stories upon our return to the club. For those of you who are going to Peanut Island, send us pictures and have fun!
Ahoy, CRYC crew!
From Meredith Campbell:
What a blast we had on May 26th at our incredible Day Trippers event! Picture this: 5 Cruisers, 3 Center Consoles, 1 SeaDoo, 1 Sports Fisher, 1 Pontoon, and our trusty 13ft Boston Whaler, all out on the water, with around 70 members and guests soaking up the sun and surf. From 5-year-old adventurers to seasoned sailors, everyone found their slice of paradise, whether cooling off in the water or lounging in the comfy AC of a cruiser. Our “tie-up” spot in Sunrise Bay was buzzing with excitement as five different groups converged in one epic location. Thanks to the Club’s boxed lunches, grabbing a bite was a breeze, and with plenty of ice and drinks

When I think about it, there are so many people who have been instrumental in the success of Cruisers and Day Trippers. Commodore Carolyn Greenlaw, Giuliana Hirshson, and I put together the first Day Tripper events back in 2019. We have had so many great leaders like Ron Weitzman, who was a Governor while heading up Cruisers and is my role model. It takes all of us to coordinate these events. If you have any great ideas or pictures, please send them forward. Safe travels, everyone!
Kate Nelson Chairon hand, no thirst went unquenched. A massive shoutout to all involved, especially the Cruisers Club, for being the wind beneath our sails in planning this unforgettable event. Mark your calendars for the next one on Saturday, August 10th! For more info, drop a line to meredithroycampbell@gmail.com. Fair winds and following seas till then!

Family Activities
Dear Members,
Save a seat, save the date! Reservations are key!
Reserving your spot early is crucial, especially for key events that tend to sell out quickly. By making your reservations in advance, you secure your spot and ensure that you won’t miss out on any exciting opportunities. Additionally, some events may be canceled if there is a lack of participation, so early reservations help us gauge the interest and viability of each activity.
We would also like to remind you of our cancellation policy, which requires a notice of at least 48 hours prior to the event. This policy is in place to allow other Members the chance to attend in case of cancellations and to help us manage resources effectively. Please be mindful of this policy when making your reservations, and notify us in a timely manner if any changes arise.
When it comes to seating arrangements, we understand the importance of sitting with friends or making a table together. To facilitate this, we have provided a comments section in the reservation app. In the app or by calling, you can indicate who you would like to sit with or request to make a table with specific Members. By adding the names of your Fellow Members to

your reservation, we can ensure that you are seated together and enjoy the company of your choosing. If you invite another Member to an event and make the reservation on their behalf, any charges related to that reservation will be billed back to the inviting Member, regardless of who initially made the reservation.
Thank you for your cooperation and support in making CRYC a vibrant and inclusive Club. We look forward to seeing you at our upcoming activities and events!

Friday Colors at CRYC
Observing Colors is a time-honored ceremony adopted by the US Navy in 1843.
Service members and civilians take part in this long-standing tradition to reflect on the sacrifices of the women and men who devoted their lives to protect our nation’s shores from foes. To many, this custom is rooted in a sense of deep pride and is a symbol of admiration.
1. Approximately ten minutes before sunset, as calculated by the Fleet Captain, the word is passed “First call, first call to color.” The honor guard of the day will form near the point of hoist of the ensign. At that time, there will be no services provided by the CRYC and its staff, including the bars, until after the conclusion of Colors and the ensign has been presented to the proper authority.
2. Immediately before sunset, “Attention” is sounded by one horn blast, blown on a whistle, or eight bells is sounded. ALL PERSONS, INCLUDING CHILDREN, within sight or hearing, face the ensign, remove their head gear, place their right hand over their heart and STAND AT ATTENTION and REMAIN SILENT unless singing the National Anthem. Boats in the vicinity lie to, or proceed at the slowest possible speed, and the boat officer or coxswain stands and salutes.

3. The order “Execute” is then given: the cannon will be fired, and the ensign is lowered slowly. The National Anthem or “To the Colors” (Retreat) will be played with the ensign starting down the staff.
4. When the ensign is completely lowered, folded, and presented to the proper authority, the word is passed “Carry on,” at which time, salutes are terminated, and the ceremony is over.
Congressional Defense Authorization Act of 2009, which President Bush signed on October 14, 2009, entitles retired or former military members in civilian to render the hand salute.
Let’s show our pride and respect at CRYC and abide by proper flag etiquette. Flag etiquette reminder: All yacht ensigns should also be struck (taken down and removed) at sunset until the following day.
